theres a thunder in our hearts baby so much hate for the ones we love TAG: SEAJAY! OUTFIT: HERE! ONE LAST THING: SUPER SHORT.... She had called Joey yesterday and the two had decided they would go out to the aquarium. Sam had finally gotten through to her and gotten her to start drawing again. Freya hadn’t thought she’d ever actually start drawing again. She should have realized how much Sam was able to persuade her of since when they were kids he had gotten her to do a million different things she thought she was too scared to do. He brought out the more courageous side of her and if she was honest with herself, she knew that taking up drawing was something courageous. It might not seem so important to some people, but art had kept her sane when she was a kid. When her parents would fight, keeping her awake at all hours of the night and she was unable to sneak out to Sam’s house, she turned to drawing or painting. In fact it reminded her so much of her childhood that she stopped altogether. It just reminded her of her parents too much and she couldn’t do it without getting sad. But Sam had gotten her to put pencil on paper again last week and she no longer felt that sadness. Sam was a really big part of that though. Since seeing him again she didn’t feel any amount of grief at all. She felt happier overall and got up in the mornings more excited than the day before. It was even better because she was blessed with waking up next to Sam who usually had his arms wrapped around her. Freya felt safer now and more at home than she had in ten years. She never wanted this to end.
She wanted to share the revelation with her friend Joey, who had also encouraged her to draw again. Joey was a graphic novelist who did really excellent work and Freya admired her so much for it. They had first met in the amusement park where she had first seen her drawings and had gotten her first comic book, which Freya really enjoyed. Since then she’s been an avid follower and Joey was one of the first people she told when she finished her first piece, which was of Sam’s scarred hands. Freya wanted to sketch more than just people and she thought the aquarium would be the perfect place to start. She’d probably go to the zoo some time soon and work on elephants and giraffes and koalas, too, but she had always loved the water.
The two were expected to meet in the front of the building in five minutes. She had gotten here a little early because she wanted to get a good parking space and also because she was pretty much early to anything she went to. Being late always made her antsy and nervous. So she folded her hands in her lap and sat on a bench outside the front doors as she waited for Joey.

Her friendship with Freya had been... well, a rocky start. Joey knew she wasn't good at making friends; socialization in the 'normal' ways was something she'd struggled with basically forever, and when she'd met the really pretty brunette at the amusement park, she had been something of an awkward turtle. No, really. Joey could fondly recall that first meeting and remembered wishing, just for a moment, that she had a shell that she could hide within, just so she wouldn't have to face the world that was probably doing its best not to laugh at her abysmal attempts at something as simple as a friendly introduction. Luckily for her, Freya really wasn't the judgmental type. She was cool about everything, really – and she was shy, too, which made Joey feel like she talked way too much, and all of the time, but the redhead was a rambler. It happens. The call to invite her out to spend the day together had been out of the blue, but since it was summer vacation and she didn't have enough money to spend long, drawn out periods of time back in Boston with her family, Joey's plans were pretty clear. Of course, she had done the responsible thing and double-checked just to make sure she didn't have any appointments for her side business fixing computers and other basic electronics, and since her schedule was clear, she had agreed. The aquarium was one of her favorite places to go to draw or work on her graphic novel, actually. Something about the serene nature of fish swimming around in giant tanks of water, in slightly dimmer light, really did wonders for her creativity. Last time Joey went to the aquarium, she had been in the process of creating a new enemy for Bravo 18 that was a sort of fish monster – half robot, half aquatic creature from the deep that she'd later named Crozark. That day had also given her a chance to catch up with her brother, briefly, and the two of them had spent a fantastic weekend together before he had to go back to Boston and the rest of her family. Ryan was looking at colleges, and while Joey did hope he'd pick one a little closer to her, she didn't ever want to limit him. Her siblings had all basically shoved her out the front door and tried to encourage her to chase after her dreams, and Ryan was just so smart and talented that it would break her heart to see him held back for any reason. But, short as it had been, the visit had been exactly what she'd needed. Her bus stopped right in front of the aquarium, and Joey grabbed her bag of supplies and scampered down the steps, thanking the driver as she left. As she started walking toward the large building, she saw Freya sitting on one of the benches, and a silly grin covered her pale, freckled face. Really, it was an awesome feeling to have friends at all, and even better to have ones that genuinely wanted her company. ”Freya!” Joey called out, adjusting the large strap of the bag on her slim shoulder and giving a little wave. ”Lookit you, all early and stuff. Are they even open yet?” Joey wasn't very good at details sometimes, since she lived with her head in the clouds, but Freya seemed to be punctual enough, and Joey was good about keeping with her meeting times and showing up when she was supposed to. ”Thanks for inviting me along, by the way. I'm so excited that you're drawing again. Feels good, huh?” She was still a little awkward, but not like she had been that first time because hey... Freya actually liked her, and that made Joey feel awesome. OUTFIT: Here!

theres a thunder in our hearts baby so much hate for the ones we love TAG: SEAJAY! OUTFIT: HERE! ONE LAST THING: THIS IS SHITTY UGH. A lot of the time before she had Sam, Freya was alone or at work with the only other people in the entire city she was comfortable talking to for long periods of time. But now she had her favorite person in the world back and he had gotten her started back up on art, which was something she never thought she’d do again. Freya also now had another friend, Joey. In total she could count how many friends she had on one hand, but at least she filled it completely. She didn’t count Sam’s friends as her own though. Cason kind of scared her. He just looked so intimidating and even though he laughed a lot with Sam and was really nice to her, Freya always found herself clutching onto Sam just in case. She sometimes felt stupid, but she couldn’t help it.
She wished she were more outgoing because then she could meet new people and not be such a loner. Really, she wished she was more like Joey. The girl had instantly started talking to Freya about her work and made her interested enough to want to get her comics. She had been quite quiet during the first half of their conversation before finally warming up. But then it was a matter of keeping in touch with her, which Freya found more difficult than she thought possible. She was so used to being on her own that she constantly forgot to call or text people. But now that she was drawing again and she wanted to get multiple opinions on her work, she’d be able to call Joey about it. Freya was sure that she’d give her honest opinion because telling an artist nothing bad could lead to very ugly stuff and a big ego. Plus she seemed like an honest person and Freya could see her being polite about something that didn’t flow well or fit with a drawing or painting. She seemed like the kind of person that would say something good about something that looked like a train wreck on a page.
Her head shot up when she heard her name being called by that familiar voice. A smile instantly spread across her face and she stood up and waved. Freya nodded at her question and replied softly (as usual) “They opened up a few minutes ago.” She clutched onto the strap of her bright red bag and started walking towards the ticket booth. “Thanks. I’m glad, too.” Freya took out her wallet and paid for her ticket. “Where should we go first?” she pondered. She always loved seeing the sharks and manatees most of all, but she’d love to see it all if she could.

For the longest time, Joey had been convinced that she'd never meet someone more introverted and shy than herself. Freya, however, took the cake because even though she was charming in her own way, and Joey really liked hanging around her, the girl was painfully shy. It was kind of an odd friendship, although they had many things to bond over, because Joey was actually taking the reins and helping to pull someone else out of their shell, when usually it was the other way around. All of the redhead's friends, and most of her siblings were way more outgoing than she was, so they usually tried to make her less awkward, helped introduce her to other people, calmed her down when she got to be too anxious, that kind of thing. That was probably why she and Freya just worked as friends – it was a give and take, and neither one of them felt pressured to be anything more than they actually were. Joey could make her nerdy references that Freya didn't get most of the time, but laughed at anyway, and Joey wouldn't force her to tell anything more than she was comfortable with, or talk more than she had the words to say.
Of course, it had taken Joey a minute to get over how beautiful the brunette was, but she blamed that on the fact that she was no longer single and ready to mingle. Even at her most awkward, Joey had managed to snag herself a girlfriend, and one that was kind of a celebrity by Manuka standards given that she was the lead singer of a very popular local band that was starting to pick up speed in the mainstream world. She'd have to tell Freya about that later, and maybe get her to talk more about that Sam guy that she mentioned on occasion. But first, the aquarium was waiting for them, and her friend was there early. ”Guess that's what I get for taking the bus – smelly people that stare at me and no sense of time.” Joey chuckled quietly, then paid for her ticket as the two women made their way inside. Freya asked where they should go first, and Joey had a few ideas, but she mainly wanted Freya to pick. Voice an opinion, that kind of thing.
”I've been here recently. Drew up a sweet robot/fish monster, I'll have to show you the sketches. I named him Crozark, kind of weird, huh?” Joey ran a hand through her hair and shifted her weight on her heels. ”So, since I have no preference, you should pick. What do you want to see first, Miss Freya?” With a half smirk, Joey was happy to wait for the brunette to decide, and maybe that would get her talking, get them off to a good start on their day together. Freya was the kind of girl that always seemed so deep in thought, and Joey was trying to find the right moment to ask her about what was brewing in that brain of hers, but not for a minute – it was better to let them get settled first, find a natural rhythm to their conversation instead of dropping things all on Freya's head at once like an uncaring jerkface. Joey wasn't a jerkface, no way. She was a good friend, or at least she hoped she was, because that was really all she wanted to be. Freya deserved to have good friends, because it sucked feeling like you were completely alone in the world.
