how do i find myself in these situations?XAN DAYTON ASTORxan. 20. male. bisexual. faerie. neutral. swarley.
The night was young, his parents were on the beach with a couple of beers, and it was the night he was conceived. Sure, no kid would want to hear about their parents getting it on, but things like that hadn’t bothered the boy since he was a kid. He was able to look at things scientifically instead of emotionally. When he was just a boy, he could understand concepts most people couldn’t even dream about knowing. He was brilliant to put it simply. He grew up with almost perfect grades and found out that he, in fact, had a photographic memory. It was how he could remember things so clearly and could easily figure things out. His mind was always running at a hundred miles an hour, and it was never at rest. It wasn’t until he was in his teens and in high school how terrible being smart could be. People would often tease him and pick fun at how he was always getting perfect grades. Jocks threw him into lockers or trashcans, and finally Xan was fed up with it. Being a faerie, he was able to become invisible to the human world. At first, the boy would only become visible when he truly needed to be. During class, he was visible, but he would run to the bathroom and become unseen. After school his tactics were the same. He walked home every day invisible to everyone. When that got tiring and difficult to pull off every day, he did the only other thing he knew how to do which was to show them who he really was without the glamour. When they had seen his true nature, he fed off of their fear, and he was soon able to make them want him, made them addicted to him so that he could feed off of those who otherwise would have been bastards.
Soon, the boy got into baseball. At first it was just something to try and get into the more popular group of kids, and found that he was terrible, just as he thought. Since there was more than one day of tryouts, the faerie went home and watched a few hours of baseball games to try and better understand the concepts and physics of the game. The next day, Xan went back to tryouts, and as all of the boys all laughed at him as he went up to bat he just smiled at them. It wasn’t until the boy was thrown a ball and Xan knocked it out of the park that they all shut their mouths. The coaches were pretty impressed at the turn around he had made ,but the boys all thought it was just luck. So, Xan being determined to show them that he was actually much better than them, told the coach to throw him another one, this time faster. Since he was just as interested to see this as the kids, he threw Xan another ball, this time a curve ball. Xan took his stride and knocked it into the left-hand corner of the field. Without another word, the faerie smirked and the boys just looked at him with blank faces. It was obvious that they could see now that he meant business. After another few days of tryouts, he landed first string varsity playing second base. He was great at it, too, and gained the team’s respect quickly. No one thought he could do it, but he had proved them wrong.
Xan was always like that, though. if he wanted something, he got it, but he didn’t get it because his parents could afford to pay for it. He got it by working for it. Xan wasn’t born to a wealthy family. No, in fact he and his three sisters were quite poor. But he didn’t need money to get him anywhere. He had his brain. To keep him busy, he would read, and he read a lot of books. After becoming actual friends with the baseball team, he was soon tutoring a few of them, and got the bright idea to start charging for it. Since most of them had money and actually understood how Xan could teach, they did it, and he made some pretty decent money every week. He used it to help his mom and only kept some of it for himself. He didn’t like seeing his sisters go hungry every other night.
By now, the faerie was in his junior year, sixteen and one of the jocks. Being one, he got invited to all of the best parties and all of the students knew who he was. he was no longer the nerdy kid who got thrown into lockers and trash cans. He was too important now, and he was supposed to help take the team to the championship. It was during the off season that he had his first take at drugs. While at the time he thought it was nothing, he hadn’t realized that it would soon become a terrible habit of his. He was lucky they were never tested for drugs, or he would have been kicked off of the team for sure.
He was offered a full scholarship at so many different universities, including the one in Manuka, his hometown. He decided that he’d like an adventure, so he went off to the University of South Carolina. While there, he was captain of the varsity team two years running, until the Championship game in his sophomore year. They were up by six in the bottom of the seventh, and Xan was out at second base, ready to get the final game over with. As the ball was hit to him, he threw it to second, getting an out, and then the short stop threw it to first, making a double play. As Xan was taking stride, though, his ACL was torn. He dropped to the ground in pain and medics ran out to go see him. he was taken out from the game, and put on the bench for the rest of the season. He had to have a few surgeries, and by the time the season ended, he was better, but he just didn’t have any desire to play the game anymore. He moved back to Manuka and went to college there. He had grown to be quite the partier, and got back into the drug scene. He only did it recreationally, but weed was still in his life. Every once in a while, he would deal to those who he liked for the extra cash.
Since his little incident, the boy has forgotten about baseball pretty much. He was fully recovered due to his being a faerie, but it just never interested him like it had before. Other sports like skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and motor cross are all high up on his list now. He might not look like the athletic type, but he will kick anyone’s ass at any sport and will challenge the very best. If he wanted, he could be a pro, but right now all that’s on his mind is parties and having fun. Perhaps later on he will do the smart thing and use his talents and brain for something useful, but he might need someone to prod him and push him to make something of himself.
As for right now, though, he goes out every weekend and parties with all of his friends. He is the life of the party at most scenes, but if he’s more interested in just one or three people, he is more of a background person. He doesn’t always have to be the center of attention, but it is much better than being the butt of jokes like he was before. Now, he is considered a pretty cool guy, and his style shows it. He likes to wear anything, basically. He doesn’t really care how he looks, as long as he doesn’t look like a complete fool. When going to parties, he dresses in whatever he feels good in, and whatever makes him more likely to get with a girl—or guy sometimes, if he’s feeling that way—and he never dresses like a douche. The whole chains and hair jell and the collared shirts unbuttoned so many times that you can see your stomach thing doesn’t work for Xan.
