DISTINGUISHING FEATURES she is very pale and slim and not very athletic in her humanoid form. in her mermaid form, she has the upper body of an elegant female, with clear pale creamy skin and in general this part of her looks just like she does in her humanoid form, but her lower half has become a long scaly fish tail and her eyes gain a feline slant. her tail is long and is very adequate at moving her through the water and covered in silvery turquoise scales and at the end fans out into a shimmery silver-blue tail fin which acts as a powerful propeller. along her mermaid tail are little fish fin-like things which are silvery-blue in color, like her tail.

OVERALL
Many people get the wrong impression of Kira. They think that she is bland and has no personality because her entire life she has been an obedient little daughter of the Hawthorne clan, brought up in the old fashion manner of being treated more as an object than a person. She was used like a doll, paraded around in front of people, taught how to eat properly, behave properly, and her place in society. And she went along with it for most of her life. But when she gets away from her family and out from under the thumb of the elders that have been controlling her every since she was 12 years old, the year after her sister was banished, she actually has a bit of a wild side. She is actually very energetic and sweet and kind and quite fun to be around if you are her friend. She loves to swim and is not known for having a dark heart like most of her kind. She does not have the cold heart most of her species does and is actually quite fiery when provoked. She has developed a bit of a temper sometimes and has become more and more independent as she is growing older. She takes advantage of every opportunity she gets to have time to herself and has gotten a bit of a rebellious streak from time to time as she really hates being ordered around. She thinks it’s ridiculous when people say they envy her because she is more enslaved in her high ranking position in the family than their lowest servants.

Kira loves water and swimming and has a soft spot for animals in her heart as she is a veterinarian. She loves flowers, especially lilies, and enjoys cooking, dancing, singing, listening to music, and reading, especially fiction fantasy. She loves swimming especially at night under the full moon, under a starry sky. She often wonders about the universe and what is really out there and if there are other worlds like her own. Like anyone else she likes having her way, winning, and having control over her life – she hates when other people make important life decisions for her and then expect her to follow them. She enjoys strategy games though and exercising her mind and her favorite food is seafood. She dislikes that even the people she hangs out with is regulated so much but she knows the repercussions of falling in love with someone outside of her species and thus is very careful to guard her heart when with anyone. Despite all the etiquette she has been put through and how everyone has tried to mold her into this perfect daughter of the Hawthorne family, Kira is actually incredibly smart and quick witted and isn’t the wet blanket that some people think she is when she is around the elders of her clan. She can’t wait till she is older and the elders can no longer control her.

One of Kira’s main weaknesses is her lack of strength and endurance – out of the water. She is quite weak and not very athletic as the only sport she was allowed to do was dancing throughout her entire life and while she loves it, it didn’t make her very good at defending herself. She does not know how to handle weapons, though she has been trying to find someone to teach her, and she has no knowledge of self defense or martial arts, another thing she wants to learn. She has a very low pain tolerance though and if she were to be tortured, she would not last longer than a minute, despite her stubbornness and pride. Surprisingly enough she can put up with a lot of pain when it comes to fashion as she was subjected to uncomfortable shoes and heels and dresses with corsets that synched around her chest so tightly she could barely breathe.

Marie and Richard were very powerful and wealthy members of the Hawthorne clan but wished to further their status in the clan and securing a spot in the family as leaders by enjoining themselves with another powerful family in the clan. They were both Hawthornes but separated by several generations and a marriage and it was in both of their benefits to enjoin their families. So Marie and Richard promised their eldest daughter Arabella to the other family’s son, Dimitri, who was one year older than the two year old girl. Two years after the proposal, Kira was born and she was raised as just another daughter of the higher ranks of the Hawthorne family. She was trained in proper etiquette and raised in a fashion that was almost medieval in its demeaning manner towards women. She was schooled and taught as was considered normal for the twenty-first century and ended up going to college but she was taught to submit to male authority within her family, especially if they were higher ranked than her. She was taught in the arts of dancing and singing and entertaining as a proper young lady of the family. She was known to outshine her older sister in her proper behavior and sweet nature and temperament. Where Arabella lacked, Kira shone through like a little star… which caused quite a bit of animosity between the two sisters.

When rumors started to spread that Arabella was seeing a human being, Kira immediately shunned her, not showing a single ounce of sisterly love or affection and turned her back of the black smudge on her family honor as was expected of her and without the slightest bit of hesitation. She was 11 at the time and still incredibly impressionable and hadn’t reached the point in her life where she would become more independent. When the investigators returned and affirmed the rumors to be true, Kira’s family was given no choice but to shun her along with the rest of the clan and kick her out of the family. Her parents were disappointed and horrified but Kira did not care as Ari had never been kind to her to begin with. The alleged human was found and murdered by a member of the Hawthorne clan for disgracing one of their own. But Kira’s family still wanted the conjoining of the two families to occur so they betrothed the twelve year old Kira to Dimitri without even informing her of it. When her parents died a year later, Kira’s upbringing was turned over to the elders of the Hawthorne family and thus she was raised since the age of twelve.

It was only after her sixteenth birthday that rebellion in the little Hawthorne began to rear its head as she began to question why she had to do everything she was told and why she should just submit. Even though her future was inevitable, she decided she would not go down without a fight… And thus it was that Kira gained her independent streak and a taste for rebellion. She still hasn’t done anything major but she does many little things to spite the people who have been controlling her her entire life. Within the last year she was informed of something that has made her become quite hotly tempered… She was told about her betrothal to Dimitri Hawthorne… She was furious that she wasn’t even allowed to decide who she was going to spend the rest of her life with… But she knows the punishments for breaking the laws of the code of the Hawthornes… And the thought of banishment or death chills Kira from doing anything too bad. All the same, she has been trying to find a way out of the engagement… An engagement to a man she does not even know and who was originally promised to her sister.
