HISTORY
childhoodthe beginning of the diagnosis; not so much happened in sander’s childhood that is significant. his father has always never really been there, and his mother has basically been taking care of him on her own. this has a major impact, which is usually a negative one, on a child as he grows. psychologists and psychiatrists have concluded that his broken family home has been the major cause for his depression, and avoidant/borderline personality disorder. a poor childhood leads to a confused and, in some cases, violent adult although violence has never been apparent in sander, not even when he was a child. his parents are witches, but sander is oblivious to this. his mother has always sheltered him from the supernatural world, while his father was strongly aligned with the “dark” side, which is the cause for his father’s absence.
recognized telepathic; it was around the age of six when sander’s telepathic abilities began to surface – or more so, became more relevant and understood. sander was always lead to believe that he was just “special” though. normally, a parent would freak and bring their child to a psychiatrist when this becomes apparent, though sander’s parents rather just ignored it. the marriage of gjon, his father (pronounced john), and elira, his mother, began to crumble around this time as well. arguments sparked at the confliction of perceptions of sander’s telepathy. gjon saw this as a great achievement and advantage for him, but at the same time he fumed with jealousy – leading to a disliking of his son – because the telepathic gene skipped his generation. his own father was telepathic, but he wasn’t, and when sander was passed the gene, gjon began to despise him. he desired to use sander; train him to fight among his, the supernatural’s, side of the war. except elira would never allow this, she refused to bend and compromise, and instead vowed to shelter him for all supernatural for as long as she possibly could. she does not wish the life of gjon for sander.
adolescencethe bullied innocent; sander has always been noticeably different; he’s quiet, he loves to read and learn, and he’s well… telepathic. he’s a freak of nature according to his fellow classmates, and they would never allow a chance to tease him slip by. ever since grade one sander has been violently teased and bullied during school, and it never ceased even through high school. they excluded him from everything – he’s that kid that all of the “cool” kids bash on and steal lunch money from. the catch is, every push and shove, every punch in the gut or even to the face, sander captures their thoughts and memories. the moment their skin comes into contact with his, he can basically see into their mind. though he cannot control what he sees, nor can the one who touched him. he can see your deepest, darkest memory at random and neither can control it. which means, if the school’s biggest bully was secretly hurting from an abusive father – sander would most likely find out just after that first punch. this leads sander to feel sympathetic rather than angry, and leads him to only see the good within them.
the first diagnosis; at age fifteen, sander was diagnosed with major depression. his parents – mother – took him to a psychiatrist after years of gloominess and quiet. sander was anti-social, he never spoke, and when he did it was broken into stutters. it was as if his speech never fully developed because he never talked to anyone. he was quiet, too quiet to the point where elira was worried and frustrated. except, after the diagnosis, his father put his foot down against putting him onto medication because he believed it all to be “bullshit.” therefore, sander was never prescribed anti-depressants and the gloom continued.
the suicide attempt; the alienation in school, and his father’s abandonment had finally took its toll. sander felt unwanted, invisible, and uncared for. he felt as though he had no reason in this world – though, psychiatrists have been lead to believe that the attempt was a cry for help. when sander was seventeen years old he attempted to commit suicide. he took an excess amount of his mom’s sleeping pills and overdosed. his father found him in time to take him to the hospital, which was the only good thing he had done for sander since he was a kid. sander never forgot that fact, and he adored his father (he always had, but now even more so) for saving him.
the full diagnosis; after his suicide attempt, sander’s mother took him back to a different psychiatrist for another evaluation. though this time, he was also diagnosed with a cross between avoidant personality disorder and borderline personality disorder.avoidant personality disorder – a mental health condition in which a person has a lifelong pattern of feeling very shy, inadequate, and sensitive to rejection. symptoms:• easily hurt when people criticize or disapprove of them
• holds back too much in intimate relationships
• reluctant to become involved with people
• shy in social situations
borderline personality disorder – a condition in which people have long-term patterns of unstable or turbulent emotions, such as feelings about themselves and others. causes:• abandonment in childhood or adolescence
• disrupted family life
• poor communication in the famly
symptoms:• fear of being abandoned
• feelings of emptiness and boredom
• frequent displays of inappropriate anger
• repeated crises and acts of self-injury, such as wrist cutting or overdosing
the diagnosis for borderline personality disorder was not as hazardous as other cases because sander does not react violently, and had only attempted suicide once – no signs of self harm. this time, his mother forced gjon to allow sander to go on medication, and since then he has been on anti-depressants and mood stabilizers.
APPEARANCEbody type – not so much slender, not muscular, but not chubby. a good size, I suppose.
height – six feet
skin tone – pasty white
hair color – red
eye color – blue green
style – casual; relaxed.
PERSONAsexuality – heterosexual; confused.
alliance – neutral; unknowing.
likes –animals, good weather and sunny days, kind people, biology, learning, psychology, studying people, reading, dogs (in particular, his dog – blaze), summertime, quiet, positive attention, praise, when his dad pays attention to him, getting out of the house, zoning out to music, his friends, making new friends, socializing, acceptance, hotdogs, candy, walking or riding a bike instead of driving, ice cream, smiling and laughing, seeing movies, the idea of love and soul mates, believing that somewhere out there, there is someone who will love him.
dislikes –a majority of the student body at his school, being teased and bullied, being the center of attention, sad movies, stories, or books, his home life, physical contact with people, feeling the pain of others, violence, hearing other peoples’ thoughts and seeing their memories, mean people, socializing, animal cruelty, negativity, when his father’s not around, not having his father’s attention, his mother’s efforts at filling the gap of the absence of his father, arguing, arguing with his mom, seeing his mom unhappy, being the cause of the unhappiness, knowing that he can’t change it because he doesn’t really want to, pain, his stuttering habits, his social awkwardness, therapy, his therapist.
strengths –• seeing the good in people, no matter how evil they appear to be.
• he’s very resourceful; if thrown into the wild, he would be able to survive.
• he’s a telepathic – this can be seen as both a strength and a weakness seeing as not all thoughts are angelic. though, it can easily be a strength as well because he can find an understanding of someone that others may not be able to achieve.
• he’s very connected with animals – this isn’t necessarily a strength, but you never know.. it could be!
weaknesses –• he’s extremely sensitive and self conscience; he has absolutely no confidence in himself.
• he doesn’t really like being a telepathic, so he gets really antsy when it comes to contact with people; which means, no fighting back or holding hands or kissing (at least, until he comes to terms with it).
since he chooses to focus on the good in others, he isn’t well aware of who is an enemy and who is a friend. ie. his father.
• sander’s very shy; he’s socially awkward and tends to keep to himself although being around people tends to make him feel better. he feeds off of their energy, basically.
• he has a bad home life, and has a bad school life making him pretty depressed and self-loathing (goes back to his lack of confidence). he gets teased a lot, therefore making him feel worthless and unwanted.
secrets –he was diagnosed by a psychiatrist when he was fifteen. their research showed that sander had a little bit of the following:• avoidant and borderline personality disorder
• clinical depression (major depression)
this didn’t necessarily mean much, since he wasn’t a schizophrenic or falling into psychosis, and so his parents didn’t take action. when sander turned seventeen he attempted suicide, and they finally put him on anti-depressants. he appears to be doing much better.
CLOSER LOOK; PERSONALITYthe quiet one; sander is generally very quiet. he has been forced into silence from his fellow classmates – they’ve beaten him down to the point where he feels as though his voice is unwanted, even his very presence he feels to be unwanted. sander fears people, yet he thrives off of them. being around people makes him feel better, talking to them and having a conversation gives him a positive energy – yet that doesn’t come very often. he has a confliction between loving socializing and despising socializing. he genuinely likes to talk to kind people, because he believes it to be surprising and rare to come across someone who is sincerely good. sander likes to see the good in people, he’ll push aside every bad or evil quality the moment he finds that faint under glow of benevolence, which is actually quite odd seeing as most would do the opposite. he has an optimistic point of view, yet we’ll get back to that later. sander is extremely shy, and he has been alienated from social events and social conversations for so long that he actually has difficulty carrying out a conversation. he’s a bit socially awkward, you could say, he gets fidgety and stutters like a madman whenever someone talks to him (only yet another thing the kids tease him about). he’s just uncomfortable, he’s been avoiding associating himself with others for so long that he’s made it physically difficult for himself.
the animal lover; the human race is one of the most depressing, vile creatures living in this world. sander knows this through his telepathic abilities – even the kindest seeming person can have the most foul intentions and the blackest of hearts. it gets tiring, and disheartening, to be around them all the time. ever since sander was a little boy he has had a deep love for animals. they have the purist souls and the kindest minds; they are beautiful creatures. he has his own dog, blaze, who is a yellow lab, and has had him since he was seventeen. he got him as a puppy, and blaze easily became his best friend. he adores the dog, and does everything (besides school) with him. he can talk comfortably with him, and plays with him non-stop. the unconditional love that he has for sander is enough to keep sander from any more suicidal thoughts. being around blaze is therapeutic for him; it keeps him sane.
the paradox of optimism and depression; now back to the still-thriving optimism that sparks faintly from within. sander is one of the kindest, most harmless people you could ever meet. even if you were the biggest asshole to sander, he would still say help you if he saw you dying in an alley. haha, that was a bit dramatic. in a much more realistic way, if you were the biggest asshole to sander and randomly decided to have a conversation with him – he would still be the pleasant boy he always is with a broken smile spreading across his lips. he knows the human race is cruel and sickening, but he can’t help but hold onto that slight glimmer of hope for goodness. even if you are the most fucked up person, sander will still search for that one sliver of virtuousness and hold onto it. he’ll ignore all of your faults if he can find that good within you, but this fact is potentially dangerous. looking for the good within someone who is genuinely wicked can bring many misfortunes upon sander. then there is the paradox. sander suffers from major depression, and has since he was fifteen. he feels himself to be unworthy after being alienated in school and basically abandoned by his own father. sander has the saddest eyes, and the saddest heart that yearns just to be loved. he avoids all close relations subconsciously, being afraid of rejection and/or abandonment – yet deep down he wants it.
the hopeless romantic; sander is caught up on the idea of love. he believes in true love; in having a soul mate. it’s an easy way to get a starry-eyed boys heart crushed – but sander has never been close enough to feel that pain. he desires a romance, but his subconscious would be reluctant to allow him to get that close to someone. sander has this idea of a traditional romance, and treating a girl like a princess – a real fairy-tale look at it. he’s a hopeless romantic, but too afraid and self-conscience to ever make a move.
the wishful son; if sander could wish for any one thing, it would be for his beloved father’s attention. gjon is an asshole; he’s a bad person – one of the worst, but sander is blinded by an overwhelming childish love for him. he sees him as the greatest person alive, even though he knows that he isn’t. he’d do anything just for his attention, and any kind of attention he gets makes him smile – even if it is negative. you could say it’s a bit messed up in the fact that his mother, elira, is the one always there for him – yet he isn’t ever particularly nice to her. they bicker all the time; elira does all that she can to make him happy, but sander can’t help but want to snap. he wants his father, and he despises the fact that his mother wants to fill the absent space where his father should be. it pains him to know that he is breaking her heart, but he can’t help the fact that he wants his dad. he needs him, but he’s finally beginning to realize just how bad of a person he really is.
