Devin had no home, but the ironic fact was that he had taken residence in the haunted house. Really, it hadn’t been haunted before Devin settled there, but it was still an amusing thought. This is the place he’d go to when he was done wandering, invisible to the masses since he wasn’t strong enough to be visible to people all the time. And there would be a few raised eyebrows if there was a flickering shape walking around, and the last thing Devin wanted was to freak people out in such a manner. He used the haunted house as a place to practice, to get stronger in the powers which he had. There were kids who came, wanting to see it. The house itself was dusty and filled with cobwebs, everything that would be on TV and more. But if a wrong breeze flew by they screamed, believing there to e ghosts there. Not many frequented the house, which was why it was so easy for Devin to take residence.
He moved through the house, voices of two guys and a girl down stairs, the girl was scared. He could hear the fear in her voice as she begged her boyfriend to turn back. It wasn’t like Devin wanted to hear it, but the ceilings and floors were thin, and the kids weren’t being quiet. Curiosity peaked in him; he wanted to know if those were maybe people he used to know. That brought the smallest smile to his lips, thinking that they were so lucky they didn’t know what was lurking out there. All the other things that weren’t human and teenage romance didn’t seem to matter as much. Grades didn’t seem to matter as much because there was so much danger, and people dying, and people with powers, and that all scared Devin to pieces.
Making his way downstairs, completely invisible to the human eye he thought back to the boy he’d met here. Aron had been his name, and the poor soul had been a ghost for sixty years but knew nothing of being able to be visible to humans. Didn’t know he could practice for it, and while Devin was showing him the ropes, he’d felt like he finally made a friend. But Aron had not been back, and Devin knew he shouldn’t have been disappointed by that but he couldn’t help being, the small amount of hope he’d had had flown out of the window. Nonetheless, he made his way to the stairs, but the next thing he knew the teenagers were climbing up the steps, and the steps started creaking wrong. They weren’t people Devin knew, but the girl, the girl stepped on a dodgy floorboard and she fell through. The guys screamed, and Devin’s own still heart gave a lurch as he made his way downstairs as fast as he could. His form was flickering, as he made himself solid way too fast, but he didn’t care. “Are you okay!?” He asked in a panic, green eyes looking for confirmation as the boys ran. What dicks.
