She liked to constantly be doing something productive or otherwise she felt like she was being lazy and useless. Of course, neither of those were acceptable to the girl who felt like she could never stop working. Marnie’s motto was that the only way to get anything that you wanted in this world was through hard work and it was fair to say that the girl had set out to accomplish a lot in a little bit of time. She certainly had big shoes to fill after all, considering the fact that her dad worked as an emergency room doctor and that her mom was a well-known psychiatrist. Anything less than Marnie’s best wouldn’t be acceptable to them.
That was why even though Marnie was technically on summer break and off work for the day, she was still sitting at the coffee shop with a stack of papers and a rather large book in front of her along with a to go cup of coffee. Just because she didn’t have anything planned for today, it didn’t mean that she would do nothing. Time off meant Marnie could read up on old court cases, like she was currently doing. It might’ve sounded like a waste of time, but Marnie found it useful. Reading old court cases gave her an idea of what she could expect in the actual courtroom. Sometimes weird situations came up and you had no idea how to deal with them. Marnie felt that she might be a bit better prepared if she saw the ways other lawyers dealt with things.
Not only that, but the young firetamer was trying to work on her concentration. You’d think that someone who was so driven and focused would be able to drown out distractions, but she couldn’t. Marnie was used to having everything quiet, seeing as how she typically stuck to libraries when trying to study. Not to mention, Marnie’s entire life was really on the quieter side. She lived alone (unless you counted her cat) and didn’t have much of a social life outside of interacting with people at work and school. So far, Marnie was finding this harder than she thought she would. She kept rereading sentences and found herself listening in on other people’s conversations even when she tried to keep out of it. All of this was starting to frustrate Marnie and it was evident in the way she kept running her hand through her hair. The girl didn’t like to fail, especially at something so little.
