Jessamine was bored. She had absolutely nothing to do. Her father was gone for the day and her little sister had a friend over. She was sitting in the library, just paging through a book, not even reading it. A small knock sounded at the door and the maid, Mary came in. With a dramatic sigh, Jessamine put the book down and smiled at Mary. "Is there anything I can get you, Miss Middleton?" Jessamine thought for a moment. All she wanted right now was to be out in the sun. "Would you mind if I went for a walk?" She asked politely. Mary had been with her family since her father was a young boy, so it was imperative that Jessamine be nice to her because her father had a soft spot for this particular maid. "Would you like me to go with you, miss?"
Jessa really wanted to be alone, but she didn't want to offend Mary. She looked the older woman up and down and sighed again. "I really would prefer to be alone, Mary, if that's alright," she said. Mary smiled at her. "No problem miss, I'll just tell Henry you'll be off on your own." Henry was the butler and the man who tended the gate. Jessamine nodded and thanked Mary, rising to walk to the front door. On a second thought, she hurried upstairs for a moment to let Rose know she was heading out. Her sister could care less, so Jessamine hurried back down the stairs and out the door.
As she passed the gate, Henry waved at her. "Be safe, miss!" Jessamine smiled and waved in return, assuring him she would be. She had no idea where she was going, she just let her feet take her wherever they wanted to go. She passed a few people on the street, none that she knew personally. She wasn't really paying attention anyway.
She ended up in town, walking among the little stands of various items being sold. Jessamine mentally kicked herself - she had forgotten to bring money, which was very unlike her. Oh that was okay, she didn't mind just looking for the time being. She came across this one little booth that was selling the most beautiful necklaces and she bent down to admire some of them before moving on to the next booth. She wasn't watching where she was going and she accidentally bumped into a person who was standing near the edge of the booth she was approaching. She took a step back and placed her hand over her mouth, her eyes wide. "My goodness I am so sorry!" “Thomas! Thomas!” yelled his father from the stable. “Where is that wretched boy?” he mumbled to himself as he dropped his favourite geldings back hoof and walked out of the stable and into the sunlight. He shielded his eyes from the sun and squinted out across the farm. Thomas was nowhere to be seen. “Bethany!” he called out to his wife as he trudged down the small slope to the vegetable garden where Tom’s mother was working. “For god’s sake Beth, I’m calling you” he said stopping in front of his wife. She looked up at her husband her huge hat shading her face. “What is with all the yellin’?” she said with a frown. “Have you seen Thomas, I have been calling him for twenty minutes?” he asked folding his arms over his chest. “He isn’t here, I sent him to the market about half an hour ago” she said looking away from her husband and back to the vegies. “Great, perfect, you could have told me, woman’ he said turning on his heel and stomping his way back to the stable, Tom’s mother just smirked a little bit and continued to dig, she loved tormenting her husband.
Meanwhile Thomas was enjoying himself thoroughly in the market, it was nice to get away from the farm, staring at dirt and pigs all day did become a little tedious. The sound of frantic market owners and angry customers was fantastic; he loved the change in atmosphere. His mother had sent him to the market to pick up some more seeds, she had rattled off a bunch she wanted and Thomas practically ran out the door. He planned to stay as long as he could in the market because he wasn’t sure when he would be able to get away from the farm again. He looked at all the stalls and admired all the products. His mother had given him enough for the seeds and a little extra to treat himself to something nice as well. He stopped at the stall of seeds and rattled off all the seeds his mother required and the small fat man running the stall quickly started to gather up all he had asked for. While he waited for his items his eyes drifted off to the next stall and they were selling flowers, roses and tulips and daisies. They were nice but not as nice as his mothers.
The little fat man then gathered his attention away from the flowers and held up a brown paper bag that contained the requested seeds. Thomas paid the man and reached out to take the bag. Someone then bumped into him and he stumbled back a little bit. He looked around to see a beautiful girl standing there, she started to apologise. He smiled to her and held his hand up as in to say stop there, it isn’t necessary. “No need to apologise no harm done” he said smiling. He had never seen this girl before but he rarely got to the market so he wouldn’t have noticed her anyway. He then glanced down at his clothes and hands there were covered in dirt, he should have cleaned up a little bit before he came here but he didn’t think he would be making the acquaintance of a beautiful woman. “My name is Thomas” he said rubbing his dirty palm against his breeches before reaching out and picking up her hand and kissing her knuckles lightly. He was a gentleman, his mother didn’t raise him to be a bastard guy, Thomas was nothing like his arrogant father.

Jessamine's eyes widened when the guy she bumped into turned. He was pretty good looking for a commoner. "No need to apologize, no harm done" he said and Jessamine smiled. He then introduced himself as Thomas before wiping his hand on his pants and kissing her hand gently. She normally would have been sickened at the thought of a dirty peasant touching her, but for some reason she didn't mind. She smiled up at him and felt a small blush creep across her cheeks. "Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Thomas. I'm Jessamine Middleton." The instant the words were out of her mouth she regretted them. Everyone knew of the Middleton family.
Sometimes she cursed her family for being rich. Wherever she went, people always oogled and googled at her like she was some being other than human. She loved being rich most of the time though. She could have whatever she wanted whenever she wanted, and she never looked as grimy as most of the people she had seen here in the marketplace. She had a lot of conflicting emotions about this topic.
Wanting to change the topic, Jessamine looked at the bag in Thomas's hands and motioned towards it. "What's in there?" Normally she wouldn't have been so nosy, but she was curious. She never really got to see things like this. It was always the finished product. For instance, she was standing in front of a booth that was selling flower seeds. She had never actually seen a flower seed, just the flower after it had bloomed and been picked. And she was interested, wanted to learn about this kind of thing.

Thomas couldn’t help but smirk at her blushing cheeks as he kissed her hand. Usually when he did this head got a filthy look and the hand he was kissing was being ripped out of his grasp like he was diseased. But not with this girl, she was clearly of noble status and she didn’t seem to be outraged that a dirty commoner like himself touching her. He smiled when she introduced herself as Jessamine Middleton. He instantly knew who she was, his father supplied meat and grains to her father. They had a lot of mouths to feed in that big house and his father’s cattle was the best in the land. So technically the coins he had used to buy the seeds were her father’s coins, thanks to Mr Middleton. Just because Jessamine was rich and extremely well known he wasn’t the least y intimidated by her. She was beautiful beyond words but he was well brought up not to oogle her. “The pleasure is all mine, Miss Middleton” he said even though she had introduced herself using both her first and last name, he had enough manners and common sense not to call her by her first name, a lot of people of her status found that disrespectful for a commoner to be so causal.
She then looked to the bag in his hand and asked him what was in there. It was a blunt sort of question but he didn’t take offence, he would have looked like ungrateful commoner if he had of complained about her blunt noisy question. Besides he didn’t mind sharing what he had in his hand, after all the longer he got to talk to her the better. He opened the paper bag and dug his hand inside it. He then pulled out a small clear plastic bundle; inside the plastic were small black seeds. “These are tulip seeds” he said holding the bag up so she could see it. He then looked back to the flower stand and tossed a coin to the owner and plucked out a soft pink tulip and turned his attention back to Jessamine. “This is obviously what they look like once they have been grown and picked” he said and lent in a little closer to her and whispered. “But once my mother is done with them, they will look so much better than this one” he said with a friendly smile and held out the flower for her to take. He didn’t care much for status, he believed if you have things in common with someone then a friendship shouldn’t be shunned between the two just because of social status.

Despite the class barrier between them, Jessamine liked this man. He was very polite and a true gentleman. So very much different than the other suitors she had had recently. They had all been arrogant and unbearable, only talking of themselves and it had started driving Jessamine crazy. The last guy that had stopped by her home had been there for only a couple of hours before Jessamine demanded that he leave. Her parents hadn't been too pleased with that, but she hadn't cared. She refused to be married to someone like that. Let alone bear that person's children. It was too much for her.
So those were tulip seeds? They looked interesting. And she felt incredibly ignorant and rather stupid for not have ever knowing about this. For some odd reason she wanted Thomas to teach her about all of these things that she didn't know about. Which was really strange because she had just met him like 2 minutes ago. "But once my mother is done with them, they will look so much better than this one," he whispered to her and handed her the most beautiful pink tulip. She blushed again, feeling it creep along her cheeks. "So your mother is good with flowers then?" She asked, trying to get her mind off of her blushing. It was a bad habit of hers, she blushed very easily.
What kind of scared her was that she was completely enchanted by this very good looking man. He might be a little dirty, but that didn't matter. She looked at his muscles and smiled to herself. None of the men that had tried winning her over had muscles like that. They fell very short of this man. Even though the suitors looked the part of the upper class, Jessamine liked muscle. It gave her reason to feel safe with him. God forbid if someone broke into their house, they wouldn't be able to do anything. But, Jessamine thought, this man could probably keep a pack of dogs away from her.
Good lord what was wrong with her?! She was thinking way too much about this. She wouldn't possibly continue on with this relationship after she left the market place today. She was merely being nice for the time being, and she was being completely enchanted by this stranger. This was so unlike her. She blinked and focused on the tulip in her hand. She fingered the soft petals, trying to imagine anything being more perfect. I guess I'll have to see for myself, she thought. If his mother could make a flower look more perfect, she wanted to learn how as well. It was a beautiful art to be able to create a beautiful thing like this.
