Today though he couldn't seem to focus on any one part of of the design staring back at him from the computer screen, starting on one section only to find himself looking out the large window that formed the front wall of the space. After a few repeats of that scenario had occurred he finally leaned back in his chair, away from the monitor, running a hand haphazardly through his hair. Glancing once again towards the window that seemed to have such a draw on him today, he got up from the leather desk chair and wandered over to it, hands tucked into the front pockets of his pants. Surveying the horizon he couldn't help but admit it was really a beautiful city, Manuka. This part of it especially for him at least.
Though some people likely didn't care for so many buildings stretching one right after the other Marcus took great pride in them, mainly due to the fact that he'd had a hand in helping create a good many of them in some way or another. Either with the basic design or a specific portion his mark was there. Not that most people knew that of course. A lot of the buildings had been around much longer than he looked to be age wise. Today though his mind wasn't really on the buildings or even the city itself but rather a certain individual somewhere within it. Eleyna Pearce had not left his mind for more than a few minutes since the winter ball it seemed. And after almost two-thousand years of thinking she was dead could one really blame him?
In the space of one split second his entire world had been turned on it's head and suddenly everything else around him seemed so much less important. All he could do was think about her, remembering all those years ago when they had first met, how careful they had been to keep their relationship secret and the last time he'd seen her before heading to what had become his last battle as a gladiator of Rome. Until Eleyna, Marcus hadn't known what it meant to love someone with every single fiber of your being. To never feel completely whole without them there. One would think that nearly two millennium would temper and eventually erase those feelings but for him they were still there just as strongly as ever. One look at her face and that was all it took. The question now though was if she felt the same.
That was really the driving force behind his sudden lack of concentration and he knew there would be no getting around it. Staying cooped up here in his office suddenly seemed like torture to the vampire. Turning away from the window he headed decisively towards his desk and grabbing a sketchpad and a small case of various sized pencils. Shutting and locking his office door behind him he took the stairs down to the bottom floor of the building, jacket draped over his arm and headed out the front entrance. He'd driven to work today instead of walking as he tended to do normally which was fortunate seeing as the place he had in mind was a slight jaunt across town and he didn't care to fight the crowded streets just then. Because of that he was soon pulling into the parking area of Wailman's Park, a pretty area with lush green grass, picnic tables and both shade and sun to be had in plenty.
Getting out of his car Marcus walked a short ways down the path that wound through the grass before stopping at an empty picnic table. Situated beneath a lovely old oak tree it had enough shade to keep one cool without blocking the sunlight too much. Settling down in a casual position he flipped open the sketchbook he'd brought with him and selected one of the pencils in the case, scanning the area with a slow gaze. Stepping away from all of the buildings and noise of the city was what he needed today and perhaps find different inspiration in the forms of the trees and landscapes the park had to offer. That was where most of his design ideas started after all, in nature.
