A splash rippled the water of the pool. Everywhere else in this old gym, trash was strewn about. But not the pool, mermaid made sure it was perfectly clean, it being one of the only places they could get away with a quick swim. Today, a dark haired 17 year old occupied it. Misaki’s tail propelled her through the cool water, with ease. The light reflected off her tail, catching its silvery red color. Giggles bubbled up from the normally singer, she felt so much better! Stress had really been eating at her….with her 18th birthday only a few days away….her record label stressing the importance of selling her new album….it seemed the water washed away all the pressure…and she was glad. If it wasn’t for her little swims and her music…she would have broken a long time ago. Finally she broke the surface of the water, tossing her long dark hair back away from her face. A serene smile tilted up the corners of her mouth, as suddenly felt the need for music. Clasping her hands over her chest she took a deep breath, launching into her song. The one she was singing was from an anime she saw, which ironically enough, was about mermaids, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, or so it was called. “Itsuka, konna hi na kuru to yokan shita…? Koi ni tomadou kokoro yurete yurete itai hodo…” the song was about falling in love, and was quite beautiful. She became so lost in it, that she didn’t hear the nearby footfall. ------ Notes: the song is Piece of Love for lyrics with english translation click here

Cade wasn’t sure what had brought him to the old part of town, why his feet had taken him to the old gym. Sometimes there was no rhyme or reason to what he did, and this was one of those times, he figured. The problem was that Cade got restless easily. If he had nothing to do, he was out walking around, trying to find something. He guessed that was what happened when you had eternity; you got bored quickly. Or maybe that was just him. It probably was, because every Immortal and angel he had ever met never seemed to have the same issue. Things probably came down to one crucial fact. You either dealt well with eternity or you didn’t. There wasn’t really an in between, unless you based it on a day to day basis and then it wasn’t entirely accurate. Caden obviously fell under the second category. If he wasn’t sucked into his Xbox, he was out looking for some sort of excitement. Even on the days that he did spend cooped up in his apartment all day, Cade found himself out at night doing the same exact thing.
That was the best reason the fallen angel could come up with as to why he was here. Caden entered the old gym through a pair of side doors, ones that were never locked. He looked around the basketball court that used to hold games. Now it was covered in dust and random piles of junk dotted the floor. One of the nets was completely gone, the other slightly tattered. Cade found himself wondering if the old gym would ever be fixed up, or if it was doomed to rot. Shaking his head, he headed out to the pool area. He knew that it was always clean and while he had no intentions of swimming, it might be a place to just relax for a moment. As Caden approached the pool, he heard singing. The closer he got, the louder it became and he realized that it was in a different language. Cautiously opening the door to the pool, he found a young woman in the pool. Unsure of whether or not she had heard him and not wanting to startle her, he didn’t say anything.

Misaki’s voice rang out loud and clear, and finally the song came to an end. Dropping her hands with a soft sigh, she slowly turned around. That’s when her dark eyes connected with him. She could tell that he was older than she was, and was quite handsome, but at this moment in time, it did not matter. Her eyes widened, as she dove down into the water. It wasn’t that she was shy…Misaki was never shy….but that if he was a human and he saw her tail….she’d definitely be in for it. “Please…anyone but a paparazzi or human…” she silently begged, inwardly sneering at the word ‘paparazzi’. She hated the whole lot of those slime bags….ruining people’s careers and reputations for a quick buck…they seemed to be around every corner these days….So she couldn’t be too careful. Finally, deciding she couldn’t stay down there forever, she swam up to the surface of the water, and edge of the pool. She made sure that whoever he was; he couldn’t see the lower half of her body. Sunlight made it’s way through the old windows, past the dirt which stained many of them. She watched as it reflected on the man’s golden hair. There was no way a human could be that beautiful…..no offense to them…but it just wasn’t possible, at least, not with the humans she’s seen. Now the question had dawned on her…..if he wasn’t human….what was he? Truly? Finally…she spoke what was on her mind. “Who….are you?” she asked. She was a little hesistant, but her voice didn’t waver for one moment. The mermaid had always been a rather honest and confident one, often landing her in a heap of trouble.

Caden stood in the doorway, listening to the final notes of the song the girl had been singing. Whether or not he understood the lyrics (and he most certainly did not), it had been beautiful. He almost wished it hadn’t ended, not when the last few notes ringing in his ears left him craving for more. And then the fallen angel was woken out of his amazed state by a splash coming from the pool. So he had startled her. Dammit. That had been the one thing Cade had been trying to not do. Sure, half hiding behind the door didn’t help matters, but he wasn’t sure what else to do.
Finally, Cade stepped out from behind the door, but didn’t do move much more. That way, the girl in the pool could see that Caden meant no harm, but he wouldn’t get too close for her comfort. He was beginning to wonder just how long she could stay under the water, though. It was beginning to feel like a long time and Cade wasn’t sure if she had passed out or something. The fallen had been in the process of taking a step in the direction of the pool when she resurfaced and he took another step back, hands up in a surrender position. The blonde honestly didn’t want the girl to be scared. She had been here first and Cade had barged in. He didn’t even really belong here. “I’m Cade. But…uh…I can leave if you want,” the blonde offered, pointing over his shoulder to the door he had come in and taking another step back. “I honestly didn’t mean to bother you. I’m sorry.” He couldn’t stop from apologizing.

Misaki raised a perfect eyebrow. It was obvious he didn't figure out who she was (both race wise and status wise) and was keeping who he was secret as well. But, she felt the edges of her mouth tilt up in a smile.
"I'm Misaki Akino, and you don't have to apologize, just do me a favor and knock next time?" she grinned a bit, then shrugged. Something shocked the temperamental girl, he...actually kept her interest, a very hard thing to do indeed. Misaki got quite bored of things easily...most times she would just walk away or ignore the person, or be straightforward and tell them so.
"You don't have to leave, i don't mind company." she said, a slight smile gracing her face. Then something occurred to the mermaid. Her smile transformed into once again, another smirk.
"I take it you hear me singing. So....what did you think?" she just had to ask, she wanted to start SOME kind of conversation with the young man before her. Then a problem dawned on her...she couldn't get out of the pool...otherwise she'd risk her entire secret getting out, especially if she was wrong about who she assumed he was.

Misaki. That was a beautiful name and Cade found himself wondering if it meant anything in her language. He was never able to tell the difference between Asian languages, never took the time to bother trying. Caden, unlike most supernatural who were immortal, didn’t spend every waking moment studying and learning. He had never liked learning all that much and absolutely hated school. What would the point be to torture himself for an eternity? The blonde would much prefer to just enjoy life as he wanted to.
“Then I guess I’m here to stay,” Cade said with a smile, walking over to the bleachers that were opposite of the pool and taking a seat. He propped his one elbow on his knee and rested his chin in a cupped hand. “Your singing was beautiful,” the fallen said honestly, his smile brightening slightly. “Do you mind if I ask what brought you here? Doesn’t seem like a place a pretty girl should hang out.” And it wasn’t. The only people Cade knew who decided to swim in the old gym were mermaids, mostly because they were relatively safe in here compared to somewhere like the beach. Though he was starting to get curious as to why Misaki was still in the pool. Not that it was that big of an issue; he had just thought that if she started a conversation with him, she would have gotten out of the pool. Maybe she was uncomfortable.

A soft smile tugged the corners of Misaki’s mouth upward, as she watched him with interest. “Thanks.” She placed her elbows on the cool, cracked cement which surrounded the perimeter of the pool, propping her head up. She was starting to take a liking to the blonde, a thing that was rare indeed, especially for someone like the mermaid before him. Her dark gaze focused on the handsome man before her and her smile transformed into a slight smirk as she heard him ask his question. Misaki didn’t lie, so she told him the truth, but that doesn’t mean she had to say absolutely everything. “I’ll tell you if you return the favor, kay?” she said. “I’m here because I wanted to get away for a bit, and just relax, can’t exactly do that anywhere else with the crazed fans and paparazzi following me around everywhere.” She sighed, she really hated that, they had no idea who she was yet they all claimed to love her, that wasn’t the type of love she wanted, not ever. “Now it’s your turn handsome,” she smiled, returning the earlier compliment. “What are you doing here in a place like this?” she twirled a wet strand of dark hair around her finger, as she looked at him curiously. She had always been a very curious one, another one of her little qualities that often got her in trouble.
