Edisth is tired, and she needs her caffeine fix, right now, or else she'll be cranky and unhappy. She'd driven for hours before arriving in the city, and her neck twinges every time she turns her head. She is tired from her journey, and has decided to at least find a hotel to stay the night at before continuing on her journey. But something seems different here. She can't put her finger on it, but there was a niggling sense of not quite right in the back of her skull that has her shifting around uncomfortably on her feet.
The willowy girl takes her black leather bag off of her shoulders, setting it on the chair beside her and then stretching, spots all along her spine popping as she arches(quite accurately) like a cat. She laces her fingers together and pushes her palms out in front of her, cracking her knuckles before picking up the menu on the small table she's chosen.
She peruses the list for the perfect pastry, needing something sweet but not too sweet. She smiles as her eyes rest on two words: Almond croissant. Edisth stands, closing the menu and grabbing her bag before walking up to the counter to place her order for a warmed almond croissant and a cup of Earl Grey. The girl pays, then walks back over to the little table to rummage through her bag for a hair tie to pull back her long, wavy red hair.
Once Edisth had her hair up in a bun, she rummaged through her satchel for her book. She finds it, the tatty old paperback of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on of her favourites, since it was long enough to take her time, and interesting enough to keep her attention. She opens it to her bookmark, and after a few minutes of reading, her tea and croissant are carefully set down next to her book. The redhead looks up and smiles in thanks before closing the paperback and putting it back in her bag.

Sporting a bedhead he was too lazy to fix, he gently pushed the door open, a gentle chime announcing the arrival of another hungry customer. He was greeted by the aroma of the baked goods the shop was well known for, an easy smile adorning his lips. Today would be a good day. Woke up happy, and soon he would have something sweet in his hands.
The Cookie Jar was among his favorite places of Manuka, Maine. It sold a wide range of baked goods as well as caffeine-filled beverages. Though he preferred to get the occasional coffee from the Steaming Beans, this cute little shop severed the best hot chocolate he'd had the pleasure to enjoy in the entirety of his seventy-three years. Boy, am I feeling wonderful today, Rayne thought with a soft chuckle bubbling on his lips, having the strange urge to laugh for no apparent reason. Well, duh, he was going to eat chocolate and some other tasty shit soon, but.. still. A good mood like this wasn't all that common for him.
Though they had exotic delicacies, of which he's sampled many times before, as soon as the man approached the counter with a toothy grin directed towards the worker behind he placed an order for his usual; a chocolate cupcake with a melted chocolate filling topped with creamy chocolate icing and a mix of chocolate chips and chocolate sprinkles. And a cup of hot chocolate, of course. He was quite the chocoholic, to say the very least. After his mouthwatering request, he stepped out of line, pulling his dark shades off and folding them closed.
His grey gaze flitted across the small space as he contemplated his choice of seating, brushing his black hair from his eyes. Rayne's center of attention, however, landed on a particularly pretty redhead seated at one of the colorful tables. She had just placed her book on the flat surface when a drink and croissant were delivered, fiery hair tied up in a bun. Curious about the pastry he was unfamiliar with, he did what he always does best; acted without thinking. He strolled over, plucked the baked good from the tabletop and took a bite from it.
Rayne set it back down with faint smile, sitting down across from the stranger. "It's good, but I think it needs chocolate," he commented shamelessly, batting his eyelashes playfully.

Edisth looks up in faint surprise at the man's actions. Of course, she'd heard him approaching, but she was surprised by what he did. She looks at him confusedly, for a moment at a loss what to say. She studies him while she thinks, wondering if he could be supernatural or not. After all, most people didn't randomly walk over to a stranger's table and take a bite from her food. And supernatural beings were a bit strange.
She studies his face, and his clothes, which are tight-fitted and goth-style. He's handsome, and probably a few years older than her. He looks like fun. She smiles appreciatively at the view, the way his hair stood askew adding cuteness to the overall harshness of his appearance. "Hello, stranger." She says quietly, drooping her eyelids over her bright blue eyes and tilting her head.
She snatches the croissant off of her plate then, long, pale fingers bringing it up to her full lips for a bite. She hums in approval; the baker here definitely didn't skimp on almond paste. "Maybe it could use some chocolate." She muses aloud, then notices the server coming their way with a plate that appears to just have a gooey mountain of chocolate on top of it and a cup.
She smiles politely at the server as he sets the food down in front of the mysterious man, and then turns to him, smile widening into a mischievous grin. "Oh, and what might this be? Chocolate, right on time." She says, reaching forward and swirling a fingertip through melted chocolate and icing. She puts the finger in her mouth, her eyes never leaving the man's as she sucks the sweet chocolate off of it.
"Perfect." She purrs, licking her lips and leaning forward on her elbows. "I'm Edisth. E-D-I-S-T-H, but obviously, the S is silent. And who might you be?"

In that moment, however, he caught her gaze moving quickly, a faint look of surprise adorning her lightly freckled features. Rayne smirked, lacing his fingers together to rest his chin upon his hands. He could tell that she was giving him a look over; everyone did. They would try to get some sort of vibe, or just realize how fucking sexy he was. Either way, it wasn't an unsual thing for him. He actually enjoyed it, even when people got judgmental.
"How are you, darling?" came his teasing reply when the redhead finally spoke, the corner of his mouth lifting into another faint smile. The angel chuckled softly once more when she agreed, speaking her thoughts and saying that the croissant could use some chocolate. "Everything would taste ten times better if it had some form of chocolate in it." Okay, so his chocoholic side was already showing.. Who the hell cares? Everyone likes sweets, he thought to himself with quiet snort.
And then he was practically bouncing with excitement as the server came into view, setting before him his heavenly order of chocolate and chocolate. When the girl flashed him a grin at the sight, an almost bashful expression took over Rayne's features. He definitely ate more chocolate than the average person, and if there was anything he'd ever be embarrassed of, it would come down to that, mainly because he wasn't fat after consuming so much sugar. His grey eyes widened in surprise when the girl reached forward and swiped some icing from his cupcake, though he grinned just as easily.
"I couldn't agree more," he hummed, taking a lick of the icing from his sweet after the stranger purred her approval. His hand wrapped around the warm mug of hot chocolate, listening intently to what she spoke next. "That's a lovely name for a beautiful girl," Rayne flirted without a second thought, taking a sip of the scalding liquid. "Mmm.. I'm Rayne. R-A-Y-N-E." Gaze focused on Edisth, he tilted his head to the side slightly. "Are you new? I don't know many people here, but I haven't seen your face before."

"I'm good. Tired from the drive, but definitely good." Edisth says, blue eyes latching onto grey out of habit from her father's discipline. Edisth's eyes track the movement of his tongue, and she can feel a soft blush forming on her cheeks. She smiles though, because apparently he is as much of a flirt as herself. She picks up her tea, taking a sip of it and wrinkling her nose. She'd forgotten to put sugar or creamer in it, and it's bitter as wormwood compared to what she had just tasted.
"Thank you for the compliment. Calling me beautiful when we've only just met, and I'm wearing my comfiest sweater?" She indicates the worn out sleeve of her black-and-red striped sweater. "I think you've broken the last man's record." She teases, winking. "Now I'll be right back, I need some cream and sugar in my tea... I hope you'll wait for me, you're quite... Interesting." Her voice is like honey on the last word.
She stands, moving lithely over to the counter that holds multiple creamers, syrups, and sugars for customers. She takes the tea bag out, squeezing extra tea into the cup and tossing it into the trash. Then, she grabs a small bowl of sugar cubes, spooning them in one by one and watching them dissolve. Once there seems to be enough, she sets the bowl back where she found it, and takes a small pitcher of cream to pour a dollop into her sweetened tea. She smiles then, setting the pitcher down and taking a sip of her tea. She . Perfect.
The willowy girl makes her way back to the table where Rayne waits, smiling at him as she sits down. "And I am new, but mainly only because I'm just stopping by. I'm on a bit of a road trip." She says softly, her tone masking her real emotions regarding the trip. She swallows, feeling her eyes prick at the corners, but she shakes her head to clear it away. "And I like your name. It's unusual." She smiles, briefly. "It's kind of sexy, I'll admit."

Another smirk came to his own lips. There were plenty of flirts in Manuka, though this particular one wasn't necessarily all over him. It was an odd change from the usual, but.. well, nice. Seducing the maidens of Maine was tiring, and being able to actually just talk, even if it was about pointless shit, was quite relaxing.
"And don't forget that face you just made," Rayne chuckled lightly, referring to when she had suddenly wrinkled her nose after tasting her tea. He didn't particularly enjoy the taste of tea, but when it was sweet enough he'd walk around Manuka drinking one. "Mm.. I've broken many records before, sweetheart," he purred softly, returning Edisth's wink with a sultry smile. In all honesty, the sweater may have been a bit worn, but it looked good on the redhead. Especially with those blue eyes of hers.
Then he was pulled out of his thoughts when she stood, announcing she needed to get something for her tea. He bit his lip slightly when she said he was interesting, raising an eyebrow. "I wouldn't leave even if the sky came crashing down, honey," the angel replied, his words flowing smoothly past his lips. Grey gaze fixed on the sway of her hips and the way she moved, he watched Edisth with interest. He noticed that she moved almost flawlessly, automatically to put sugar and creamer in her tea, as if she'd done it a million times before. And he also noticed she had a nice ass.
"Just stopping by?" he pouted playfully, curling his fingers into his palm so he could rest his cheek against his hand. "Road trips are so boring..." Rayne nodded, remembering how long it took him to get from fucking Kentucky to Maine. Shit, was that a waste of time when he could have just boarded a plane. He takes a generous bite from his cupcake, the sweet chocolate gooeyness melting on his tongue, delighting each and every of his tastebuds. God, I should do this more often. This is delicious! Then the sweet was set down and traded for a drink of hot chocolate, another teasing smile adorning his lips at Edisth's compliment. "Everything about me is sexy, darling. There's plenty more to me than just my adorable name."

Edisth smiles a little, taking a long sip of her tea and sighing in contentment. Then, she takes another bite of her croissant, swiping another bit of icing from his plate to join it and borderline moaning her approval for the mix of flavours. "Damn this really is better with chocolate." She murmurs, sending a flirtatious smile Rayne's way.
Edisth smirks, eyeing the dark-haired man. "Someone's a bit conceited." She sing-songs, her long fingers curling around the warmth of her mug. The pale girl leans a little closer, voice dropping into a sultry murmur as she moves close to his ear. "Though I wouldn't say I disagree." She says, then moves back into her chair to look at him. She grins then, glad she met this hot stranger who can't seem to keep himself from flirting.
"I don't have to be just stopping by. I could stay, it wouldn't exactly change anything." Edisth says, shrugging slightly. It wouldn't change anything. At all. Nothing ever changes. She could have stopped driving a state and a half away, but it felt wrong there. "It doesn't matter what city I'm in, as long as..." She trails off, swallowing back the rush of longing for her brother and fighting tears again. She shakes her head. "Never mind." She mutters quietly, moving to take a sip from her tea. "If I were to stay here, I'd need to find a place to stay. I haven't even found a place to stay the night, let alone for a more definite period of time.
"It's just that.... This city feels different, like..." Edisth huffs slightly, drumming her fingers against her mug. "Like... I'm not sure, I can't put my finger on it. It's just... Different, like the air's charged." Her lips snap shut and her eyes widen as she realises that she probably sounds crazy. The man is probably just a human, and she probably just made herself sound crazy to the only interesting person here thusfar.
Edisth bites her lower lip, nibbling at the skin along the inside as she waits for him to speak, to react, to say something, rather than just sit there with that slightly bored, mostly flirtatious look on his face. As she waits, her mind kicks into fuck why did I say that I may have just screwed myself over mode, and her heart beat quickens as she waits. She grabs her pastry, busying herself with a bite from the flaky, warm croissant.

Definitely not, especially when her lips came near to his ear, causing his lips to stretch into another flirtatious smirk. With a chuckle of amusement, he took another bite of his cupcake, watching the attractive girl intently, unfavorable of missing a single word she says. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been so social, so friendly towards someone before..
Then the mood seemed to become a bit downcast when she spoke of her trip, saying that even if she stopped in Manuka it wouldn't change anything. Fingertips dug into the flesh of his palm, muscles beginning to tense. Rayne could relate. Nothing had changed for him since he came here. He was still suicidal, depressed, violent.. Nothing was different. Though he refused to let it show, forcing himself to relax visibly. "As long as you stay distracted.." came the quiet, almost inaudible ending to Edisth's sentence. His grey gaze dropped to his cooling drink, then glanced back to the girl. "There are plenty of nice folks in Manuka." I'm not one of them. "I'm sure you'll find a place to stay."
The angel's grey eyes widened when Edisth continued on to explain the weird feeling she got about Manuka, The city did have a different feel. It was odd, really. To him, this place just felt.. right. Like he was meant to be here, but why, he didn't have a clue. He meets her gaze for a brief minute, seeing the alarmed expression on the redhead's face. Probably hadn't meant to say that, then.. He took a sip of his hot chocolate, hastily thinking of a valid response. Discussing emotions wasn't something he enjoyed doing.
"You think differently than some people," was the comment that escaped his lips, eyes narrowing slightly in thought. "I understand what you're saying." He looked down at the table again, allowing his bangs to cover his face as he scowled at his cupcake. Edisth did seem to think differently. Was she not human...? "If you're trying to run, they're here, too," Rayne said suddenly, referring to the hunters. If she didn't get the reference, then, well, she wasn't supernatural and he may have just sounded a little crazy. Or deep. He had nothing to lose, anyways..

When Rayne finally speaks, Edisth's eyes widen uncontrollably, and she bobs her head slightly. She's surprised by his words, how he could speak so freely of the hunters. Her chest tightens. Hunters. God damn it. Her stomach tightens as she remembers each hunter who's ever come after her, who ever slipped a blade into her flesh and listened to her scream. She shudders visibly, her eyes darkening with pain.
"O-oh." She exhales, her heart jack hammering in her chest. She looks at the man, eyes speculative as she slowly slides her hand forward. She can't smell anything different about the man, so she slips her fingertips over the pale skin of his wrist, feeling for a pulse, and detecting none. She smiles then, knowing that he has just as much of a secret as she does.
She looks around, seeing that every other person in the cafe was engrossed in their own conversations and various meals, and slightly. "I see." She says softly, smiling at him and briefly letting her canines grow, her eyes shining a feral golden for a tiny moment. She stops, looking at him with renewed interest, never removing her fingertips from the smooth skin.
"I am not running from them. I'm just running from what my family used to be." She murmurs softly, biting her lip and frowning. "I lost my parents, but what really matters is that I don't know where my brother is." She takes a long drink from her mug, warm tea pouring down her throat and soothing some tension from her shoulders.
She finishes off her croissant, licking her full lips of any remaining sugar once she finished, trying not to look up at Rayne because his grey eyes were captivating, distracting her and derailing her train of thought. "What do you say we get out of here?" She asks, wiping her lips with a napkin and peering over at him with wide, falsely innocent eyes. "I want to ask you about some things. Maybe this town is not so bad, after all."

But he didn't. He only dug his fingers further into his flesh, feeling a trickle of blood slip between his nails. He'd had his own run-ins with hunters, though none could ever kill him. He couldn't die unless an angel saw fit to end him. Thought that didn't stop hunters from torturing him anyways; he still felt pain. He knew how brutal they could be, even if it had been a few years since the last time he'd fought one.
His grey gaze snapped to the movements of her hand, feeling the brush of her fingertips against the skin of his wrist. He watched her curiously, smiling sadly when he knew she couldn't find a pulse. However, he wasn't keen on keeping that physical contact, for it brought back too many memories, and he pulled his arm away. Rayne glanced at her face again, only to see that her eyes had turned a golden color, her teeth looking sharper before. And then that moment was gone, and the girl sitting before him looked as normal as ever.
It grew a little awkward for the angel when she admitted what she was running from, no matter how vague she was being. "I'm running from what I did." And that was all he offered on his background, finishing his hot chocolate as a sign that he wouldn't speak further if prodded. His cupcake was consumed hastily, too, the chocolate taste making him feel a little better. He licked his lips to rid any traces of the sweet icing, gaze meeting Edisth's blue eyes once more. "Sure," Rayne agreed with a small nod, getting to his feet. He stretched briefly, closing his eyes. "I have all the time in the world. Why don't we go back to my place? It's not very far from here."
