SHE'LL BE THINKING OF ME even when she's with you Elijah really tried to figure out what had been the point where he started to like her. For him, it came upon him slowly, and he didn’t realize it until later. It could have been the several times she came up to him with a smile on her face. Perhaps whenever she would find him with a hangover (like the time he woke up behind the bike sheds) and it would be like this light at the end of the tunnel. It was really hard not to like her. Elijah didn’t think he was very deep into it yet, but it was a small puzzle to him what changed. He had never been the one to act upon his feelings. He was uncertain if it was because he was a guy, or if it was simply because he was Elijah. That part was unclear. The only thing he really knew was at the party, he had really realized it. He realized it drunk (and Elijah knew how much of an airhead he was after he had several), but the feeling still came all the same. One little move caused this giant mess. Would he have changed it though? Not a single fucking bit. He bet that’s what Derek knew. He was also to bet that’s what bugged Derek.
What came next out of her mouth sounded like it was coming from someone else. Elijah at first wasn’t sure if he was hearing it right. That he was inferring the wrong thing and it turned out the pair was playing chess or something. Yet, Elijah wasn’t stupid. He knew by the way she didn’t look at him what that meant. Once everything comprehended, he stared at her for a couple of moments. She said someone else’s name? Oh shit. Okay, well, that was bad. But it didn’t really change her opinion about him, crazy enough. A very deep selfish part of him was smirking, but the rest of him was focused on how surprised he was. He just had a hard time picturing it. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t say it wasn’t her fault. That was a pretty substantial thing to be at fault for. At the same time, Vaeda’s mind had been freaking out the entire night. No wonder she wasn’t in the mood.
She looked up at him with big brown puppy eyes. Elijah bit his bottom lip and nodded, ”Okay… that’s… pretty bad.” Elijah wasn’t a very good liar on the spot but he was always quick to recover, ”But look at you. You’re a mess right now. Clearly you care. Clearly tonight your head wasn’t… in the game.” He also was slightly curious about who it was, but he figured he better not know. That was asking a little much, especially considering he was surprised she told him about that. He also had the temptation to tell her to break up with him, but he was bias in the matter and was sure it was his own head rambling and getting excited. ”You two love each other. Just talk to him after he’s calmed down and sober up.” The first part hit him hard for whatever reason, but he pushed it away. Just keep pushing and drink it off later.
Was that a compliment? Elijah smiled a little bit, echoing hers as he stood a little straighter. Well one thing was certain- Elijah was pretty ripped. Because of his disadvantage he had against supernatural, he always tried to keep himself in shape. If he was going to be human, he was going to be as strong as he could be. He really didn’t’ like admitting how much he hit the gym. Made him feel like he was trying too hard. Still couldn’t not like a guy who liked to keep himself in shape though, right? ”It’s cause I was in the suit. Brings out my eyes.” He shrugged like it was no big deal. People said that he had pretty eyes. He guessed they were pretty bright. It wasn’t as if he put very much thought into it. His eyes did turn a little darker when she mentioned it. It wasn’t her. It was just the words. Elijah had heard it so many times before so he wasn’t sure why it bothered him anymore. The point was that it did bug him. Really cut deep to a point where he couldn’t dig himself back again. Vaeda realized it and tried to correct herself a couple of times. ”It’s okay Vaeda. It’s true. We’re not really known for our strength.” Or anything for that matter except numbers. Except that didn’t even apply in Manuka.
Elijah out of everything would have liked to think that he wasn’t a bad person. He wasn’t sure how big he was on the good person level, but surely he wasn’t evil or anything. But he didn’t think she was talking much more about that. Just a bad person in general. Bad son. Bad guy. There was little in this world that he found success at. He couldn’t even fight someone who could hardly speak. It was all because of his disadvantage. Elijah often wondered how much better life would be if he hadn’t known anything about supernatural. If he just remained in the oblivious that was the supernatural world. He thought about going to a witch or warlock to see if they could whip a forgetting potion, but then he thought about all the cautions he took as a human. Without knowing about supernaturals, he was likely to get himself killed. That was never a good thing. He didn’t comment, knowing it’d be useless to try to get her to understand that one. She walked over and lightly gripped onto him. Elijah embraced the hug, wanting to bury his face in her hair, but he tried not to get too couply. As much as he would have wanted to- he couldn’t complicate the already complicated aspects. Damn it, why couldn’t he have her? He had done a lot of bad things in his past, but was it worth this? Probably. Quite possibly.
When she broke, he felt almost in a small daze. Like he was dizzy and sleepy that had nothing to do with how much he hurt and the time of night. Yes movie sounded good. Anything to get his mind to settle. ”Yeah, would love to.” He walked over to his movie selection. How Elijah gained so many Disney movies he had no idea. Suspected Autumn kept bringing them and forgetting to bring them back to her house. But his list was small but varied. No romance. Too weird. Probably not an action. Then… it happened. Elijah smiled and held up the Breakfast Club. ”This.” It wasn’t phrased as a question, but he still looked over for approval. enough words for fuckincirce and emily and she's wearing thisVaeda didn’t like not having control over her feelings and her life. Usually she always knew what was going on and how it was affecting her and what exactly she was feeling, but since that night at the party with Elijah, everything had been turned upside down. She didn’t know how she felt towards Derek or how she felt towards Elijah. She knew she loved them both, but it was in what way that she was confused about. That kiss shared with Elijah had been one of the best in her life and she had never felt anything like that when kissing Derek, but did it mean that her feelings for Elijah were stronger or were they just drunken lustfulness? These were the questions running through her mind rampantly even now while she was with her friend.
Vaeda looked down at the floor after confessing what had happened earlier that evening. They way Elijah told her that what she had done was bad only made her feel even worse and she felt tears stinging her eyes. She blinked them away because she didn’t want to cry anymore. “I know, but that’s what makes it so much worse,” she said, her voice cracking towards the end. “I shouldn’t have done it because I’m such a mess, and I still did.” Vaeda sighed heavily and tucked her hair behind her ear. She tried not to replay the scene in he rmind over and over again, but she couldn’t help it. Her cheeks turned bright red and she avoided eye contact with Elijah. She was really glad he hadn’t asked whose name she had said because she wouldn’t have been able to lie very well and it would be a hundred times more embarrassing that she had come here afterwards. Elijah spoke again, pushing her thoughts away.
He was right, wasn’t he? Vaeda did love Derek, right? She sighed again because she didn’t know if that was really true. She did care a lot about him still and always would, but she was unsure if she loved him like she used to. The fire and passion that had once burned in their relationship was long gone and they rarely ever got to see each other because they were both so busy with work and school or both. She finally looked up into Elijah’s eyes and shrugged. “To be honest, I don’t think he’ll forgive me anyways. And I don’t blame him.” She ommitted the part about where she didn’t know that she loved him anymore just because she was still unsure of it herself.
When Elijah stood up a little straighter and smiled, she shook her head slightly. “You should wear a suit more often then,” she said. Elijah really did have gorgeous eyes. She knew he probably didn’t think much of them, but compared to her boring brown eyes they were really something else. She wished she had vibrant eyes like Elijah, but she doubted she would appreciate them like she did now, so she was a little thankful. Actually, noticing now (and not for the first time) Elijah had a lot of nice qualities about him physically. He was tall and his cheekbones were perfectly sculpted and his lips were full and soft. His body was muscular, but not so noticable that it was super defining; instead just enough to make you feel like you could be safe around him (though Vaeda knew she’d be safe without him, too because of her own strength). And his hair was perfect for running our hands through. She caught herself staring a little and looked away.
Vaeda tried to comfort Elijah, but it had turned out horribly, so she just shut her mouth. She hated it when she could tell that he was hurt by something she said but didn’t know how to explain what she meant. She definitely hated that he was a human because of his family and what they did to him. She wished he could be something, a werewolf or a vampire even; maybe an immortal. She wondered if he would ever give up his soul to be an immortal, though she couldn’t see that happening.
When their hug ended, she asked about a movie. Elijah agreed and picked one out. Vaeda nodded at his choice, The Breakfast Club, and smiled. “I love that movie,” she said as he put in the movie. She sat on the couch and pulled the blanket from on the couch over her legs even though she wasn’t cold. Oreo came from a chair across the room and sat on her lap. Vaeda started petting her when Elijah came and sat down beside her. Vaeda looked sideways at him and then at the tv when the movie started. By the middle of the movie she had fallen asleep and was leaning onto Elijah. She dreamt of the day she and Elijah had found her and buying food and toys for her. When she woke up it took her a second to remember where she was. Slowly she sat up and blinked a few times. Oreo was now sitting on Elijah’s lap purring softly as she was drifting into sleep. The credits were rolling as ‘80’s music played in the background. “Elijah?” she whispered.

SHE'LL BE THINKING OF ME even when she's with you The human couldn’t tell her that it was nothing because bullshitting to her wouldn’t do any good for her. It wasn’t as if he could lie to her very well anyways. When he lied, it was usually right through his teeth and it was usually because of his lack of respect for the person. Despite what she just told him, Elijah still respected the hell out of her. Vaeda was such an overly kind person to everyone she met. Did she even have any enemies? He had never really seen her angry fighting with someone before. He didn’t think that it was even in her nature. Obviously there was probably a werewolf side of her lurking and waiting to strike if someone threatening did come about, but he doubted there were such people. If Elijah were a firetamer, he was sure that any threat toward her would be dealt with accordingly. Another strength he was missing. He wasn’t able to protect anyone. He wasn’t able to protect himself hardly. What was he supposed to do with another person?
Okay, Elijah couldn’t really tell what she meant by done ‘it’. Whether it was name shouting or… the other thing that he didn’t really want to think about it. Therefore he didn’t really ask. Elijah wanted to say something comforting and encouraging. His own focus was on trying not to make Vaeda cry. ”I don’t think that makes it worse. I just think that all of it was bad timing.” Probably a drinking Derek didn’t really help the situation. Elijah was just taking a guess on that, of course, but he didn’t think that it would be better. Clearly the guy was a little crazy on the bad side when he drank. Elijah at least was a happy drunk. Her mind was not in the game either. He still remembered what she said before she stormed off. Yeah, her entire mind was not on Derek that night. Whether it was just himself or not, he wasn’t sure. The curiosity pricked at him, but it wasn’t really something he was going to push. No matter what they were at the moment, he thought at the very basis, he was her friend. Friends wouldn’t do that.
Vaeda was sitting there and blaming herself. Elijah somehow felt that he did that to himself quite a bit. Always blaming his human faults for the mess they created in the family even if the being human part wasn’t really his fault. He felt like it was somehow. Like at birth he decided to choose the wrong path. Elijah didn’t really realize this connection, however, and thought it was silly that all of this was blamed on her. What she did wasn’t really honorary, no, but that didn’t mean she needed to beat herself up for it. Was she not allowed to make a mistake in a relationship? Elijah was pretty sure that Derek had made a couple of mistakes himself that was overlooked by Vaeda. It was also the more critical part of him speaking in his head, but whatever worked. It made sense to him. ”He’ll forgive you.” They loved each other. That was what love was supposed to be about right? Love for Elijah was always a tricky thing. Could someone start loving another and then stop? It made him nervous. That happened all the time. Soulmates might have been a different manner, but Elijah didn’t really believe in soulmates. It was a made up fairy tale for those that thought it would be better if they stayed together forever. They called it something. That’s all it was.
Elijah wasn’t really the type to have the attention on his looks, but anything that was going to distract her from what she did. Anything to distract her from whatever made her upset was going to work for him. She shook her head as Elijah chuckled, ”That’d be classy. Maybe I’d take up on that offer if they weren’t so damn hot.” He remembered how much he was burning up at the castle. That could have been the alcohol too, but either way, he just remember sweating. Elijah would bet money that he wasn’t alone on that either. ”Guys take off their jackets for cold girls not only for the girl, but also for the fact they are dying, I guarantee it.” Talking about something so simple made the tensity of the room ease up a little bit. With that, he realized that he was starting to become sleepy. His poor body had worked hard that day and now it was screaming at him to just stay still and let the healing begin.
Who didn’t like The Breakfast Club? No one, that’s who. Elijah remembered his parents always sending him out of the room when he was little. It seemed like such an innocent cover, so he didn’t know what the big deal was. After her saw it when he was older, it was a little more understandable. He set up all the little controls and buttons to start the movie, looking to where Vaeda had been to see she wasn’t there anymore. She moved over to the couch, looking like she was finally relaxing a little bit. With a sideways smile, Elijah took a seat on his couch beside her, also seeing the cat already was warming up to the werewolf. Most other werewolves made the cat run for it. Oreo looked over at Elijah, as if the cat was trying to say something, but Elijah didn’t have the gif of animal talking like Vaeda did. It didn’t take very long for Vaeda to fall asleep once the movie began. He couldn’t really fall asleep during movies, although he was exhausted. He just stared at the screen, blinking sleepily, repeating the lines under his breath. In the middle, he felt Vaeda leaning against him. Very gently, he kept an arm around her, taking just the small moment what it might have been like if Vaeda was his. He dare not wake her. She already been through enough. Oreo moved laps, demanding Elijah take his free hand to pet her. The credits were rolling and Elijah was at a conflicting part of moving and waking her up or staying there and trying to reach the remote with his foot. He had almost gotten it when his name was whispered. Damn, well that failed. Elijah’s attention went toward her, titling his head down slightly, ”Yeah?” He answered just as soft.

enough words for fuckincirce and emily and she's wearing thisVaeda never in a million years would ever hurt Elijah. Even saying things about him not being a firetamer were bad though and she knew she should keep her mouth shut, but sometimes it just slipped out. If she could take back her words she would because she knew that deep down they had hurt his feelings even if he didn’t show it for her sake because he knew she felt bad the instant she said it. That was why she thought Elijah was a good person—well that among other things, but that one was most prominent just now. Elijah thougt of others before he thought of himself a lot of the time and would do anything for her, even when she was a shity person like just now. It only made her feel worse because she was supposed to be just as good to him as he was being to her, but apparently tonight it was just her turn to be the asshole of the night. It felt unfamiliar and made her feel guilty and she hated it. She wanted to go back to being the nice one. She hated this.
All of this guilt of the events of tonight wore on her heavily and she felt like she was about to break. The way Elijah looked at her made her throat tighten up and her eyes sting with tears. She could tell he was trying not to make it seem as bad as it was, but she knew better. What was worse than thinking of some other guy while you’re having sex with your boyfriend? And even worse than that, thinking about your best friend who you also happened to kiss mere nights before while you were getting drunk with him. There was nothing Vaeda could imagine could be worse than that and that was exactly what she had done. Vaeda simply sighed because even though Elijah was right about the whole timing thing, she couldn’t really imagine that there was a good time at all to yell out someone else’s name. But she didn’t say as much because she knew Elijah was just trying to help her cope with what she had done. So far it wasn’t working very well, but she was glad that he had tried his best. It was the reason she had come to him in the first place. If she went to her sister or her brother they would probably look at her like she was a monster and would have no sympathy for her. Though she knew that she didn’t necessarily deserve any sympathy, she knew that if she didn’t have it right now she would basically break into a thousand pieces and nothing would be left to pick up. She would have been completely heartbroken and no one would have been able to reassure her that everything would be okay. That was why Vaeda trusted that Elijah would do just as he did tonight. Even though she didn’t feel better about herself, she did know that Elijah was right and everything would eventually be sorted out. He would probably eventually forgive her, and everything would be okay.
Vaeda sat on his couch though and pet Oreo, trying not to show that she was still just as sad as before. She looked up at Elijah when he told her that Derek would forgive her. She didn’t believe him, but the thought of Derek forgiving her after that only made her mad at Derek. How could he forgive her for something like that? He deserved to be treated a million times better than how he was being treated by Vaeda. Derek would never forgive anyone for doing that to him, so why should she be forgiven? She supposed, as she looked at Elijah with a nod, that it was because he loved her. Why, she didn’t know right now. She was the worst girlfriend on the face of the earth.
Vaeda put on a semi-happy face for Elijah because she knew he’d worry about her and she didn’t want that. She grinned at Elijah as he chuckled. “Well there are many layers,” she said and looked at his outfit. He was wearing a three-piece suit, no wonder he was burning up in that thing, even if it was wintertime. “Well, either way, we love it when you men do that,” she replied. Vaeda usually didn’t need much to cover up because her body heat was much higher than a humans or the other supernaturals other than firetamers, but the gesture itself was adorable and was appreciated it even if she got hot, too. Usually after a few minutes if she started sweating she’d take off the jacket and put it somewhere so that neither of them had to wear the hot ass jacket.
There was a strong sense of wanting to curl into Elijah with his arm around her and staying there forever. Elijah made her feel better, safe. She no longer thought about Derek or what she had done, but instead kept her mind on the music playing in the background and the way Elijah smelled along with the cat. Oreo, who had blinked awake, looked between the two before returning to her attempt at sleep. Vaeda took in a deep breath and exhaled softly, sleepily. He answered her with a soft voice and she said, “Just seeing if you were awake.” A big yawn escaped her lips before she asked, “Do you mind if I stay here? I don’t think I can drive home.” Another yawn broke through and she covered her mouth with the back of her hand before leaning into Elijah a little more. He was really very comfortable.

SHE'LL BE THINKING OF ME even when she's with you Those that knew Elijah well (and that was few) knew he was a sucker for the broken. Honestly, he didn’t have a clue as to why. Why would it matter to him? The man was pretty messed up and covered it up with alcohol, but he didn’t think he was as far as broken. Almost all of the women he had a crush on- after he found out he was a human of course- were in some way this sad girl who looked like she was going to fall apart by just sitting there. It was bad enough with Vaeda anyway, but when he was looking at her now, he saw that ghost of a woman trying to keep it together. He had always known Vaeda as fun, strong, independent. He was looking at a much different woman. One that struggling with her inner self and having a really rough time. A woman that made mistakes. Now was breaking because of them.
Little did she know that Elijah’s heart was slowly breaking in the process. But he kept a straight face. She didn’t need to know what was going on in his own head. That would just make things so much worse. She didn’t say anything after that, which was almost worse. Say something. That you believed his words and wasn’t about to break down once again. Elijah wanted to help without overstepping his boundaries. Little impossible at that point. He was already stepping all over all kinds of boundaries. What would he do if they were just friends? Whenever someone really needed him like this, he was doing things like this. What made it different? Oh right- Vaeda was the one who made it a little different for him. All these special exceptions for her. He didn’t mind that. Not one bit.
Vaeda didn’t mention anything else until the talk of the tux. Just something simple enough for them to focus on. With a half smile, he remembered the fuss his family had over something as simple as that. They even forced Logan into a dress. He was pretty sure she made a bigger fuss getting into the dress than Elijah had groaning over the damn tux. Another thing the cousins had in common with each other. Listening to Elijah actually made him laugh. He had never been much of a gentleman. Even when he was normal. Sure, he did the normal prom gentleman thing, but overall, he would never call himself one. So when she mentioned that, he couldn’t help but grin and feel just a little bit of glowing pride. Oh, so that’s why guys did it. To get this kind of praise. The good guy was never something Elijah was in any situation. In the situation of his family or in the situation with Vaeda and Derek. He was in fact, the other guy. ”Oh good, we do too. If I ever even did that.” The last part more to himself than to her. Would he ever do that? Be the good guy gentleman that he was actually raised to be. Which actually said something about his parents. Not only look at him, but look at his sister. She wasn’t exactly the ladylike woman his mother hoped. Not in a way that Logan was, but in a little bitchier way. Saying quite a bit or anyone who knew Logan.
Elijah didn’t know why he almost felt disappointment on what she told him. What had he been expecting from that moment? For a moment, her looking up to him like that, it was perfect. The moment. For just the smallest of seconds, he forgot everything else. He even left out the throbbing pain he was dealing with. Still, Elijah didn’t show it. Not even in his eyes. The human should have known better. Whatever had been planted at the back of his mind was burst into flame as quickly as it came. He took a deep breath with a half smile showing on his face, ”Eh, you can bet on me being awake. I don’t think I’m getting much sleep tonight.” One would think after a beating he took, he would sleep like a rock. Nope. Too much going on in his mind. He knew himself too well to know that he was going to sleep with any peace that night.
As for her staying there, she didn’t even need to ask. There had been plenty of people who stayed at Elijah’s place. He wasn’t sure what about this house was a small sanctuary, but it made sense. Just somewhere normal to get away from whatever household in there. He would not call it a sanctuary, but he wasn’t the one who was trying to get away from something else. Well- he was, but nothing a house he was going to hide from. No, she shouldn’t be driving home anyway. ”Course you can stay here Vaeda.” It was kind of pointless to ask if it was okay with Derek. It wasn’t going to be because it was Elijah’s house and there was the whole reasons he came here type of thing. The stupid thing was, he was sleepy enough and dazed enough that he almost asked it. Times he was glad no damn immortal was around poking through his mind. Those were his least favorite. Who the fuck gave them that ability? ”I’ll stay on the couch. No arguing.” He warned, knowing that he should at that point get up, but for some reason feeling that she was leaning into him now more than ever. If, in another world, they were to have a first kiss, it would have been here. He felt it. But that would complicate things up more than any of them could imagine. Instead of causing trouble, he looked back up at the screen. So this is what it felt like to be a gentleman? Oh, well for future reference- fuck that.

enough words for fuckincirce and emily and she's wearing thisBeing friends with Elijah could be frustrating sometimes. She always thought so highly of him and tried her best to get him to see and understand why he was such a good person. Vaeda wasn’t normally friends with people who didn’t deserve her or her friendship, so why would she be friends with Elijah if he wasn’t a good person? In all of the years she had known him she had been trying to get him to understand this and it seemed that he still didn’t get it through his thick skull. Sometimes Vaeda wanted to slap him on the back of the head. But right now, she could understand what it was he was feeling, even if it was on a tiny scale. Vaeda had never hated herself more than she did tonight. She thought so low of herself and didn’t think she deserved any form of kindness, but there was Elijah being a good friend to her. She didn’t deserve him or his comforting words because she knew that what she did was wrong. There was no way she could ever forgive herself for this.
There was a small thought in the back of her mind: Is this what Elijah felt like all the time? No wonder he drank his life away, she thought. But he couldn’t help the fact that he was a human. He had no choice in the matter. Vaeda had had the choice, however, to think of Elijah while having sex with her boyfriend of three years. Vaeda thought that it was a big enough difference for her to still be right in the matter because she was wrong in her ways while Elijah was mad at himself for existing as a human instead of a firetamer. So she was right in wanting to hit him upside the head and make him realize what he was thinking was wrong. Vaeda would one day justify that point to him even though he wouldn’t listen, but today was not that day for her mind wondered quickly back to self-loathing almost as quickly as it had to thinking about Elijah’s feelings.
Elijah had a way of making her feel better though, even if only for a little while. She made herself fake being content for a few minutes before actually attempting at forgetting about what she had done. Talking about suits was the start. “You’ve probably done it at least once. What about your prom date back in high school?” she asked. Elijah was a perfectly good gentleman when he wanted to be so she wondered why he didn’t wear suits more often. Especially when they looked so good on him. Vaeda reminded herself that Derek, too, looked dashing in a suit. And though she had never really noticed so much how comfortable Derek looked in one, she could instantly tell that Elijah looked like he wore them all the time. He looked more confident in a suit than she ever remembered Derek being. Of course Derek didn’t naturally scream confident in any situation like Elijah, but that was just his personality in general. He was shy and even had a stutter while Elijah held a pseudo-confidence about him that made everyone believe it was real.
Knowing him for so long meant that she could read his face, even when he tried to hide his feelings—well, especially when he was trying to hide them. Vaeda could tell there was something going on inside his head, but she was too tired to ask what he was thinking about. Bothering him about it wouldn’t get her very far anyways because she knew he’d most likely make up a story about what was bothering him even though it wasn’t the truth. So she put it in the back of her mind and decided to just let it be. He deserved as much since he was being so good to her tonight. If she could she’d give him a big ole hug, but she might hurt him even more and she didn’t want to make his bruises even worse or his ribs crack. He had gotten enough of a beating tonight from Derek, which still pissed her off thinking about. “I doubt I’d get much either if I hurt all over,” she said.
Vaeda felt relief was over her when he said it was okay that she stayed there tonight. She didn’t know why she hadn’t initially thought it wouldn’t be okay, but she was just glad she didn’t have to drive home so late. Also the fact that she’d be with him more made her feel a little better. She was sure he hurt all over, but she couldn’t help herself. She had to lean into him more. She felt safer the closer she got to him. Vaeda never wanted to leave this moment; she didn’t want to forget the way he smelled or the way his arm felt around her or the song, incidentally enough, titled “Don’t You (Forget About Me)" that was a soundtrack to her thoughts. Vaeda smiled to herself. But it disappeared as soon as he said that he was going to sleep on the couch. Without pulling away from him at all, her head shot upwards so that she could see his face better and she shook her head. “No way you’re sleeping on the couch. I won’t let you.” Vaeda’s eyebrows shot together. He would need somewhere to spread out and there was no way he was going to be able to do that on a couch this size.
But something struck her, Her face relaxed a little and her voice softened. “Remember when we were kids and we had sleepovers?” she asked. “We’ll share the bed. We can put a pillow between us or something if it makes you feel better,” she smiled a little teasing him in the slightest. Even though they were much older now, it was still almost the same concept. Who cares if kids slept in the same bed? They didn’t know any better and no kid wanted to sleep on the floor. Plus it made for better nightly conversations. She and her friends would often stay up late talking about boys or clothes or any number of other things until the wee hours in the morning when they finally couldn’t talk any more. SHE'LL BE THINKING OF ME even when she's with you Prom date in high school? Elijah made a light laugh that hurt his chest a little bit. Oh, Vaeda always looking for the best in people no matter what circumstances. He hadn’t realized she had been doing that long before time. It made sense considering his friendship with her brother. They basically grew up together considering the Sabrer and the Way family were both large supernatural families (so it was approved by both sides). Isaac was a pretty cool dude. So much had passed since then. He hadn’t even remembered the last time he saw that man. Now here he was, being closer friends with his sister. Yeah, if this ever got out, he was going to have to apologize for that later. For now, he was just focused on Vaeda, listening her talk about Elijah like had been the proper gentleman. He huffed. The only time he had been a gentleman was family events. Him smiling, making fun of his cousin for being such a strange outsider, and being overall charming and a bit of a douche.
Looking almost a little ashamed, he reached one hand over and scratched the back of his head, ”I might have. Except back then, my prom date would have rather dropped dead than wear more clothes. Or ruin whatever outfit she had on.” What had he saw in girls like that before? Oh yeah. Elijah had been the typical ‘guys only want one thing’ type. The ones that dads warned their daughters about. See how much that did him for now. He had no idea what some of his other high school friends had been up to. They must have went to the big town or something. There were few that actually came back to Manuka after high school. It was the wanting to get out of the place you grew up. Why Elijah didn’t, he had no idea. He always made excuses for himself, but never really thought specifically why he couldn’t bring himself to leave. Clearly it made him un-happy. Being around all these memories in a town that was ruled by the supernaturals and its giant families. Elijah just…. Couldn’t bring himself to do it. In other words, he was fucked.
Did she have to word it like that? Hurt all over. Yes, he did hurt all over, and yes, that was the thing that was going to prevent him from sleeping. He looked away from her for a moment. A sinking feeling was developing in his chest. Elijah wanted to say something to add, but he couldn’t bring anything to come to his mouth. No words were able to form by that simple play of words. Vaeda hadn’t meant it. No, she would never do that on purpose. She was kind. He didn’t care what she had done with Derek all that night (although the man was curious as to whom it was, but he dare not ask her about it). She was still the big hearted person he knew her as. If she wasn’t that person, she wouldn’t have felt so bad about it. No matter what he might have thought previously, he really did want the best for her. If the best for her was Derek, then he didn’t want them to split. Hopefully they’d work it out. Not that he would ever admit that to himself. He could repeat it in his head all he wanted, but it’d never sink in. That was his problem- not hers.
He knew that was coming. Even though he specified, no arguing, he saw her change positions. She didn’t exactly pull away from him in the moment of peace, but she did go enough way so that she was able to look at him square in the eye. It actually made him smile. Seeing her suddenly go her usual Vaeda on him. It was like pressing the rewind button before everything became complicated. ”Won’t let me? My house, my rules.” He grinned, knowing that despite that rule, it would be no matter to Vaeda. She wasn’t going to let him as much as he wasn’t going to let her go out on her own. ”Come on, my couch is comfy.” He added, considering that’s where the pair was right now. He could just lean down and fall asleep there. He was sure of it.
Her plan wasn’t all too bad. Elijah paused. She did have a point except she didn’t have a clue in the world that the different between then and now was the way he felt about her, but it wasn’t as if he was going to bring that up. Both of them would be comfortable. Elijah just hoped that he wasn’t going to spread himself all around the bed like he usually did. He wasn’t exactly small. It was a way for both of them to be happy with the results. Still, it was leading to more than he needed. The pillow idea was the selling point, ”Fine. But I warn you- my bed is smallish.” Obviously couldn’t be too awful small for him, but he had to at least warn her about it. Plus, he squirmed. He didn’t know how much moving he’d do that night though. Considering every time he was going to grunt and groan. ”And I wiggle. Or what I’ve been told.” He wasn’t even going to go into who told him that. Talking about bed partners with Vaeda made him way too extremely uncomfortable.

enough words for fuckincirce and emily and she's wearing thisIt killed her when Elijah thought lowly of himself. She felt like shaking it into him that he was a great human being and he needed to stop being such a Negative Nancy about himself. He was one of the best people she knew and even if he wasn’t always the perfect gentleman it didn’t matter. There was still that part of him that was and that was better than having none at all. Vaeda wouldn’t be friends with him if he was a terrible person, which should have said it all to him. But no, he still thought that he was just a poor ole human, only making her want to shake him more and yell at him to stop being stupid. But instead, Vaeda used her words. She had never been the kind of person to put her hands on someone, especially not a human, who she could accidentally injure. She would never tell Elijah this, but most of the time she was afraid of hugging him sometimes because she always forgot how strong she was and she could crack his ribs by just giving him a hug. And she really hated that because it was a sensitive subject for Elijah. She always felt so terrible when she accidentally said he was weak. It wasn't like he could help it! He was born a human and that was no one’s fault.
The laugh escaped her lips without her even realizing she was amused at what he said. She knew she should rag him for being such a jock that had a prom date like that, but instead she patted his shoulder and shook her head a little. Of course Elijah was going to take some slutty girl to the prom, he was one of the lead football players or something (she was terrible at sports references) and girls wanted him at whatever cost. Most of the time that cost was being a slut, but hey, that was their decision. Vaeda had never been one of those girls. She always wore the proper clothes that suited her body type and never revealed too much skin. She didn’t have a bombshell body, but her curves were enough to get her noticed by a few guys back when she was in high school. She had gone to prom with her boyfriend at the time, who was a sweet guy. But they broke up at prom because she wouldn’t go to the after party, which was going to have a lot of alcohol and probably some drugs. And he wanted her to sleep with him and she hadn’t been ready. So for her, prom wasn’t the happiest memory, but she was glad she hadn’t lost her virginity to him because he turned out to be an asshole.
Vaeda saw the look on his face. She wanted to reach out and touch his shoulder, but she was pretty sure he was bruised there and she didn’t want to put him in any more pain than he was already in. So she clenched her fists and pulled her hands closer to her. If only she could comfort him with a hug because obviously her words were betraying her. She just couldn’t say anything right tonight and she was making him feel bad and she felt like she was going to cry if she couldn’t just tell him something and make him feel better about everything. She was terrible. She huffed out a small sigh and inwardly hit herself.
Her mind instantly moved from that subject to where they were going to sleep. She wouldn’t move from this spot if she had to. There was no way in hell she was going to let him sleep on the couch when he looked like that. Vaeda was a very stubborn girl when it came to things like this and Elijah should know that. “Yeah and your rules stink!” she replied. She sat up even straighter and shook her head. “It’s not comfy enough to sleep on unless you're drunk and don’t care that you're sleeping on a damn couch.” She crossed her arms under her chest to show that she wasn’t going to change her mind. If she had to she’d fall asleep on the couch with him and they could suffer together.
But she really didn’t want to sleep on the couch, so she came up with a solution. “Well, I’m small too, so it’ll be fine.” Vaeda was only about 5”2’ and weighed no more than about 120 lbs., so she couldn't take up that much room. “Wiggle?” she giggled a little picturing Elijah squirm while sleeping. She thought it was hilarious, but didn’t say as much. She wondered who had told him that he wiggled. She felt a little pang of jealousy and then remembered that it wasn’t her place to feel jealous of anything other girls did with him. She had Derek… even though she didn’t feel like she did anymore after what happened tonight. She didn’t think she’d ever have him again.
Instead of thinking more about that, she pushed it away and stood. Her eyes felt really heavy and her limbs felt like they weight a hundred pounds each. “Ready Freddie?” she asked and held her hands at her sides so she didn’t try to help him up. She knew Elijah would want to do it himself. Unlike most men, he didn’t become a giant baby who wanted everyone to do everything for him. He did everything for himself as if to prove to everyone that he was just as strong as they were. And Vaeda obliged because she knew he was as strong as she was in the psychological sense and if letting him do everything by himself made him feel better, that was exactly what she was going to do. SHE'LL BE THINKING OF ME even when she's with you In all the messes he thought he was going to land in, he never thought this one would be one of them. He also didn’t know he would enjoy the mess he was in so much. Elijah didn’t focus too much on the fact she was taken at that moment. That he about fucked up their relationship because he decided he’d take her drinking. All these small little decisions. He couldn’t call it anything less than a disaster. If one actually pulled a part this, he was the bad guy. Perhaps he should have felt like the bad guy. The same cocky way he felt that way when he was strutting around as a ‘firetamer’. Perhaps he should have been hanging his head in shame, unsure where he was going to head next. Actually, that was probably the better option out of the two. He was doing neither of them. Well any less than usual. It was like nothing happened between them. Maybe it was better that way. Comforting each other as friends.
The woman was certainly stubborn. Elijah really didn’t expect anything less of her though. Strong. He preferred Vaeda like this, he thought. It was less damage on his heart. When she first came in a fragile bit of pieces, he hadn’t known what to do. How to help her. Much how others had gone to his door in need of help. Being a charity case house wasn’t so bad. But it did rip him a part a little bit. Still, whatever he could do to help. That’s what he always had liked since he was little. Helping people- hence the entire doctor thing. He supposed if that wasn’t going to work out, he could do stuff like this. With a crooked smile, he gave a simple shrug. ”I’ll mention your opinion at the next house rules meeting.” A small roll of his eyes. Still, the thought of her sleeping on the couch while he was snuggling in his bed seemed somehow wrong. Not only highly ungentleman of him, but clearly she was having a hard time. He just had a few cuts and bruises. Emotional sucked so much more. So much fucking more.
He tried to make it not show it in his face. It wasn’t too hard with her around. As hard it was to keep his emotions tight around her, it was also easy to grin instead. She was a tiny thing. Even relatively speaking. She wasn’t very large in both height and width. He was sure she would be able to fit into any space ever, but sleeping with someone next to you always made the different. Elijah remembered his first couple of hookups, he couldn’t sleep very well. With someone next to him, it was always different. After some while, it got easier and some were easier to sleep next to than others. He couldn’t explain it. Sleep and rest was another one of those mystery subjects he didn’t touch with very much. She seemed to giggle at him when he mentioned he simply wiggled. Elijah made a small face at her, ”That’s what it’s been described as!” Shrugging only lightly as not to lift his shoulders too high off. Strength didn’t feel like it was in his power at that moment. Even past the human thing, his entire body felt like it was thrown around like a rag. In a sense, it had been. Now he was really starting to feel it.
Getting up, for example, had to be among the hardest things he ever did. Nodding at her words, he felt the tiredness and the bed really did sound all that more comfortable. Walking very lightly over, making sure to stay next to the wall in case he needed it (and he hadn’t, out of pride, used it once) before crawling in over his covers. Sometimes it got pretty toasty in his room with the heater on. Always wanting it a little bit warmer since they kept his house pretty cool (firetamers not really liking hot weather you see). Being under the covers with her he felt was overstepping some boundaries still. He still had the temptation to roll over and snuggle. Maybe that’s what everyone meant by wiggling. Trying to make it not a big deal, as she clearly saw it that way, he lay his head on the pillow, glancing over at Vaeda before letting his eyes drop. It was amazing how quickly he passed out. Eventually, Oreo crawled over by his head and snuggled herself in his hair like it was another cat instead of Elijah.
The morning was rough. He felt the aching pain in his back and his ribs as soon as he took a deep breath. The morning chill was on him as he blinked his eyes open. One of those heavy sleeps without dreams. He sensed someone at his side. Oreo, who had shifted down to his neck like his own personal scarf. He blew a little in her face and she looked at him annoyed, rolling over so she wasn’t facing him. Elijah looked over, almost forgetting Vaeda had stayed the night. He had another one of those moments he would never repeat. To himself or anyone. Seeing her next to him in the morning. That feeling he got at the pit of his stomach. Knowing somewhere deep inside him, he wouldn’t mind doing this every morning, even if it meant this much aching. Such a bad thought. Elijah had to get it out of his head. He closed his eyes once again as he lay still, trying to figure out what was wrong with him. Not that anyone would be able to blame him. It was Vaeda. Who wouldn’t feel the same?
