"BZZZ BZZZZ BZZZZ" went his alarm clock. It resounded in his head as loudly as a gong. "Son of a ....." he thought as he slammed his arm down onto the source of his annoyance. "Ahhh God damn it" he shouted forgetting that the arm he was using was broken two days ago from a hybrid. "Felix buddy this is not your week." he said to himself. Slowly he dragged himself out of bed, still quit hungover from the night before. "Whistler? Whistler buddy you there?" As he opened his eyes finally he could make out the massive doberman holding a bottle of asprin in his mouth. "Aye you really are mans best friend." Whistler began to growl and bark at him for that comment. "Alright alright I'm sorry, Just please stop talking so loud."
Felix is a 31 year old old divorced guy. He is around 5' 10'' and 147lbs. He has black short hair with a slight curl to it. Always a charmer, he trys to charm his way out of fights and into woman's good graces. His boyish looks help him with te ladies while his humor tends anger the local drunks. His best friend Doyle and him moved to the U.S to celebrate his divorce and start a new life. The two did what any Irish immagrant does to make money, they opened up a bar together. The bar was Felix ideal after he won the property in a “fair” game of cards. Doyle disapproved of his tactics for winning the bar but Felix pointed out "They were going to cheat any ways I just beat them to it."
After about a year of a fruitful business Felix began to wonder where his friend was going all the time since he never worked at the bar at night. He decided to follow him on a slow (almost painful) night leaving the new girl Gemma to close the shop. As he approached Doyles house he realized that he has never been over un expectidly or expectidly even. "This bastard has never once invited me over." he thought to himself. "I wonder why? Is he affraid I'll steal something or is he hiding a boyfriend" This last thought made him chuckle. The chuckle was suddenly interupted when sometthing ran into his car. "What the hell?" he thought as he began to stop and see what hit him. As he got out of his car he noticed what looked like a dog laying in the middle of the street. But it was to big to be a dog, he thought, Maybe its a bear. "Come on Felix if it was a bear then you should get the hell out of here." he said to himself. "You dont have 9 lives like the other cats" This memory made him chuckle as he remembered being called "The Cat" growing up by the other kids. Suddenly it began to move. "Well to hell with that" he said as it began to stand some eight feet tall. Running with his heart in his chest, he jumped into his car. Frantically he turned the key. "Awe bloody hell work you hunk o' shit" he yelled as the vehicle would not start up. "WHAM" WHAM" The wolf was beating at his car. Then as soon as it all started it stopped. The wolf let out a loud yelp and fell limp. "What the hell is going on?" he yelled
"It's alright ma'am everything is gonna be o......." .
"Doyle!!! what the hell are you doing here? what the hell is going on? And what the bloody hell is this?" Felix yelled.
"HA HA HA HA I thought you were a we lass in distress but nigh it's you HA HA HA" Doyle roared in laughter
"Whats going on?"
"I thought you were a woman with that girly scream you got Ha ha ha" Doyle still chuckled
Doyle still white with fear tried to steady himself "Stop laughing and start talking or i swear to the powers that be i will end you."
"Your in no position to talk their friend. That there is a werewolf and to answer your next question i know how t kill it because i hunt them and anything else that wants to hurt people."
The rest of the night was filled with a million questions Felix had for his friend. Soon he came to understand that there were other creatures in this world and some of them liked to hurt others. He learned that it was his friends job to hunt them though he called it "policing the baddies". This was all to much for felix to take so he did the only thing he knew would help, he started drinking, a lot. Enough to hospitalize any other man and then he drank some more. When he awoke the next day he asked his friend Doyle to explain it all over again.
"This whole hunter thing is hard." He said to whistler. Waiting till the asprin kicked in he finally got up and walked out to his bar to do his morning ritual. Pouring himself a shot glass of Tullamore Dew he shivered at the thought of drinking it. "Heres to you and your health Doyle. Still fighting the good fight" he saluted to his friends picture on the wall and then contiued to down the drink.
"He's so sweet, and that accent is just sexy."
"That cheat swindled me out of 3000euros. You tell him if Alec Lachman ever sees him again he's a dead man."
"He gave me a place to crash one night after my girl kicked me out. Man will give a stranger the shirt off his back if the man is honest."
"Any time there’s drunks around he makes sure that entertainment is provided. Never seen anyone have as much fun with them as that man."
These are just some of the things people would say about Felix Liam Conners, an Irish immigrant from a town just outside of Dublin. I could tell you the name but it will never show up on a map. He grew up in a common Irish family. His father worked in a factory (and is still there.) His mother passed away while giving birth to him. Had it not been for his four older sisters to take care of him he might not be the man he is today. Everything he learned about woman he learned from his sisters either by watching them or asking for their advice. His father made a meager income and his sisters helped when they could by babysitting, doing laundry or helping to pick crops when the harvest came. This left Felix with lots of time on his hands. When he was a young boy he would constantly skip school to hitchhike to Dublin. Here he would meet up with other "lost boys" and do mischievous things; pickpocket, drinking, petty theft, ect. He would use his cut of the loot to buy his family what he could without raising suspicion and the rest he would use for toys and candy.
When he was fourteen his sister Darla became very sick and his family was too poor to pay for the doctors. The local vet tried to help when he could but they needed money for the medicine. When he told his friends about his situation they all wished him luck but offered no help except one. He suggested that they hit a house and pawn what they steal. Felix didn’t think this would help him get enough money but any would help at this point. All the boys agreed and so they set forth on their mission. They picked the biggest house they could find. Everything was going great until they heard the sound of a pump action shotgun. "RUN!!!!" yelled Michael, Felix's best friend and leader of the gang. While climbing out the window Felix's foot got stuck. He couldn’t move it at all. "Say goodnight ya bastard." said the home owner. You could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. "Go take care o' Dar..." "BOOM!!!" And with that sound Felix was pushed out of the window by Michael's falling body. Running as fast as he could, he ignored the pellets in his leg. He must have run a mile before he finally broke down. "Why? Why did you have to do that you stupid son of a bitch? And you why do you insist on taking everything from me?" He yelled to the sky. "Why? AHHHH FUCK YOU GOD. FUCK YOU!!!!" he screamed. He spent the rest of the night sobbing in an alleyway before finally falling asleep.
It was another day before he made it home. One of the other boys helped him pull the pellets out of his leg and stitch him up. While walking back home all he could think about was what had happened. Why did was everything going to hell? Why was God being so cruel? First his mom, then his best friend, and now his sister was going to die because he failed. It was almost too much too bare. When he finally got home his father and sisters were there waiting for him. "Where have ya been?" his father asked.
"I've been taking care of something. Why? Has something happened to Darla?" he asked, praying that she was ok. At this point he couldn't stand to lose someone else he loved.
"She'll be ok the doc gave her some meds. Funny thing about those meds, they were paid for by some money that some kids dropped off. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that now would you?" his father asked.
"Um no not a thing but wow that’s great news." he choked out tears pouring down his cheek. He couldn't believe his friends actually gave him all the money. He started tearing up thinking about Michael's ultimate sacrifice to save his sister.
"SLAP!" went his father’s hand across his face. "If it hadn't been for that money your sister would have died but don’t you ever lie to me again. Now tell me where have you been and what have you been doing?" his father asked while pulling his son into his arms.
With that Felix told him everything. About where he was the other night and what happened. About where he's been going when he was suppose to go to school. About the other boys. About everything. Not a single detail went missed. After he was finished he was terrified about what his father thought of him.
"So ya been lying, stealing, and cheating, anytime you could to help out this family?" Felix's heart sunk in his chest. Why did he tell his father everything? He doesn't need his disappointment hanging over his head with Michael's death already looming there. His father got up and walked to the fridge, not saying a word. "Well I have one thing to say to you." He began saying as he opened the door. "I'm proud to call you my son." he said tossing a beer at Felix. "You're gonna lead an interesting life one day. But I'm sure the man ya become will make your mother proud also." Those words lifted Felix's heavy heart in a way he didn't think would ever again be possible and those words have stuck with him his whole life.
Six years later Felix is once again going through some tough times. His wife of two years and him are at each other’s throats again. "Why can't ya be a man for once? All you ever do is go down to the pub and drink and whore yourself."
"How many times do I have to tell ya woman I ain't been whorin around. I go down an get a pint is all."
"And what about that gamblin, huh? Do ya think you can keep winning cards and not get noticed? The other girls all talk about it. Ye be pissin off the men o' this town. It needs to stop."
"They are just unlucky saps is all. I ain't been cheatin (but he knows he has been) and if it wasn't for that money I been winnin you wouldn't have all those fancy shoes. I mean really, how many shoes can a woman use in her lifetime? I have one pair. ONE!!!"
"God here we go about the shoes again. Enough with the shoes. If they are such a problem I will sell them and give you back your money"
"I ain't complainin about the shoes woman. I'm complainin about you complainin about my tactics for gettin your God damn shoes. I only want to give ya everything that I can. Don't ya see that?"
"I know that but I don't need more things. I need you around. I want children. I want a family."
"I promise you I want those things too. I swear. All I want is to make ya happy. I promise"
"Really? You really mean that?"
"Aye, I do."
"Awe I'm sorry for yellin at ya. I guess I just get lonely sometimes."
"Don't worry love, I'm always here for ya. I love ya to damn much I swear."
"Aye so do I ya big oaf."
"Beep beep beep" went the alarm on his watch. "Awe shit I have to run love. Got me a poker game at down at Fins."
"Don't you leave or I swear to God I wi...." and with that Felix was out the door and on his way to the pub. The game was long but Felix was ahead. He only had to cheat four times that night. Lady luck was on his side it seemed. But with every shot went his ability to cheat. Hand after hand he began to lose. He could not figure out what was going on. If he lost this game he wouldn't have money for his rent. "What am I going to do?" he thought. Then suddenly it hit him. "Are ya cheatin over there cause I swear I'm countin six aces on the table (there were in fact five but he couldn't quit see straight)." This made the other man realize that he had messed up. "Awe shit" he said and tried grabbing the money and running. He was knocked to the floor after only a few steps by a stranger.
"I don’t think that money there belongs to ya friend. How about we give it back to the nice man"
"You can go f...." and with that, the stranger knocked him unconscious.
"No need to be rude about it. Now friend what say we get ya home?" He said turning to Felix.
"Aye that would be nice but me woman is a weee bit pissed at me right now. How about I crash at your place friend?" Felix asked in a drunkin stupor.
"Is there any man here who can take care of him?" The stranger asked the bar. No one responded. They all just continued nursing their drinks. "Alright you can stay with me till you’re sober enough to get yourself home. What’s your name friend?"
"Superman. Superman von Liechtenstein." he said with a hearty laugh.
"His name is Felix Conners." the bartender said.
"Well Felix it’s nice to meet you. Do me a favor though and don't throw up on me shoes." he said whiling hoisting Felix up and throwing his arm under him.
"God damn shoes. I hate shoes. A millions pairs and she’s still not happy. Wait how do you know me name? Wait what’s your name?"
"Me names Doyle and apparently I'm your guardian angel tonight." And with that he carried him out of the bar. The rest as they say is history.
