no one talks about the war on my block all the time i need is never quite enough
It was on nights like this that Rue felt it safe to leave Leo to a babysitter, or rather, one of her most trusted friends around. After enduring an hour long lecture of how she should relax sometime and that her son would definitely be safe in her hands, Rue had left the house with a peaceful mind. Rimy was an excellent babysitter, and she knew Leo in and out. Though the brunette woman was still worried about the safety of those two, Rimy had taken aikido, and yes, she could kick butt if she had to. The other perk, which Rue was infinitely grateful for, was that the other human also knew about the existence of the supernatural world. Besides Sidda, she was also one of Rue's closest friends, though the former had yet to realize the existence of the mythical creatures around her.
She parked her car in front of her favourite bars in town and walked in contently, ready to spend the night with drinks and fun. Ordering herself a Scotch, Rue glanced around the bar while she waited. There were so many people around tonight. She knew that half the people in the bar were probably supernatural creatures, the bar was actually quite famous for that. Though it was such, Rue knew that there won't be any trouble. She heard that the owners of the bar were keen on maintaining the peace around, and at that thought, Rue's eyes flickered to the lovely redhead behind the bar. She sure was keeping a watchful eagle eye.
Allowing herself a soft smile, the former huntress texted her friend on how Leo was doing back home. The latter swiftly replied that the boy was now entertaining himself with an episode of Spongebob Squarepants, and it was then did Rue fully relax. She twirled the glass of alcohol in her hands, her grey eyes closing in content, taking in the sounds and hubbub of the pub. So lost in her thoughts and concentration did she not hear the soft grind of the stool next to her being pulled and the thump of someone sitting down on it.

WHEN ITS SUDDEN DEATH we fight back This place just dripped with supernaturals around. A good mixture of humans, but it was also a good bet that half of the things he saw were supernaturals. He tried not to let that bother him, but he was never able to be around them without shivers crawling all over his skin. He had hated the lot for as long as he could remember. Ever since he had found his own family dead when he was just a young boy. He was here on business, unfortunately. He wasn’t able to just bring a gun out and go out on the place. That would be completely out of the ordinary. Jackson was looking more for one specific little bad one within the crowd. There was a rumor around his department that someone was taking these vulnerable, beautiful women and sucking them dry. Although that wasn’t the term used in the police office, Jackson knew better. He knew what was going on. It was his duty to place an end to it. Vampires had to be the worse of all.
Jackson was almost positive that he had the right one. The way he swayed a charming smile on his lips. The way he scanned the area in the way that Jack himself was doing. After years of experience, Jackson usually just had this feeling with supernaturals or not. He was watching and waiting very carefully to make sure the next victim wasn’t going to happen tonight. Hopefully ever if he did his job correctly, but it would be a miracle if he could end it tonight. What most new hunters didn’t understand was sometimes a hunt didn’t last for a day. Didn’t find the bad guy, go after, and kill him over and done with. No, there were usually several fights. Some leaving him with bruises and scars and sometimes he was the one leaving the bruises and scars. He knew better than to expect full results but the end of this fun little meeting they were about to have. The scum hadn’t made his move on anyone yet. Probably couldn’t find the right one. He preferred the beauties. Usually coming alone. It was probably easier that way. It disgusted him, but he learned to expect it.
The man spotted someone. The area was crowded enough for Jackson not able to see the woman right away, but he saw the look in his eye. A small smirk had crossed his lips as he waited a little bit longer before moving from his spot in the center of the room. Jackson left his own at the wall, feeling the gun on his belt heavier as he walked. Hopefully, he wasn’t going to have to use it in the middle of this place. It wouldn’t stop him from doing so in dire situations, but he liked to keep it quiet for the innocent souls that didn’t know better. Who knew nothing but bliss. As the woman came in view, Jackson recognized her. Rue. Little Rue. Another fellow hunter. Or uh- ex hunter. No one really fully got out of the job in his own experience, but she might have been the exception. A baby did that to someone. He didn’t really know the entire story to that. He just assumed it wasn’t supernatural by the way she talked. It made him think of Annette, and a painful memory passed him by. He was close to that female hunter, but the getting knocked up by a shapeshifter had really put a very hard mark in the relationship.
That wasn’t important now. The man was moving in on her. While he knew she wasn’t stupid enough to fall so easily for the type of trick, Jackson refused to put her in a situation where she had to. As soon as the vampire sat down, grinning at her, Jackson put a hand on his shoulder. The man turned with a sudden alertness in his eyes. He looked at the hunter. His face was well known around this town and Jackson wouldn’t be surprised if he were recognized. ”You’re sitting in my seat.” He told the man with a deep protective threatening voice. The vampire didn’t even hesitate but to slink back to the shadows, even having the nerve of leaving the place. Jack wouldn’t find him again tonight. The vampire would seek out another hiding spot and skip his next meal for the night. Watching him leave, he took the spot next to Rue, ”Sorry had to bump in like that. You should know he wasn’t worth the time.” A new look appeared. Before, he had been the ruthless Jackson Duval, hard and unforgiving. Now he was more human looking. Even a spark of friendliness on his features.

no one talks about the war on my block all the time i need is never quite enough
Although Rue hadn't exactly beaten up anybody for a long time, she did keep up with the hunters whenever it came to updates about the supernatural. All it took was a phone call from one of her old hunter friends, and she was done. The brunette wasn't able to help much when it came to combat (she was rusty as hell, you didn't beat creatures up in front of your kid or run the risk of leaving him all alone when you when out to hunt for something) but she did have plenty of valuable information for a civilian. She was supposed to be all ordinary and human, doing all the things that humans did to live a normal life, but Rue couldn't help herself. She really did miss hunting, and was forced to watch from the sidelines and also compensate by gathering as much as information she could around her and informing her hunter friends.
Rue blinked at the sudden presence felt beside her, and glanced to her right, grey eyes narrowing. A leering face looked back at her, and the brunette frowned, quite ready to give him a piece of her mind. He looked like a git, and while she usually wouldn't say no to the occasional one night stand, she didn't sleep with gits. No, Rue had more taste than that, and unless this bloke somehow had a magical charm she could fall for, she wasn't going anywhere. The former huntress hadn't slept with anyone in a while too though, Leo had been keeping her busy, and sex was usually the last thing on her mind at this point in time.
She didn't even need to say anything before a familiar face appeared behind the man. A grin broke across her face at the sight of him then dealing with the bloke, and resisted the urge to laugh out loud at the new fear on his face. Knowing full well how much it would ruin the situation, Rue kept her mouth shut and watched as the man fled the scene. She turned to look at Jackson, still grinning, realizing that she had not seen his face in ages, He was one of the most feared hunters around the city, almost legendary in name. She had hunted with him a few times before she dropped hunting, and man, he had been ruthless.
"Don't worry about it," laughed Rue, raising her glass at him and taking a sip. "You scared that chump off good, although I could have taken him on my own." Taken him on her own did mean a few nasty rounds of sassing and even a punch if he so much as tried anything physical on her, but she was thankful that Jackson had decided to take matters into his own hands. Rue didn't want to cause too big a scene, and that guy looked as though he wouldn't have allowed himself to be let down so easily had Jackson not been around. Catching the bartender's eye, she motioned for him to pour a shot for her friend. "How have you been?" asked the brunette, smiling at him. "Y'know, besides scaring hopeful men off their seats and all."

WHEN ITS SUDDEN DEATH we fight back There was little satisfaction in being a hunter, but one always had to hope the few little perks were worth the entire trouble and life threatening situation. Many did it for revenge. Many did it so that there wasn’t another supernatural who would be able to harm. Some did it because it was in the family- like his own daughter. One of the perks Jackson had that kept him going after all of this madness was simply helping people. Not creatures, but actual humans who had a place in this world. Both fellow hunters and humans who remained to be absolutely oblivious. Sometimes he wished he could stay that way. Unknown of what the world was filled with. Would he be happier? Jackson had been doing this for so long, he felt like he would never be able to answer that. The ridiculous questions he heard such as “what if this didn’t happen, would this have happened” drove him crazy. Now how was he supposed to know what his mindset would be? Events changed people. Everyday. Take Rue for example. He was sure she was asked all the time the big what if questions.
Rue recognized him as quickly as he had recognized him. What she said was true, and he didn’t have to doubt it for a moment. Still, it was probably just better off not to be placed in that position in the first place. If he could avoid those situations all the time, he would. He was sure a young woman like her received that kind of attention all the time (supernatural creatures wanting a fun play toy or not). ”I bet you would. Probably saved him a rough night,” Or not. Jackson should pull out his phone and alert other hunters in the area the man was on the loose and by himself, it seemed. Perfect little timing. If the man wasn’t already trying to run for the woods. ”Besides, wouldn’t it be easier not to have to deal with it at all?” He asked. Jack could be completely wrong about all of it. Maybe she was dying for something to punch and hunt. He wasn’t sure if there was a way a hunter could miss that, but he supposed during his worse days, all he wanted to do was hunt to blow off some steam while getting some work down. Cason Ellery, until recently for some reason or another, would just go out hunting to block things out. He used to be that way when he was just a lad. Thank God he looked at it differently. Think of all the places and situations he would have placed himself in.
Very kindly, she got him a drink. He hoped she wasn’t planning on paying for that for him. Jack would just not allow it. With a sideways smile, he shrugged lightly, ”It’s been the same- rough.” A chuckle at his own not humorous statement, taking the shot of whiskey with a solid face, as any man like him would have done. ”There’s some new detective who is sticking his nose into business he shouldn’t,” It was easy to tell someone who knew what was going on behind the scenes. For anyone listening, they wouldn’t have any idea. ”Kins is... continuing to grow up too fast, adult or not,” Yes, sure, technically she was a full fledged adult and such, but he still considered her a girl growing up. Letting some stranger who lost his memory live with her while he searched for employment. Don’t get him started on that. ”And what about you? How have you been?” He asked with a polite smile, stopping himself. The man could probably rattle on all night in a drunken stupor about all the issues he had to deal with. One of the joys of being a hunter, right? She would understand. That’s why it was always nice to talk to her. She understood. It did give him a knot looking at her, knowing that in a few years from now- Annette would be in the same place.
