It had been a relatively slow day at work, but it wasn’t like Parker could exactly complain about it. When business was slow, it meant she could work on homework and she could just sleep when she got home. Besides, it wasn’t like Parker really had anything else to do. She didn’t make friends at high school, at least not any friends that she’d hang out with after school. It was all her fault, not because people didn’t want to be friends with her. Yeah, she talked to people in classes and at lunch and stuff, but she tried to avoid anything outside of that. Who knew when Parker would have to move again? She was tired of leaving people behind so it was better to completely avoid those ties.
She was extremely grateful to Arthur for giving her this job. Parker hadn’t really been looking for one, but when she had wandered into his bookstore, she had seen he was hiring for the café in the bookstore and she applied on a whim. Either Arthur hadn’t had very many other applicants or she had beaten them, but she got the job. At first, she hadn’t been overly excited about it. But then she realized that it gave her something to do when she wasn’t at school and it got her out of the house, both of which were good for her. And it gave her a good excuse on the off chance someone tried to hang out with her.
Besides, Arthur was a good boss. That was something Parker had figured out quickly. He didn’t try to pry into her business or ask a billion questions about her life. Parker had had bosses like that before and she absolutely hated it. But it wasn’t like that with Arthur. As long as she extended him the same courtesy and respected his space, he’d do that for her. It was honestly the best situation that Parker could think of. She was lucky she had found this job, even if she was doing nothing but standing behind a counter and working on homework right now. Only a couple more hours and she could go home. Parker would call that a pretty easy night. Now all she needed was for no one to walk into the bookstore and suddenly crave coffee.

TAGGED: KELKELKEL WORDS: ENOUGH WEARING: THIS The last time Grace was here at the bookstore she had been looking for a book and bumped into another witch by the name of Claude. The interaction had been an odd one and she had yet to see the witch again. But Grace was bad at keeping tabs on people unless they called or kept in touch first. She didn’t see any reason to try to uphold a relationship if the other person wasn’t willing to do the same. And sure she would try to keep a friendship going every once in a while, but Grace had everything she needed. Her best friend Teddy and her other roommates Jette and Lewis were all great people and if she ever needed to hang out with someone she could always ask them. If not, she had her sisters to go to. And now she sort of had Easton, though their relationship was still in an awward phase. He had just had his life saved by her and her sister Corrinn, and after that she had realized that all of those feelings for him had never really gone away. The same went for him, too. But after so long of being apart and practically hating each other, it was hard to go back to how things were. She was glad that she had found the spell to save him though because they were even. Also she now had him back in her life.
She stood in one of the isles of the bookstore and looked at a row of fiction books. She really didn’t know what she wanted to read, but she had finished her other three books from last time and needed something else to keep her busy when she was home alone or at work and there were no customers. Grace picked up a few and read the backs of the covers and decided on those. She walked to another section and picked a third. This one was a John Green book. She had seen him on television the other night and his book seemed really good. She knew she would probably cry somewhere along the way, but it was worth it. She loved books that she got into enough that she cried or laughed out loud.
When she was satisfied with the books she selected, she walked up to the front counter, scanning other random books and magazines along the way. Since nothing popped out at her, she set the three books on the counter. Grace noticed the girl’s notes and wondered what class she was taking. But she didn’t ask. “Hi,” she said in an up-beat tone.

[style=width:400px; height:200px; background-image:url(http://i45.tinypic.com/34exhuf.jpg);] i've been up in the air, out of my head
There were very few times when Parker was running the bookshop by herself. It was like Arthur lived there, though that technically was true since she knew he lived above the bookstore itself. Still though, there were some days where girl would swear that Arthur lived for the bookstore and that he didn’t have anything outside of it. She couldn’t imagine being trapped her 24/7, thinking that if it was her, she’d be feel extremely claustrophobic and overwhelmed. Then again, this was coming from the girl who tried to find every excuse to get out of her house and stay out. But of course those were judgments she couldn’t really afford to have about her boss and it wasn’t something she was ever going to ask him about. That was their unspoken agreement, after all. Stay out of each other’s business besides what was necessary.
And in all honesty, it was good to see Arthur out of the shop. While it was a rarity, he seemed to have perfect timing when he did duck out because it was always during the off days. Parker might have to deal with two or three people the entire night and the rest of the time there was time to herself. When Parker heard the door open, she immediately migrated from the café area of the shop to the front counter. The first time Parker had been in charge of the shop, she realized people tended to stress out if there wasn’t someone right at the front counter when they expected to find a person there. She always preferred to stay behind the counter at the café, but it wasn’t really a big hassle to move when customers came into the store.
She brought her homework over with her though, not really sure if this customer would be someone who would take her time to find something or not. Sometimes people knew exactly what they wanted and where it was so they made a beeline right towards it and left as quickly as they came. Other people liked to meander, look at all their choices and such before coming to a final decision. It seemed like this girl was the second type of person, which was okay with Parker. It gave her more time to work on this particularly tough physics problem that she was having a lot of difficulty with.
Before Parker knew it though, the girl was coming up with her books and greeting her with a happy tone. It took all of Parker’s self control to not make a face. She had really been trying to work on it, seeing as how she had the option of being rude and being fired or at least making an attempt at being polite and keeping her job. The girl was trying to go with the second. “Did you find everything you were looking for?” Parker asked, trying to stick with the dialogue she had to go through.
