Our love was lost In the rubble are all the things That you've, you've been dreaming of Keep me in mind When you're ready I am here To take you every time --------------------------------------------
Trying to get the kids to school in the morning was always tiring, and a rush. Everything happened so fast, but by now in the Hendricksen household there was a routine, which made things simpler. Except when one of the kids got sick, and this time it was Mary, and she was complaining of queasiness. The girl was only five, and her twin seemed to be fine, so Lucas figured that her story was plausible. She made her stay home, calling the school to tell them that she won't be coming in, and Shannon took Elizabeth and Doug to school, Mary staying with him and little Charlie also. This would be his time for sleeping, he would put Charlie to bed and then get his well needed rest, as he had worked almost all night and was only running on caffeine. His father was passed out somewhere, and that only brought a sigh to his lips as he took some medicine to little Mary. She smiled and thanked him, but he could see that she was sick, her forehead clammy. Petting her shoulder gently, he covered her in a blanket, and let her sleep the queasiness off. He placed a bucket next to her bed just in case.
Picking up the toddler, Lucas took him downstairs to change his nappy. The kid was a good kid, he knew how to do it on a potty, but in the night time he still put a nappy on just in case, because Lucas barely had any time to wash clothes. Shaking his head a little bit, he placed the baby in the play area, and started on cleaning the house, if he wasn't going to sleep anyway. The house they had was big, but that was only because they had inherited from their grandmother, and so the only thing they needed to pay were bills. Like, electricity and heating and such. Licking his lips, he poured himself some cereal and milk, and a short while later he was going to check on Mary, when she came downstairs herself. He smiled at her. "Hey kiddo, how are you feeling?" He asked, moving to crouch before her and touch his hand to her forehead to feel for temperature. "Am okay." She mumbled and rubbed her eyes, and Lucas petted her hair and nodded. He let her go off and play, but he felt like the house was extra stuffy. He needed to go outside and well ... the kids could use some fresh air too.
Going to the room where Mary was watching TV, Lucas flopped down beside her, still keeping an eye on Charlie and grinned. "How would you feel about taking a little trip to the aquarium, huh? Some fresh air might make you feel better." He nodded, and watched as the small girls eyes lip up, and whatever money he was going to spend treating her would be worth it. She moved to hug him then and Lucas laughed. "Alright alright, go on up and get dressed and we'll go." He told her, and she nodded before running upstairs. He dressed Charlie in some warm clothes, getting the buggy from the small room in front of the house, and sat him in there, calling to Mary once he was done, who bounced down stairs and quickly took his hand. He had taught her never to let go while on the street, because he didn't want her to get lost in the crowd. She seemed to remember well, but she was five after all.
Walking there was a long journey, as she kept pulling them over to smell flowers and other things. Lucas couldn't deny that he was amused, almost all tiredness forgotten. Once there, Lucas bought them tickets and gave the little girl the map. "You pick where we go first." He told her, and she eyed the pictures of all the fish on the map, and then pointed to the sharks. Of course. Lucas grinned widely, laughing a little. But then she was running off, and he knew he couldn't run with the buggy. "Mary! Mary don't run off!" He told her loudly, but the girl didn't listen, and he seriously winced the moment that she collided with someone. His eyes widened and he walked as fast as he could to where Mary and the stranger were. "Fuck .. I mean crap ..." He caught himself, because he didn't like swearing in front of the kids. "I am so sorry, I told her not to run off." He gave the little girl a look who was looking down at her feet. "Mary, what do we say?" He looked at her pointedly, and heard her mumble a 'sorry'.
