OVERALL
At first glance, Lewis seemed pretty... perfect. he had the look of a prince, but the inside of a, to put it lightly, a troll. though, there were some redeemable qualities about him; he was fiercely loyal, provided you didn't have something he so desperately wanted for himself. and he wasn't afraid to lend a hand, if you managed to befriend him and were in need of his assistance. on a more negative note, he could be awfully domineering, and wasn't afraid to let his holier-than-thou belief be known to those around him. And he could be a real grade 'A' jerk sometimes, uncaring of other people's feelings, but that was only when he hit an all time low.
But aside from all the negativity that seemed to swarm around him, he was absolutely nothing without his BEST FRIEND THEO. because he was probably the one thing that kept Lewis grounded, and away from every temptation that caused Lewis to want to revert back to being dark. After all, Theo was the one to convert Lewis over to being a vegetarian vampire, and while Lewis does tend to slip from this diet every once and a while, he'd probably become a blood sucking train wreck without the aid of his friend.

OVERALL
Lewis was born to Eleanor and Andrew Carella, on the morning of April 19th, 1759. Yes, how fortunate for him to have his birthday be exactly sixteen years prior to the outbreak of the American Revolution. It wasn't something he was entirely proud of, being passed up because America did want to be England's whipping boy. But whatever.
He had a pretty average childhood, as average as a 1700's childhood could be, at least. His father was a die-hard redcoat who seemed to love King George to pieces, so it was obvious where he stood, come Lexington and Concord.
Lewis grew up hearing the praise of England, and all of her rich splendor. And his father was pretty high ranked in the King's Militia, so they certainly weren't tight on funds. But while his father was so adamant about defending England's hold on the colonies, his mother was a daughter of independence. This sparked an endless amount of arguing and verbal debates in their small household, with Lewis more often than not siding with his father on the matter at hand.
When Lewis was nine, his mother gave birth to his baby brother, Jackson. And boy, Lewis was immediately spiteful. He grew up, sort of, as the only child, to be spoiled by both mother and father - and now, insert this squealing bundle of dirty diapers and mucous, that his parents called "a bundle of joy", and Lewis was, what, expected to be the older brother? LIKE HELL.
Lewis made no effort to conceal his disdain for his new sibling, though Lewis had the common courtesy to wait until Jackson was able to walk and talk before he started the iconic elder sibling bullying. And Lewis was terrible. He'd steal toys, steal food, push poor little Jackson to the ground, and adamantly deny everything, when Jackson went crying to their mother. Needless to say, Lewis spent a great deal of time in the 'time out corner' - which only added fuel to the fire that was his envious hatred of his baby sibling, who seemed to be the golden child in their parents' eyes.
Lewis was eighteen when the fighting broke out, and he was already anxious to enlist, though he wanted to enlist for all the wrong reasons. He did not care if England retained control over the colonies, he did not care that America deserved to be truly known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. No. He wanted to see how badly the suffering could get.
And boy, did he see it. He made it pretty far in the war, as far as revolution survival went - he had lasted a lot longer that many of his comrades that served with him, both with and against.
He had even met a sweetheart, during that time. She was a nurse that had been tending to soldier's wounds, and to him, they immediately hit it off. They began exchanging letters, trinkets, odds and end, that sort of thing. And, oddly enough, Lewis was genuinely fond of her. Of course, as a soldier, he had duties, and soon enough, he was called back to fight.
It was April 19th, 1782 when he was finally struck down. Happy birthday, Lewey-boy, for your present, go get a bayonet shoved through your gut, hope it fits!
He was left behind, on the blood stained battlefield where hundreds of others lay dead and/or dying. Left behind and slowly feeling the life drain from him, when she appeared. At first, he just assumed he had died and gone tohellheaven, because she was by far the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. This belief, however, was struck down when she sank her teeth into his neck.
And from their on, he had been brought back into this crazy, mixed up world, as a vampire. And for the longest time, he was thrilled, feeding off humans and causing death and trouble wherever he happened to drop his bags. But he kept moving on, from one place to the next, he even dallied in the civil war for a few battles before defecting and continuing his never ending journey.
Until he met Theo, Grace, and whoever else happened to be thrown into that mix. Then he settled in Manuka.
What fun.
