cause the tide is high and its rising still and i don't wanna see it at my windowsill
Normal.
Though five years have passed for the former huntress, it still struck Rue as to how normal her life actually was now. Once upon a time, it had been days and nights of gearing up, making sure that the her guns were loaded and her knives sharpened, and that her shoes were in no danger of suddenly having a heel or sole loose. It had only been her and her alone, Rue becoming the only person to look after, which was herself. Her friends were never in danger because she made none, except her fellow hunters, It was safer to find companionship in those that knew how to protect themselves, and who knew how to handle a gun without blowing their own heads off. Back in those days, the brunette hardly slept without danger looming over her. She had lost count of the number of times the supernatural broke into her house for revenge, only to run home whimpering or have a knife in their backs. Her senses had always been on high alert, and her name grew to be feared among the supernatural, woe betide them if they were malicious.
Never did she believe that she would end up having a son, and quitting her profession altogether. Never did she believe that she would end up strolling through a park holding his hand and buying him ice cream, and basically living a normal life. A normal life of waking Leo up for kindergarten and making his breakfast, and then teaching the other kids at the school itself. It was indeed a far cry from what she did, and as much as Rue missed killing evil, she did appreciate and enjoyed the freedom of not needing to hunt. She felt that Sam and the rest of the hunters that she knew would be able to save those in danger without her, they were skilled people after all. Even if Sam had a habit of charging into battle with disregard of his own life.
The day was bright as she strolled through the park with her son. Leo's tiny hand clung to hers possessively, his face splattered his ice cream. A tut of disapproval escaped Rue's lips as she looked down at him, shaking her head. The boy, sensing his mother's disapproval, looked up at her, and grinned. Knowing full well that she could never stay mad at him, the brunette returned his grin and ushered him towards the nearby bench, picking him up and plonking him down. Magically producing a napkin from her pocket, Rue began wiping his face admist his loud protests. "What, no, shush, you've got ice cream all over your face. Stop moving!" she tutted. Rue was struggling to keep her language at a minimum level, it was difficult not to as she had been swearing all these years while she was hunting. It was hard to not screech and curse whenever a vampire bit you, it hurt like hell, and it became a habit for her. With Leo around however, the brunette had indeed taken it down a notch with the profanity. She didn't want her son going around cussing others, it was a horrible image on her part. How did playing the role of a good mother become part of her life, she would never really understand why.
After rounds of squashing him flat and holding him down, Leo's face was finally clean. Rue leaned back on the bench, tired but happy. Motherhood was a bitch, but it was lovely all the same. She gazed at her son as he continued to eat his ice cream, and knew full well that she would protect him at the cost of her own life. No one was allowed to touch him, but her. A fierce glint appeared in her grey eyes, and she glanced around the park, almost challengingly, waiting for someone, or anyone, to try shit with her.
The glare disappeared when she caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance. Rue could recognize Sidda's ginger hair immediately through the throng of people around the park, and she wasted no time in waving the other woman over. Sidda was the one of the brunette's close friends ever since she gave up hunting, and the other woman made her feel normal, preventing her from jumping back into the life of killing and hunting the supernatural. Despite Sidda's proudness and independence, Rue found out that she actually enjoyed her company all the same. They had quite a fair bit in common, except that Sidda lacked knowledge of the supernatural world, but it didn't matter to Rue. She wanted to keep it that way, and prevent Sidda from finding out anything that could endanger her own life and her son's.
"Sidda," Rue greeted her, a dainty meep of 'Auntie Sidda' from Leo instead in greeting. "I thought our playdate was tomorrow."

[/IMG] coming back, i'm coming back Sidda could hardly believe how beautiful the weather was today. After months of bitter wind and almost freezing temperatures, today seemed downright gorgeous. It was a downright gift, if Sidda wanted to be perfectly honest. There were very few days this early in spring that were nice like this and most times when they did exist, it was only for a short amount of time. She wanted to make the absolute most of today, especially because she felt like Gav had been cooped up inside too long. He wasnt a huge fan of cold weather Sidda said it was because of the Texan blood in him so he rarely wanted to go out if he had to bundle up.
Today was perfect weather though, and she knew she needed to take advantage of it. Originally, Sidda was supposed to work. She had to work most days, after all. But she had gotten one of her friends to switch shifts with her after Sidda explained how important it was for her to take her son to the park today, her friend had had little problem doing it. After all, there was very few times where Sidda ever asked that of anyone. On a whole, she did her best about going to work when she needed to be there and even tried to pick up extra shifts when she could. For her to ask meant it was for a very important reason.
Once that was all settled, she got Gavin dressed and into the car so they could go. It was quite an amazing feat considering the fact that he hadnt quit bouncing from excitement the moment Sidda told him where they were going. The park was one of his most favorite places in the world so naturally he couldnt wait to get there. The entire drive there he couldnt stop asking if they were there yet. It seemed that he had forgotten it was a twenty-minute drive and not a five second one. Sidda wouldve loved to live closer to the park so she could take him more often but the park was in the richer part of town. There was no way she couldve ever afforded one of these places.
The length of the drive didnt seem to matter by the time they got there though. Gavin practically flew out of the car the moment she stopped and she had to remind him he wasnt going anywhere without holding her hand. She didnt trust other people in the park; Sidda had always been paranoid that way. She wanted Gavin in her sight at all times and preferably right by her side. There were sometimes when she broke that rule, though it was mainly when Gavin went to play on the playground and she wasnt sitting that far away from him. Eventually, Sidda would have to loosen the reigns some, but for now, he was still her baby boy.
They were on their way to said playground when Sidda saw someone waving in their direction. A grew on Siddas face when she realized it and she pointed the woman out to Gavin, who had a similar reaction. Rue was probably Siddas best friend. It was hard to find someone who understood what it was like to be a single mother and she was lucky in the respect that she had found Rue. Both their sons got along really well too, considering they were about the same age. All around, it was a good situation for everyone.
Hey! Sidda greeted when they were within speaking range. She lightly ruffled Leos hair and then looked back at Rue. Yeah, it was, Sidda said, nodding slightly. I was actually going to call you to see if we could switch it to today. I got out of work today so I could take Gavin to the park. She glanced down at his mop of dark brown hair before continuing This little monkey though, was impatient. He wanted me to wait until we got to the playground to call. It probably wouldve killed him if he had had to wait five extra minutes to get to the playground.
Already, he was starting to pull at her hand, exasperated with the fact that his mom had stopped. They were so close and he just wanted to be there already. Sidda lightly tickled under his arm, which caused him to temporarily forget his annoyance at the delay. Do you guys want to wander over the playground with us? I think Gavs ready to go by himself if I dont hurry up. She couldnt blame him, of course. The kid just really wanted to swing while he had the opportunity.

cause the tide is high and its rising still and i don't wanna see it at my windowsill
As Sidda finally noticed her and began making her way over, towing her adorable son beside her, Rue was reminded again on what she had given up. She was not allowed to play the role of the big, badass hunter she once was, unfeeling and calculating, ready to beat up whatsoever creature that came her way. Sidda would no doubt receive the shock of her life if she began talking about decapitating the heads of vampires, and probably scar both Gavin and Leo for the rest of eternity. Perhaps it would be more on the latter, and more of Sidda thinking her batshit crazy, Rue had made it a point to always remember that her friend was oblivious to the supernatural world and the dangers around her. She had heard of Holden being involved with Sidda, or rather, they knew each other and all; don't wanna jump to conclusions yet, but she wondered when he would spill his own nocturnal duties to her, if he was willing to and if they were that close. She'd leave it to him to tell her himself, but Rue hoped that Holden wouldn't mention her name and former job for the time being.
"Well, Leo is no better." grumbled the brunette half-heartedly, trying to complain, but her son's impish grin melted whatsoever sternness that she had tried to accumulate within herself, and her gruff voice came out dripping with fondness and love. "It's a good thing I'm here then. Kindergarten ends early for the both of us, and Leo wanted ice cream, and since he was already going to get himself splattered over-" Her grey eyes flickered towards him, shooting him a playful stinkeye. "-it wouldn't make much of a difference if we went to the playground today. But now that we are here, we might as well make it happen. Come on, Leo." The last part was directed towards her son, and he hopped down from seat. Rue rose as well, walking over and sliding Sidda's arm in hers, but not before tousling Gavin's hair in greeting. Proceeding to half drag the both of them towards the playground, and as if on cue, seeing that he was finally going to get the entertainment that he longed for, Leo's short, stubby legs half-tottered and half-sprintered towards the nearby playground, Gavin not too far behind him.
"He is such a handful sometimes." Rue said, when the two single mothers had settled down on a nearby bench, close enough for them to keep sharp eagle eyes on their two sons. Should anything happen to them, they would be close enough nearby to pull their children out of harm's way, should it come down to that. Though it wasn't something Rue wanted to think too much about, let alone voice it out just in case she accidentally jinxed them, Manuka was not as safe as it used to be. Attacks could happen anytime, and they did not care on whether it was broad daylight or not. The huntress wondered if she would be able to protect all four of them, herself included, but she knew that if it came down to hers of Sidda's life, the former would be picked with no hesitation. Leo would be safe with Sidda, and her friend would be alright too if she managed to save them all in the end, so everything was cool. "I don't even know how I can put up with such a rascal, and you too." Rue added when the two boys began wrestling each other, distracting themselves momentarily from the playground and engaging themselves in a playfight. It reminded her of kittens.
"Seen Holden around lately?" She winked at Sidda. The question spoke volumes, and she did not need to elaborate further on it, leaving it to her friend to interpret her ambiguous question herself.

[/IMG] coming back, i'm coming back In all honesty, Sidda had thought that her time of having a social life was over once Gavin was born. She loved the little tyke with all her heart, don’t get her wrong, and she wouldn’t change a thing about how her life was now. The mother couldn’t even begin to imagine what her life would be like without her son and she didn’t want to either. But it didn’t change the fact that raising her son and providing for him took up a majority of Sidda’s time. She rarely had the time to take care of herself most nights and she had kind of assumed that she’d never have time to have a life outside of being a mother.
She had never expected to have someone in her life that understood exactly what she was going through and in that respect, Rue was a godsend. Sidda would have no clue what to do without her friend in her life. Rue was the one who kept Sidda sane when she felt like she was going in a hundred different directions and the one who reassure Sidda that she was a good mother, even after having arguments in the grocery store with individuals who thought otherwise. Part of Sidda was afraid that she would’ve fallen apart a long time ago without her best friend there to help her out.
Not to mention, their sons were the greatest of friends. Sidda couldn’t help but think Leo was the closest thing Gavin would ever have to a sibling. One of the young mother’s fears had always been that her son would grow up alone because she couldn’t ever see herself having more kids. It was a shame, because her son was a sweetheart and would’ve made a good brother. But he had Leo, which made Sidda feel slightly less guilty. Gavin loved spending time with Leo and they got along fabulously. It just went to show how good the Solises fit into their lives.
Sidda let Rue link their arms and followed her to the playground, keeping a sharp eye on their sons as they ran ahead. She knew nothing bad was going to happen to either boy while both over protective moms were here, but it still didn’t stop Sidda from worrying. She was pretty sure she was going to be an over protective mom for the rest of Gavin’s life, whether he liked it or not. Sidda couldn’t help it, not when her son was the most important person in her life. He’d understand one day, hopefully. “They’re both scamps, huh?” Sidda agreed, a smile on her face as she watched the two boys play wrestle. “But it certainly makes our jobs more interesting.”
The mother had been so distracted by the boys that her friend’s next question caught her entirely off guard. Sidda felt her cheeks start to redden slightly before she told herself she was being ridiculous and brushed the feeling off. She had told Rue about the social workers that had showed up at her house unexpectedly. Sidda had been a wreck over the whole thing, considering the fact that she thought she was a pretty decent mother. Having child services show up had never been something she thought would happen. That was supposed to happen to parents who abused or neglected their kids, not parents who gave everything for their child.
And of course, Sidda had told Rue how cute the one social worker, Holden, had been. Sure, it was something stupid to think, but it had been Sidda’s first reaction upon seeing him at her door. Even though she said she didn’t want to ever have a relationship again, it didn’t mean she couldn’t appreciate, right? Add in the fact that Holden had been wonderful with Gavin, and Sidda had built this picture of Holden being a gigantic sweetheart in her head. “He’s come by a couple of times. Routine check ups and all that.” It had been kind of strange, having Holden suddenly thrust into her and Gavin’s lives, but she couldn’t necessarily say it was a bad thing even if circumstances weren’t great. “Gavin’s really started to warm up to him.” Which was unusual, of course, since it always took her son forever to accept strangers.

cause the tide is high and its rising still and i don't wanna see it at my windowsill
Though the Solises had never been complete extroverted social butterflies, Rue had always drew the border from becoming one. She had always been on neutral grounds, unable to be classified as either an introvert or an extrovert, but rather, an ambivert. Even after Leo had been born, she still kept on touch with her fellow hunters, and even managed to make a few friends outside her prime, Sidda included. Most of them were single mothers like herself, after she found out that she could easily click with them. Being a teacher at the local kindergarten thought you many things and enabled you to meet many people. Fortunately, Leo had inherited most of her qualities as a person. There were times when she noticed him going off on his own and watching the world go by, but he would always return to his circle of friends. He got along splendidly with most of the kids, and took no bullshit from those who didn't. For a five year old child, he was pretty firm, and Rue knew if his grandfather was still alive, he would be proud. It helped that Leo had Gavin to balance him out as well, and seeing how well the two boys got along never failed to make Rue smile.
Having Sidda as one of her best friends was one of the main reasons why the huntress wasn't tossing herself back into the supernatural world. The redhead kept her own head screwed on, and reminded her over and over again on why she had given up her guns in the first place. While Sidda needed her to stay sane, Rue needed her to keep reminding her. She would be unable to help her friend any longer if she picked up hunting again. Her time would be consumed with worrying about Leo and shooting werewolves, and the more enemies she made, the more she would be putting her son at risk. Rue couldn't have that risk hanging over her head, especially not when it came to matters of her son.
"Neither of us asked for this job," she laughed, watching the two boys. Leo seemed to be having the upper hand, spinning Gavin round and round, making the both of them dizzy. "What the- Leo, get off him!" she squawked when Leo managed to wrestle Gavin to the ground and was cheerfully sitting on him. She hadn't need to yell though, because as soon as her son had plonked his butt down, he was already up and running again, Gavin hot on his heels for revenge. With a relieved sigh, she slumped back onto the bench. Boys and their weird tendencies. The last thing she wanted though, was her son to grow up into a bully. Though there was no reason for him to become so, especially with a mother like her, she was still paranoid. She would be a failure of a mother if he ever did. That was why she had Sidda. That was why they had each other.
A broad grin appeared on Rue's lips at the other mother's blush at her question. Ohh Sidda. Yes, she had told Rue about the meddling social workers. One of them, George, she remembered, had sounded like a dick. Stoic people were usually dicks. But the other, Holden, had rang bells in her mind. She had hunted with him many times, and to have him a social worker that Sidda found cute, well, she didn't have much to comment about that. Holden wasn't bad looking, he was actually hot. But Sidda didn't know that Rue knew Holden as a fellow hunter, instead of a social worker. She had to be careful with that. Even so, to have social workers showing up on the ginger's doorstep was perplexing. Sidda was a wonderful mother, there was simply no need for that. It was ridiculous.
"Aren't you lucky to have a cutie do 'routine check-ups' on you every now and then." She waggled her eyebrows at Sidda. "The next thing you're gonna tell me is that you two will be having dinner with each other tomorrow."

Post by SIDDA LEE MARSON on Jun 26, 2013 21:24:04 GMT
[/IMG] coming back, i'm coming back Sidda loved getting to see her son interact with other kids. It was a very rare sight, considering the fact that she barely got the chance to see him during the day. She never had the ability to go in and volunteer in his kindergarten class nor could she ever go to his school functions, which always made her feel like an awful mother. But it was what happened when you had to work all the time. Still, she loved when she could see Gavin playing with Leo. It showed her how great of a kid he was when he actually started to warm up to people, because most of the time when Gav played, it was by himself with his own imagination.
She found herself laughing as Leo twirled himself and Gavin around and then tackled him to the ground. Leo certainly was a handful and Rue was a saint for being able to put up with him. Sidda had always been lucky in the regard that Gav was pretty mild mannered and mostly listened to what she told him to do. “Oh don’t worry about it. It’s good for Gavin,” she told Rue, though within a matter of moments both boys were off and running to the next activity. They really were crazy together, those two. At least Gavin would sleep well tonight.
“Rue, you’re impossible!” Sidda complained with a laugh at the further mention of Holden. The young mother was constantly talking about how her and Rue’s relationship was really beneficial for their boys. It gave them a friend they could grow up with and in Gavin’s case, another authority figure to look up to that wasn’t his mom or his kindergarten teacher. Those were two things that Sidda would’ve never been able to provide on her own, as much as she tried to do what was right for Gav. He needed people he could trust and care for that were outside of his immediate family or otherwise Sidda was afraid he’d grow up extremely introverted and antisocial.
She rarely ever mentioned how beneficial being friends with Rue was to her. Yeah, she admitted that Rue was the one Sidda turned to when she needed to be reminded that she was still a sane individual in an insane world, but it was more than that. Rue and her were in the same boat, seeing as how they both were young, single mothers who had been responsible for another life way too early in their own. Hell, when Sidda had had Gavin, she could barely call herself an adult. Legally, she might’ve been one, but mentally, Sidda had still felt like a child in many ways. She hadn’t had to deal with real world problems yet, like finding a job and paying bills and acting like she had her life completely put together. Having Gavin had caused her to grow up quickly, whether she had been ready to or not.
But when Sidda was around Rue, she got a chance to act like a gossipy early 20 something girl with her best friend. Immature? Maybe. But Sidda loved the chance to be able to revert back to that stage every now and again. It was a nice break from being a mommy pretty much 24/7. “The state thinks I’m an unfit mother. That’s the entire reason he’s there. I highly doubt that’s the kind of girl he’d ever think about taking to dinner.” Not that Sidda thought about that. Or at least, she told herself that she shouldn’t. It was dumb, entertaining that thought. Besides, Sidda would’ve said no anyways, because she didn’t date. It was too much for Gavin. She couldn’t have guys in and out of Gav’s life like that.

cause the tide is high and its rising still and i don't wanna see it at my windowsill
Maybe, just maybe, if she spent enough time with Sidda, Rue would be able to finally get away from the supernatural world after all. Of course she would always be a hunter, nothing could change that, and there were people like Cason and Sam to constantly remind her of what she was, but just maybe. Maybe if she put in the effort, she could stop thinking of picking up her guns again. They were hidden underneath her floorboards, but the planks were not nailed as a precaution. In the span of five years, Rue had managed to forget most of the evil beings that she had killed. It even included one particular notorious faerie who had always escaped her grasp whenever she tried to hunt him down. Little by little, the brunette was still putting her hunting days behind her. Sidda would freak at the thought of her best friend being a damn good killer, and Rue was determined to keep it secret as long as possible. Holden better keep that sexy mouth of his shut too, or he was screwed, she would guarantee that. It would be wrong to break Sidda's innocence, like hell Rue was going to allow that shit to happen now.
Leo had always been a bit of a handful, but the young mother still adored him regardless. He was far from spoiled though, the brunette never let him get away with things, especially when it was his fault. Timeout corners and grounding him were punishments whenever he misbehaved, and they always worked. Rue didn't believe in beating the crap out of him, and taking away his privileges seemed to be a more effective method. Sidda was lucky that Gavin was a bit more mild and quiet. Leo was slightly more energetic and more outgoing but the other boy balanced him out nicely from ever going too ahead of himself. They were just perfect, and Rue loved how they got along so well. It was almost magical.
A mischievous cackle escaped the mother's lips at Sidda whining at her about Holden. Rue often spoke of her friend to the ginger headed woman just to remind her that Holden was still single and ready to mingle. She avoided the part where Holden was a fellow hunter of course, but the brunette feared that one day she might just slip and give away his secret. But she had to constantly remind her best friend and boost her confidence. Holden was a great catch, and he sounded like a good enough guy for Sidda. She wanted the best for her best friend, and Holden could provide the stability that she needed in her life. Although Rue knew that Sidda already had her, the brunette felt like the other woman was going to need more than that in the years to come. Especially once Gavin started to really grow up.
But that aside for now, Rue was going to continue poking at the redhead about Holden. She felt like a typical, giggly mom at that very moment, and did want to smack herself for it, but it was fun doing it with Sidda. There was no one else she would ever do it with though, her cool, laidback personality absolutely refused. "Fuck that, you're a great mom." Rue said firmly. "They just think so because you're raising Gavin alone. Ack, if that's the case, they might start paying me visits too.`" She stuck her tongue out at the last statement, and vowed that if any social worker started banging on her door, she was going to start whacking them with a baseball bat.
"Oh, honey, you'll be surprised." Rue waggled her eyebrows again. "Routine check-ups, pah. He's making them an excuse just to see you." She hooted. "I wouldn't mind a hottie like that to swing by anytime. He can do my bushes too while he's at it." Silly, perverted Rue, but that was what made her entertaining most of the time. She said whatever she wanted, and yes, that included sexual innuendos.
