The Hawthorne Family - mermaid clan

The Hawthorne Clan is made up of many sections, some ranked higher than others, and each section is considered a family as they are all directly related or at least by marriage within at least two generations. All the families go by Hawthorn and are led by two head families which change depending on whos next in line and who's blood line is the oldest and the purest. Every pureblooded member of the Hawthorn family can trace their lineage back for centuries. The pureblooded Hawthornes are higher ranked than the ones who have been adopted into the family as they do not share the Hawthorne blood but they are not treated poorly. They have to follow the same rules as anyone else.

Dimitri, Arabella, and Kira:
The parents of Arabella and Kira and the parents of Dimitri wished to enjoin their two families to further secure their position in the clan and thus betrothed Arabella and Dimitri at birth. Unfortunately, rumors spread that Arabella had fallen in love with a human and was pregnant with a hybrid child and upon investigation, her parents were told the rumors were true and thus they had no choice but to banish her from the family and the alleged human was found and murdered. Still wanting to conjoin their families, Kira, Arabella’s younger sister, was then betrothed to Dimitri instead. After a year of Arabella’s banishment, her parents died, but Kira was still being held to her promise of betrothal by other members of the clan.
