OVERALL
Jessie is probably the sweetest girl you'll ever meet, if you could ever manage to get past her awkward timidity and shyness. But to say she comes with little baggage would be a fledgling white lie - she's the girl that had almost everything 'bad' happen to her, yet still remains hopeful about her future. She's usually pretty quiet, something that gets her referred to as depressed or melancholic - but that's even farther from the truth. In reality, she's a very happy person, unwilling to give up, or give in, in a sense. But she was one of those people who would sooner help others, if there was anything she could do, of course - rather than help herself. She's pretty considerate ;u;.
"Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." Would probably be the absolute best way to describe her. She's one of those silent girls who have never had a real boyfriend ( the one she 'had' was just using her for information, since her dad was a cop.), been in a relationship - she really hasn't even kissed a boy, unless that one time in kindergarten counts, but even then she didn't have the slightest idea what was going on, or what they were doing. She's about as cliche as a girl that fell right out of a Taylor Swift song; daydreaming and wishing for a 'knight' on a white horse to come swooping in to save her from her perpetual shyness.
Alright, so she's a dreamer.

OVERALL
Jessica was born to Henry and Adella Torres, the youngest of four children. Her father was a police officer for the local department, and her mother was a nurse at the local hospital. From the very start, it was clear who was 'ranked' where in the family; Jessica was the baby, Jamie was the golden son, and that left Scott and Andrew somewhere in the awkward middle.
Jessica was always closest to Andrew; he was always the one she ran too for help, and he was always the one that protected her when she got scared. This wasn't to say she wasn't close to Jamie or Scott - but Scott was always busy with his friends, and Jamie was already leaving for college by the time Jessica got old enough to do anything. Andrew was always home, though - he'd play games with her, tell her stories, and she grew to love the time spent with her older brother. He walked her to school, he'd pick her up and take her for ice cream, everything seemed perfect.
When Jessica was 12, she was picked up from school early by Andrew, who told her that they needed to get home right away, though he wouldn't tell her why. But once they got there, and she saw both her mother and father, who never cried, crying, she knew something bad had happened. As soon as she got there, her mother pulled her close, and told her that everything was going to be alright, but Jamie wasn't going to be coming home for the holidays. She found out later, after things appeared to have settled down, that he had elected to drive home with his girlfriend from college, and the two had gotten into a car accident.
They, and the rest of their family and friends, attended Jamie's funeral in stunned silence, everyone made a speech about what a promising life he should have led, and how everything was lined up for him; but no one wanted to talk about who -or what- he left behind. A grief-stricken mother, a father who had grown more controlling of his remaining children, two brothers who had always looked up to him, and a kid sister who still didn't want to believe he wasn't ever coming back.
And for a while after, things actually seemed to be getting better. Her mother didn't cry as much, Her father seemed to be mellowing out again...
Jessica was 18 when her father was killed. The risk of being a cop, she guessed. He had gotten a call for an armed robbery of a convenient store on the other side of town. Jessica, as good as she was, had become friends with a guy who came from the absolute wrong side of the proverbial train tracks; but while he was using her for information, she thought he genuinely cared about her. On the night of the robbery, Jessica slipped up and told him that her father would be one of the three on patrol - and he figured that with only one to three cops to deal with, the robbery would be a piece of cake. So, he went through with it, and when her father was the one to respond to the call, he was the one that ended up getting shot.
And two weeks later, the guy had been taken into custody.
And her mother fell back into a grief-stricken stupor. They attended their father's funeral with the same amount of 'gusto' that they had with Jamie's, and they repeated the process. By this time, though, Jessica had run to Andrew with all that had happened, and while he continuously told her that it wasn't her fault, and how could she have known what he was planning, Jessica couldn't shake the feeling that her father's death had been her fault.
I guess the pressure got to Andrew too, because he enlisted in the army immediately after, and was deployed for active duty. He was on tour for a year before they got the call that he was coming home, that he was safe - but that was just the problem. There were records of him boarding the flight home, but... he never came home. Jessica was 19 by now, and she was unwilling to stay home while her mother took out her grief on whatever man she could find; bringing them home and kicking them out the next day. She didn't want to stay, and live not knowing what happened to Andrew - So she and Scott packed up what little they had, and left.
