backseat serenade dizzy hurricane,
It was over. He felt like he was in so much pain. Toby needed someone. This was the hardest part about being the guy that was only mostly friendly with people. He was the guy that people looked for when they wanted a good time. But when it was the other way around, they didn’t want much to do with it. Plus, Toby was supposed to be the strong one. Ever since he found out he could really contribute to the family by marriage, he had been determined to be the perfect husband. Husbands were strong and didn’t carry any baggage. They let their wives cry on their shoulder without judgment while afterwards putting on their favorite show as you got them some ice cream. Tell her she was beautiful everyday she woke up. Out of the four other engagements he had, Daisy had been the one who he thought he would do that with the most. The best. He felt like he had liked her like no one else. Love? Had it been? He was convinced.
But it was over. His parents had a full blow-out with hers. Daisy was a rebel and he was sure that she would go and see him, but Toby wasn’t a rebel. He would feel bad to whoever he got engaged to next that he was going behind her back. Love or not, he had an obligation to fill. That probably just made it hurt worse. That what was keeping them really a part was him. His values. Though he would love nothing more than to toss them over his shoulder and continue, he couldn’t. That wasn’t him. He just knew the entire time he would be fretting over everything. So it was officially over. There was no more of her sweet face smiling up at him. Not having her in his arms was going to kill him. An experience like this hadn’t happened to him before, but he heard the rumors about what it felt like. Every single rumor was true. Toby wanted it to go away, but the poor boy didn’t have the slightest clue to get rid of it. A distraction and someone to talk to seemed like the best option.
Which was why Harlyn Hope was now the contact he was searching for in his phone. He didn’t know what it was about that sweet gal that he enjoyed. It was probably her humor and her overall good heartness. She kind of reminded him of those sweet coffee girls on TV. Yeah, those were great. He hadn’t expected them to click as well as they did. At first, she was just someone to talk to who seemed to care about what he had to say- a rarity in itself. Then she ended up being… well great on the other side of things. Considering it was hard to find a window between Toby’s engagements, he did say he tried for it when he could. Except, that made him sound like a pig, and he didn’t mean it like that either. He meant he was a guy, and she was a wonderful beautiful woman, so it just happened to work out like that. Toby needed her now more than ever. Of all the rumors he heard, he also heard of the rumors that worked to ease it up a little bit. This was one he was going to try out.
Once he got her answer that she was free, he drove to her house. Honestly, very dangerously, he didn’t remember most of the drive. He just kept his hands on the wheel, gripping it like it was the last thing he’d do. The top was down and his green eyes focused forward, uncertain how to really react. How far was acceptable for what he was going through? Toby was so clueless. He hated the feeling, and the feeling came to him often. It was the same feeling he got when he raised his hand and answered the question to where everyone busted up. They all thought he was kidding. Toby really thought it was the answer. Shaking his head, he realized how much he really actually needed Harlyn. Even if she wasn’t… in any mood, he could talk, right? Judgment was the last thing he was expecting from her, and perhaps that was the best. He parked the car and hobbled up the steps, putting both hands in his pockets and looking similar to a large beaten dog as he knocked on the door. He was already looking down at the ground, waiting for the light from the house to force him to look at her.
