Arthur didn’t spend all of his time in his bookstore. It was harder because that is not only where he worked, but where he lived, but despite what others thought, Arthur did like to go out and walk around for a while. Even though his past memories hadn’t been all that pleasant, he had grown accustomed to having little walls around him. He liked the open spaces. The freedom to go wherever he wanted. Places like these brought back better memories, if anyone could remember that. He remembered his street family loving to go to the circus. Getting in was quite the problem in the past since money wasn’t available to him like it was now. Always sneaking in. Carefully making sure that he wasn’t spotted considering it was ridiculous they had to pay to get in anyway. In the past, he had indeed stolen much. What else could he afford at that time?
Now it was easy to get in. He didn’t think that he was recognizable to some of them from when they came back. How many people have they seen since then? Plus, he changed a bit since he was that young. The man was almost thirty. His hair was much shorter. Then, he hadn’t really been concerned with hair cuts, so it waved long behind him in wavy length. No, not many people would recognize him from those days. Manuka had been such a different town back then anyway. Listen to him, sounding like an old man who had been looking back at ‘the old days’. Back when ‘things weren’t as useful as they were today’. Stuff like that. Though he supposed in relative to some of the supernaturals walking around in Manuka, he was nothing. There were so many immortals running around. Arthur always huffed at that. Who wanted to live in this world forever? Arthur was not about living anymore. It was about surviving to the next day. Professional. Finding joy, but also knowing the reality of life. That was what most people had a very hard time with.
Still, even knowing the reality of life, it didn’t mean he never enjoyed himself. This day, he was also doing it by himself. Something he preferred not to do on occasions like this. However, his general pessimistic attitude didn’t get himself many friends. Which was fine. It was better to be picky with friends instead of having many who annoyed you in several different ways. Arthur really did enjoy some though. Some that could really speak to him and make him feel like a person again. Er- warlock, but he didn’t exactly make that public. The only ones who really knew were the others who could feel the magic running through the air. He could tell when he met another witch or warlock from that. Arthur wasn’t all that powerful of a warlock. Could create a few spells here and there, but in general, he only knew the basics. The ones that probably most large families could do in their young teen years. It didn’t bother him too much. It wasn’t like he needed it everyday.
He could have invited someone if he really wanted to. He was sure that if he really was desperate to find someone to talk to, Natalie would have been the choice. But he drove her absolutely nuts. Though he had no idea why she kept popping up into his head. Her attitude was almost addicting. All of that made him of course, weary and more guarded against her. Arthur wasn’t going to allow her addicting and annoying attitude get to him. Still, he it would be nice to at least meet somewhere there. Rather hard considering he was also not really the social type. He wasn’t good at just going up to people and saying ‘oh hello, I’m Arthur’ and bring up something interesting and small talk that would eventually lead to a friendship. Most of his friends had been brought through them being social or an unfortunate cause that forced the pair to talk. He did not wish for any of it.
The shows were entertaining. Some of the stunts were absolutely amazing, and Arthur wondered if he should have ran with them when he got the chance. Did some spells and stuff for them to dazzle. Though he was sure those supernatural on the light side of the war and that wanted to keep everything a secret would throw a giant bitch fit. Besides, his place was here. As much as he complained about it, it was the most of a home he had ever known. Now nightfall was starting to come and everyone was sitting on the grass chatting with their family or friends about what they saw that day. There were plenty of others who were selling all the food. Might as well. Arthur grabbed a drink, turned around, and boom- person. He tried to keep his drink from spilling everywhere, but his efforts were… useless. ”Oh, God, I am so sorry!” He said, putting his drink on the nearest flat surface. That magic feel was in the air. It surprised him. Oh, so he wasn’t alone here, now was he?
