First Glance
The golden hair maiden caught the human’s instantly. She was a faerie, tall, gorgeous, kind, and the dream girl of the human named Benjamin. The faerie, Veronica, was what everyone thought of as the perfect girl. She never got in trouble and got away with everything. All faeries could do that though so Veronica wasn’t special faerie wise. But to Benjamin she was amazing and unlike anything he had ever seen. They didn’t meet at high school, rather in a coffee shop in the small town of Manuka. Veronica was working there at the time for some money to get her own apartment being only 19. She was still in college and Benjamin was a year ahead of her at a different University in Manuka. It seemed like fate that the two met. Benjamin was working on a report for this chemistry class and only went to the shop because he had an argument with his roommate. Veronica was his waitress, but found herself drawn to him and his kind demeanor. The two found themselves talking for hours and not getting anything done. If Veronica wasn’t a faerie she probably wouldn’t have gotten away with, but she was so the manager didn’t even bat an eyelash. The two were meant to be, they just didn’t know it yet.
Forbidden Love
Yes, the two did finally get together. Was anyone surprised? No one. Neither Veronica’s friends nor Benjamin’s. Still, Veronica never told Benjamin about her being a faerie. She didn’t have the guts. The girl was afraid that if he knew that he wouldn’t love her anymore and would be scared of her. Also Veronica’s real form wasn’t too beautiful. It was ugly. It was horrible. It was terrifying. He could never love someone like that. Veronica was sure of it. She also knew that Benjamin would never want the danger that came with being with her. Hunters wanted her dead and most faeries hated humans. Many supernatural hated humans actually. He wasn’t safe with her, but she was selfish. She wanted him. She loved him. She couldn’t give him up. They were soul mates. She knew it. All the stories her mother told her about finding the one were true because she had found the one in Benjamin. He was everyone to her and the thought of letting him go killed her. She would protect him. There was no doubt in her mind that she could do it. So Benjamin stayed oblivious.
A Bond That Can’t Be Broken
Three years after meeting Benjamin finally proposed right outside the coffee shop for sentimental value. Of course the faerie said yes and almost tackled him to the ground from excitement. Veronica still didn’t tell Benjamin about her little secret and she knew she couldn’t tell him now. He would never forgive her and would want nothing to do with her. They were supposed to not lie to each other and she felt bad for lying to him. But this was for their safety and their well being. It had to stay a secret otherwise all Veronica had worked for and strived for would be wasted. Not to mention she’d be losing the love of her life. The wedding came shortly after because they two didn’t want to wait long. Veronica and all her friends were speedy workers and were able to make a beautiful wedding with a loving, homemade touch at every corner. It was Veronica’s dream wedding and she was marrying her dream guy. Life seemed perfect. Nothing could happen that would ruin it. Nothing at all. Veronica would keep herself and Benjamin safe from all that tried to hurt them. So the couple wed and lived happily together as everyone knew they would.
The Stork Brings a Suprise
Veronica didn’t know how she felt about the fact that she was pregnant. Benjamin was ecstatic though. If only he knew. If only he knew the danger that the baby inside her womb would face being a hybrid. A human- faerie hybrid no less meaning that both sides of the war could hate him or her. Those on the dark side would hate them and hunters would find the baby was a big target. Veronica didn’t know if she liked the idea of having a baby that would basically have a sign on it that said “come kill me” on it. But the look on Benjamin’s face made her unable to even bring up the idea of abortion. He was so happy and she couldn’t do that to him. So another secret Veronica kept that ate her upside. Nine months later the child was born and it was a baby girl. The two named her Rayne. Rayne Naiomee Vinly. She was everything they wanted and more. She was perfect with her golden brown eyes and gold lochs. She looked like her mother. Just like her mother.
The Life Of Miss Rayne
Rayne had a normal childhood. She was happy, kind, sweet, and delicate. Everyone loved her and she was a totally momma’s girl. She did everything with her mom and was never embarrassed by her like many girls. She hung out with her all the time and asked her for advice. Veronica never told her daughter about her being a hybrid. The faerie was scared of hurting her daughter and of ruining her marriage. So Rayne grew up oblivious to her powers, which often helped her. Especially in school. She would get away with everything that she ever did even if the teacher saw her doing something bad. Of course, Rayne would try to tell the teacher that she did something wrong, but they would just laugh it off and say that she was being silly. Rayne didn’t get it. She felt bad and some of the kids didn’t like her for being able to get away with everything. A lot of people did love Rayne. She was quite lovable. From the day she could talk she was charming and cute. She was one of those people you couldn’t stay made at even though you wanted to. Even if you did get mad at her though she just naturally got away with it and you would love her again. Rayne just lacked things like leadership and a strong voice. She wasn’t one to speak her mind and still isn’t. That was always her problem in school. She would never want to raise her hand in class to answer a question even though most of the time she knew the answer. She wasn’t actually a very socially awkward person or shy, but she was more reserved. She was quieter than other and more thoughtful. She was more of a follower than a leader, but she was never one for peer pressure. The girl was too innocent for stuff like that. Even at age twelve and thirteen she knew less then all her classmates. Many a time they would say a sexual joke and when everyone would laugh she would be there just clueless to what they were talking about. The poor girl was very oblivious to everything.
Tragedy Strikes
Veronica knew this was coming. She saw this coming for a long time. The hunters were bound to come sometime, but Veronica didn’t know it’d be this soon. Rayne was only thirteen at the time. Veronica had noticed dark looking people following her around and she knew they were hunters. She had been cautious her whole life, but at some point in a supernatural’s life they would have to face the hunters. It was a sad fact of the existence of a supernatural, but Veronica would be prepared. She always had something she protect herself and she even wrote a letter to her daughter explaining everything she needed to know about her world and about who she was. Veronica also included pictures of the different supernaturals and any other information Rayne would possibly need when she grew up. The faerie put it all into a box and locked it with a key that she entrusted her husband with. She simply told him it was for Rayne when she was ready for it and that the longer it was in the box the more sentimental value it held. Benjamin seemed to believe it and Veronica hated herself for lying once again to her husband, but she had to. Only a week later Veronica was killed by the hunters and they left her body on her front lawn for everyone to see. The sight of her dead mother horrified the young Rayne and left her scarred with the image of the bloody woman she loved. Rayne’s mother was gone and the killer was never caught no matter how many hours they police looked for them. Not only was her mother gone, but so was her chance at ever learning about her life and what she really was by a real person.
Life Keeps Going
After the months of grief and sorrow Benjamin and Rayne learned to live with only each other. Their bond grew closer and things got better. Rayne continued living her life unaware and Benjamin never gave her the box. He was never sure when she was really ready and he was afraid of causing her more grief. So he kept the box and the key. He never opened it though and he never let Rayne see the box. She had to stay oblivious to that too. But life went on and the two made it. Now, Rayne is currently a senior in Gracedown Highschool and is excited to start her life, but not so excited to leave the comforts of home.
Miscellaneous Letters
Note from First Grade teacher
Mr. and Mrs. Vinly, Rayne is a great student and very kind. She’s smart and a good student. The only thing is that it seems like she wants to get in trouble. She always comes up to me telling me she did things that she clearly didn’t do. I’m worried that maybe she thinks that the other kids won’t like her unless she gets in trouble. She is a rather sweet girl though and it was a pleasure having her in my classroom. I hope she does well in Second Grade and learns that she doesn’t need to get in trouble to fit in.
Note from Fourth Grade teacher
Mr. and Mrs. Vinly, your daughter is very smart. She just needs to get out of her box and believe in herself. She almost never wants to answer the answers in class, but she almost always gets 90s and above on her tests. She also has this tendency that she seems to not have outgrown. She still tries to get herself in trouble, but none of her teachers are exactly sure why. She’s a wonderful girl and I trust that she will prosper in fifth grade.
Note from Seventh Grade teacher
Mr. Vinly, First off, I’m sorry for your loss and I hope you and Rayne are okay. From what I know of her, Mrs. Vinly, was a great person. Rayne seems unresponsive and I understand that she is grieving. I hope that she will recover, but before the death of your wife she was kind and lively. I noticed that she is quite innocent for her age too. When her science teacher was teaching about the parts of the body Rayne seemed embarrassed and almost confused when she got to the reproductive system. Overall she is a great student and I hope she gets better and can heal.
