Things have changed for me, and that’s okay
Recently, the weather had been absolutely beautiful, at least in Marley’s opinion. Sunny, but not too warm. There were humid days, sure, but nothing like when Marley lived in New York City. She swore the buildings there trapped the heat and made the city twenty times hotter than it really should’ve been. While Manuka might’ve been a city, it was nowhere near the magnitude of New York and it had enough open space that it seemed to stay cooler. Either way, she couldn’t complain. Nice weather always trumped icky weather and she needed to take advantage of the sun while she had the chance.
The witch figured today would be a good day to walk Dexter, her gigantic mutt that had an even bigger heart. With all the shifts she had picked up at the hospital recently, she hadn’t had too much time to actually go walk him. She tried her best, but it was hard to get his walks in when she worked all day and came home late at night. The witch certainly wasn’t in the right neighborhood to be going on midnight walks, even with a dog. Dex would much rather befriend an attacker than be an attack dog himself. He loved people, which was rather ironic since Marley would rather have nothing to do with them. Dexter was always trying to meet new people, which forced Marley to be way more social than she’d ever hope to be.
So far though, the walk had gone on without much incident. They had passed a lot of people on the park’s trails, but he was much too excited to finally be going on a walk that he didn’t feel the need to stop and great everyone. In fact, he was so excited that he was practically pulling Marley along, tongue hanging out of his mouth and everything. She kept expecting him to get tired, but he somehow kept finding the energy to push on, going every which way possible. It was making Marley feel even guiltier, actually, since she knew a lot of this was because she seemed to always be at work. She really should hire a dog walker or something, but she didn’t really want anyone in her apartment and she definitely didn’t trust anyone around her dog. The only person Marley had really ever let walk her dog while she hadn’t been there was Spencer, but she knew it was a lot to ask him to go do that. She’d just have to deal with these super long power walks with Dex, which she guessed really were good for her, too. Finally though, it seemed like Dexter needed a break, so they stopped at a bench, Marley pulling out a water bowl and bottle from her backpack to make sure her dog stayed hydrated.
