Judas decided that it was hot enough to take his daughter out swimming. He was careful, of course, to make sure that there was no one at the location which he'd chosen, but he knew that mostly mermaids frequented this area anyway. He grinned as he carried Sabriel in his arms, the child looking around curiously at all the things around her. She was truly the best thing to ever happen to him, Judas was just so happy with Sabriel in his arms and it showed by the blinding smile on his face. He could forget that he was ever unhappy, he could forget about people he's dated and had in his life because no one mattered but Sabriel. Her little baby bag was over his shoulder, and once there he tossed the bag to the ground, sitting Sabriel down far enough away from the water so he could look out for her while he stripped out of his clothes.
He had always been curious as to why it was only liquid that affected the tail, but not say, sweat, or saliva, or his own blood. He shuddered at the thought of that and took off his shirt, letting the sun beat down on skin that was almost slick with sweat from the heat and the exertion of walking all the way here. Usually, the merman would make sure to run. He loved running it was so relaxing, but with a baby in his life and almost no one out to help him as often as it would take for him to get regular exercise, He smiled at the laughing child and undressed her before walking into the water. He waited for his legs to change into a tail before he brought her in, taking her by the middle and dragging her into the water.
Even at this young age, Sabriel was getting her tail, whereas Judas himself had only experienced it at thirteen. He supposed that he would have preferred for it to come out as a baby, simply because it would have been less of a shock for a teenager to experience something like this. Sabriel giggled and splashed her little tail in the water. The one thing Judas was glad for, was that her fangs hadn't shown yet. Hell, he wasn't sure if fangs would show, and he hoped not, but he didn't want to be taken by surprise. He didn't want to get bitten by his own child just to find out that her vampire side was more prominent than he'd thought. Although, the man didn't want to think about her vampire side or where it came from, though there was a constant reminder in Basil of it. Shaking his head, he grinned at Sabriel, splashing some water on her hair and watching her giggle. open to anyone<3

Even though he knew this part of Manuka was usually inhabited by mermaids and mermen, he wasn't fearful of the creatures. Cyrus had seen and been acquainted with nearly every known species, and more than a few rather unique hybrids in his over two-thousand years of existence, which was why he had learned to accept and embrace all uniqueness. Of course, not all the people he came across ended up as positive acquaintances; he'd collected more than a few enemies in his day as well, simply because of the 'business' that he and his twin brother tended to involve themselves within. Even though Cyrus did his best to stick more toward neutral ground, especially since he was in the thievery business, it had been to his benefit to get in touch with a more ambiguous morality, but since he loved his brother with all his heart, even that could be set aside in order to come to his aid or help with whatever 'mission' he saw fit to take part in. They had saved countless lives together, and even though Cyrus did have friends on both sides of the fence, so to speak, he was proud of the work they had done together. Although now, this 'work' seemed to be quiet, allowing him to focus on his other, more profitable business.
Since he was currently enjoying his 'down time' in between jobs, he decided to enjoy a proper summer's day which was rather hot, and take a stroll by the body of water, despite the fact that the aquatic inhabitants might be less than pleased to have someone not of their 'kin' next to what was likely one of their safe spaces. It saddened him that even with all the modern advances to mindsets and the world, supernatural beings were not really free to be themselves out in the open. Of course, in some situations, this was likely for the best – there were vampires and other creatures that would just as soon use that kind of 'freedom' to prey on countless numbers of innocent, and that just wouldn't do. But mer-people had to hide such a crucial part of themselves, and Cyrus couldn't even begin to fathom how difficult that must have been on a daily basis.
As he made his way down the shoreline, he heard the sound of a child's laugher, and couldn't help but smile. It was a fond sort of sadness, because while he had been completely prepared to be a father, his own child had never gotten the opportunity to come into the world. Cyrus' true love and his unborn child's mother had been murdered while he or she had still been in the womb, and not a day went by when the hybrid didn't mourn the loss of both of them. He had gotten a chance to be an uncle to his brother's children, but somehow, that wasn't enough to fill the void he felt that Mae and his child left behind when they left the world long before their time. When he got closer, he saw the little girl splashing her tail around in the water, carefully accompanied by a young man who seemed to be her father. Cyrus couldn't see his tail, but his aura read merman with a definite certainty, and the child was some sort of hybrid, like himself... mermaid and... vampire? Cyrus looked closer, but knew he was likely being stealthy with his steps – after doing what he did for so many years, it almost became a habit, and while he knew he could walk past without being seen or heard, he didn't want to accidentally startle anyone and make himself seem like a threat. So, as he got close enough to be heard, he called out in a kind, gentle tone to the young man who was assisting the child in the water. ”I don't mean to disturb you or the little one, Sir – but you two make a lovely family.”
Cyrus smiled kindly, his eyes a bit sad because really, the bond between a parent and child was something never to be taken for granted, and this man obviously loved his daughter. The colors of the man's aura flickered then, and Cyrus hoped that he hadn't done some great trespass and made himself seem like a potential threat. ”I'm merely a passer-by, and I have no interest in harming either you nor any of your species. I merely thought it kinder to say hello than sneak past.”

Judas had been certain that this would be a place that not many ever walked past. That they were safe to swim without prying eyes, especially with the fact that both he and Sabriel had tails in the water, but apparently that wasn’t true, because about an hour into them splashing about, he heard a voice. Judas was startled to say the least, and panicking before he even heard what the man was saying. He was no threat; he said that they make a lovely family. It appeared that it didn’t matter that Judas and his child had a tail. That wasn’t the case most of the time, and Judas had found that out the hard way. First, when he was thirteen and his parents found out that he had a tail, they were just as terrified of it as Judas felt. Though, instead of comforting him and understanding him, they called a scientist to see what was wrong with their son. So Judas ran, he made some terrible decisions in life, but here he was, with the one thing that mattered most to him and he would die protecting her. He heard the words that the stranger spoke, and looked up at him in surprise, at a loss of what to say. “I um ... I wasn’t expecting anyone to walk by,” Judas started, and licked his lips. “I mean, thank you. Thanks a lot, she means the world to me.”
Judas didn’t want to seem rude so he swam closer, his baby in his arms. When he was close enough to the shore, he sat so Sabriel was next to him and he noted the sadness in the stranger’s eyes. The longing and the merman’s heart truly went out to him. When species were mentioned, Judas looked down at little Sabriel’s tail and his own, and sighed softly. “Not many people would have the same intentions.” He said, knowing how true that was. Hunters and other people would want to harm mermen, and children like Sabriel. She was a hybrid for god’s sake, she was even more special than Judas and many would punish her for it. Her vampire side hasn’t kicked in yet, but Judas knew that he wanted for her not to have this blood craving. He wished that the mermaid side would be heavier on the balance rather than the vampire side because he’d know more how to deal with that. The last thing he wanted was to have to rely on Basil more than he should, when he was the one who put him in this situation in the first place. He was a single, gay man raising a baby. Who would have though, hm?
“Then I’m glad you stopped to say hello, though maybe in a little compromising position, with my tail out and all.” Judas joked, but his tone was heavy with a sadness almost, self-loathing because he hated his tail. But then he had to think about Sabriel, and he didn’t hate hers. Hers was beautiful, and essentially his was the same thing, so shouldn’t Judas really love himself too? That is certainly taking a while to make sense, and he rubbed his tattooed arm absent mindedly. That was another thing. Just because of all of his tattoo’s, many people thought that he wasn’t fit to be a father, when in truth he had them so he could love something about himself. The imagery of waves and all represented him as a merman, but in a way that he was more able to accept. “If you like, come and swim with us?” Just because Judas was gay didn’t mean that that was a come on, but he and Sabriel were having a good time swimming, and it could always be fun with company. tagged: cj/cyrus

Part of the joy of living forever meant that he got the rare opportunity to watch the world changing around him. Cyrus had known many good, sometimes even great people – he had met people who had changed his life, whose memory would alter the course of his existence forever, and then there were those who continued to stay a part of his life. People like his brother, Dorian, who had maintained a constant staple, and sometimes even the center of his universe since they were boys together. Cyrus had always looked up to Dorian, and admired his kind heart and fearlessness. Although he considered himself to be neutral where alliances in the supernatural world were concerned, he still took up arms for a noble cause, despite the fact that he had friends on both sides of the equation. Dorian, however, always held priority, which was why Cyrus stayed somewhat rooted to the small, coastal city of Manuka. The hybrid preferred travel, and he liked to use his unlimited amount of years to explore and really get to know and understand the changes that were going on in different parts of the world, right under his nose. However, Dorian was settled there, in Manuka, and Cyrus had never liked to keep much of a distance between him and his twin whenever he could avoid it. Sometimes business trips took him away for months at a time, but he always had somewhere to come home to, and that was a comfort that he kept with him every time he was far away.
Not long into his walk along the little island and the calm, pristine waters did he see a young man and child splashing about in the water, and a smile crept to Cyrus' face. They were beautiful, and the child – a little girl, from what he could see – looked to be so happy in the protective arms of what Cyrus could only assume was her father. His heart lurched a little, because he so wanted to know that joy of having a child to love. Sometimes, he dreamed about what it might have been like to raise his child in the security of the Northern states with Mae as his wife and Dorian as a proud uncle. Boy or girl, it wouldn't have mattered – Cyrus had just wanted a healthy child, but sadly, life had decided that he wasn't yet meant to be a father, and took the woman he loved and their unborn child in one tragic swoop that had hollowed him out. Even though it was a little painful, he didn't feel right about sneaking around, and called out to the young man, who seemed shocked for a moment, maybe even slightly nervous as the colors in his aura rippled, and a slight bit of shame crept in. Cyrus managed a gentle smile – what did he have to be ashamed of? Mermaids were lovely creatures, and he seemed to be a kind individual. ”I like to explore areas I haven't yet been while I'm in the area, and the water soothes me.” It was an explanation as to how someone who wasn't a creature of the sea would come to an area where they tended to roam freely, unafraid to be themselves.
Carefully, the man swam closer, seeming to warm up to the hybrid just a little, and Cyrus got a chance to focus on the girl who was happily splashing around in the water. She was... different. He saw the tail, but he sensed... vampire. Interesting. ”There's nothing wrong with either of you having a tail. I believe that all creatures are special and... beautiful.” Good and evil added to or subtracted from beauty, of course, but all creatures in their natural state, like mermaids in the free, open space of water were... beautiful. Cyrus smiled again, his eyes meeting the man in the water's. ”I don't know why anyone would choose to see you as anything less than a lovely family, and I certainly am not one of those people. I'm actually... something like your little one there. What's her name?”
Since he was doing the introduction thing, he decided that he should give his name as well. ”My name is Cyrus, by the way, and it's lovely to meet the both of you.” Then, the hybrid was surprised when he was invited to swim with them, which meant that the merman must not have been threatened by him. That, or he was being led into a trap, since mermaids were much stronger in the water. But Cyrus was confident that nothing bad would happen to him here, or that he could get himself out of a bad situation if he absolutely had to. ”I'm certainly not as strong a swimmer as you, but... well, it has been a while, and it's a splendid day. Why not?” Cyrus kicked off his shoes, tucked them against a rock, then stripped off his shirt and shorts, moving into the water in his boxers, because even though they weren't proper swimming attire, they would work on an impromptu basis. Then, he waded into the water, just up to his knees first, then joining them in deeper water, up to his waist, and smiled before starting to playfully splash with the little girl, a happy smile on his face the entire time.
