It just wasn't something he'd ever really enjoyed that much and honestly he didn't like the feeling of not being in control of all of his senses and emotions per say. He had too much resting on his shoulders to go out and get wasted and possibly do or say something that could hurt not only his reputation but his family's as well. Besides he'd always been the responsible one who never did things like that or at least that's the category he'd been placed into it seemed. He hadn't exactly minded that fact through the years and had become good at letting any comments from his cousins (namely Damon) roll off his back.
Even back when the stress of the engagement and subsequent wedding planning had been going on he hadn't really gone out and taken the edge off with an evening at the bar. The best way he'd found to relax and unwind was to go and practice his fire taming skills, letting the irritation out in that manner rather than drowning it with alcohol. Unfortunately the best place to do that was at his parents' mansion and just now that was not a welcome place. His return to Manuka had not been met with the happiest of reactions from his father especially after Aiden basically gave him the third degree over what had happened with the Sabrer family.
It would have been quite safe to say that neither Conley nor Aiden were never going to see eye to eye and at this point whether they'd even ever be on speaking terms again was questionable. Aiden was tired of simply standing to the side and watching his father put their family in harm's way for the sake of power or money. Hadn't they lost enough already? Naturally the leader of the Ellis clan had not taken the questioning of his decisions well at all and seeing as he still angry at his eldest son for calling off the wedding to the daughter of one of their most important allies his reaction was even stronger than normal. Aiden hadn't planned on staying in the mansion anyways but his apartment, though nice, didn't have any area specifically meant for any kind of fire taming to go on.
So here he was, sitting on a bar stool at Michael's Castle, one of the best bars in the city he personally thought even if it wasn't as well known. He'd come here a few other times and had never had a bad experience and it was much calmer than most of the other bars. So pretty much you could come and get drunk without worrying about someone coming over and ruining your buzz or your brooding. He was doing more of the latter as he hadn't quite gotten the former going all that intensely yet. The whiskey in the glass in front of him was only half gone but he didn't plan on letting it sit there for too much longer. He'd only been back for a week and so far it had been nothing but yelling and tension for the most part and a part of him almost wished he'd stayed in London.
He knew he couldn't have though, at least not without having felt horribly guilty. The memorial service had been this morning for the Sabrer family and even though there had been less than cordial feelings between himself and Logan, he had honestly liked the majority of her family. Elijah was the only one who had survived, not having been there at the time of the fire and Aiden had wanted to make sure he knew he was welcome among the Ellis clan. It felt like the least that they could do after all. The guy probably didn't like him much but maybe with time that fact could change. For now though it felt a bit like the world was against him completely which is why he was currently throwing back the rest of the amber liquid in his glass without really caring how it might or might not effect him at this point.

Out of the two other places she lived, this had been by far her favorite. No doubt. It could have been that her other city was terrible in the sense of crime and drugs all over the place, but her heart had never left here. This was home. Where her friends were when she grew up, having to move right before she graduated. Though she couldn’t really blame her mother. Couldn’t afford to live in such a place. It wasn’t as if Manuka was terribly expensive, but the bad neighborhood in the other city was far cheaper. The entire time, she told her mother that she stood out of all that. More or less true in the guilty eyes of Charlotte Alexis. She stayed out of the drugs. No gangs for her. Just a little bit worse. Maybe it would have been easier to get past shooting up a couple of things rather than a knife in someone else.
It was one of the reasons she also came here. To re-experience the life she had before and escape. Clearly, something as different about this place that forced her to keep to a better side. She relied on that fact alone to carry her through the next couple of years. Though it so happens, as soon as she came here, war broke out. She knew of the Sabrers and a couple of members because they were a part of the whole supernatural family system. How an entire family unit, especially one as powerful as the Sabrers, just disappear off of the face of the Earth? If any of them were coming back as some type of supernatural creature, there was going to be hell to pay for whoever did it. In fact, she wouldn’t be surprised if they were now a family of ghosts, holding onto revenge. If that were the case, the people responsible had a hell lot more coming.
Which was one of the reasons she thought she could go visit the family she grew up with. It was even more ironic now since Lexi was a full firetamer. Who knew it would turn out that way? The fire was a lot easier to deal with as well considering she had been watching firetamers most of her life. Watch how they could easily control the flames with a few flips of their fingers. Make fire out of nothing. Still, she also didn’t know if she should just walk into the house and see what was going on now seeing the family was under some major stress. The war brinking out and the Ellis family being attacked. Oh, those deaths broke her heart. She knew them. Seeing little Riley running around as a baby. She felt honestly like an old nanny rattling on about her childhood and growing up with them, but it was true. It was one of the aspects that made it more like home. Like she had a ton of siblings and cousins. Lexi honestly wanted to know what they were all doing. She tried to visit them during the Sabrer funeral, but she didn’t know if that would be a great time to catch up. How annoyingly important timing was!
She spent most of her time catching up with others still in the city. Bumping into some of the other buildings she had seen. Some refurnished and some just torn down and built all over again. The coffeeshop she remembered now being the Steaming Beans. Some of the resturants she remembered had turned into night clubs and some night clubs had turned into resturants. Little establishments were now huge. There were only a couple of other places that didn’t change. This was one of them, and it was one of the reasons she was going. Going out and drinking by herself wasn’t exactly a habit of hers, but she did like to go out. People watch. Lexi could hardly stand to be alone anymore. She had to be surrounded by people. As if she would lash out and other people would prevent her from thinking of anything. Strange how the mind worked. Her head was more calm and focused when surrounded in a large crowd. As if she could get lost in it.
Lexi honestly wasn’t expecting to see anyone she knew there. What were the odds? The city had grown so large. Walking in, she actually hadn’t seen Aiden at first. She sat down a couple rows that were blocked by some other guys before she ordered a White Russian. Strong, yes. The only thing stronger would probably be a Black Russian. Essentially the same drink but white had milk in it. Hence the name. Probably two of these would do. Anymore would probably be giving her nightmares. However, on a day of a funeral, it almost felt as if she had to order something strong. Getting the cold icy drink in her hands, she silently toasted, To the Sabrers. Sipping it lightly like a lady. It was when one of the guys left she noticed him. It took her a few moments, as the man had… well grown up. The last memory was the curly hair blue eyes staring at her while she told him she had to leave. A small crush at that time. A soft smile appeared on her lips thinking about it. Now Aiden had a harder face. Most of the boy quality leaving it. She also eyed the half empty drink and his stressed face.
Moving over the couple of seats, she gave him a polite friendly smile, ”Huh, I never pictured you to be the drinking type.” It had been… well years between, but she always remembered the good son reputation, ”But then again, it’s been a long time.” Hoping with that type of entrance, he might be able to recognize her. She had been dealing with certain “people skills” for a while now. She knew how to handle situations like these. Where she might be remembered and might not. Lexi, on her end though, would never been able to forget Aiden Ellis even if it had been fifty years.

First his cousin Roman, then his Aunt Amery followed by Riley and now all but one member of the Sabrer family. If that wasn't enough to make a person turn to alcohol the almost mind numbing guilt he was feeling certainly would do it. From the moment he'd returned home he'd felt it, first from his father and mother, then when he'd seen Elijah at the memorial and mostly from himself. If hadn't had called off the wedding, married Logan and done what had been expected of him instead of following his own path for once maybe she wouldn't be dead now. Maybe they could have found out sooner that someone was after them and taken care of it before it got to this point.
That train of thought was running in circles around and around his head and all he really wanted to do now was simply forget any of it was there. No guilt, no sadness, no anger just numbness would be nice. Despite not being much of a drinker he did have a few bottles of wine and vodka at his apartment for certain occasions so he could have quite easily gone there and accomplished his mission to drink away the feelings of the moment. The thought of going back to an empty house wasn't a pleasant one though and seeing as he wasn't exactly on good terms with his parents going to their house wasn't exactly desirable either. So here he was instead and it really wasn't going too bad so far. People kept mostly to their own business and the bar tender wasn't nosy or pushy.
The firetamer wasn't foolish enough to get so drunk here that he woudn't be able to make it back to his apartment but at least this could get things started and in a less lonely atmosphere. He wasn't necessarily someone that constantly needed to be around people but there were some moments when you just didn't feel like being alone. Even if it was with strangers. People just going about their daily lives, most of them probably not even holding a single thought that there was anything other than fellow human beings in their midst. Aiden had already spotted a witch and a faerie mingling among them though and then of course there was his presence as well. Sometimes he wondered what it was like being completely unaware that there was a whole other world out there beyond their own. Less stressful perhaps? Less complicated definitely.
Trading it all in for a day or so just to experience it would have been interesting and at this moment it was rather tempting to wish he could stay there in blissfull ignorance. They all had their share of sorrows and problems too though he supposed. Just in different forms perhaps. So for now alcohol would have to do and he was more than ok with that. Focused more on his own thoughts from that moment on he didn't notice the woman sitting a few stools down even after the two other patrons between them got up and left. It was the sound of her voice that brought his mind abruptly from whatever world it had wandered to, low and with a slightly husky quality to it that had him remembering a certain girl before he even looked over at her. An almost incredulous look crossed his face as a smile instantly pulled at his lips. "Lexi?" The nickname he'd always called her rolled easily off his tongue even though he hadn't said it in, oh my so many years it seemed.
Shaking his head slightly, he chuckled slightly. "Never dreamed I'd run into you in this city again in a million years," Swirling the ice cubes remaining in the otherwise empty cup he met those still familiar green eyes. "It's been what, ten years at least? How have you been?" She looked good. More than good actually. Amazing was closer to what was running through his mind.
