STYLE Melanie is a simply woman with simple taste in clothing. Jeans and simple tops suit her the best though on some days she will wear nicer clothes, like when she goes out. Looks doesn't really matter much to her like they did before since she went blind though that doesn't mean she goes out looking like a slob because she doesn't. One thing that may be noticeable is the face that she almost always wears long-sleeved tops and when she doesn't she wears a jacket regardless of the temperature outside. Her ears are pierced and she always wears a silver chain around her neck with a man's ring on it though she never said where the ring came from. Other than that she doesn't wear much jewelry and make-up isn't exactly easy to apply when she can't see what she's doing so mostly she goes without.

OVERALL
Tough as nails is perhaps the most adequate description for Melanie. She is a tomboy through and through, rough and tumble and doesn't take shit from anyone.
She's a family woman through and through, putting her daughter Samantha before herself and her needs. She is her world and she is adamant in protecting her against anything that may try to hurt her. Melanie is a natural and very nurturing mother, sometimes overprotective as well but she has the best intentions at heart. She is very patient and very slow to anger but when she gets angry, she is a spitfire. Mel often tries to keep it from going that far of course but sometimes things just happen. One thing about Mel is, she has a very good memory and the downside of that, she holds grudges against those that she feels has wronged her in some way.
Having been hunting since she was twelve, Mel is very organized and disciplined as well as determined. She favors following routines and often tries to stick by schedules as they help organize her time better. Melanie does her best to respect others but cannot stand to be disrespected by other people and will speak her mind if she sees cause for it. Stubborn and straight-forward, Mel doesn't sugar-coat things for people because she sees no need. She tells people how things are, regardless of how they may be hurt in the long run.
She is a friendly enough woman, always willing to offer a smile and she has an infectious laugh. Mel is a good and reliable friend, able to keep secrets very well. Trust goes a long with Mel and if it's broken, it's hard to get back. Incredibly self-concious, Melanie suffers from a low self-esteem given all she has been thrown and the burns on her body as well. Because of her handicap she is used to people treating her differently, not that she appreciates or wants it but people do what they want. She prefers not to have special treatment and has done well to work her surroundings despite her blindness.
Melanie is a cynic when it comes to love. She doesn't believe it exists so she tends not to try and look for her. She was hurt once and she doesn't want to go through it again, choosing instead to focus her attention on Samantha.

OVERALL
Melanie Ann Cahill was born on a frosty December night in Cobbtown Georgia to Amber and Kevil Cahill. She was the second child and the only daughter in a tightly knit little family and really she couldn't have been happier. She wasn't really spoiled since the family didn't have a lot in ways of money but she had a mother and father that adored her and an older brother that looked out for her so she had all she needed. The family moved around a lot and her father would disappear with her brother for short periods of time without telling Mel where they were going which was strange but Mel's mother gave the young child a simple explanation, she didn't want to know.
That explanation worked for a while until she turned twelve years old and started to question her father about where he went and why. He tried to avoid the subject but Mel was stubborn and wouldn't let him avoid it for very long, so her father decided it was time to let her in on their family legacy. They were hunters of the supernatural, monsters like vampires and demons were real and they killed them for a living. It was hard to believe at first given her age but over time she came to accept it as truth, learning that her family had been doing it for over six generations and perhaps longer and she and her brother were the next generation of hunters. Fear of the things that went bump in the night changed to excitement as Kevin agreed to train his daughter as he had been training his son. It wasn't just her father that was a hunter though, her mother had been raised in a hunting family as well so it came from both sides.
So began Melanie's training as a hunter and her immersion into the world of the supernatural. All the moving around made sense now and now she went with her father when he went hunting rather than being left on her own. She was taught how to use weapons like guns and knives as well as learning about those she hunted, learning their strengths and weaknesses so she could kill them. Just like other hunters she was taught that all supernatural beings were dangerous and deserved to be killed. It was a war and she was on a side that had a disadvantage, no powers but at least there were more of them.
Mel grew to love her life as a hunter, she found it exciting and thrilling to be in this line of work. Rather than going to school and learning what normal people learned at that age she chose to spend all her time training and learning how to kill and she was pretty good at what she did as well. She was a calculating hunter, preferring to lay traps rather than face things head first since she wasn't the strongest. She was good in a fight but she found that working with her brother, she played the part of bait in order to lure some nasty buggers to where they could be killed.
Everything seemed to be going well until she was twenty years old, that was when the tragedy occurred. The family of hunters went after a family of firetamers. Melanie made a rookie error that got herself burned badly on her arms and her back. The firetamer would have killed Melanie had it not been for her brother's quick thinking. Mason was able to kill the firetamer and put out the flames. In the chaos he was ordered by their father to get Melanie out of there and the poor boy was torn between helping his mother and father and helping his little sister. Mason got his sister out of the building just before it went up in flames, killing their parents in the process. Melanie blamed herself for what happened and would never forget it.
The burns healed over time but the emotional scars remained. She still hunted but she chose to do it alone, never wanting to lose someone because of a mistake made on her part. Mason helped her out every so often but he let her have her space, realizing that he couldn't force her to stick with him if she didn't want to. At the age of twenty-three Melanie became pregnant, she swore she didn't know who the father was and that it didn't matter but it was easy to see that whoever had fathered her child had hurt her deeply by their absence. Nevertheless Mel had her baby and named her Samantha.
It wasn't long after Melanie had her daughter that she suffered another blow that would end her career as a hunter. Mel had figured that she could do what her parents had done, have children and continue hunting but she had been wrong. A faerie attacked her and Samantha in the motel that she had been staying in, getting revenge on Mel for killing another faerie not too long ago. The faerie had gone invisible and slashed at Mel's face with something, the pain was intense but in that moment she was able to tackle the faerie and stab it with a metal knife in the throat. Killing the faerie had felt good but she had lost her sight because of it.
It was then that Melanie decided to retire from hunting, not that she had much choice since she wouldn't be much use as a blind hunter. She instead chose to focus on raising her daughter and dealing with her blindness. It wasn't easy, going from a world of color to complete blackness. It was frustrating, especially since Samantha couldn't understand what was going on but Mel was stubborn and refused to give in. She learned Braille and was given a seeing-eye dog named Sierra. Her brother Mason occasionally helps her with Samantha when he isn't out hunting. He is always looking out for his sister no matter what.
Mel moved to Manuka just recently, hoping to start over in a new place and leave behind the world of the supernatural.

OTHER CHARACTERS Charlotte
RP SAMPLEIt was something that Charlotte was beginning to know very well, the feeling of being alone. It was a painful feeling that came at her when she least expected it. The feeling of rejection that came from yet another failed interview was just too much to bear for the little girl and she told Nina in her own little way that she was done being rejected by people who didn’t want to take the time to get to know Charlotte. They judged Charlotte before they even knew her. At this point Charlie was convinced that she would never be adopted and nothing Nina said would change that as well, she gave up.
Running away from the orphanage was an idea she had, not the temporary kind of running either but rather just leaving it behind her completely and for good. No one wanted her there; she knew that because she could hear what they wouldn’t say. Nina was a nice woman but she was starting to feel that Charlotte would never get adopted either, she denied it of course but Charlotte knew. No one would miss her if she did leave, she was different from the other children but not in a way that was good. She was a trouble-maker or at least that was what the owner of the orphanage thought. Of course there were times when Charlie lost control of her power but that was understandable given that she was so young and untrained. Her power scared her at times but there wasn’t anything she could do to change it, no one to help her control it.
So she ran…
She didn’t really have anything to pack so she didn’t have to worry about carrying anything out with her. As always Charlie waited for everyone to go to sleep before she slipped out of the window of the room she shared with other girls. None of the other girls stirred from their sleep, one shivered but that was because of the cold breeze that moved through the room when Charlotte opened the window. Climbing out, the small brunette looked down at the ground and took a deep breath before jumping down. It was a long fall but thankfully her power softened her landing and she was unharmed. Looking back at the orphanage for a moment, the child ran off, not that she knew where she would go of course but children weren’t all that good at planning ahead. She lived in the now and right now all she wanted to do was get away from the place that seemed to hurt her the most despite their false promise to find her a home where someone would love her as their own.
It was like any other time she had left the orphanage and yet it felt different. She was convinced she’d never go back but beneath the tough ‘I don’t need anyone’ bravado she sought to pull off there was a fear that she’d have to go back anyway because she couldn’t be on her own. It would definitely be a blow to her self-esteem if she had to go back but one never knew.
It was cold outside given that it was winter time, the cold bit through the girl’s thin jacket and had her shivering not long after she slipped outside, her ears and cheeks getting red and her breath seen in the air in front of her but she didn’t care, she kept running from the gloomy looking building. She didn’t know where she was going and she didn’t care!
Well, she didn’t care at the time given the giddiness that such a big decision caused but the longer she was outside she began to care. She had been silly when she ran and hadn’t paid attention to where she was going. She had meant to look for her favourite playground but instead she found herself lost and frightened. She didn’t like this… It was cold and now she didn’t even know where she was going and there wasn’t anyone she could ask either.
The little girl stood in the lights of the dim streetlights and looked around, biting her lip as she did. Which way?
The sound of footsteps could be heard and Charlotte looked over in the direction she heard them, someone that she could ask for directions maybe? A tall man stepped out of the shadows with a blank expression on his face. He had jet black hair and dark eyes that scared her when he looked down at her. His hands were in his pockets as he walked closer. His thoughts were weird, like he was trying not to think of something in particular, like his thoughts were forced in a way. “You lost kid?” He asked, his voice far from friendly. Charlotte could only nod, looking down at the ground and taking a few steps back, feeling very uncomfortable around him.
“I’ll help you out, come with me.” He held his hand out for Charlotte to take and the child hesitated. His thoughts weren’t bad but she was still scared of him. He was a stranger but he was offering her help, maybe he meant it. Biting her lip, the little girl reached her hand up to take his hand. In an instant he grabbed her hand tightly and pulled her forehead, pressing something cold against the top of her hand that burned painfully. Crying out, the girl used her telekinesis to thrown the man back from her, forcing him to release her hand as he did which meant she was free. Taking that opportunity, the girl ran off, tears streaming down her cheeks as she ran because she was certain he was coming after her. What did he want?
Running as fast as her feet could carry her, it wasn’t long before she found herself in a graveyard. How fitting…
Having little choice now, Charlotte tried to hide herself behind one of the tombstones, breathing heavily as she did. She was so scared.
