hey there! so, tell us all about you... let's start off with the basics. what do we need to know?
"Oh, we're starting? Sorry, I wasn't...technically here. -grins shyly- I'm Lorelai Sophie Acosta, but you can call me Lori, Lai, Soph, Sophie or sometimes I get Rory, who-ever came up with that I want to hit them. Anyway, I'm 19, about to turn 20 in say, a few months, in December. Labels, labels, I find them ridiculous. Nevertheless, I'm a hybrid, I'm not proud of it, but I am. Wanna know what I am exactly? I'm a witch and a mermaid, fun right? It isn't. At least if water's coming my way I can use my magic to keep me dry and my tail from appearing. So don't think down on me, but I'm on the Neutral with a soft spot for the dark side. Why? I don't care what it takes, I want all supernaturals to be accepted into the human world, that too much to ask? Anyway, I love my boys too, I had a lover/fiance in Sierra Leone before I came here, but otherwise, I'm not one for the girls besides friends, but I do get hit on by girls...once in awhile."
so, a little birdy told me that you're pretty gorgeous... describe yourself.
"Um, I haven't been able to see myself in about 10 years, do I still need to do it? -sighs- From what I know, I'm 5'9", so I'm certainly not short by any means, therefore I tend to wear flats a lot and only heels when I need to. I have brown hair and blue-green, hazel-colored eyes. Who cares? Odette Yustman is who they say my "doppleganger is" and again I ask, who cares? I can't see them anyway, but something like that, hazel I suppose. I don't really have anything special about me besides my ridiculous height, and that's pretty much it. Oh! I do have scars though, I can feel them...they're from when I was a child, and the genocide and reforms happened in Freetown. -sighs- Just a few though, the others ones have disappeared over the years.
As for what I like to wear? Anything but heels except for dates. But yeah, I'm a fan of dresses and skirts, so I can be seen in those, and since I work with people, I at least don't need to worry about anything, as I have first, a guide dog appropriately named Troy, and I've been offered to do a trial where I have a mini horse as a seeing-eye animal, isn't that weird? But I don't want to leave my golden retriever, so I'm staying with him till he dies. Anyway, besides my same accessory, my dog, I like bangles and stuff, though I'm careful with my clothing, as I have a friend who lives with me in my house and she will sometimes help me make sure I look decent, we've color-coordinated everything for me so therefore, I know where things are, and I just find my shoes by touch."
i'm sure that your personality is something else completely, tell me all about your self, can't wait to hear it!
"I'm a robot. I have no personality. -laughs- I'm only kidding! Well, let's just get to the point, shall we? What I like? I like a lot of things, I like flowers, I like being able to smell, I like it when I touch people I get their whole life and their thoughts into my head. Well, sometimes. I can control that now, but it does make it easier when I want to get to know someone, or if I need to weasel information out of someone, I can get into their thoughts. I guess that comes with being a witch. I like sugar, sugar is my favorite, well, tied with caffeine since I'm on the go a lot with Troy, since he helps me tons a lot with everything, keeps me from getting hit by cars crossing the streets in Manuka. Let's see, I love braille, technically I speak three languages, Krio - which is the main language in my home country, Sierra Leone, then English and I can read braille, so that's always nice. Oh, and I speak a few dialects from around Freetown, Sierre Leone as well as Guinea and such. So yeah...anyway.
My dislikes, are definitely hunters. Humans aren't better than supernaturals at all. I think we're all equal. I have a strong dislike for lies, but I also dislike not getting my way, mainly because I absolutely enjoy being able to get what I want, when I want it. Spoiled? No, I'm just an excellent planner. -grins shyly- I certainly don't like the thought of violence, for obvious reasons which can become obvious in my history. Let's see, I'm all for tolerance and I cannot stand it when people pick on other people just because they happen to be white, black or whatever. Ridiculous in my opinion. Um, what else. I'm not a fan of men with egos, especially since the man who raped my mom and older sister had such a massive ego, and took me as a "pet" he called me for awhile, I loathe men like that and refuse to go near them if I can help it.
I'm good at magic, I love swimming and singing of course. I've been in a few commercials for various things, so I'm a good actress when I need to be. I love secrets and gossip, especially since plus, people tend to underestimate me due to me being blind, but what I love is that I get to prove them wrong if they should provoke me. As for weaknesses, obviously stuff like fire, due to my mermaid blood obviously. For my defense mechanism, I tend to use sarcasm to keep others at a distance from me, expect of course a few people I grow to trust, especially my roomie. Oh, and as for a secret...well...saying I'm blind can't be one, obviously. It's just...-wipes away some tears- I just...had a trauma in my life I don't ever want to see anyone suffer through...which is why I want to work internationally and help with the suffering of others. One thing I want more than anything in the whole world is to see, and I'm seeing a therapist at the end of this month, so let's hope for the best. -grins weakly- As for a last note, I've been told I'm very strong-willed when it comes to just life in general. Stubborn could be another word, but it just doesn't sound like me....much."
i would love to hear about your past, i'm sure it's oh so interesting...
"All righty, let's get started. First off, I literally have family from Africa. No joke, though I look white, I'm actually like...30 percent African-American. My dad is Colombian, and therefore I was raised on Spanish too, so I know that. Oh, sorry, let's talk about my parents. My mom is a mermaid, and my dad, a warlock, a decently powerful one at that too. She was an English teacher in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where she was loved by pretty much everyone (I still think she used her mermaid powers on them to get them to like her). Anyway, she met my father who was on a missions trip with his church from Nevada. So, they met there when he was working on building another part of the primary school there and started dating, despite the violence going on with the genocide of Foday Sankoh, who decided anyone who wasn't good enough was to die. Nevertheless, my parents pursued their love, and soon, my father, Jose Miguel Acosta married my mom, Elizabeth Marie Baker. So, they soon had my older sister, named Angelica, or Angel they called her. She was adorable and they adored her to no end. The trio lived happily just outside of Freetown on their villa there, and soon about three years later I was brought into the world. My parents doted on us, as my mom worked and my dad worked out in the small towns, taking us with us. We were taught English and Krio, the second language of Sierra Leone, and then later on Spanish before my parents were killed.
Anyway, I met a few good friends, and we remained a tight knit group, my older sister Angel included. Though as the reforms and rebellions drew closer to Freetown, first my mom lost her job, and by the time I was 8, things had gotten worse. I was horrified about what I was hearing, and out in our little house outside of Freetown, we thought we were safe. We were wrong. Foday's troops, well, a group of them led by Chibuzo, which means, "god leads" which I found ironic. Nevertheless, his group raided our house, me only being 8, was fortunately spared from most of the beatings they serviced to my parents. My father, since he had been tied with the government through a part-time job, was beaten, his fingers first cut off, while they tied me and my sister up to watch, as they tortured my parents. The look of horror on their faces, the faces of the men in front of me, I will never forget, they will haunt me. -shivers- They tortured my father, Jose. His fingers went first, then they decided to sever a few other things. Finally, they ended his life, right in front of me, Angel who was 12 at the time, and my mom. Elizabeth had told Jose to use his magic, since he had started to teach me and my sister about our magic. Though there was another warlock among these men, and he disabled our spells every time, and upon giving me and Angel a heavy sedative to disable our untrained magic, we were helpless.
I couldn't believe it. My mind went nuts, and I screamed till Chibuzo told them to knock me out for awhile while he went after my mom. Her voice worked on them long enough to postpone the inevitable, but in the end, after being raped and beaten, we witnessed her death too. I was crying my eyes out, I have nightmares about this day as well. I hadn't eaten anything in over 8 hours since they raided our house, our precious house. My sister was next. Chibuzo just looked at me like I was an animal. Angel defended me, told them that I was special, that I could tell them the future if they gave me enough time. Stunned I told her no, whispering in the Spanish we had been taught, since they wouldn't know it. Soon, they killed my older sister for speaking out of terms, and Chibuzo enjoyed the fact I had only screamed. He took me, they kidnapped me after they burned my house down. Shock rolled through me, and my mind felt like it got burned with my house. I woke up the next day in another house, another place as I didn't recognize anything I touched. My vision had disappeared.
Chibuzo cared for me, he took care of me, but I could feel his gaze staring at me, like I was some kind of prize, a lottery ticket he felt he had good luck with. His wife - or concubine took care of me as well while I was stumbling around, and soon they taught me the layout of the house. I was told the only reason I was alive was because of what my sister said, and with voodoo and beliefs strong here, Chibuzo believed her and took me. I remained in my room for hours without end, at which point Chibuzo would break in and force me to eat, swearing at me in Krio, the language he preferred, calling me a freak, pulling me by my hair till I did what he told me to do. I did. I was broken, I only wanted to survive. -wipes away tears- I was with him till I escaped. He used me for the first time when I turned 13 and had been with him, being taught Braille in that time so I could at least enjoy a book he bought for me, taking care of me like a good dog. I was 16 when I escaped. I had been home-schooled by a few teachers, but the wars had seemed to settle in Freetown and we moved there.
I escaped though, his concubine, Felicia, who had been an immigrant, helped me. She got me onto a plane as a refugee from all this, and I was horrified to find her gone. I had no idea what to do. I freaked, I begged people, speaking in Spanish, English and Krio to attempt to see if someone would help me. The place flew to the airport since I had been in an outer part of Freetown. In the International Airport, an American group found me, and speaking English, took me in. At least a woman named Bonnie took me in then, and gave me a Passport to get back home easily. The government knew of refugees such as myself, since both my parents had been citizens of the United States. I didn't talk to anyone besides a few words to Bonnie. I missed everything, the familiar heat from the D.C. area I was taken to. The courts fought over me, being 16, they weren't sure what to do with me, especially since I refused to talk. I couldn't see anything, I had no idea how I looked, though from what I heard I had to look a mess, with wild hair after being torn away from a man who had groomed me to rely on him after multiple years being with him, and teaching me, feeding me and bathing me.
Bonnie though, asked to take me in. I reluctantly agreed and let her in the courts. Shortly afterwards, moving into her apartment in D.C., after she got me Troy, my seeing-eye dog, we moved here, to Manuka with her job. I wasn't a fan of this place, but I did it nonetheless. This was also where my magic began to grow. I harnessed my magic, and I grew stronger, powerful and soon found someone who too was a witch. She helped me and now, I'm one of the better ones I think - that can't see anyway. My mermaid form, I only take it about once a week, since I mean...why would I swim in the ocean if the only way I can move around is if I ask a dolphin to escort me? Yeah, so usually the tub for me. Bonnie attempted to aid me with my hysterical blindness, but I refused her help, and now I'm seeing a therapist in about a month. So I grew up with her, I got accustomed to life here, entered a private school and then public high school. I didn't mind it as long as people didn't judge me for having the seeing stick I called it. Braille became my best friend, and I soon got accepted into the college here. No one knows of my past, where I'm originally from. All the horrors, the events I witnessed, they just figure Bonnie is my mom and if they ask about my dad, I lie that he died in war. Well, he did, but not in America's war.
Now, I have my own place with Troy, and my room-mate is about to move out, so I'm looking for a new roommate. Preferably someone who is supernatural like me obviously, and isn't allergic to Golden Retrievers, since I need Troy 99 percent of the time and if I don't take him, I have my stick, but he's a lot better, as I know when I can and can't cross the crosswalks. I'm majoring in International Studies, and recently, I ran into a male whose voice I recognized on TV. Someone from Chibuzo's group who slaughtered my family. He won't get away with it. Now, I'm out for blood to the men who happen to be here who killed my family, and as a younger sophomore in college, I'd like to think my parents are proud of me. Well, I do know. I sometimes manage to get them and my older sister in spirits to see me, sometimes, it's...comforting, but nonetheless, will never be the same."
