Mia’s had a lot of history as an immortal. She was born in ancient Rome, and that’s as far as her mind allows her to return. She remembers her family, their wealth and their power. She remembers her sister abandoning her, she remembers her parents’ deaths, she remember her uncles. And she remembers all those dark places, the monasteries, the cold and cruel hands. Her family hadn’t wanted her in those times. She was more of a liability than anything. They saw that she was broken, and she was easily pushed aside, even when she became an immortal like the rest of them. The woman had never known anything kind in her early years, and she took all the pain and tragedy and made it a part of who she was. Mia became the devastation that had destroyed her.

It seemed like it would become better when she met the only man she loved in Spain. She married him, had two children, and life was beautiful. Until she realized one of the twins was ill. Before she died, her husband left. And the final nail in the coffin? Losing Till, her beautiful baby girl. And there only one person left in her life. Nell, her daughter. She became the object that the woman could take her pain and hatred out on. After all, it was Nell who killed her daughter, it was Nell who ruined her life. She deserved the pain that Mia inflicted. The girl ran away one night, and it was the last person to leave her. She would make sure Nell understood that. She would find her. And her daughter became an obsession, something to fixate all her attention on. A reason to live.

She spent her life trailing her daughter, doing what she could to ruin anything she could. All the while, she dealt with her own family. Now that she was moving again, now that she was letting herself out into the world, they thought her to be valuable. Even the sister who left her. But she hated that woman and was only using the Sinclairs to get what she wanted. A way to get to her daughter. That’s all she needed from life. If there was anything left, that was it. And if she ever met the man who betrayed her, she would kill him. Tear him apart and show him the pain he inflicted upon her. Because Mia couldn’t die except in the most extreme of ways, she would live out her life as she could. Her search brought her to Manuka, where it seemed her transient daughter had settled for a while.
