Westley Taylor could honestly not remember the last time when he did not feel alone, like the whole world was against him. It hasn't been that different since the time he was eight. That was the time he had honestly felt alone, with no one and nothing to take care of him. But he never let that engulf him, he had always been a person who worked hard to take care of himself, and since that time he was so independent. Not allowing himself to show weakness, to show that he was afraid, or sad, or lonely. He hasn't really been able to be himself around people, because he didn't allow them to come close. Maybe that was a part of who he was now too, maybe because he had shut down and didn't allow people to come close cost him any people that would be close to him, any people that would make him not feel lonely. Apart from very very few people that is.
He remembered the day that he had met Elizabeth Jeggard. They had both been after the same supernatural, an immortal, he was an old immortal, and very very strong. Wes got into a bit of a bother with him, because his hunter ego had taken a toll on him, and that was when Beth came in, all dark and fierce, killed the bugger while he was distracted with Westley and basically saved his life. He owed her like he had never owed anyone. He took her out for a drink. And yeah, they became fast friends. They shared a fling, but Wes had grown to like the girl. Sure, it was nice to have someone constant to sleep with once in a while, but it was more than that, because after he had lost his brother he hadn't had any sort of care like that for anyone, so he basically felt like she was almost his sister, he cared about her, even loved her. Maybe it was because he found out about how similar their pasts were, and they both needed someone looking after both of them, they took to an unspoken bond of taking care of each other.
And now it was her birthday, and Wesley wanted to make her happy maybe for just one night. He promised himself he was gonna make her laugh that night. He wasn't sure if she was busy or not, but he knew that if her plan's weren't all too important, she would actually drop them to see Wes. He pulled out his phone as he got out of his shower and got dressed with a quite text;
Beth, My flat. 7:00 PM. Be there. x Wes.
He was satisfied after he sent that. He knew that her siblings would have had the same birthday, he just wanted to try and make her a little happier for one night. He knew that it was maybe a little weird for Westley to be doing this, yet for Elizabeth he felt like because they had that connection, because they were so similar, he didn't want her to be feeling like he was. He wanted her to feel like she had someone out there that cared about her. He told her a lot of things about himself, but Westley knew that he could never say a word to her about Alix, and their new found connection. With Alix, he had felt so happy, so light hearted, like it didn't matter what she was because she had said she would stay and she did. He knew that if he said half a word to Beth about liking a supernatural, connection or no connection, she would kill him herself, and that was one of the reasons why he liked Beth so much.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #000000, width: 300px; height: 300px;] suppose I kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall ‘Happy fricking birthday to me’ She thought bitterly and she laid on the cold wood of her living floor just staring at the white fan spin around and around and around. In her hand she gripped her switchblade and stabbed the floor repeatedly with it. Her switchblade was her favorite weapon by far. Beth didn’t know if that there was no chance of hit cutting her while it was strapped to her leg or it was the thrill of flipping it out, but she loved it. It fit her hand nicely and Beth felt comfortable with it. Her switchblade was actually her first ever weapon. After her brother’s death she found herself a mentor and he gave her the switchblade. Beth was unbelievably clumsy and awkward with it at first because of the fact that she had never used a weapon before. Prior to the death of her brother she was such a shy and sweet girl. One that almost never talked to knew people unless she was with her siblings. It was hilarious looking back on who she was. All of her hunter friends would never believe her especially because of who she was now. Beth was now cold and guarded and ruthless. She had no one to live for and her family was gone so why be cautious? All Beth was to kill as many supernaturals as possible. She wanted them gone. All of them! They were mutts and freaks of nature. Useless! All of them! They only spread pain and destruction and chaos. They killed her brother and turned her sister into a mutt. A fricking werewolf. How embarrassing. Beth had only found this little surprise out recently and well it hadn’t gone well. Beth shot Delilah in the stomach and she had no idea if the mutt was still alive, but did she care? Not one bit. It didn’t matter to her. Delilah was no longer her sister. She was a werewolf and a supernatural. Disgusting. Beth didn’t want to be related to that in any way. Oh God, what if someone like Wes found out about Delilah. Beth would just have to convince them that Delilah meant nothing to her.
Speaking of Wes though, she hadn’t seen him in a couple days. She wondered where her best friend was. It was kind of funny how the two met. Beth had been walking around the streets looking for supernaturals to kill when she saw two guys fighting each other. One was a supernatural and once Beth got close enough she recognized one guy as an immortal that many hunters were looking to kill and Beth was one of them. Taking the opportunity to kill the high status supernatural, Beth attacked him and gave him a sharp impact in his heart. It was the only way to kill immortals after all. Killing the immortal felt great and she barely had a scratch on her. After words Beth learned more about Wes and how they were so alike. Their personalities and history. After a few drinks they had a fling together, but it was never awkward between them. They were more like distractions to each other and Beth was fine with that. It didn’t bother her. Wes was like a brother to her, but she could sleep with him just because she could. It was a win win situation.
Then her phone buzzed in her pocket and she slipped it out. Sliding her phone up, she looked at the message and smiled. It was from Wes and it was telling her to come over to his flat at seven. Looking at the clock she saw it was almost seven so she grabbed her black combat boots and laced them out. Walking out the door she ran a hand through her straightened brunette hair. Sitting in her car she checked her red lips to make sure that it made gotten messed up. Red lipstick was part of the little makeup she did wear. Beth just didn’t feel like wearing makeup a lot. She didn’t want to look desperate of something. Red lipstick always looked good on her though for a reason she didn’t know. May be it was her icy blue eyes. Again she didn’t know. Either way it was a good match for her. When she finally came to Wes’s house she knocked on his door and called out, “Hey let me in. It’s Beth.”

If Wes knew anything about life, he knew that many people here in Manuka had deep dark secrets that they would rather die than tell anyone. For the fear of being jeered at, not accepted, tortured or even killed. Secrets do that to a person, but Wes also knew that they do come out. They come out eventually, no matter how hard you try to keep them away from people. But Wes indulged in the fact that people didn't know his secrets yet, that he still kept them in the sweet oblivion that meant that they didn't hate him, but after his secret comes out he knows there will be hell to pay. As he waited for Elizabeth, he decided to get her surprise ready. He knew that she probably thought because he was a guy he would have forgotten her birthday, but he wouldn't. Just as she knew that she would not forget his. But he hoped that this will be a nice surprise for her anyway.
He grinned to himself as he heard the rap on the door, looking at his watch he saw that it was one minute to seven PM. He called out a "Coming!" as he switched all of the lights off, and hurried to the door, knowing that if he kept Beth waiting she would get impatient, she always did. He opened the door just a crack, before slipping outside, not letting her in yet. He had a grin on his face as he closed it. "Hello, Beth. How's it going?" He asked, just to break the ice a little before thinking to himself that he promises to make her laugh, even for one night. "Right, so I'm totally gonna cut to the chase." He said, the grin evident in his voice as he looked at her, he was excited, it was a nice change from anger while he was hunting. What were friends for eh? To keep you happy is all.
"First off, you look great." He said, as he looked at her face, the red lipstick bright, and her blue eyes icy. She looked casual, but she did look nice. "Second, no I did not forget it was your birthday." And now his smile got even wider as he looked at her face for some sort of reaction, as he knew that the hard expression would at least change minutely. "And third, I have a surprise for you, it's small, but still." He said with a tiny shrug. It wasn't anything elaborate, he just wanted to make Beth feel special on her birthday. And Wes would make sure that he did it. "So, what I will do now, is cover your eyes as you go in okay?" He knew that this was so cliched and cheesy, but he hoped that this sort of motion would lighten her up a little bit.
So, he moved behind her, covered her eyes with one of his large hands, while pushing the door open with the other. He pushed her forward a little bit so she wound enter his flat. It took his eyes a second before they got used to the darkness. Wes moved close to her ear and murmured. "When I remove mu hand, you may open your eyes." He said, and if he was honest, he would not do something like this for anyone but Beth. When she opened her eyes, she would see a cake, with two candles on it in the shape of two's, and bottle of champagne and a back box by the cake containing his very first knife when he had become a hunter. It was sliver and black, but now the blade had small tiny EJ on them. (knife) He had engraved it with her initials, and this may sound sappy, but she deserved it. They have been close for years now, and he made sure to treat her on her birthday as he would his sibling, and even this seemed a little too small. Still behind her, he removed his hand and said; "Happy Birthday!" With a grin.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: #000000, width: 300px; height: 300px;] suppose I kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall
“Coming!” Wes’s voice said from behind the door. Sighing she leaned up against the wall and waited for him. The only thing was that waiting wasn’t Beth’s best talent. She hated sitting around waiting for something to happen. Ever since her siblings were attacked Beth had been more jumpy and eager to move around more. She wanted to always be doing something productive and that would make her better at something. It could be anything from chess to killing super naturals. Actually Beth was pretty good at chess. It was the strategy that she liked the best. She had always beaten anyone that tried to play her. Beth always was pretty good when it came to strategy. That was what she loved the best about hunting. The strategy. It was thrilling and fun. Analyzing the situation and then acting on it. Seeing it all play out and right was definitely the best part. It gave Beth a sense of accomplish and every hunter knew of how Beth had to have perfection. If she didn’t it killed her inside to the level where she’d crumple into a ball and cry, but not in front of others. No, she never cried in front of people. It showed weakness and vulnerability and Beth wasn’t either. She was tough and a rock and not the kind of person that be hurt. Her armor was too strong for that. What armor you say? The one that she grew after the death of her triplet and brother, Hayden. Once that happened she was no longer shy, little Beth, no, she was the strong Beth, the one that no one messed with. It was funny because even though Wes had seen so many things from Beth and on Beth and well all of Beth. They were basically friends with benefits, but also best friends. Beth wouldn’t lie and say that they had never done it before. They had done it on the first day they met. Then whenever they felt down or lonely they’d find each other and be a little less lonely with each other. Soon it turned into a friendship between the two hunters and it had been smooth sailing from that, but the one thing that he had never was Beth crying. She just couldn’t cry in front of him. She didn’t want to feel weak around him. She wanted to feel like his equal maybe even above him. In Beth’s opinion, Wes and she were equal and even though they were best friends Beth was always trying to get better than Wes. It was because she wanted to be the best and most skilled hunter there was. She wanted to be feared by all and be able to kill supernaturals in the blink of her icy blue eyes. One day that would be. Oh yes, it would be. She’d make sure of it.
Tapping her fingertips lightly on the wall she watched Wes slip through the door and began to walk toward the door, but then he closed it. Beth arched a brow in confusing wondering what in the world was doing. Sometimes he was just so damn confusing. It was sometimes annoying, but she learned to deal with it. They were friends after all so she got over his flaws. “Hello, Beth. How’s it going?” He said his voice happy and she started at him blankly. Why was he so happy? Biting her plump, red lip she shrugged weakly. “Well…today kind of sucks.” She admitted her tone emotionless. Today did suck though even though it was her birthday. It really just reminded her that her siblings were gone and that she’d probably never see them again. Wasn’t that just delightful? Yeah. It isn’t. That’s the problem. It sucked! It made Beth feel worse that she couldn’t save them from their terrible fates. It killed her inside and made her wish that she had died on that warm summer night where her world went upside down and was ripped apart. Thinking of that made her glad that she had her rock, Wes, to always be there.
“Right, so I’m totally gonna cut to the chase.” Wes said his face full of smiles and happiness. This made Beth worried. What was going to happen? Beth had no idea, but she knew that she didn’t like surprises and this definitely was going to be that. “First off, you look great.” Wes said and she let a little smile come unto her face. Running a hand through her straightened hair she looked at him happily. He always did know how to make her happy. “Thank you.” She said in a soft tone. “Second, no I did not forget it was your birthday.” He said his smile growing and she groaned. Her smile fell off her face and she wished that Wes had forgotten about her birthday. It was the one thing that she didn’t want to think about. “Wes…you really didn’t have to do that.” She groaned trying to get him to forget about her birthday. But it was Wes and he definitely wasn’t going to let this go. He had something planned. She just knew it. “And third, I have a surprise for you, it’s small, but still.” he said almost exploding with happiness. She sighed and said trying to still get him to forget it, “Wes, you really don’t have to do anything.” It was pointless though. Wes had already planned it and he was going to act on it. She just knew it. She really did. Still she was hoping that maybe, just maybe she could change his mind and not have to celebrate her birthday. She’d rather go hunting then have to celebrate it.
“So, what I will do now, is cover your eyes as you go in okay?” He said and she gave up. She nodded her head and allowed him to cover her eyes. He nudged her and she began walking fluidly into his flat with his large hand still over her now closed icy blue eyes. She could only imagine what was going to happen. The only thing that Beth wished was that it wasn’t a surprise party with a lot of people because she’d strangle Wes in front of them all. Big parties were one of the things that Beth hated the most. “When I remove my hand, you may open your eyes.” He whispered into her ear. She nodded and fluttered her intensely blue eyes and saw a cake with candles on it, a black box that held her present, and a bottle of champagne. She smiled and heard him say, “Happy Birthday!” She turned around quickly her brunette hair flying behind her and hugged him tightly. She then kissed his cheek lightly and then placed her head gently in the bend in his neck. “Thank you.” She said happily.
