Out of all the times in her life, she felt like she needed her friends the most right then. Not specially then, she supposed, but during that time frame. Harper hadn’t been too many super terrible things in her life. Most of the time, she didn’t want it to conflict with her school work. So she stayed pretty conservative. Sure, she had a one nighter. Sure, she drank under age at one point. However, this felt like the worse thing she had ever done in her life, and Harper had no idea what to do about it. Her pack was starting to know just because her pack was the closest thing to her. That didn’t count as people. Did she tell others? Others that could potentially have advice and help her out? Did she take it to her grave and hope to God there was never a moment in her life where she would have to explain. Wyatt deserved better. Even though she was in an arranged marriage with Harper, he deserved better.
Long story short- she had cheated. A seduction none the less. At least, that’s what Harper thought. In her little romantic mind, the man she had been with meant more than just a little hookup and done with it. He had meant more. They had so much in common and thought so similarly (though Harper was more of a geek, but she didn’t expect her man to be as much of a geek as she was), but alas. It turned out he just wanted a piece of her. Finding out had not only broke her heart, but her one promise when she found out that her mother cheated on her father. That Cameron- her dear and loving brother- was only her half-brother. Betrayal of the family. Something that the Ways hadn’t discovered. The only person to discover and know about it besides her mother was herself. That was just because of her being the ‘smart one’ in the family. No one else would have caught it. How could they? Ways were supposed to be the perfect family unit. That’s why she thought an arranged marriage while crushing the romantic side of her was most logical. It was for her family. Except now she just messed that all up didn’t she?
Lately, she had been desperately clinging to some of her really good friends. The ones that put her in a happy mood. Harper didn’t exactly need a distraction. That sounded like she was completely avoiding the problem. That was exactly what she wasn’t trying to do. Harper was a problem solver and needed to think it over. She just needed someone to give her a break. She knew very well that if she was stuck on a problem, staring at it over and over, it wasn’t going to do any good. The mind was too frustrated and jumbled together. So she went away and did something else, came back, and suddenly what took her fifteen minutes to try to figure out what it was saying was now clear as day. It had worked with school. Why not in life? Harper found that it was working a little more. It was just hard to think about it. So whenever she did try to tell herself to find a solution, she wanted to turn away. This was going to take a few more breaks than a simple math problem.
Who better than Casidhe? Although she didn’t’ call him that. She liked the name Casi. It seemed to fit him better. She didn’t know too much about him besides the fact he was an immortal, but it was that fact alone she didn’t ask. Most immortals had been through enough for about six regular lifetimes. Harper couldn’t imagine living forever. The thought was tempting as it was for every person, but man. There would be something about losing momentum when you literally had nothing to lose. All friends not living on with you. Making new ones and finding them die. Harper shivered. No, it wouldn’t be a part of the questions that she wanted to be asked if she were an immortal. So she held her tongue at her curiosities. She had called him to meet at this place for lunch. Harper felt like she hadn’t really talked to him in forever. It had been far too long for the werewolf to feel comfortable. He was wonderful. She also heard he had also been going through a little rough time in the love department. No reason for that boy to, but she supposed she wasn’t in anyone’s shoes but her own. However, while that rumor had been heard, none of the specifics had. It was amazing how fast a small bit of a rumor could spread through a large city. All the gossip girl’s fault, she supposed. Yes. Blame her. Another thing Harper had to worry about.
