He always had this dark shadow following him everywhere that probably just darkened whenever someone saw his attitude. It made him stand-offish and people generally avoided him. Iain couldn’t really say that he minded being avoided. It avoided the cost of having to scare people off with his nature. If they could just see him and run away instead of talking, that would be fine. Sometimes he thought it would be easier on himself if he were kinder to the stranger, but that never really happened. Whenever he tried, he failed. Iain felt so insecure being so open so quick that he crawled back into the shell that he liked to call home and stayed there as long as he could. There had been few to break open the shell. Where he felt comfortable enough not to crawl back into the shell. Where a little of that following darkness vanished.
Not enough people to show others he wasn’t completely heartless, but as long as these people were in his life, it didn’t matter what others thought. They kept him afloat. Not to say that Iain was thinking about drowning, but sometimes, he felt like it would just happen without them. Without Tessa had been the worst moments of his life. He hadn’t eaten or slept for days, scraping by and having barely enough energy to march over to her house and get whatever was on his chest off of his chest. Both a frightening and a lifting moment for him. The first time something in his life turned out the correct way. The way that made him smile and joyful, almost optimistic of the world. Iain huffed. Okay, optimistic was pushing it, but it had been rather close. Confessing love to someone to hear that they returned it did that to people.
Most of the time, when Iain was walking down ‘memory lane’ as they called it, it wasn’t happy memories. It was memories of hiding in the dark, heart thumping and praying that he wouldn’t be found by his drunk father. It was the screaming of his mother and sister filling his ears. The smell of foul alcohol breath and his own sweat. Not this time. This time, he was revisiting St. Amanda’s Hall, where the last time he spent with this place had been one of the happiest of his life. He did end up ruining it in the end, but all the events that took place before had been thrilling. Getting a light snack before running around and finding the perfect place for a small dinner. Iain remembered listening to someone that had the most amazing voice. Almost drawing him in with the sound. There were a couple like this now. Walking by and hearing the voices of angels it seemed like in the cool evening. The sun setting but not yet dark. He preferred it lighter out. It made him almost regret going alone.
Still, there was nothing wrong with solitude. He was sure that he was clinging rather tightly to the love of his life a lot lately, so this walk was doing him good. Managed to stretch out the legs that had been stuck in an office all day. The life of a book critic was no easy one. Having to tell the wrongs people were doing every day even if the book itself was rather decent and would do a decent job. Iain still had to point out the negatives and only a few positives. The one he was reading now actually happened to be terrible, and it was taking him forever to get through page by page because he couldn’t understand half of the words. Or the plot. Or the characters and the significance to the novel. Yes, this walk was needed. Cleared his head. The night was becoming cool and Iain felt a small chill on his arms. The man didn’t like wearing heavy clothes so always took the opportunity to not wear much. He had his jacket for work off, only leaving the under thin shirt showing. But he didn’t want to put on the jacket unless he felt like he absolutely had to. Suddenly, a voice was heard distinctively over the rest. Like it was someone he had heard before, although he could be mistaken. Iain stopped in the middle of the street to look around. There was no point in hiding that he heard someone. Just had to locate them.

It had been a good day after her run in with Damon a few night ago Mira was feeling rather good about herself. Damien had left to go travel so it just left Mira in town, which hurt but she also understood. Their life was anything but easy so sometimes it just helped to keep moving and not settle down. Mira couldn't blame Damien for that , if she was younger she probably would have done the same. She wasn't though and she wanted to find a place she could truly call home and this she hoped would be it. It wasn't lacking in good looking men by any means so that was a plus. Now all she had to do was finding that she loved to do and then just go on living. She hoped her brother was alright though , she knew he as different. Hell her whole family was , she was the only human out of the bunch. That didn't mean she wouldn't worry any less though, maybe he would write her a letter once he got settled. Glancing around she would pick up items that she left scattered around the floor. Mira wasn't the most organized by any means , that wasn't to say she was a slob but sometimes she just didn't care enough about cleaning at the moment.
What was she going to do for the rest of the day though, she spent most of it just laying around. Eating ice cream watching movies, being really productive it wasn't like she had anyone really to tell her do to anything. Sighing she rolled around her bed once more before slipping from the covers and heading to the shower, might as well be clean for the rest of the night then. Have her shower and slipping in the clothes she gathered her things and headed outside Maybe something of interest would happen. The sun was slowly starting to set so that meant it would be night time soon. Mira didn't really mind the night though, even though it was cooler usually that was when the most action happened. At least from what she experienced that was when the most action happened. Still having not lived in Manuka that long it was still hard to find out when the most action was truly happened.
Mira wasn't sure what brought her near St. Amanda's hall but she found that was where she wandered to. It was beautiful out so she didn't mind it , it was just more amusing then anything else. A chill would blow past her, causing herself to hug the jacket more against her frame. Although it was heading to be summer time, that didn't stop the night from have a cold chill run though them. While she was alone she would find herself singing softly, she didn't find herself to be a great singer by any means but that didn't stop the words from coming out of her mouth. Maybe it was the area that she was in that caused the words to spill from her. Regardless it was happening and Mira didn't want to our plan to stop anytime soon. While she was singing though she would hear another voice and it would entrance her , she would want to know who was singing such beautiful music. Her eyes would flick around till they fell on the church,it must have been their voices that caused her to wander more towards them. She would smile at that then continue on her walk,it was nice to know they there was still people who enjoyed singing at church it wasn't often that you heard that anymore.
She would continue on her walk when her phone would ring, chuckling softly she would answer it and start to talk. It was her old friend who she hadn't talked to much sense her move to Manuka so it was night to catch up with her friends when she could. They would talk for a few moments before she would hang up and put her phone back in her pocket. Her eyes would flick around trying to see if anyone else was around ,then she found a person in the middle of the road. It seemed like he was looking for someone,he seemed familiar but the last thing Mira would want to do was approach someone and act like the fool for not knowing them. As she wandered closer she saw that it was Iain, now they weren't truly close by any means not that Mira wouldn't mind another friend but Iain was one that you needed to approach careful and not overstep bounds. So she would wander towards him with a small smile on her face. " Iain pleasure to see you again. " Seeing that he wasn't wearing a coat she would tilt her head. " Aren't you cold without a jacket, I mean I know that it is close to summer but I still find it chilly. How have you been ?"

There were plenty of social people there, for whatever reason. Play simple little tricks to get them to trust he supposed. Even the nicest of people could still be guilty. Take his mother for example. She didn’t do anything. Which was one of the worse things she could have done. After everything that their father did to them, she cried and watched, but as far as Iain was concerned, it had been his sister who did everything. He sorely missed her. That was one of the few heroes. Even if they hadn’t been related, Iain was sure that she would have been one of his closest friends. No- she was his one and only friend for the longest amount of time. Now he was expanding himself more, which he was proud of. To go from one to none to many. Many defining itself as about four and Tessa, but he had come a long way. Who knows? Perhaps the next year after that, he will have seven. Or eight. He doubted nine though. Little too much.
So seeing Mira gave him a more pleasant look on his face. Iain didn’t really smile, but hopefully she understood that it wasn’t a personal thing. It just wasn’t something he did very often. It strained his cheeks and felt like it took too much effort to force it. However, he didn’t take his usual unhappy look, frowning and scowling at everything that managed to walk by him. His pale face that was outlined with dark hair and dark eyes brightened a little in the correct lighting. Blinking at her, he thought of his sudden realization that supernatural creatures were among him. While some did sound rather deadly, some didn’t. In fact, he was beginning to wonder which of the species were actually good. Perhaps all the good people in his life weren’t people at all type of thing. He wondered if Mira was among the human life forms or not. He wondered if she even knew. Doubtful. Tessa said some knew, but many didn’t. It would certainly be a hard thing to explain. Only reason Iain knew was because he had to figure out for himself.
One thing he liked about Mira was how polite she was. He had not a close clue to some of the activities she did, or he would stare at her in wonder. That wouldn’t be the kind of thing he’d judge for. She just didn’t seem like the type and he would be utterly shocked, to say the least. Mira actually reminded him of his own older sister at times. The way she smiled and looked. The pair could have been siblings walking down the street for any of the strangers nearby. He wouldn’t mind that if it weren’t such an importantly held title for him. She had a brother, as he understood it, so they were more alike than he thought. ”Oh hello Mira. What brings you to a place like this?” Most people asked that question as if it were a bad place. He didn’t mean it like that at all. This was one of his favorite places to walk for both the scene and the memories. He was curious. He didn’t know how else to ask what she was doing there, so he decided to take that. Sometimes he didn’t know what was acceptable to say or not. It all depended on what he read in books. In books, the characters were brave and didn’t care what they said. In most cases, he guessed. So why should he be afraid as long as it was polite?
That did force a small smile tug at his lips, forming into a crooked smile. Ah yes, he was asked that often. Not by those who knew him, but also people who didn’t. In fact, he thought it was ironic- last he and Tessa had been there, that was her exact greeting. Everyone seemed to be so concerned with the temperature outside. Although he supposed she was curled around in her own coat, ”I’m okay. I dislike jackets.” And clothes, but he always got odd looks when he said that, so he bit his tongue. She asked how he had been. If she asked a couple of weeks ago, he would have been a mess. Not sleeping or eating well for days. He was recovering rather well. He was no doctor, but he appeared to be better, didn’t he? ”Much better. How have you been?” He asked, keeping his personal distance, but still closer than he usually was with others.

Iain although him and Mira and not talked much she enjoyed his company when they did happen to bump into one another. Like this for instance, although he didn't really talk much she couldn't really blame him for that. Sometimes people didn't have a lot to say or at least didn't feel comfortable with speaking. Who was she to question it though , she would just smile and enjoy the weather and the peace the day seemed to bring them. Her fingers rubbing at her jacket sleeves for a moment as she looked back to Iain, she remember when they first met. It was kinda like this actually they just bumped into one another and started talking. No pressure free to be how they wanted to be , Mira was curious by nature though so questions were bound to happen. She tried not to ask too many but sometimes she just couldn't be helped , so question would spurt out of her mouth. Iain seemed to take them well which was good , she would have hated it, if it came as an inconvenience to anyone. Iain kinda reminded her of Damien in a way, he was quite as well kept to himself, maybe they could have gotten along if he was still around. Oh well it was pointless to think about now he was gone.
" Oh I just wanted to take a walk you know enjoy the fresh air, and I just found myself here I guess. The music from the church caused me to pause for a few moments. So I guess I was just kinda drawn here , that probably makes me sound crazy though so just ignore that. " Grinning slightly to show that she was teasing , sometimes to just needed to laugh. "What about you Iain what brings you out here?" Not that there was anything wrong with walking around hell she was doing the same thing but turn about is fair play and if he was curious about why she was out well so was she. Her eyes having a playful glint in her eyes. Hearing a bird chirp eyes watching as he dove from a tree and flew into the clear sky above them. The sky always looked beautiful at night. Different colors filling the skies from blues and pinks to mixes of purple. If only she was good at photographer she would probably be taking pictures right now. Oh well it was something to look into if she wanted to purse it. At the moment though she just wanted to be able to enjoy that she was doing.
Her fingers would touch his arm for a moment before pulling it away, trying to see if he ran warmer then normal. Often men did run hotter then woman at least that was what Mira noticed so maybe it was the case for Iain as well. " Alright just make sure you don't get sick or anything cause being sick sucks. But I get the jacket thing, I would prefer not to have one either but I just am way to cold with out them so I just am going to stick with it for now. " Wow she was rambling bad this time, hopefully her company didn't mind that though. She had the bad habit of allowing her thoughts to get away with her though.
" Oh I'm doing alright just taking it day by day , missing my brother now that he is gone. I can only hope he will come back though , or that at least nothing bad has happened to him. I always worry when my siblings to talk with me in a few weeks. I suppose that is normal though. " She wasn't sure if Iain had any family they never really talked about it, not that Mira thought about it. That part of the conversation just never came up. " So i'm getting hungry any possible way you want to grab a bite with me or something my treat of course ? Food was always better when shared in the company of others , at least it was in Mira's mind.
