DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
STYLE Cassie’s style can be described as old-school (and in fact has been by her aunt). With her head held high, Cas doesn’t mind the teasing because she feels good in what she wears and that is enough for her. If she isn’t wearing earthy colours, such as beiges and creams, she wears darker, cool colours, blues and purples. She feels they bring out her natural tones. Jeans and a baggy t-shit are perfect for when she is hanging around the house or at the back of her aunt’s shop but when she goes out she will at least put a little effort in, a nice jacket perhaps, or even a skirt. She may even put make-up on.
Her make-up can be quite dark sometimes, especially around her eyes. This is to make them look bigger and brighter than they already are. When she is with her aunt, for instance, and they go out for lunch, she will don her earthy colours, as her hippy, happy-go-lucky aunt says they make Cassie shine. Jewellery is never a necessity with Cas, unless it’s the amulet that her aunt gave her when her adoption finally went through. Cas wear this all the time and sometimes will wear any of other the five or so necklaces she has. As often as she can she will wear green, as it is her favourite colour and it makes her feel secure.

OVERALL
Cassandra is one of those genuinely friendly people: when she asks you how you are, she truly wants to know. Cas is not shy, as she loves talking with people, and listening to them. She can be a little timid at times though. She knows she does not know much and has much to learn so will cower to those who know better. Her caring nature makes her a good, trustworthy friend, who listens well and tries her best to help those around her. She is a good listener and all those that know her appreciate this about her.
Her modesty belies her secret desire to become one of the most powerful witches the world has ever seen. It is not that she wants to rule the world, heaven forbid! She simply wants to be able to help people when they need it. She was incapable of helping her family and it cost them their lives. Cassandra will not let that happen again. She is patient though, willing to learn and watch and wait. She works hard and knows her time will come.
Consummately calm, it takes a great deal to rile Cassie up. Her hands work as fast as they can, her mind works as best as it can, and she knows that no amount of forcing will make either perform beyond their borders. She is realistic and honest about herself: if she cannot achieve something she will not pretend or say that she can; if someone asks for her help and she cannot help them she will not lie to them. She isn’t a very good liar in any case. Her mouth starts to twitch, her eyes water; lying just doesn’t sit well with Cassandra.
This has always been Cassandra’s downfall for as soon as she likes a boy, she cannot perform the necessary socially accepted moves. They make her feel uncomfortable and fake, and she cannot abide by that. So she is the kind of girl to just come out and tell a boy she likes him. Forward and direct, that’s how her aunty always taught her. It sometimes frightens boy away. Her aunt is always there with a wise word and says that if he ran away he is clearly not the one for her little Cassie.
Cassandra is easily hurt and easily consoled. She does not hold grudges and does not play emotional games. Her Amish upbringing has stuck with her a great deal in that respect. She is an open book to any that want to read and a worthy ally for anyone who wants to help others. Hurt another human being in front of Cassie and that will be the last straw. She abhors violence and hatred and sees no use for them in our society. I pray you never see this side of Cassandra Halloway, it may get ugly.

OVERALL
Cassandra Margaret Halloway was the second child to Obediah and Miriam Halloway. The couple, when they had newly married, gave up their wicked ways and moved to a small Amish farming community in Pennsylvania. Where they moved from, Cassandra never knew as it seemed a sore topic, as well as the reason why they moved. All Cassandra knew was that Obedaih and Miriam were happy together and that their happy family was greatly blessed with four beautiful, hard working children. Season came and went and the Halloway family grew and flourished. The community, small though it was, had accepted them as one of their own and all was well for this happy family.
It was in the spring, just before Cassandra’s tenth birthday, when the tornado came through. This was not an uncommon occurrence, as tornadoes came through every year. The unusual thing about this particular tornado was the path it chose. It set down in the centre of Pennsylvania, swooped eastward and hit the Halloway’s community with such ferocity and force that it was a miracle that only one person survived: Cassandra. When the helicopters had been dispatched and the ground teams had begun to comb the area, Cassandra’s aunt, her mother’s sister, Marianne made contact with those searching the rubble and helped. Tirelessly, for three days, Marianna and the others searched the wrecks and found nothing, until the fourth day when the tiny form of a nine year old Cassandra was discovered hiding in a storm drain.
The paperwork all done, and the healing salve beginning to be applied to little Cassandra’s damaged heart, Marianne adopted her niece as her charge and they moved into Marianne’s house in Manuka, Maine. It was the day after Cassandra’s birthday that Marianne gave Cassandra an amulet on a thin, golden chain. Marianne told Cassandra, her little Cassie, that it would always bring her home and keep her safe. Cassie, as her aunt then started calling her, didn’t understand at the time that the amulet was enchanted with a protection spell. Her aunt was a witch and she was to learn the ways of being a witch as well.
Cassie found she was eager to learn, not just about the magic but about everything around her. Her wide eyes could not eat up enough of the interesting things around her. The lights that came on with the flick of a switch, the toilet that was indoors, the stores and shops where you purchased your food instead of growing it; it was all new to her and she was eager to see it all. By the time she was thirteen, Cassie could taking apart a bed-side lamp and putting it back together again, as well as make any simple potion you wanted. Her aunt opened a little shop where they sold their wares and Cassie helped.
For the youngster, this was the best education she could get, however the law said differently. Marianne hired a private tutor to get her through all her schooling before she was old enough to be in her final year. Cassie took this challenge by the horns and excelled so she went to the local high school for her senior year. Being around other people her age, who knew nothing about the world of magic, was difficult for Cas. She knew she wasn’t a very good liar and had to find ways of evading the truth that wasn’t lying, or telling a lie that was truthful or some variation their on so that she wouldn’t give away her aunt’s secret. Marianne had explain to Cassandra the reality of the world that she had been brought into: the war, those who would subjugate humans, simply because they could. Cassandra knew full well what would happen should she be found out.
She was not.
Two years down the line, Cas is still living with her aunt, though they have moved in about Marianne’s store, and she is now working there. With Cassie’s input, the store called The King’s Chamber is doing very well. She re-did the lighting and painted the walls so the space looks much bigger; she put up the shelves and none have fallen since. It might be a little shop but it’s just what they need (plus, for Marianne’s sake, it’s right across the road from a coffee shop, which is perfect). They have the usual interested but unsuspecting humans that come into the shop who think it’s all fun and made up but there is the odd supernatural being that comes in for a potion or a spell. Business is going well for them and for Cassandra.

It had been another of those rollercoaster dreams that had woken Cassandra up at four in the morning. Again. As she walked into the small kitchen and made herself a cup of very strong tea, she knew she had had the dream before. It was not many days ago either. It was the day that cute boy had come into the shop and bought ... now, what was it ... that bracelet. Yes. Cas had even made a joke that his girlfriend would love it. He didn’t say anything in response to that, just smiled at her from below his dark brows, thanked her, and left. That evening she had had the dream for the first time.
Cas moved to the little table in the kitchen and sat down, pulling up her legs to her chest. She put her cup of tea on the table and waved her finger around the rim of the mug; the teaspoon stirred itself as she thought more. What had the dream been about? That’s what Marianne will be interested in when she wakes up in a few hours time. What happened in it?
Cas was walking down a path, she remembered, what looked like a sidewalk in a suburban area of the city. She turned a corner and ... something was missing there, what she could not remember ... Next she was running, running in her brown boots with a thick hear. They made a specific noise when she ran. She was suddenly in the industrial area, still running. She gripped her amulet tight in her hand as she ran: she would not risk losing it. She ran and glanced backwards and saw nothing but felt the fright in her heart and did not stop running. As she looked forward and shook her dark, curls from her face, she went head-long into someone’s chest and hit to floor.
She woke up every time she hit the ground. Cassandra had a sip of her tea and contemplated what the dream could mean. What was it that was so much taller than herself, even when she was in her high-heel boots? How would she have gotten from place to place to place like that? But most importantly, why was she running?
When Marianne walked into the kitchen, her first question was about the dream. Cas told her the new details of it and her suspicions about what it may mean. Marianne merely hugged Cas and stroked her hair, saying that it was probably the emergence of Cas’s foresight, though without more work, it was difficult to say for sure what it could mean.
“Go for a jog,” Marianne suggest, “you always feel better after that.”
Cassie shook her head. “I’m tired from all the running in my dream, Aunty Anne,” Cas said stretching her long legs before her. “I’ll just have a relaxing bath and get us some coffee from across the road.”
Marianne kissed Cassandra on the heard and nodded her head. The only thing Cas knew for sure was that she would have to be on the look-out for the man who’s chest met her face.
