"Oh, hm. I guess I should go into detail about myself, considering the fact that I look like any other ditz on paper. Manuka born pretty girl with ambitions to become some sort of big shot stylist? It's, like, seventy percent of the female population's American dream, right? But I stand out in a crowd, I think. Or at least I have the tools to. To be honest, I don't do well in crowds if I'm in the middle of it all. Attention makes me nervous: I've always been more of a behind the scenes kind of person. Not to be confused with a homebody: I can't stand being stuck at home. I get restless and antsy. I need to be doing something productive. Productivity is like a natural high for me. It makes everything have a purpose. I just don't understand how people can sit at home, watching television for hours on end like they do. I think nothing less of them, of course. I just can't empathize with them, is all. Really, I get along with most people. It's my belief that there is something that you can find in anyone that makes them worthwhile. Even the most unsavory people have something to contribute to society; they're just a little misguided, that's all.
A lot of people mistake me for being very chaste and innocent: I think it's the red hair and freckles. For some reason, that just screams 'inexperience.' Of course, I'm not particularly rebellious. I guess I'm just, well, normal. Not favoring either extreme. I'm painstakingly polite. Maybe that's another reason why people can't see past that sweet façade. I've been ornery before. Sort of. I've gotten into verbal arguments, anyways. And with this war, well, I've gotten into a few scrapes. But I just sort of ran away from those. Or flew. Did I mention that I'm a shifter? My other form is a swan. Ironic, isn't it? An animal that is symbolic of beauty and I'm a cosmetologist. Bradley thinks it's funny too. Mm. Brad. I love him so much. He's a hero, that one. My hero, as it is. And he's so incredibly sweet. I can't say that I'm against his chivalry. I mean, I'm no feminist, after all. I pretend that he goes too far on occasion: but he knows I'm smitten by it. God, I miss him. He's been overseas for so long. And everyday he's put in situations where... Ugh, I don't even want to think about it."

Born in the month of April, Jolene was the second child of Paula and Jonathan Campbell, two shapeshifters who had met at the precinct they worked at, both police officers, both Manuka originated. She was the only child of the four that would be born with red hair and freckles, being that the gene was recessive in both of her parents. As a young girl, Jolene was an incredibly talkative and full of questions. A good deal of people found her constant chatter adorable to only a certain extent before they admitted that she was a bit obnoxious. But she was forgiven for her irritating manner because it was all just a child being a child. Children should feel comfortable asking questions. And so everyone tried their best to answer Jolene's inquiries as best as they could. There are no stupid questions was the motto that they all lived by. And when her younger siblings, the twins susan and cindy, when she was four years old, another barrage of questions reached the slightly overwhelmed family. But, with the love and patience of any parent, they continued to give their daughter as much attention as she could be allotted, keeping in mind their other children as well. Divvying their concentration into four different kids was a bit overpowering but they managed to pull it off magnificently.
As a teenager, Jolene's parents were strict with her and she mostly attributed such strictness to their being involved in the force. However, the main reason behind the Campbell's firm upbringing was simply because the four children were all very difficult to handle and keep reigned in, so close in age as they were; Ryan being the eldest by a year, Jolene following and then Cindy and Susan being four years apart from their sister. Keeping them in line was tough enough as it was. Giving them all separate guidelines and responsibilities based on age and personal experience? It was damn near impossible. So they settled on giving them all the same rules; curfews, chores, etcetera. And the system worked for the most part. The kids weren't especially rebellious, Ryan coming the closest when he was caught with a half empty bottle of tequila stashed under his bed. And he was punished for the crime. Thoroughly. The two parents were above physical consequences as it was. But they could run a household like a prison yard if provoked. When they had all been invited to their friend's, the Cooper's, they hadn't anticipated the meeting of Jolene and Bradley.
However, upon arriving, Jonathan picked up on the coincidence of Jo and Brad being the same age and found himself almost uncomfortable. He would have said something to his daughter, his first born baby girl, in order to stop what certainly imminent, but he wife erased all fears from his mind. Brad was a good boy. If something were to come of this, he would be good for their daughter. She also reminded him that they were still very young and that nothing might have come of the situation at all. Not too soon after having met, Jolene and Brad had begun dating. They were inseparable. Absolutely attached at the hip. Granted, in their sophomore year of high school, the two of them had split for awhile and in angst-ridden, teenage fashion, Jolene had sought attention from another boy. An older boy. The union didn't last more than a couple weeks however. So when Bradley and her reunited, she neglected to mention the other. Besides, nothing lasting had come of it. They'd used protection when they did do anything and now that they weren't speaking, it was almost like he never existed. Only Bradley existed, as far as she was concerned.
