Generally, he was on the other side of the building from the sickly boy, up at the crack of dawn and coming into work, yes he would peek into the room to see the sleeping boy, but he would never wake him. The rest of the day before his break would drag, and his skin would tingle with the thought that ... he was just in the other room. He could go and see him at any instant, but he couldn't. Not while he was working. All the paperwork was so monotonous, and Shay didn't want to be hanging around doing something so pointless, but it was a must.
Checking over records for patients, seeing which ones needed to come in after some dangerous surgeries for check ups. Which was pretty much where he was headed now. Back into the small office which he had in the hospital, mostly for seeing patients, a chair and a computer near and on his desk. The warlock generally preferred doing his paperwork by hand, which he was supposed to be doing once he got into his office. Signing papers, death certificates and birth certificates, surgeries and people getting all kinds of things in their bodies that needed a bit of work while removing.
He nodded to a nurse on his way down the busy corridor which led to the small office, in his mind counting all the things he'd need to get done, all the potions which he had and had not used. Hid fingers shook a little in frustration as he ran them through his thick hair, eyeing his watch until his break. Shay barely got any breaks, which meant that he didn't have much time for food in the day, he didn't even need toilet breaks usually, because he was just so distracted and into his work. You could see it on his face, the fatigue in his violet eyes, and seriously, he had not been expecting this when he had decided that he wanted to be a doctor. He had wanted to save lives, not feel like a dead man walking as he did almost everyday.
Looking at him you might say he looked somewhat sickly. His cheekbones more prominent of the little meat on his bones, but they were covered in two day stubble. He just didn't have the energy to shave in the morning. He would go to work, go see Calan, maybe eat something when he remembered he had to, and head home to pass out. That was hardly a life he wanted, but it was one that he had to lead. At least for now. A slow sigh escaped his lips as he shrugged his white coat off, rolling up the sleeves to his shirt and opened the door to his office, not facing in as he hung it up on the door, and then turned.
Shay's eyes widened a little at the sight of an IV drip, and the skinny body and jet black hair that accompanied it. The fight made his heart skip a beat, and he looked at Calan, having made himself comfortable in his office. "Calan ..." He looked at him; yes he wanted to see him, but the boy was not supposed to be out of bed. Concern filled his features, because all he wanted was for Calan to be better. His heart lurched a little at the sight of him out of the hospital bed, the happiness that was within him was so great, that it made him crack a smile. "As happy as I am seeing you out and about ... you're not supposed to be here." He said softly, running a hand over his face. "Does anyone know you're here?" He didn't want all the nurses sending out a search party for the boy.

in due time, All in due time, see the world through different eyes. All in due time, shadows will give way, give way to light.
It was the last straw. He was finally given more freedoms as the days went on but one thing he wasn’t allowed to do was leave his room. Even being moved from a quarantine room, to one a little less sanitary (although hospitals were very sanitary all together) Clan felt he was ready to at least take a walk somewhere. His doctor said that it might be dangerous for him to walk alone around the hospital. Calan could only laugh and questioned if the old woman in the wheel chair beside him would knife him. He found it funny, but his doctor didn’t. Old people needed to grow some humor. For the old woman who was staying in the room beside him, he’d actually befriend such a kind woman. When he had no one around, he’d go over and sit with her, talking about her life and his own. It was comforting.
Her family was too busy to come and see her as often as she would have liked. Calan honestly felt bad for her, here he was bitching all the time but not getting to do what he wanted, and this woman didn’t even have anyone to talk to. He was stuck in the hospital for another two weeks at least, and he made a silent vow to talk to her every single day. He did so for the first few days before his little rebellion and he ended up making something for Shay. The old woman taught him how to knit, really at first Calan thought it was boring but it was a fun thing to put your mind too. At least he could say he learned to knit while keeping company to an elderly woman. Although it was getting warmer outside, the white scarf he made the male was going to be a current gift. Calan didn’t want to wait and no one was going to tell him he couldn’t walk all the way to see the male. Fuck that.
When his doctor was making rounds, the boy left a little note on his door and smirked, grabbing his IV pole he said goodbye to the elderly woman who wished him good luck and told him she’d cover for him. He thought that was awesome, at any age the idea of rebelling was still fresh in everyone’s mind. He tugged his black sweat pants up that matched his light grey hoodie and began to walk down the hall. Searching for his loves office. He’d snuck into that office many times, but this time he couldn’t exactly crawl on his hands and knees like he was so use to doing. No instead he would just well walk in! Seemed logically right? Seemed like something that was possible! Calan groaned softly as he opened the door and made his way inside. Thankfully for the boy, no one was around, so he quickly ran inside the office and shut the door.
His office was a bit messy, but Calan couldn’t find any blame to place on the male. He was busy and it wasn’t like it was a total pigsty. Here and there were unimportant things the boy put away, falling into that wife mode he missed so much. Sometimes he wished Shay understood he didn’t do these things because he felt like it was his job, but he did so because he wanted too. Taking care of someone meant a lot to the boy. All his life Calan was catered too, he knew what it was like to get that attention and that love and to him, Shay was just the person who deserved such attention. The boy sat down in his chair and spun around a little bit, waiting in silence for the male to return.
”Calan…” The boy spun around and grinned from ear to ear upon hearing his name, the grin slowly turned into a smirk at the male’s next string of words. “I’m rebelling against the man. And I have a gift for you.” He murmured and stood up slowly, waddling over to the doctor. Slowly he slipped the white scarf around his neck and beamed. “Getting warmer, I know! But Kat, the old woman beside me, she taught me how to knit. I’ve been spending time with her. She’s fun.” Slowly on his toes, the boy moved to kiss the doctor happily on the mouth. He didn’t seem to mad, which was good! Hopefully he wouldn’t order him to go back to his room. However, knowing Shay the doctor in him might over take the lover. Perhaps more kisses would make the older male forget he was supposed to be in bed? Sounded like a good idea. Calan grinned and began to attack the doctor with kisses.

Yet, it always took him by surprise for some reason, though the warlock knew he should have been expecting it. Never the less, Calan knew that there were few things that Shay could say no to, especially when he knew that something was making him unhappy, even though it was what was best for him. It was sometimes really hard for Shay to deal with Calan, and make him do the right thing when his eyes were so lit up at the sight of the doctor, and he looked so happy to be there. Maybe a few minutes out of bed won't hurt, and if something happen's, well, Shay's a doctor. "Rebelling is very much against your better judgement. Do you never listen to what doctors tell you?" Shay asked, hoping to put some sense into the younger male, but at the word 'gift', Shay quirked an eyebrow.
He watched carefully as Calan approached, feeling like he would break at any moment, and the next thing he knew he had arms around his neck, and something soft against his skin. Glancing down at the white scarf, Shay smiled brightly at the explanation, chuckling softly. "Ah, it's good to be making friends." Shay was genuinely happy that Calan wasn't so lonely in his hospital bed, as some patients were very much nicer than others. "I don't treat Kat, so I don't really know who she is." He smiles softly, but it didn't matter that he didn't know her as long as Calan was happy. Or well, as happy as anyone could be at a hospital. However, before the warlock could express his appreciation for the gift, Calan's lips were on his, soft and familiar and it actually brought a sigh out of Shay. The truth was, he had missed Calan. So much that sometimes the empty apartment was unbearable. He missed his touches and his kisses and simply having him there, sleeping beside him. Shay had never realised how much he needed it until after it was gone.
So, he kisses back slowly and softly, bringing a hand onto the boys cheek carefully, as if he were made of glass before pulling back, violet eyes meeting brown. "Thank you for my gift. It's lovely." He smiled with a small nod, but the heavy feeling that Calan was putting too much strain on his heart was pulling at Shay, which meant that it was not good to speed it up. He took a step back and eyed the boy. "How are you feeling?" The question might have sounded like one that any doctor would ask, but underlying it were tones of sheer concern because after an operation as massive as Calan's, he was bound to be weak, and tired quickly and it wasn't good to put strain on the new organ just in case his body rejected it. "You should sit down." Shay put his hands on the boys shoulders and walks him to the sofa. "You can sit here for a minute before I need to walk you back to your room." The doctor told him as a compromise, attempting to meet him in the middle even though Calan was the most stubborn person he knew.
Shay moves to sit next to him rather than behind his desk, a fond smile on his face as he observed the boy. "You look better than you did a week ago." This comment was very doctor like, because Calan's skin was looking better, and he didn't look so pale, like there was actual blood in his cheeks. He moved a hand to run through his own short strands of hair, his chin dusted with stubble. "But you can't always just go wherever you please Calan ..." It was one of Shay's lectures, but he couldn't help it if Calan didn't see reason. That his actions may hinder his recovery time and that he would be in the hospital for even longer, which is something he knew for a fact Calan would hate. "If you overwork your heart then your recovery time will be longer, and I know you don't want to stay in the hospital for longer than you have to." His vouce was soft, not mad, because he knew that reasoning with Calan worked much better than shouting at him. Shay was just glad Calan was getting better.

in due time, All in due time, see the world through different eyes. All in due time, shadows will give way, give way to light.
Calan couldn’t help but to roll his eyes a little bit. He was a teenager, it was in his blood to rebel as well as want to have sex with his lover every night and day. He moved to peck the older males lips a little bit before answering. “Well... I mean you know you love my stubborn side.” He tried to flash a smile, and did so but included a few giggles here and there. He took a moment to look over his lover, not really having any time to actually touch him or kiss him was doing it’s toll. He actually craved the older male like he was an addiction. Wanting to be with him at all times, every second of everyday. It was almost maddening for him. He pressed even more kisses on the male’s lips and tried to go a bit deeper, really wanting to taste his lover before he was pushed away and told no.
“She makes being here more bearable.” He admitted honestly. “She’s funny and just a nice lady.” With a thoughtful smile the boy moved to attack him again with kisses. At eighteen years of age, Calan’s mind was more directed at the physical things you could do in a relationship. Now, that wasn’t saying that was all the boy thought about, but it did consume most of this brain. Hormones could be a bitch sometime. With a wide grin, he played with the scarf around the male’s neck. A proud smile as well as feeling engulfed his whole being. “You’ll have to keep it safe until winter rolls around again. It’s been chilly, or so says mother.” She was really his only other visitor. At first it bummed him out that no one else in his family wanted to see him, but he just stopped caring about it all together once Shay and his mother distracted him.
Being ushered to sit down wasn’t very surprising. He did feel like he needed to sit down once a strong sense of being dizzy came over him but he got over it quickly and didn’t feel like mentioning it, less it make the warlock worry even more. “I feel restless.” He grumbled honestly. “I miss our bed. I miss my dogs, I miss cooking for you, and I just miss you in general.” The firetamer leaned into the older male and closed his eyes a bit, taking in a deep breath before smiling. “I miss my mother too. I guess I just miss my old life.” Shrugging, Calan shifted and wrapped his arms around the older male’s neck, planting kisses on his throat and cheek. If there was a prize for keeping your hands off your lover for more than five seconds, Calan would loose a second into that battle. They needed to make up for lost time, or so the younger boy thought. He knew better than to push his luck with sex, which they had a few times done in the office, right on the sofa. Kissing was the next best thing.
”But you can’t always just go wherever you please Calan…” |
[/s] There it was, the scolding train had landed. He understood the male’s concerns and he knew he himself was being reckless and putting his heart in possible unneeded stress. “I know.” He agreed! A surprise turn of events for a boy who was as stubborn as a pack mule, but he agreed. “It’s just impossible for me not to come and see you when I know you’re so close.” He gave a small smile, admitting his wrongs but also trying to excuse himself all at the same time. Calan was a complex little teen. [/div] 623, black sweatpants and a grey hoodie, shalan<3

He kissed back the young firetamer, placing both of his hands on either side of his cheeks and smiles. "I love everything about you, but sometimes I wish you weren't so stubborn." He admits and strokes his thumbs on his cheekbones gently, enjoying the closeness of Calan which he had missed in all this time. However, a pang of guilt riddled his chest because they just had so much to talk about. Shay wasn't naive enough to think that they'd just get back to normal and never acknowledge what happened. But for now, he was going to make sure that Calan is okay and not ruin anything by talking about things that would put them both on edge. He returned each of the kisses given to him happily before knowing he should pull back, his whole body on fire because he just missed this so much. "For the sake of your health, anyway." Shay knowingly, and wishing that for once Calan would listen to the doctor. Shay smiled at the fact that Calan made friends with an old lady, because it was just so like the boy it was ridiculous. Well, Shay was glad that he had someone to keep him sane while in the hospital as really it wasn't a pleasant place to be what so ever. However, he had to pull away from the attack of kisses. "You know I'd spend the whole day kissing you, just maybe when you're better..." Shay says maturely, not wanting to get Calan's heart rate up. He could understand hormones and the need to touch, yet he couldn't condone it professionally, no matter how much he himself wanted it. Shay smiles at the scarf around his neck and . "Well, it is still only spring but I'll sure keep it for the winter. Thank you." He says honestly, much loving the fact that it was a gift that Calan made. He would always take that over expensive presents because they had less sentimental value, and he could smile and thing that the scarf was knitted with him in mind. "You should knit one for your mum, I'm certain she'd appreciate it." Shay comments lightly, moving to place his hands over Calan's. Shay nodded in understanding at the restlessness, and he realised that Calan was really young. Too young to not whine about the things he misses and suck it up, and really the warlock could not blame him. As they sat on the sofa, Shay wrapped his arms around the boys shoulders gently and places a small kiss on the top of his head fondly, rubbing his arm gently. "I know love, I know." He says emphatically, and licks his lips before speaking again. "The dogs miss you as well, and I miss you too of course ... but you need to be patient." He murmurs against his hair, looking down at him. "You need to try and accept that you'll be here for a short while, it's inevitable." Shay was just trying to make him realise that he needs to just have patience. It wasn't one of Calan's strong points, not by a long shot, but everything could always be improved. Shay smiled softly at the words, and nodded. "I come and see you on my breaks ... You just need to take care of yourself and let me come to you." Shay tells him because he knew that this couldn't happen everyday. That Calan needed to realise that he couldn't just take expeditions to see Shay whenever he pleased, and this was simply a one off. Shay just held Calan close to him for a short while, the relief of having him so close once more making his chest ache but pleasantly. Because he missed him, and he never wanted them to part again. "How do you feel about going outside for a few minutes?" Shay suggests, knowing that if there was a doctor with him, especially as known as Shay, no one would say anything. "Get a breather before I take you back to your room." The male smiles, hoping that Calan would be okay for that idea, as it was a sort of compromise between what they both wanted, and Shay would be able to take care of him in the meanwhile. in due time, All in due time, see the world through different eyes. All in due time, shadows will give way, give way to light.[/ size]
“Mother said I got the stubbornness from her.” He smirked a little bit as his fingers danced along the male’s chest. He began to soak his lover in as much as he could so it would remain fresh in his mind when he had to go back to his room. Shay looked as though he was regaining the weight he’d lost when they were apart. He didn’t look so tired now, but his eyes were brighter and back to the way they use to be. Calan smiled and bit his lower lip, taking far to long to look over the males features. How he missed his older lover. “You look better.” He whispered and stroked the male’s neck a bit, sighing contently as he was embraced once more. How he wished he could just lie there forever, but alas it wouldn’t last for too long.
With his arms around the warlock, he still noticed how thin he felt. Alright strike that, Shay looked slightly better but he was still skinny from the last time they kissed, which was minutes before Calan went off to get his new heart. “You look better, but you feel skinnier then me.” Calan scolded softly. He was more than aware of the male’s crazy schedule, he felt as though he needed to get better faster so he could make sure the male ate properly. “I wish I could be the one making you lunch...” He murmured and kissed the male’s lips, smirking slightly. “What would you do without me?”
The idea of going outside seemed like a dream come true. He grinned and moved to peck the male’s neck. “We can? Please! That would be awesome.” He moved to stand slowly, grunting a bit as his legs tingled like they were made from jelly. He hated feeling so damn weak, like he could break at any moment into a thousand pieces. “I bet I look horrible.” He laughed weakly as he grabbed the Iv pole and began to walk to the office door. With the older male the boy walked out of the office and took in a breath, it sounded slightly pained but Calan was able to regain his composer quickly. His hand moved to gently grabbed the male’s fingers and he took his hand into his own. It was nice to be able to hold his lovers hand and not have to worry about anyone looking, he was old enough now and he could happily show it.

"Why did you have to get the faulty genes?" The warlock teased with a little grin, enjoying the familiar feeling of hands on his chest, because he'd missed this. He'd missed the boy and his touch and he knew that there would be a while yet before they could do anything, but he just liked the soft caresses. It reminded him that after long hours of work he had someone. Sure, he had friends, close friends at that, but it will be nice to know that he won't be returning to an empty apartment.
Shay rolled his eyes a little at the comment of him looking better. Sure, he might have had a bit more to eat and all, but he was glad it showed. "Gee thanks, make a man feel good about himself." Shay teased, suggesting that Calan was implying that he was looking terrible before. To be honest, he probably would have been, simply because he hadn't had a chance to look in the mirror and tell himself that he needs to take care of himself. For a long time it was just solid hours of work, go home and have a short shower before passing out for a couple of hours and the routine starts again. He supposed he brought this onto himself. He knew he'd try and work less hours when Calan was finally home and back to him.
The warlock laughed softly and shook his head. "I'm a grown man, there is barely any way that I could be skinnier than you, stop over exaggerating." He murmured and leaned in to kiss his hair and temple affectionately, arms protectively around the boy he loved so unconditionally. He smiled when Calan said that he wanted to make Shay lunch, and he knew that he missed this life, him, but he'd have to hang on just a little longer. "I'd be a mess without you." He tells him softly, violet eyes meeting brown ones. "Already am." He chuckles, but there is a truth to that because if Calan wasn't taking care of him then no one was, because Shay certainly wasn't.
One of his favourite things was certainly seeing Calan smile. And the news that they'd be going outside for a few minutes positively elated him and Shay smiled back full force. He got up himself, hanging up his white coat because it was warm and he was wearing too many layers as it was. He rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt and smiled down at Calan as he tool his hand. "You know, this is my workplace. I look very unprofessional doing that." He teased but didn't have the heart to pull away from the minute amount of contact, and hell, he didn't want to. He liked the touch because he'd been deprived of it, and so he only squeezed the boy's fingers as they slowly walked.
He could hear that breathing was hard for the younger boy, but he was also certain that the fresh air would help and not hinder. He walked Calan down the path in the garden, slow and strolling the pace, but it couldn't last forever. "Tell me when you feel tired, and we'll sit down, okay?" Shay asked, always worrying about the young male, and not just because he wanted to make sure he was okay, but because Shay himself would be devastated if he wasn't. "Once you get out of the hospital we'll do something ... maybe go somewhere, anywhere you like, how does that sound?" He smiles at him softly, fondly and lovingly as he takes in the face of the boy he missed so much.

in due time, All in due time, see the world through different eyes. All in due time, shadows will give way, give way to light.
Calan gasped playfully and whined a little bit. Trying to look totally and completely offended by that. “I’ll let my mother know you said that.” He teased. His hazel eyes settled on the male’s chest and muscles. True he looked like he could stand to gain some more pounds, but over all Shay was still looking as good as he always did. The young boy blushed and looked away, in an attempt to not get so overly excited. With a smirk the boy stood back as though to eye him completely, then he began to circle the warlock like a predator to wounded prey. “You know very well your ego could stand a few blows.” Shay knew he looked good, which made teasing him all the easier.
Calan had really needed this for a while now. Just some time to himself and to spend with Shay. Recharging his batteries for life as well as making his stay in the hospital a little easier. Having a small taste of what he would have once he was out of the overly sterilized bed was even better. He could daydream in full and await the day when he would be allowed to stay with Shay. “My mother talked to me.” Shit, he suddenly remembered the conversation he had with the older woman when she last visited. “She wants me to officially stay at home for a little while, just so If anything happens she can be near.” He smiled weakly, understanding the reasoning behind it, but his stubbornness wanted something different. “But she did say you can come over whenever you wanted.”
Leaning into the doctor’s embrace he snorted slightly. His hands moved slowly to slip up the male’s shirt. Skin on skin contact. Calan trembled a little bit and bit his lower lip. His heart began to beat faster and his breath began ridged. Calan was a frisky little thing, but even the smallest touches could send him near the edge. He guessed that because they hadn’t touched in so long he was much quicker to react. Slowly they walked outside and to the garden area of the hospital. Calm and relaxing, it was suppose to bring up the spirits of those who were trapped inside the white walls, like himself. “Wow, it’s really nice here.” He purred softly and walked with the older male for a bit.
Soon his body caught up to him though. He tugged the male slowly to a bench and sighed a bit, shifting. “I need a break.” He laughed and happily sat himself down on the wooden bench. It felt so nice to be outside again. The boy moved to the side and leaned his head against the warlocks shoulder. “Go somewhere?” He asked gently and looked at him, trying to think of where they would go. “Where would you want to go?” His arms wrapped around the warlock’s waist and he snuggled against him more, ready to go to sleep if needed be.

So easy, smiling and laughing, and after Calan had left him before he ended up in hospital, the warlock hadn’t thought that that would be possible again. However, he was happy to joke around with the young boy. “I’m not afraid of your mother.” The violet eyed man chuckled, a teasing note in his tone, but the next words brought a louder laugh out of the older man. It was true, there were no problems with Shay’s ego, he has it and he knows it, but since his ego had pretty much been on the down low for most of his teenage years, he had the right to feel good about the way he looked. And Shay certainly looked better than ever. He licked his lips and grinned. “Yes, not sure how anyone could resist me.” He joked, cocking his head to the side lightly, amusement clear on his face.
When Calan spoke of his mother, it was clear to Shay that he loved her. Sometimes the warlock doctor wanted to be closer to his own family, but Sinead was pretty much someone he did not get along with and his parents were much too far away. But Shay looked fondly upon the boy when at the thought of him being able to leave the hospital and that made Shamus feel a lot better. “Your mother loves you and cares about you. There’s no rush to do anything.” He tells him softly, violet eyes on hazel, willing Calan to believe him. “Not now when everything is better, when you’re better, you’ve got all the time in the world.” Shay offers him a fond little smile. “I’ll come over sometimes, and take you out if you wanted. You could certainly use this time with your mum.” Shay knew that Calan wanted to be with him, but he also wanted him to be with his family, appreciate what he has before distancing himself from them. He was still just a child, after all.
Shay felt fingers on his skin, and he let out a soft sigh. The boy was relentless, and a teenager, but Shay was expecting more from him, even if he couldn’t deny how much he missed the touch. He didn’t say anything though, letting Calan have this moment while he could as they walked. The warlock looked around, nodding. “Certainly, it would be when all you’ve seen the last few weeks was a hospital room.” He smiles and squeezes his arm gently. Shay sat with Calan when he got tired and leaned his back against the bench, leaning his cheek to press on the top of the young firetamer’s head. When Shay suggested that they could go somewhere, he shrugged. “The beach maybe? When you’re better I’ll take a day or two off and we can go to the beach.” He smiled and nodded, rubbing his back gently and kissing his temple. “I miss you.” He murmurs, the words more than heartfelt because he felt his chest ache with longing, but it would still be a while before they were back to normal. “I am so glad you’re okay, Calan.”
