For a while, Reminy had been wanting to get back into business. While Manuka had its charm and certainly had a way of keeping her busy, the vampire felt herself getting restless, like she was in need of some great adventure to cross her path every since she'd spent the night with her sire. Normally, Reminy was quite content just to get by on the smaller happenings that occurred on a daily basis. But lately, she felt a stirring in her roots that told her she was missing something in her life. The last two times that feeling had arisen, she had married Lowell and purchased her own publishing company, so she'd tracked it down to either being somehow related to business or her love life. And while she knew she could always pursue a romantic entanglement with Noelle, Reminy was trying to stay away from her for a while. Nothing bad had happened during their evening together, Reminy knew that getting in touch with the past could be dangerous, for fear one might end up living there.
As it was, she spent her entire morning on the phone with the person handling business at her publishing company in New York. Abrams was a fantastic asset with his knowledge of legal and financial affairs, and had served as one of her personal advisers for the last thirty years. Granted, he was immortal, so years really didn't mean much to him, but she considered him a friend. Abrams had told her of her financial holdings, how the publishing house was doing, and told her that she had plenty to spare on new investments. For a while, she had considered investing in Carrie's Press, which was the local newspaper. It was a quaint, old-fashioned building that was a little run down and needed some TLC. But, Reminy had a fondness for old buildings, and it wasn't just the charm of Carrie's Press that charmed her, but the idea that she could restore an old staple of the community into something more modern and useful.
After a long conversation with the current owner of Carrie's Press, Reminy had set up a meeting to discuss her intentions. While she wasn't sure that she wanted to buy the entire company, she definitely wanted to become an investor and put money where they seemed to desperately need it. If Manuka was going to be her semi-permanent, or even permanent area of residence, she wanted to help out in any way that she could. The meeting had gone rather well, and as Reminy thanked the owner one last time, she grabbed a copy of the paper's most recent issue and headed out the door. The day had turned out to be rather lovely, and gave her an opportunity to finally wear some of her favorite sundresses with only a light covering over her shoulders. Even though it was well after noon, the streets in the Old Town weren't crowded, because most people tended to spend their time in the Upper State and other more largely populated and more modern parts of Manuka. Because of this, Reminy had an opportunity to people watch, which really was one of her favorite pastimes. Then, her eyes settled on a really lovely dark-haired woman who seemed to be walking with her a purpose. Reminy didn't have any idea where she was going, but she definitely seemed to be too wealthy to live or work in this area. There was a powerful air to the woman, and as soon as Reminy saw familiar violet eyes and facial features on the woman, her voice betrayed her, and she called out.
”Lillith?” Reminy called, giving a little wave when the woman actually looked up and at her. The years hadn't aged her old friend, of course, but Reminy almost hesitated. It had been even more years since she'd last seen this woman than when she'd last crossed paths with Noelle? Did she really want to go down this road again? Reminy started moving toward Lillith, and it was almost like her feet betrayed her. Whether she wanted to or not consciously, her subconscious already made its decision.

How dare he insinuate that she was anything less than perfect at her profession? How dare he? She was the best fucking attorney this side of the Atlantic, and anybody involved in the legal world knew that. Lillith knew that he had done it to spark her ire, to put her on her toes, to put her on the defensive and make her prove her worth. It had not worked the way he wanted, because he had called her, and wanted her services, which meant he already knew her reputation as a shark in the water, not to be underestimated or provoked in any way. Asshole. The moment the words, ‘are you sure you can do this job and get me results’ had come out of his mouth, she’d walked out. Just because she also happened to be a drop-dead bombshell did not mean he had the right to speak to her that way. There had been no words to accompany the movement, merely an exit. He’d tried to call her back or get Security to retrieve her, but she’d kept walking, visually daring them to try and stop her. That question may have flown when she was new, a fresh-faced young thing, unable to even spell the word subpoena, let alone use it properly, but now? No way in any of the realms of Hades would she allow someone to speak to her that way. She might curse him, actually, now that she’d thought about it. He’d had her going all the way out to the Old Town to make this meeting, and she’d agreed. And now she was pissed off, making her way back to the parking structure that held her pearl-white, brand new BMW M6 to take herself home and start plotting the downfall of his company. That was when the little voice pulled her out of her angry haze… The gentle lilt in her name made her turn her head more than anything else. Why? Because she was more than certain she recognized it, and was more than surprised to do so. She hadn’t heard the soft tones of Reminy in centuries. But her sharp hearing had not failed her, and her memory hadn’t either. The delicate bone structure of the vampire was the same as she remembered, as was the trepidation. Reminy had never been completely comfortable around her, for some reason Lillith wasn’t sure of, but that was probably because she’d never bothered to ask. Maybe it was because she and Noelle had been friends, and the younger woman hadn’t wanted to intrude. Reminy was one to avoid stepping on toes. The thought made her wonder though, why Noelle wasn’t with her. The last Lillith had seen, the pair had been almost inseparable in the newness of their relationship and Reminy’s rebirth. With hardly a glance at traffic, she crossed the street with a light smile on her full lips as she gave the brunette vampire a gentle wave in response. ’Hello Reminy. How nice to see you! If unusual. What are you doing in this area? And where’s your other half?’ She asked the questions slowly-ish, so as to give the younger woman time to reply, as she came closer, stopping about a foot in front of Rem and cocking her hip just slightly, putting her weight on her left foot. The vampire’s face adjusted in a variety of emotions as she answered the hybrid. Lillith had forgotten just how pretty she was, which was very unlike her. But then, she had never stuck out in the lawyer’s mind because she had never tried to. She let Noelle do all the interacting, seeming to prefer the wallflower mode. And even though that was generally Lillith’s type, the elder had never once dared to assess her that way because she had belonged to the Noelle, who was her friend. Where was Noelle?

While Reminy considered herself to be a strong, independent woman in her own right, there was no way that she could hold up to this woman before her. Lillith practically reeked of power, wisdom, and feminine strength enough to make Reminy, who was usually calm and composed, trip over her words. That was part of the reason behind why, when they'd met previously, she'd clung to Noelle like the woman was a life preserver. Noelle and Lillith had been friends since some long-ago era, and she was sure that they'd told her the story of how they'd met, but she couldn't find that she remembered. Whenever Lillith had been around, the woman's stories and the way she spoke had been so fascinating that Reminy held onto her every word, but eventually just lost herself in the cadence of her voice and her way of speaking. She was like Noelle in so many ways, with a classic elegance that was oh, so attractive. And then there were those eyes. Oh, this is dangerous.
Lillith did seem happy to see her, though, which was a relief. For a moment, Reminy felt nervous that she wouldn't be memorable as anything other than Noelle's recently turned lover. Lillith even addressed her by her first name, and the vampire knew she'd be blushing if she only could. She supposed that was a nice perk of vampirism, the fact that her complexion stayed fair and pale as it had when she was a child in the winters, when sun was limited, and everything got so cold. Her mother said that sometimes it made her look sickly, but Reminy was fond of her alabaster complexion, and hoped that one day, someone would appreciate it, and her, and think she was pretty. She had been so flattered the first time that Noelle had paid attention to her, because she was absolutely stunning as a representation of all the right characteristics that a woman should possess. It was part of why she'd been so alluring to Reminy when she was still a naïve youth and a human. Now, when Lillith addressed her, she felt the same pull that she had all those years before with Noelle, and knew that this time, she was free to do whatever she wanted. Noelle didn't own her, she wasn't married, she was absolutely free to act on her own desires, and if Lillith was willing... well, they might be able to have an excellent time together. Reminy chalked it up to fate, because it had been working in mysterious ways ever since she'd arrived in Manuka; reconnecting her with Noelle, and now bringing Lillith back. ”Unusual, yes, but Manuka has a way of acting in mysterious ways. I've barely gotten used to it.” The younger vampire gave a little shy smile, but kept eye contact. This time, she wanted to be memorable on her own, and not as Noelle's little 'pet.' ”It's lovely to see you again, too. What brings you to Manuka?” Reminy asked, then answered her own question because Lillith had asked. ”I decided that I needed a change in pace after New York and my publishing company decided to wear on me. It's still running beautifully, and I can't leave things alone, so I'm attempting to invest in the local newspaper.” Reminy pointed back to Carrie's Press, where she'd emerged from and chuckled. ”And that's where I am.” Reminy listened to the older vampire discuss her reasons for being there, and then caught her question about her 'other half.' Reminy frowned for a minute because really, she was still frustrated with Noelle and trying not to get too tied up there. No, she needed a change of pace. She didn't need to keep falling back into her past when there were bright enough options for her future. However, Reminy knew how to be diplomatic and informative at the same time. ”Oh, Noelle? She's in town, actually. We ran into each other for the first time in years the other night. Talk about surprises, right?” Reminy made sure to emphasize their time apart, because she didn't want Lillith to get the wrong impression that they were still together, especially if she was interested. ”She's doing well, though, from what I gathered. I'm sure you could contact her and catch up, though, if you wanted.” For a moment, Reminy felt worried that Lillith was only entertaining her to get information on her old friend, so she decided to be bold and hopefully stir the older woman's interest in a different topic. ”I'm actually free for the rest of the evening, and I'd love to catch up somewhere that's not a street corner. Would you be interested in having dinner with me?” It was hopefully not too much of a long shot, but Reminy had to try.[/blockquote]

What a very strange coincidence. Not unpleasant, certainly, since she remembered liking Reminy, but unusual… Made Lillith want to talk to her goddess, actually, and see what the fiery minx was up to, but Artemis had been more absent, of late, likely performing tasks which didn’t warrant Lillith’s attention. Anyway, the young vampire before her looked positively lovely, if more than a touch nervous. The hybrid had a score of years to perfect reading body language, and while Rem was a capable, strong little thing, her balance was obviously thrown by the older woman. She really couldn’t blame her, to be honest, since Lillith was a force to be reckoned with, much like a hurricane or tidal wave. A force that was pushing against the brunette before her, making her pupils dilate and her pulse quicken. Curious, that Lillith was intrigued by the physical response to her presence more than the verbal one. The vampire’s body said more than her words did, at that particular moment, and it piqued the violet-eyed vixen’s interest.
’’Mysterious ways,’ indeed. An apt way to put it. I sometimes wonder if the city itself doesn’t have some sort of pull and pulse of its own, drawing us here… Together.’ The last was quiet, more a personal musing than anything else, but also a barely discernible flirtation. She hadn’t meant herself and Reminy specifically, but the supernatural community in general. Still, it served to act as a double entendre. A more wicked part of the priestess whispered that she’d done it on purpose, but whether that was true or not was yet to be seen. Yet to be seen, as she listened to Reminy explain her presence, and inquire about Lillith’s own adventures in Manuka. ’Well, thank you darling. I’m actually here on business also, believe it or not. I’ve decided to pursue law- for quite some time now- and have become quite good at it. Today was a consultation with a potential client. Who turned out to be… well, not worth my time.’ She flipped her long brown hair over her shoulder, almost as if to disdainfully emphasize her point, before she continued. ’It’s wonderful to hear that you found something to put your efforts into, however. We need pet projects to occupy our time every now and again, to make the years pass with more fluidity. Everybody needs a hobby, no?’ Her white teeth showed briefly in a lovely smile, while her brain ran over the subtleties of Reminy’s sentences, noting that she purposefully didn’t mention Noelle, in any fashion, as a current topic of her life. How… unexpected. The woman had seemed to... well, fawn was putting a little too much emphasis on the behavior, but she had definitely indulged Noelle quite a bit. For them to have parted company, something must’ve happened. For the moment, Lillith chose not to ask what, but did make a mental note to return to the topic later, certain she could get an answer out of this petite woman.
Reminy chose to acknowledge that Noelle had been her other half at one point, however, and went on to explain that she had actually seen her recently. Now, that was too unusual, by far… Manuka had something going for it that inspired further investigation, certainly. All three of them- who hadn’t seen each other in centuries- suddenly all popping up at the same time, couldn’t be coincidental. No need to discuss that with the younger vampire though, as it was something she’d look into herself. She did note the emphasis Reminy placed upon them being separated, and the mild feigning that she might not have known who Lillith was referring to. A mild flicker of willpower kept the older woman from raising a derisive eyebrow. ’That would probably be wonderful, since I’d love to see her. It’s been ages for me too, actually. I’m sure I’ll be able to track her down, now that I know she’s here, thank you. I’ll have to make a plan with her soon. Speaking of which, what are your plans for the day?’ she asked, genuinely curious, because she was enjoying Reminy’s- thoroughly unexpected, but very nice- company after the irritation-inducing meeting with the ‘gentleman’ consult she’d had. As hoped, Reminy was available for the evening, and even was so bold as to invite Lillith to dinner. The hybrid was actually flattered by her invitation, and graciously accepted, silently giving Reminy points for courage.
’That actually sounds fantastic, since I’m starved. We can go to this lovely little Italian place I know of that’s downtown on the corner of Main and Eighth Street. Fabulous pasta. My car’s in the garage, just there,’ she said with a point of her index finger in the direction of the three-story structure, ’if you want to follow me. Or I can meet you there. Whichever’s easier for you.’ Lillith only gave people so much wiggle room. She made choices, and people either bent to follow those, or she decimated them, or dismissed them. She had no middle ground, ever. And curiosity reared its head, wondering how Reminy would adjust to such dominant- and perhaps domineering, for which Lillith was completely unapologetic- behavior.

Lillith really hadn't changed a bit. Reminy had always admired the quiet intensity that seemed to surround this powerful woman, and power was something that she had always been drawn to, even if she didn't like to freely admit it. In fact, it had been Noelle's independent power that was rare for women to have in the early 1900s that had been the original factor that paved the way toward attraction. When Reminy had first met Lillith, it had been because she was friends with Noelle, and while there had been temptation, Reminy knew to stay away from the powerful older vampire – Noelle wasn't outwardly the jealous type, but Reminy knew that her sire was possessive, and wouldn't appreciate her showing any sort of interest, even fleeting, in another woman. Reminy was a very loyal person, too, and wouldn't have cheated on Noelle even if Lillith had shown interest back then. She liked to think that she would have been flattered, and nothing more. But now that she was free, she could show interest in whoever she wanted. Most of the time, it was lonely being single, but she had found her own independence and self-sustainability without a constant partner or spouse. However, it wasn't her nature to fly solo, and even though she had a brief backward step into Noelle's arms, she didn't plan to stay there. Too much had happened, and going back to who she had been after she first became a vampire wasn't an option, no matter what feelings she had for the French woman.
”There is most certainly a power and charm to this city,” Reminy said, looking directly at Lillith as she spoke, feeling relieved that she'd chosen to wear sunglasses, so her heated stare wouldn't be as obvious. The elder vampire was remarkably beautiful, and Reminy couldn't help her instantaneous attraction. ”I suppose it shouldn't be so much of a surprise that you're here, then. A powerful woman in a powerful place... seems kismet, don't you think?” Lillith went on to explain her reasons for being there, and Reminy found out that she'd chosen to pursue law as a career. Somehow, it seemed fitting, and almost made the younger vampire fear for any opponents she'd come across in the courtroom. Even the most solid, confident people would likely crumble under one fixed glare from Lillith. ”I've always found law and politics to be fascinating. What branch?” Lillith would likely have been a good prosecutor, but Reminy doubted that was the area she chose – working underneath someone wasn't her style. No, she'd probably chosen something private, with clients that were hers, and lots of control and working for herself.
”I've picked up more than a few hobbies, to be honest,” Reminy confessed, not wanting to go into too much detail of how she spent her idle hours. Knitting, writing, and gardening made her seem so... old. ”The past few decades have found me rather... alone, and I thought I'd enjoy it, but now I find that it just gets tedious. I enjoy my company, of course, but I'd much rather share with someone else.” Apparently, the years had made her bolder, too, as she found herself speaking with a candor that she wouldn't normally have used with Lillith before. Reminy knew better than to be too strong, because Noelle had told her a few things about her dear friend's... operational procedures, especially with women. Reminy also knew that like her sire, Lillith preferred the romantic company of women, and wouldn't give a passing glance to a man. The predatory air of the elder vampire was probably enough to scare some women, and while it didn't make Reminy completely comfortable, it fascinated her enough that she wanted to make herself interesting enough for Lillith to notice her, and hoped that her past entanglements wouldn't play to Lillith honor and loyalty to an old friend.
She hadn't been hoping to talk about Noelle, but figured that the other woman would come up eventually. ”You'll find she hasn't changed much, that should be somewhat of a comfort,” Reminy tried to keep the bitterness out of her voice, but she'd hoped that Noelle would stop being Katherine's puppet by the next time they met. The fact that she was still working for the horrible woman definitely did its share to disappoint the younger vampire, but she tried not to let it show, especially around Noelle. Her sire did respect her enough to let her speak candidly, but Lillith didn't need to know intimate details of what they'd discussed during their evening together.
After stating that she didn't have any plans and expressing an interest in having dinner with Lillith, the older vampire made a suggestion that didn't give her any room to decline or change plans. Reminy didn't mind this forward, decisive nature, and instead decided to roll along with the plans that Lillith had already made. ”Italian sounds wonderful,” Reminy said amiably. She gave the gorgeous woman before her a bright smile, and decided on her next choice, which also left her very little wiggle room, but wasn't bothersome. This was just the way Lillith was, and she wouldn't lie and say that she didn't find some comfort in being taken care of, so to speak. ”I'll follow you there.” They parted ways briefly, and Reminy made her way back to her vehicle, watching where Lillith went, and followed her all the way to the restaurant, as she said she would. After parking and exiting her car, she looked at the taller woman and then at the restaurant. ”You always did have fantastic taste, Lillith.” Compliments were always a good idea, and if it endeared her to this powerful woman any more, she planned to keep them coming. After all, she could use a night to remember.

Being Lillith had its advantages. She was strong, beautiful, graceful, powerful, and intelligent. She had an uncanny ability to read people, and an adeptness with words and actions that was enviable. She communicated with a literal goddess and was her own boss. Lillith knew that she was a being to be desired. And the heady rush that came from knowing such a thing was powerful. The hybrid could feel the prickles of awareness rush over her skin as she realized that Reminy was- unless she missed her guess, which was unlikely- giving her an almost-lusty assessment in that moment, after the initial shock of seeing each other again wore off. It made Lillith a touch more confident, and perhaps more brazen than usual. The other woman happened to agree with her about Manuka, which the lawyer took as another tally in the ‘investigate Manuka’ column that was residing and building up points in her the back of her mind. But the latter part of the response, Reminy’s return flirtation, was pleasantly unexpected.
’At least I am not the only one aware of such a thing. Kismet… well, we may call our unique attraction by that title, for now, I suppose.’ She knew that the smile and heat she delivered with the words could be disarming, but the petite vampire seemed to have enough fortitude to withstand Lillith’s particular brand of attention for a while longer than most. It was fortunate, because the priestess hadn’t had the opportunity to do this special dance with words in quite a while. Her appetites in concern to companionship were rather… specific. Most who had the audacity to attempt such a thing unbidden didn’t realize this until they were crying in a corner, begging for a mother’s consolation. But that, in and of itself, was another special brand of power for the hybrid. She reveled in such control, in being so capable. There had yet to be a challenge that she found insurmountable. Her mother, when she was much younger, used to say that that came from never being denied anything as a child, that because she always got her way then, it set her up to never take ‘no’ as an answer as an adult. Perhaps it was true, but Lillith had never considered her strength of character to be a flaw, far from it, in fact. And it certainly won her more than a few cases in the courtroom. Speaking of which, Reminy was expressing an interest in her career.
The priestess couldn’t tell whether or not the brunette was genuinely interested in what Lillith did for a living, or was just inquiring out of courtesy’s sake. Either way, she did deserve an answer, if for no other reason than Lill didn’t mind telling her. Is she had, Rem would never know. ’I’m in corporate law, mostly. But I can practice anything. I’m one of the best high-risk criminal attorneys in the country, believe it or not. I’ve helped some shady individuals escape jail. But those are special circumstances, where they seek me out, generally through referral.’ Occasionally, what she did bothered people. Lillith really didn’t give a crap, to summarize. If it was going to be a problem, she was more than happy to be without the offended party’s company. It appeared to make Reminy a touch uncomfortable- her candor about it, perhaps- but not enough to dissuade her from continuing their interaction. She even moved on to answering the hybrid’s question about how she passed her time.
The response was a touch vague- maybe she had some embarrassing pursuits under her belt?- but it did satisfy the requirements of the inquiry, so Lillith decided to let it drop, for now, and listen to the vampire’s explanation of how she’d been for the ‘past few decades.’ It was interesting to hear that she’d been lonely, since Lillith had never seen her in her own company. There had always been a… buffer of other people, so to speak. Noelle, most often. That was a woman that the hybrid had every intention of calling upon at a later date. They had been particularly good friends, when they had known each other, such a long time ago. ’The bane of being so long-lived, I suppose- having only yourself to spend time with. All of our endeavors and companions inevitably turn out to be temporary. Still, the pursuit of company is worth it, I believe.’ Her weight shifted from her left foot to her right, before another thought occurred to her, and she continued. ’Although, finding a few others that I can happily tolerate for any length of time occasionally proves fruitless…’ Her chuckle was simultaneously amused and mirthless. The violet-eyed woman had gotten adept at seeing people such a long time ago, that she could almost-immediately tell whether or not she’d be able to stand their presence for longer than a few moments. Unfortunately, ninety-nine percent of people didn’t pass muster upon inspection. Reminy was right, loneliness could be tedious, especially when the options for an abatement were so… undesirable. And it was no wonder Rem had been lonely, if she’d split from Noelle. It came as a surprise, but Lillith chose to just… roll with it.
’I’ll assume the tinge of harshness in your tone implies that you don’t actually believe that. Or that you find it less-than-comforting in your own right.’ The expression on Lillith’s face then was lightly amused, as she had liked Noelle the way she was, and had assumed- given the way Reminy behaved around the Frenchwoman- that she had as well. There was a tale to tell there, Lillith knew, but that would be a savory tidbit for later. Now, there was a dinner to go to. And a small, but rather important part of Lill noted that the petite vampire acquiesced to her with no struggle at all. A sliver- a small, treasonous sliver- of her psyche perked itself up in interest, and a warmth seeped into her fingertips. There was a difference between flirting and knowing Reminy was mildly interested, and flirting and knowing that Lillith was interested. A rather dangerous difference, if only to her own sense of honor. She really did need to meet with Noelle, it seemed… For reasons that were morphing the longer she spent in Reminy’s company. Curious. Especially when the vampire complimented her, drawing that sweet smile from Lillith that was so rare.
’My thanks, darling. Though it is just a natural skill. As I recall, your own tastes were none too shabby themselves.’ The gentle touch she placed on Rem’s shoulder was affectionate, and heightened the tingle in Lillith’s hand. Definitely dangerous territory, this, even if she had done it on purpose. None of Lillith’s behavior was unplanned anymore, as she’d gained such self-control over the years. ’Come, they usually save me a table, just in case I’m feeling generous toward them on a random evening.’ She briefly considered placing her hand on the other woman’s lower back, in a leading gesture, and decided to go ahead. If Reminy protested, she would withdraw, simple. When they entered, the host- Russo- smiled and greeted her as if she were an old friend, inquiring about the woman at her side. ’This is my guest Reminy, to be treated with the utmost respect and care.’ A flurry of ‘of courses’ and a ‘right this way’ later, they were seated, and Lillith ordered them a bottle of wine. Again, without consulting Reminy first. It was just… the way she was. Take it or leave it.

The way Reminy saw it, the quiet confidence she held was more than enough to get by in most situations. Being with Noelle had taught her a lot about the world, and even more about being a woman. Now, she was a confident, thriving, independent woman, and she was proud of that. But somehow, every time she looked at Lillith, she could feel her knees weaken like the first time she saw Noelle, and realized that she'd be more than happy to give up some of that independence to be with this woman who nearly commanded control and submission with each twist of a smile. Noelle had spoken to Reminy about some of Lillith's preferences and operating procedures with the lovers she took, mostly to make Reminy feel at ease that she was not the same way. Noelle enjoyed her submission, but never demanded it. Sometimes, she would be more than happy to let Reminy take the lead, but most of the time, Reminy was perfectly satisfied by giving up her control. As long as she was in a safe space, with someone she trusted, there was nothing wrong with being taken care of. More often than not, the younger vampire found that she really enjoyed it.
Which was perhaps why she found herself nearly playing with fire now. Lillith commented on their 'unique attraction' which Reminy had labeled as kismet, and the younger vampire felt a shiver go through her body at the woman's tone. Therefore, she chose not to reply to that particular venue any longer – while she was more than happy to give up control in certain special circumstances, she didn't want Lillith to think she was a lust-filled fool from the get-go. That would certainly be undignified. With luck, she'd learn about Reminy's internal thoughts later in the evening. Part of her was still wondering if she should go through with it, if there was really such a disconnect from Noelle that she would seek intimacy with another woman, and not just any woman, but a woman who was old friends with the Frenchwoman. Well, if Lillith's sense of honor didn't kick in at some point during the evening, Reminy decided that hers wouldn't, either.
Lillith responded to Reminy's inquiry about her practice, and the younger vampire couldn't say that she was surprised at the side of the law that the Greek woman had chosen. ”I wouldn't strike you for a prosecutor. Those jobs for the state have lousy pay, anyway.” Reminy said with a flawless smile. However, the mention of letting 'shady individuals' escape was something that didn't sit right with her, and against her best judgment, she chose to comment. It was light, and not meant to be offensive, so she chose her words very carefully. ”I'm sure they're grateful to you, even if their morality is stunted.” Reminy's side was chosen carefully, and that was mostly influenced by her love for a human man, but once upon a time, she had been darker. She had been on the wrong side of history, in her opinion, but now she had a chance to make things better. Noelle and Lillith were still caught on the other side, but she'd mostly given up on trying to change their minds. It was a change that had to come from within, and even if she didn't agree with their stance, and might one day end up fighting against them, she would leave the issue alone until that day came.
”I used to think immortality was the most glamorous idea, and now it's still glamorous, just... less so when I'm in a large house, alone, passing the hours with some new knitting project I've taken up,” Reminy said, wondering what Lillith would think about her mentioning one of her 'secret' hobbies. There was no shame in it, of course, it just made her seem like an old maid that needed to get out more. Reminy was social enough, but mostly preferred going out with company. When Lillith commented that she had trouble finding people she could tolerate for long periods of time, Reminy laughed politely. ”Is this why you were always without a companion? I always wondered if that wasn't the reasoning – you're far too stunning to be alone. You could have your pick of any woman, but you already know that, don't you?” Reminy played to her confidence that bordered on being a force of its own, and hoped that Lillith might end up choosing her at a later date.
The younger vampire really, really wanted to stop talking about her ex, but until the conversation passed, she would just have to continue humoring Lillith. ”Noelle makes her own decisions, and as much as sometimes, I wish I had more of an opinion, I know where my place is. Right now, it's alone, and she's left to her own devices, as it were.” Reminy hoped that answer would be satisfactory enough, and changed the subject again. Dinner plans. The Italian place that Lillith recommended had been one she'd heard about in passing, and was excited to give it a try. With any hope, it might end up being a night of much exploration, even though it was still late afternoon. She followed Lillith to the restaurant, got out of her vehicle, and met up with her new dinner companion. ”I always did enjoy the finer things in life. What can I say? If there wasn't a lap of luxury for me to live in, I'd be a very unhappy girl.” Reminy knew this wasn't always true – she'd once lived a simple, easy life with her family, before she was changed. Before her sister disappeared. Before her brother got ill and died from his sickness. Before her mother killed herself due to the loss of two children. Before her father drank himself to death. Things had been easier then, for a while, but the tragedy that followed had been too much, and left her needing other things to fill her hours and get by. Noelle had always been more than happy to spoil her, even if she didn't ask for it. So, Reminy developed her taste for the highest quality, and learned to settle for nothing less.
When she was with Lowell, he didn't have much money of his own to use to dote on her, but he used every dollar he had, not because she demanded it, but because he wanted to. He was a very generous man, and her own business was successful enough that she could always cover the needs that his checkbook couldn't meet.
Reminy shivered with delight at the feeling of Lillith's hand on her shoulder as she was led inside the building. Then the touch dropped to her lower back, a more intimate maneuver, and she nearly lost her cool. Carefully, she kept her head and made it inside without saying or responding in a way that might embarrass herself. The host greeted Lillith with a warm familiarity, which didn't surprise Reminy in the least. Like Noelle, Lillith had a way of making 'friends' everywhere she went, mostly because of her money and generous patronage. Reminy smiled softly at the host when Lillith gave him the instructions to treat her with respect and care. ”Thank you, Lillith,” Reminy said softly after Russo led them to their table, which was private, secluded, and had an amazing view. Lillith ordered wine, a rich, bold red, and Reminy crossed her hands in her laps.
”You already seem to know my preferences,” Reminy said, then gave a little teasing smile. ”Where wine is concerned, at least.” The statement hung there, and she wondered how Lillith would respond. Was she being too bold? Was Lillith even interested? Only time would tell.

There was a whisper of something creeping over Lillith’s senses as she looked at Reminy again after so long. It was a tinge of awareness. It was pleasant and decadent. Oh, it was also dangerous. The hybrid had rather special tastes in women- supposedly…- that made her very hard to please. The fact that Rem was adding that tinge of awareness to Lillith was something both special and potentially awkward. Her honor was built on years of her own experiences, the way her heart pulled when this thing or that happened, and the careful guidance of her goddess. It didn’t follow a standard that anyone else she knew had, and it certainly didn’t care what other people thought. She was old, wise and powerful in a way that most beings only dared dream about. Still, even her heart had a tiny issue about… well, alright, lusting after her friend’s ex-lover. Lill sighed internally, because she knew exactly what she’d been feeling from the moment that first trickle of traitorous desire had coiled in the base of her spine, heightening her awareness. Goddess… It had been a while since she had bothered to take note of most women. Few had the correct combination of self-assuredness, submission and eagerness to please that she required in a partner.
She had built it into more than a few companions over her years, but that took more time than she was willing to divert from her current projects at this particular time in her life. Her career was important to her, despite her apparent flippantness at times. She knew she was good, but she was always striving to be better, and establish the foothold that she wanted. A woman who wasn’t up to snuff… well, she couldn’t be bothered. But here was this petite vampire, perhaps unintentionally, striking nerves that made Lill want to do such things with her in the privacy of her own home… A wicked grin crossed her pouty lips for a moment, as she considered that maybe she’d like to do some of those things in a more open venue. A locale less secure. There was a certain amount of joy to be found in that. And before her brain could wander too far down a road it really shouldn’t travel, she refocused on the words coming out of Reminy’s lovely mouth, and smiled.
’Mm, yes. In that, you’re correct. Despite the fortunes we amass over the years, taking a pay cut is not something I have any fondness for. I have standards. And those stunted morals are willing to pay me more. Simple facts. Mathematics, as it were.’ Her smile was gentle, but firm, in essence leaving no more room for comment, let alone argument. Rem may not like it, but she would accept it, and Lill knew that. Oh, she knew it in her bones, which piqued the interest- once more- of parts of her that had nothing to do with her calcium framework. Finally, her body settled- Lillith had utter control of herself, and none of this showed outwardly, of course, Hades, her heart didn’t even speed up, but she knew her own mind well enough to know where it wanted to take the brunette before her- and she continued their pleasant conversation with a light and throaty chuckle. ’We glamorize our own existences, I’m fairly convinced. Still, we must all face those moments or spans of downtime. It can’t all be parties and sex and thrill-rides and dangerous escapades. The batteries in the flashbulbs die eventually. And we are left to our own devices. Especially when we are alone.’ Lillith had no judgment for Reminy’s more mundane hobbies. Why should she? To each their own. The hybrid spent her downtime researching, writing, coloring, doing word puzzles or Sudoku. Things of that nature. Everybody had those ‘boring’ and trivial pastimes that did exactly what they were supposed to. Pass the time. Kill the loneliness. Reminy picked that moment to comment on Lillith’s general lack of companions. The priestess just had to smile, perhaps a touch wistfully.
’Of course darling. I could have my pick, if I were willing to sacrifice my standards. And, as you are well-aware, I am something dangerously close to uncompromising.’ She said the words with the easy confidence of absolute knowledge achieved through years of proof. The hybrid could land the next woman she saw, and have her naked and wanting in the span of a few hours, but the question was, would that woman inspire any similar feelings in Lillith? More often than not, hell no. So this flicker of potential that the brunette was showing her was exceptionally interesting. And part of the reason she decided to leave talk of Noelle for later, and move their newly-forged evening together forward to dinner.
’You deserve pampering Reminy. Spoiling and care. All lovely women do. And the heavens should forbid you go without them and be unhappy.’ It was said as a fact, with this gently caressing edge of implication that Lillith had gotten quite good at over the years. The trick, she’d found, was in being sincere. It was much easier to say things that you believed, naturally. She continued to behave that way, doing the things that came naturally to her, the gentle touches she bestowed on the other woman, who took them without complaint or stiffening. Could she have just been being polite? Of course. The little vampire had manners and respect. But a sense that Lill had learned not to ignore told her that Reminy was actually enjoying the attention. And the forcefulness of her companion. Which was convenient for the hybrid, as anything else would’ve been met with a return to mere politeness, and perhaps friendship, but nothing more leading than that. Until then, the powerful woman would be herself, and do as her nature wanted her to.
’The rest of the evening will tell us how well I seem to know your preferences dear. Since you’ve not yet voiced objection, I intend to continue in this fashion.’ A simple statement, certainly, but multilayered, much like the gently heated look that Lillith gave her before browsing the menu. ’May I ask what you’re considering for dinner?’ she asked politely, continuing the conversation in a more normal path, before she said some other possibly-seductive double entendres that were certain to make Reminy turn a lovely shade of pink. Yum.

Oh, it was easy enough to forget about Noelle whilst in the company of this delicious woman. It might seem harsh to some, especially since Reminy had spent the night in her ex-lover's company rather recently, but she wasn't here to dwell on Noelle. She hadn't come so far, done so much, just to go back and retrace her steps again. No, she had become a self-made woman, and as strong and willful as she knew she could be, it was intriguing to her that she was so willing to bend said impulses and strengths at the knee for her ex-lover's close friend. A woman's preferences were fickle sometimes, and she knew that, but from what she knew of her own history, hers were fairly straightforward. Reminy knew what she wanted and supposed that Noelle had given her that gift by teaching her how to be confident and take life by the throat. However, there was a time and a place for all of that, and right now, Reminy had the desire to take note and drop some of the confidence and strength she had cultivated over the years, just to stay in Lillith's company and see what temptations might be in her future, should she continue walking this path.
One of the things that Reminy had always enjoyed about the hybrid before her (other than those breathtaking violet eyes, of course) was her unwavering convictions. Even when it came to something so simple as taking a pay cut: this was a woman who knew her worth, and wasn't afraid to keep with her own view of proper and equal pay. Reminy had lived before women had really been granted equal rights and knew that Lillith had even more experience being considered a lesser part of society, and she managed to rise above. That was power in and of itself, and while there was a lot more to like about the woman before her, this was certainly at the near top of Reminy's little mental list that was building. Another reason was that Lillith likely understood her opinion on the matter of stunted morality, which was the term she used and truly believed, but not try to take her view away from her. They could agree to disagree and not argue while staying completely in the realm of respect for one another. And truly, Reminy did respect Lillith. How could she not? The woman was nearly flawless as far as she was concerned. ”I've always admired your ability to take nothing less than what you're due,” Reminy said simply, ending that line of conversation on a complimentary note.
The younger vampire threw back her head back a little and laughed gently from somewhere deep within her body, because even if Lillith's humor might be more of an acquired taste for less intelligent parties, Reminy was nothing if not intelligent and astute, and thought that the hybrid was really quite hilarious. ”I don't think you could have been more accurate with that assessment,” Reminy said, her slight Southern lilt leaking into her vowels when she spoke, since she was more comfortable now. Not comfortable enough to drop her guard or become too relaxed, since she figured that Lillith did enjoy a woman with some poise and propriety, but just enough to let the other woman know that she was intimidated, but also intrigued and didn't plan on going anywhere unless she was sent away. ”But the sex and thrill-rides can be delightful, if not some of the best parts of our little 'condition.'” Hopefully, Lillith would agree with this sentiment as Reminy suspected she might – the older woman certainly seemed the type to indulge, which wasn't a bad thing in the younger vampire's opinion. Indulgence and just a slight touch of hedonism were rather attractive qualities in a woman. Not so much in men, because sometimes, attractive as they could be, they had a tendency to be more clunky and awkward instead of fluid and truly sexual like women were. ”If I might inquire, do you have any banal activities that fill the spaces of days alone?” She'd already confessed to knitting, and wondering if this glamorous woman would have anything similar in her life. Probably not, but it was worth asking for curiosity's sake.
Lillith's confidence continued when she spoke to more unwavering confidence and made Reminy nearly melt at the pure power she possessed with every slight movement and syllable of her speech. ”I wonder... what sort of women do you pick? Do you ever allow them to pick you?” Reminy's question was mostly rhetorical, with a touch of innocent curiosity that she hoped wouldn't offend. Reminy would pick this woman in an instant, despite any consequences it might have for her and Noelle, and wondered if Lillith would do the same with her. Or would her honor weigh into a decision, no matter how tempting Reminy wanted to make the current situation.
At least she got invited to dinner, and was more than happy to accept. She was expecting something grand, something powerful that spoke to this woman's very essence and was certainly impressed with the venue that Lillith had chosen. Reminy was even more impressed when the host treated Lillith like she was some sort of superstar client, and bestowed the same generous enthusiasm on Reminy. She recalled Lillith's comment about her deserving to be pampered and spoiled, and couldn't help the grin that covered her face: oh, this was definitely too good to not fight for, at least in her own demure way. ”Is this your way of spoiling me, Lillith?” Reminy said, a little bit coy with her words, but with an expression that showcase the fact that she was unmistakably flattered. ”It has been a very long time since I've been well and truly spoiled – or happy, for that matter.” The woman supposed that honesty was a good way to go, since Lillith likely demanded openness, and Reminy didn't believe in being closed off when she didn't need to be.
Then the wine came, and Reminy cradled the fine glass in her hand before taking her first sip, keeping her blue eyes locked on violet ones the entire time. Her statement had been somewhat of a double entendre, but Lillith's was far better. Clearly, she was out of her league here, but hoped to create enough interest to last at least the evening, if not longer. ”I'm quite amenable to the way this evening is going,” Reminy said, taking another drink for some added courage, even if the wine didn't have the same affect on her now as it had when she was alive. ”I hope you'll find that I'm amenable to quite a few things, so long as you're involved.”
Lillith asked about what she was considering for dinner, and Reminy perused the menu for a moment. ”The lobster ravioli looks divine, so that's at the top of my list,” Reminy said, then paused before continuing, making sure her heated gaze was directly on the other woman before speaking. ”However, there is a selfish, greedy part of myself that is more excited about dessert.” Now that she'd let that out, it was almost certain she'd know where her dinner companion stood as far as they were concerned.

Lillith was, without a doubt, pushing the limits of her honor. She didn’t know at that particular moment, just how far she was willing to go. To touching the line, more than likely… But what did that mean? The things in Lillith’s repertoire were extensive, and detailed and delicious and fun. The hybrid was not allowed to breach that treasure trove, so to speak, with Reminy, at that moment. It was then that she made the mental note to talk to Noelle, soon, about dating her spawn. Noelle might not initially go for it, but Lill was convincing and they were friends. And Noelle would come around to her way of thinking, sooner rather than later. Still, that didn’t stop Lillith from planning to enjoy her newly-created evening with Reminy. Especially not as the younger woman- as anticipated and appreciated- let the lawyer’s ‘moral code’ issue lay to rest. And with a compliment, no less. That part was unexpected, but thoroughly enjoyed. She almost stroked Reminy’s arm, giving her a gentle, warm ‘thank you,’ but decided not to. Perhaps later she would touch the other woman. Give a show of physical affection that would put the other woman that much further within her grasp. First though, they were discussing their continued existence. The ways the whiled away the hours. And Reminy’s laugh was a thing to be admired, sweet and throaty, a luscious blend that the hybrid enjoyed.
’You have the most lovely laugh darling. I’m sure you’ve been informed, but I shouldn’t let the knowledge go unsaid. Truth is so rarely flattering.’ The brunette spoke to agreeing with her about the glamorization of their existences, then, and Lillith nodded, assured in her assessment of most things. Rem’s following tidbit about the best parts of their condition made her wonder… well, ‘delightful’ things about her companion. ’Sex and thrill-rides can be the best parts of everybody’s conditions. Though we immortals do have quite a bit more time to… experiment and learn, so to speak.’ Her accompanying chuckle was decadent, and she knew it, like a treat that people only allowed themselves to participate once every few months. Unlike the mundane daily things that filled most hours. Which is where their conversation took a turn to, Reminy inquiring about the priestess’ own ‘boring’ occupations. ’Of course sweetheart. Simple things that amuse me when I have less- or even more- pressing matters to attend to.’ She smirked, tempted to leave it lie there, but decided to elaborate, establish a touch more rapport with the younger woman, who ‘knew where her place was.’ ’Sometimes I do crosswords, or color, or complete Sudoku, believe it or not. Among other things. It is very important to have activities that pull us down from that high place of a million miles per minute to something more closely resembling neutral.’ Personally, her own mind was never actually still, always contemplating several different things at once, picking apart a puzzle she’d yet to solve, plotting some new tactic that needed employment. But having the basic things gave her subconscious access to the necessary brain power to do those things. Sex was one of the few things that fully absorbed her, actually, but that was entirely natural. She could stop thinking about everything but the woman she was with in the moments, minutes, hours, or days she spent in her company. But Lillith just couldn’t resist letting out the chuckle that emerged at the very idea that she would allow someone to pick her.
’I select the special ones. Submissive, but strong. Respectful, beautiful, intelligent, magical. But they never get to pick me, no. Perhaps they lust, want, and try to ingratiate themselves, but all the decisions are always mine. Always.’ Her tone was heated and low, informing Reminy, in no uncertain terms, that should anything between them occur, it would be because Lillith wanted it to. Like Reminy had said, she could have any woman she wanted… And did, when she actually felt the urge to do so. She was extremely particular though, not settling for anything less than the best.
Just like with her choice of venue, vehicle, or wine. ’If you’d like it to be, I suppose. But, were you mine to spoil, this would be low on the scale of possibilities.’ Her shrug was fairly eloquent, actually, a single, fluid motion of her shoulder that emphasized the truth of her words. Her lovers, her companions, were women who wanted for nothing, ever. Unless there was a particular lesson to be learned from the wanting that the hybrid felt needed to be imparted at that moment… Her full lips moved into a soft smile as she listened to Reminy’s response to her… statement about her intentions for the rest of the night, pleased with the response. It probably could not have been said better, to keep her intrigue level. ’I am glad to hear that. Especially since I’m rather involved, at this point, wouldn’t you say?’ She flicked a quick glance at her companion over the rim of her glass as she took a sip. An excellent choice, as always. Reminy’s coming dinner selection was also an excellent choice, truth be told. ’Mm, the chefs here are quite talented, and the lobster shouldn’t be missed. But I sympathize with the desire to have the sweeter parts of the evening more. Occasionally, I have absolutely no qualms with just indulging in dessert. There is a certainly tantalizing anticipation to be found in the wait, however.’ The hybrid wondered, if briefly, if her companion realized with just how much fiery power she was playing. It was possible, of course. She had been intimate with Noelle for years, and Lillith and the Frenchwoman had had very few secrets between them during those times. It was of interest to her, then, that Rem continued to have an interest. And not a mild one, from the looks of it. The hybrid indulged herself and stroked her lithe fingers over the back of her companion’s hand, just because she wanted to. The waiter picked that moment to return to them, of course. Normally, he would’ve had splendid timing, as they both had selected their entrees, but the older woman couldn’t help her tinge of annoyance as she placed her order- a rare steak with rice and a Caesar salad- and gave the menu back to the waiter. Refocusing her attention, she made a move to continue their conversation. ’So, tell me darling, you mentioned something about getting involved with the local publishing house? A pet project. Do elaborate, if you would.’ She took another slow sip of the wine as she waited for Reminy to inform her.

Post by REMINY ODESSA BARLOW on May 22, 2013 1:13:20 GMT
Reminy ducked her head when Lillith complimented her laugh – really, it was an unusual thing to compliment. It was just laughter, and something she did quite often. Reminy had always considered herself to be a rather happy individual, even with the tragedies of her past that would have weighed down many people. Yet, it was her resilience that kept her strong throughout the ages, and had allowed for her to find success and happiness in turn. ”I agree with you about the truth,” Reminy said, thoroughly enjoying the conversation with this woman. Intelligent people – or, at least, on her level – were somewhat difficult to find, it seemed. ”Perhaps it's why people use it so infrequently.” The violet-eyed woman was charming on a level that the smaller vampire had seldom experienced, even though she had known quite a few charmers in her day. When she was being raised as a proper Southern lady, she had been made to take lessons in manners – cotillion, they called it – and the other young men and women in her class were all ripe with old money and new charm. This was what she'd been used to, but her entire world view was rocked when she ended up in Atlanta after a series of rather unfortunate events in her youth and met Noelle, who was charming in a more European way. Lillith's charm was worldly, heady, and ripe with power, so the compliment made Reminy's skin sizzle, even though it was a simple thing. ”I appreciate the compliment. Thank you, Lillith.”
When the hybrid spoke of a few perks to being immortal, including time to 'experiment' as it were, the comments in and of themselves coupled with that sinfully rich laugh was nearly Reminy's undoing. The younger vampire bit her bottom lip and managed a small smile, hoping that this woman wouldn't get a hint of her weakness, especially where she was concerned. The vampire was torn, because she knew that Lillith would likely show loyalty toward Noelle, even if she did express a direct interest in the older woman, and therefore, was a bit hesitant on how to proceed. That was part of the reason why dinner or some avenue for them to just sit and enjoy each other's company, get to know one another in a more quiet, secure locale was appealing, and she hoped that Lillith would be interested. Reminy was intrigued when Lillith actually confessed to having mundane activities to fill her idle hours, yet wasn't shocked at the activities she listed: although coloring was an interesting choice. ”Coloring? I can honestly say I haven't colored since I was very young – I can imagine it would house a cathartic appeal, however. Interesting choice.” The word puzzles hadn't been as much of a surprise, which was why she'd chosen to comment on the more unusual activity. It was strange to think of this powerful woman sitting down with a coloring book, but the image wasn't unappealing. It just let Reminy know that there were layers – delicious layers to this woman that she was now very curious about.
Another enticing tidbit escaped the taller woman's lips when she described her 'type' of woman to Reminy: respectful, intelligent, strong... all quality traits, and appealing. She would expect Lillith to go after the pick of the litter, and imagined that this could be why she lacked for companionship; she didn't settle, and that was an admirable quality. ”I can imagine a woman like that would be somewhat difficult to find. Not impossible, but difficult, and I admire your conviction. Someone with as much to offer as you shouldn't ever settle,” Reminy practically purred because this woman was already starting to wear on her impulses and it would take a lot of willpower just for her to get through the evening, now that they were slated to go to dinner together at a location of Lillith's choosing. When they made it to the restaurant, Reminy already felt spoiled by the attention from the older woman and the host who had greeted them, but apparently, this attention was only the tip of the iceberg. Then, there were her words, suggesting that Reminy could be 'hers' to spoil. ”I imagine any woman under your care would want for nothing,” her voice was lower in pitch, but only slightly, and she couldn't help but wonder what it'd be like. If this was just a taste, then the younger vampire could only imagine what it would be like to have this woman completely to herself – it'd be akin to a drug in terms of power and addictive quality. For the first time that night, all thoughts of the war, of Manuka, of her reuniting with Noelle and everything else that ran through her mind on a daily basis were gone, and she felt power again in a way that she hadn't felt since that fateful day in Atlanta. That day had changed everything. ”I'd say we're both involved,” Reminy replied, then took a sip of her wine, finding that the room temperature beverage calmed her nerves. She'd never felt heat like this. Ever. ”There's something to be said for that, isn't there? An immediate attraction, an enticing offer? Sometimes, it's good to become fully committed, to give yourself over to something or someone with no hesitation.”
The two women had reached a point where they were basically conversing entirely in double entendre, and Reminy was loving every moment of it. They spoke of rich dinner options, tantalizing dessert, and how the 'wait' could be worth it – she still couldn't say for sure if Lillith was interested in choosing her as she chose all of her female companions, but Reminy knew that if she did, the wait would be well worth it. And, if she didn't desire her in the same way that Reminy desired the older woman, well – she'd just have to deal, although it would be incredibly disappointing. ”I've always believed that, when denied something long enough, the first taste is almost addictive. Like that first hit of chocolate after so long without?” Her family had never lacked for money while she was growing up, but there were certain luxuries that she and her siblings only got when they were particularly well-behaved, and sweets were one of them. As a small girl, she found herself craving chocolate and doing good deeds just to entice her parents into gifting her with the delicious morsels. Now, as an adult, she found herself exhibiting the same behaviors, but for something else entirely.
They placed their orders, which gave them a temporary reprieve from the charged conversation, and then filtered back into a more benign form of topic: Reminy's 'pet project.' She was pleased that Lillith took an interest, since her work was likely far more interesting, but the flattery got her talking. ”My current publishing house, located in New York City, has been thriving for about forty-five years now, since I revamped the business, and since it's doing so well, I figured it was high time for a new investment,” Reminy started, then took another sip of her wine and continued. ”I've been looking into the world of print journalism for some time, even though studies do suggest it's soon to be obsolete. I don't believe them – too many nostalgic types, not to mention that paper, as an investment, is rather enticing. Anyway, it's been my belief that if I built a paper that was focused more on reliable fact and a world view rather than just Manuka or just this country, it would do wonders. Eventually, the whole East Coast might come to the same way of thinking, and journalism could become more... honest.” There was that word again: honest. Reminy was a very honest person, and didn't get by on ambiguous morality – she wondered what Lillith would think of her little 'project' then, and hoped she hadn't just made herself out to seem like a lost cause or wasted attempt.

People had described Lillith in several different ways throughout her lifetime, and all of them held little nuggets of accuracy. One of these that had tickled her most came from a young acolyte she had been training so very many years ago: ‘she is like the statue of Artemis above us, but stronger.’ The implications were clear, of course. Lillith was hard, uncompromising, unyielding, unattainable, flawless, and an icon to be incredibly respected. That was how she had lived her life for many years, and people either fell into the lines she drew or were broken down and forced into those lines. Then there were the exceptional cases where she just dumped the broken messes off the face of the planet, and didn’t once bother to look back. But those people that she didn’t have to work so hard with, the ones that genuinely appealed to her, were deserving of her notice and praise. So far, Reminy was worthy of all that. It was like receiving her favorite descriptions, the true ones were the best ones. And as that had always resonated with her, she never gave out false flattery, even if it could have gotten her farther than honesty. If she could not get what she wanted with truth… Actually, that had never been an issue. She just got what she wanted, her way. While honesty was rarely complimentary, it was nice that she could use it with Rem. And that the other woman agreed with her assessment of it.
’That, yes, and that they are too lazy to find things genuinely worthy of such praise. It is hard to find exceptional qualities in most people, I have found.’ Nothing in need of complimenting. But Reminy was proving contrary to the typical in many ways. Even going so far as to be gracious of the compliment. Lillith waved it off, as she wouldn’t have given it if the younger vampire hadn’t earned it. Granted, it was bestowed upon one of the brunette’s natural qualities, a thing that she could not help, but the hybrid didn’t feel that that detracted from it at all. At least she didn’t have to work overly hard to be worthy of note. Impressive, in and of itself. As was the way she reacted to Lillith’s comments about immortality, actually. The older woman knew that she was an impressive figure, beautiful, smart, powerful, something to be prized. But she had not known that Reminy would be so intrigued by it, despite the fact that she likely knew of Lillith’s rather particular tastes in companionship. It was not as though the knowledge was a secret, it just wasn’t common knowledge. Though most would say, after they knew, that you could take one look at her and tell. The thing about that comment, however, was that it just wasn’t true. So many powerful people who were under large amounts of workplace or life pressure wanted absolutely no control in the bedroom, because they just didn’t want everything to be in their hands anymore. Lillith had never had that particular problem. She wanted what she wanted, and she knew exactly how to get it. And would. At that moment, she wanted dinner with this lovely woman in a restaurant that she actually liked quite a bit. But that would wait a few more moments, as they discussed the ways they whiled away their immortal hours.
The look on Reminy’s face when the hybrid explained that she actually spent a large portion of her downtime coloring was priceless. As though she loved the idea, but just could not understand it. Lillith chuckled softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she answered ’I don’t recall when I first picked it up, honestly, but it has always appealed to me. It is both soothing and meticulous and controlled. Speaks to me on many levels.’ She shrugged gently, and they moved on to discussing other aspects of Lillith’s life and preferences. Truth be told, Reminy’s honest curiosity about her was flattering, in a way. How she wanted to know even the mundane things about her struck a chord, a pleasant one. As did the way she kept ceding to the hybrid’s points, without much of a fight at all. ’Of course they are. It is why I am more often alone. But you are correct, in that I do not need to settle, when I am such a prize in my own right.’ Her mouth softened into a little smile as they finally left for the restaurant, arriving within a minute or so of each other. As mentioned earlier, she happened to favor the location, and they knew it. They must’ve as they remembered her name and favored table with a practiced ease. She spent enough money there, after all. But all the money she spent there was nothing compared the amount she could’ve spent on a woman who belonged to her. She professed as much to the petite vampire across from her, who looked positively thrilled with the idea that Lillith wanted nothing more than to spoil and adore her lovers. Partners. Submissives. And she did. Controlling someone’s whole life was a delicate balancing act of pampering and punishment. Eventually, the punishment part wouldn’t be nearly as necessary as the pampering, but the balance was always carefully maintained in the hands of the Dominant. And as dominant as Lillith naturally was… well, she had a unique finesse for the lifestyle she participated in. One that the small brunette across from her seemed unhealthily interested in. Not that the hybrid minded at all, as she was quite enjoying the completely veiled speech the two were participating in. ’Hesitation is just a means for people to pretend that they don’t know what they want. And as I have never had that problem, well… I can select whatever offer I want most with no reservations at all. Even ones like dessert, which may prove to be rather bad for me and the devoured both.’ Sure, they were still talking about dessert, right? Of course not. And they hadn’t been for a while. Though they both knew this, it was still fun to pretend. To play with the premise of the conversation like a ball of string, having to unravel each word to find the true meaning. But that could only sustain a conversation for so long, though both of them appeared to have a rather spectacular grasp on it. Lillith moved them to talking about something Reminy could actually go into depth about, and give her access points with which to continue their discussion.
’I believe I have heard of your rather profitable little company, Miss Barlow. Quite the accomplishment, for a woman especially, in the era you began. Impressive.’ She raised her glass gently, before taking a sip of the dark red liquid, in something of a small toast. They both knew how stupid people had been about equality during the older days, but they had quickly risen above the average woman, and excelled where others would have failed. Though this newest idea seemed a lofty ideal to the hybrid, she found no harm in it. Honesty was something she appreciated and cultivated, though it had a tendency to be lost and skewed in today’s convoluted society. ’That is something of an incredible goal Reminy. Perhaps a bit… naïve, given the state of modern press and its affiliates, but an excellent goal to reach toward, regardless. Truth is something to be valued, after all. Like an honest compliment.’ She smirked, having another sip of her wine, before settling farther into her seat, relaxing. ’But why Carrie’s? It is rather the worse for wear over the years. Hardly a completely respectable place to start.’

The more she learned about Lillith, the more time she spent talking to this beautifully mysterious woman, the more Reminy knew that she was getting in far too deep. Of course, sometimes it was better to live dangerously, and this was certainly doing just that, but even the more logical, sensible parts of herself were practically begging her to throw caution to the wind and just indulge this woman's whims for as long as she could stand it. Reminy had always known that while she had an independent streak and could certainly take care of her own business and affairs, she was better suited for being someone's companion. That didn't mean that the person owned her, necessarily – or at least, not in the same way that Lillith liked to 'own' her companions, but it wasn't an entirely unpleasant thought. The younger vampire had always possessed a fondness and an appreciation for powerful, driven women, and that had been part of her immediate, intense attraction to Noelle. She had been a good companion for her Sire, and had learned much about her own sexuality and her own independence during their relationship, and even though she knew she still had much to learn, part of the appeal to learning was having a capable teacher. And an attractive one... well... Reminy had always been certain that Lillith was likely one of the most attractive beings on the planet, and knew that even though this thought was lavish, it was still likely very true.
”Perhaps it's just as hard, if not harder, to find exceptional people,” Reminy suggested, just as a little counterpoint. She wasn't trying to be argumentative, but rather attempting to showcase that she was capable of her own intelligent thought, planned out opinions, and could keep up with this woman in a conversational manner, which was pretty important. Women like Lillith, from what she understood, did enjoy someone who could pose some sort of mental challenge, even if Reminy knew she'd be decimated easily if the two of them ever actually argued. That might have been part of the hybrid's appeal, too, because Reminy knew she was highly intelligent, but knowing that she was no match for this woman? The thought made her shiver. ”It has always been something of an ongoing attempt of mine to continuously weed out those who don't possess all the qualities I look for. Why pick and choose when you could have someone with it all, so to speak?” The younger vampire was patient, even though she could be impulsive at times. She was also picky, and recalled an instance where she had a chance to take a young, male lover who was... headstrong. Relentless. She had teased him, left him on edge, and never gave him a second thought. Sick and twisted fun, perhaps, but she knew that she didn't want to become another conquest. Reminy wanted to be adored, not just desired, and it seemed that women like Lillith were far better at giving her what she needed, so it was best for her to stray from some of her more selfish whims.
The conversation shifted to a more benign topic, or at least one that Reminy hoped would be more benign, because she was starting to feel a little flushed when the hybrid looked at her with a fixed stare that hit her all the way to her bones. Every time that wicked woman smiled, Reminy felt it like a physical caress, and she could honestly say that she had never been so attracted to someone. So they spoke of hobbies: coloring, knitting, other banal ways to pass the time when they had forever to take up a limitless number of activities. She was a little surprised to hear that Lillith colored, and smiled brightly when she told her about it, but wasn't as surprised when she got the explanation. Reminy was bold in complimenting her later about the fact that she shouldn't have to settle. If anyone was deserving of getting everything they ever wanted, it was this woman. The younger vampire was just hopeful that she would be something that Lillith would desire – one of the 'worthy' ones, so to speak. She only hoped that her past... affliation with one of the violet-eyed woman's close friends wouldn't automatically disqualify her. ”I'd say you're more than a prize. Any woman would be beyond lucky to be able to call herself yours. Just my opinion, though.”
They made it to the restaurant, and immediately, Reminy was subjected to the purely thrilling feeling of what it might be like to actually be this woman's companion. Lavish, excellent treatment. Prompt service. Attention the likes of which she had never gotten before. There was something in the intensity of those eyes that made every time Lillith looked at her seem like an appraisal and a test all in one, and even though it might make some women uncomfortable, Reminy found that she really liked it. They sat down, got their wine, and conversation continued to flow easily between them. The hybrid was... thought-provoking. Highly intelligent, but that wasn't a surprise. The mysterious air that surrounded her was one that Reminy would have thought would surely dissipate eventually, but found that the fog only kept getting thicker. It wasn't long into the meal that they started speaking to one another almost solely in double entendres, and it was... exciting. Beyond exciting. It was making Reminy flustered, slightly off-kilter, but hoping to retain some aspect of her resolve. She didn't want to appear completely weak, after all. Just pliable, or something equally appealing. ”Some of the things most might consider 'bad' are the most satisfying. At least, that's my approach to the subject.” Yeah, she wanted to be devoured by this woman like a rich dessert. There was no question about it.
Thankfully, Lillith changed the subject to one that wasn't sexually charged: business. Her business, and Reminy was a little shocked that she was even aware of her growing enterprise. She had worked hard on it, sure, and was extremely proud of it, but it was still growing. The vampire looked down at the table, a little demurely, and a sweet smile laced over her features. ”That's really very kind of you to say. My business is... it's the centerpiece of my existence, in a way. I wanted to prove that women could accomplish many things, even in an era when it was unexpected. You've been doing that for much longer than I, of course, so the recognition from someone of your stature is... unexpected. Appreciated. Truly.” They both sipped their wine, and then Lillith took an interest in her local business, giving her more space to actually speak freely and elaborate on some of her intentions.
”I rather like to be underestimated, Lillith. That way, when people see what I'm really capable of, they're nothing short of stunned. A strong ambition can be a woman's greatest asset other than her physical affects, wouldn't you say?” Reminy wasn't insinuating that Lillith was underestimating her, just as she knew Lillith wasn't directly calling her naïve. They were speaking to what 'other' people might say, if they took the time to look into her new projects. Also, Reminy just wanted to be impressive. She wanted to show this woman that she was more than most people saw in her: demure, pretty, polite. Of course, those things were all a strong base of her nature, and for the right person, she would give of herself in ways beyond perhaps even her wildest imaginations. She just had not met that person yet. ”Sometimes, there's charm and appeal in the broken pieces, if you will. A project that has a bit of a blank slate – something you can mold with your hands and build from the ground up until it reaches it true potential, all because you took the time to care. That's my interest in Carrie's.” It was leading toward double entendre again as she fixed the woman with a purely seductive gaze, and then the food arrived. Both of them thanked the waiter and prepared to dig in.

The nice thing about Lillith- well, one of the nicer things- was that she was never anyone other than herself. She didn’t put on airs or other faces or personalities to get her way. She just got her way, however she saw fit. That led to some very upset individuals, but the hybrid really could not have cared less. Her views of herself had been settled in concrete from a very much younger age, and there was no way she would change now. So when people called her ‘picky’ or ‘demanding’ or ‘selective,’ she merely nodded her head with a smile as if to say ‘yes, and what of it?’ Those conversations usually died there, as they had nothing else to say. Lillith was not a defensive person, she was strictly offensive. Her best defense really was the way she was always on the aggressive, so to speak. It was how she won court cases, how she achieved everything she had ever wanted, by being strong and independent and unstoppable. Age had not slowed her down at all. And just as she had always been, she was still incredibly particular. So finding exceptional qualities? Near impossible. Wholly exceptional individuals? One in a billion chance.
’Of course it is, darling. To find one admirable thing in a person is difficult enough, let alone finding every single quality they possess to be worthy of note. Exceptional people, in my experience, are quite close to extinction.’ Her eyebrows arched in gentle, knowing emphasis, because the truth always sounded so much more real in Lillith’s low, sultry tone, filled with a wisdom one may not expect when they looked at her. Of course, there was the air of complete authority and raw power carried with her like a weapon, in play before the battle had even started. So that may have given her away… ’That would make you something of a connoisseur, then, wouldn’t it? A populace gourmet. Decisive and selective.’ The hybrid gave her companion a sweet smile, actually amused by that. She had a feeling that Reminy was being truthful, but also that she was not quite certain what it was she really wanted. To look for ‘having it all’ but not even know what your ‘all’ was? She would bet that the younger had made quite a few decisions she thought were what she wanted, but had the end results be a let-down. Rem was… she was lovely, but it seemed as though pieces of her were fluttered about, not quite settled in the places they belonged. Perhaps, though, that was what had given her the reckless abandon to actually try for Lillith’s attention in the first place. Whether or not that would prove to be a wise decision remained to be seen.
As it stood, dinner was going rather well. Reminy clearly appreciated the sheer volume of flawless attention that was being paid her by the waitstaff and the hybrid woman who had earned such a thing. She had chosen to just nod, in agreement, with the petite vampire’s assessment. Yes, she was a prize… but then, prizes could be won, where Lillith could not. She was the claw, not the stuffed toy, figuratively speaking. Though there were facets of that metaphor that weren’t entirely accurate, it still proved her point. The powerful woman was always in control of the outcome, whatever happened to be. It was a daunting thought, to be so responsible for everything, all the time, but Lillith had discovered a very long time ago that that was her comfort zone, the environment in which she thrived. Those beautiful shoulders were born to wear control like a cloak, and never take it off, despite the negative aspects associated with it. For instance, the way she selected what she really desired, rather than picking something else because it was considered ‘proper’ or ‘polite.’ Her companion seemed to sympathize with Lillith’s attitude about the whole concept, however, even going so far as to include other traditionally ‘bad’ things in the statement. ’Mm, well, sometimes, they are more satisfying because they are considered ‘bad.’ Although, I will say that has never been something to shape my preferences. Rebellion is often useless, in terms of motivation.’ To have something inspire a rebellion was an entirely different subject entirely. To rebel, to balk at the rules, just to do so? Pointless. Like selecting the ‘bad boy’ lover just because a parent will disapprove. No, the hybrid had never functioned that way. When she chose, she chose because she was motivated by her own desires to do so, damn all the rules that told her otherwise, unless they were her own. So things like female independence and power? She had never lacked for them, because there was nothing that could’ve stood in her way and told her otherwise. But she could appreciate the struggle some others had gone through to achieve their own ends. Like Reminy.
’Do you enjoy defying expectations, Reminy, or do you enjoy your work? Perhaps some combination of both, hm?’ She was teasing the young woman, though Lillith was uncertain whether or not the petite brunette would realize it. The smile she delivered with the questions should’ve been quite adequate enough to make that obvious, however. As was the gentle brush of fingertips that Lillith delivered to the back of Reminy’s hand. Nothing serious, nothing blatant, but a small gesture, lightly affectionate. But the way her companion reacted? Oh… but that was delicious. Made the hybrid want to lick her lips and continue until the petite brunette positively burned. But, for the moment, Lillith had declared that an impossibility, and it would remain so, until she decided otherwise. Instead, she gave them something else to focus on, something that Reminy had the forefront of information on. Her chuckle, a warm, soft expression of amusement, at the vampire’s sentiments about estimation, carried through the restaurant as though it were functioning on a channel all its own, attracting an attention that the hybrid was more than used to, as her voice lowered, heated and wicked, and strong. ’I would far prefer to have people know exactly what I am capable of, darling. That way, I am already stunning, and never seen as less than I am. That way, I meet no resistance to my strong ambition or physical effects, because they know it will inevitably prove futile.’ Oh, to play with Lillith was a dangerous undertaking, but she had to admit that she was enjoying the interaction with Reminy. The way genuine shock or admiration or… well, a large variety of things, passed over that face and those lovely blue eyes made the encounter much more interesting and enjoyable, certainly. And she did do a rather good job returning the hybrid’s volleys, even if it occasionally took an extra moment or two. ’Charm? Mm, if that is the adjective you’d like, dear. There is charm, perhaps, after such things have been repaired, in my opinion. Broken things are sometimes more trouble than they’re worth, but those with the potential to be greater than they were before do hold a certain intrigue, yes.’ Food arrived then, and after a set of quiet thanks, Lillith twirled her fork for the briefest of moments before setting the first bite of well-prepared delicacy in her mouth, sighing after the food had disappeared down her throat, happily. ’I do wish you luck in your endeavor, though, as the small firm has not yet reached that point of no return. Ability to be better still rests in that shell.’

The younger vampire's mind traced over the words that the older hybrid gave her, wondering how much was compliment and how much was just carefully concocted to further their conversation. The idea of Lillith actually thinking she was worthy of compliments made her swoon a little, but she had to main control of herself and her faculties. Because Reminy was still young, she was still impulsive, still trying to figure out the world and her place in it all, and Lillith was... oh, she was the exact opposite of all of that. With her, there was seemingly no impulse, no driven desire to do anything but exactly what she wanted, and there was a great appeal in that which Reminy might not have considered if she hadn't gotten fortunate enough to have this little impromptu meeting that turned into a dinner invitation. In the past, Reminy had enjoyed the company of people who were equally as passionate as she – bold personalities, and a distinct lack of control that was replaced instead by deep passion. The fact that Lillith was controlled almost to an icy cold exterior should have probably made her afraid, made her concerned that she would end up annoying the older woman, but it just ended up making Reminy determined to impress her, one way or another. No small feat, to be certain, but the younger vampire did value the occasional challenge; not to the extent that others did, but enough to make a difference.
Lillith called her a 'populace gourmet' after she'd made the daring claim that she was selective around the people in her 'inner circle,' and she was. Reminy liked to weed the good from the bad, find qualities that would be pleasing to her for whatever reason at the moment, and had quite a distaste for mediocrity. No, like Lillith, she valued the exceptional, but certainly not to the level that Lillith was teasingly – or so she thought – suggesting. It could have very well been a hypothetical question, but Reminy chose to answer anyway, a little more demurely because while it was a flattering idea, it wasn't a proper title for her at all. ”Decisive and selective, yes, but certainly not to the level you describe, and nowhere near your abilities in the same region, I would assume. Fairly assume, but still – assumption are always one thing or another until they're proven.” It was a compliment, but not blatant praise or mindless adoration, because she wasn't like that and frankly, she knew Lillith wouldn't respect that. And there was a tiny part of Reminy that nagged her all the way to the restaurant, whiny and hungry for attention and respect – or whatever the hybrid experienced that was close to desire or adoration – toward herself. A selfish thought, likely, but she didn't care and wouldn't voice it aloud unless directly asked. As it was, she was happy to let that part of herself go ahead and whine, because she was really looking forward to this dinner 'date.'
Their double entendres came to a head over the concept of dessert, which could certainly be taken in many different ways, and was with Lillith's comment about things that were 'bad' being satisfying, and Reminy certainly knew this to be true in more ways than were just related to various confections. Sweets, sex, women... all treasures, all luscious in their own way, and she found that her body spiked again, wanting things that she really shouldn't, especially so soon, and maybe even with this woman, who was rather close to her ex-lover, Noelle. ”I think that, on occasion, the forbidden fruit can be the sweetest,” Reminy said, her eyes slightly darker. She licked her lips unconsciously, and then directed her next question to another part of the hybrid's comment, fixing her blue eyes right on violet ones, and feeling the heat sizzle between them like a lightning bolt coming to ground. Or maybe that was just her. It was yet to be known for sure – as she had said before, assumptions were doomed to remain as such until proven. ”So if not rebellion, what motivates you and your... preferences?” It was dangerous territory, and she wouldn't be surprised if Lillith didn't answer, but she'd be damned if she lied to herself about not wanting to know.
Flirting seemed to open up a new channel of conversation, which disguised itself as 'business' and Lillith asking about her work, at least originally. Then, after Reminy gave what she hoped was a sufficient answer, she was teased. Subtly, of course, but still teased. And she enjoyed it. ”Being a woman who sought to own her own publishing company in the man's world that was the 1940s might suggest a desire for both; the enjoyment of one's work and a need to defy expectations. But I like to be unique.” Her eyebrow quirked and she smiled, a unrestricted, open thing, and hopefully enjoy to let Lillith know that she'd gotten her original meaning behind the question. One couldn't be so stupid as to come right out and say 'way to be a tease' because that would certainly lose respect or interest – both of which, in her mind, would be terrible losses. Still, Reminy wasn't sure that she had garnered any respect or interest, but she was certainly trying. Not too hard as to make herself seem desperate, but in a way that reminded her of a distinctly uphill battle – but the payoff would be so worth it, if she managed to get to the top.
The back-and-forth between the two women became almost like a game as they continued to talk 'shop' with one another, and Reminy was a little flattered that Lillith took an interest in what she did or her motivations behind it, even if she did not agree. Hell, even if she was pretending to be interested just to continue their conversation, Reminy would have been a little flattered simply because that attention was more than most people got, and she was convinced that this was now far beyond simple courtesy to tolerate a friend's progeny. ”Are you in the business of repairing things, then? Because you seem to have quite a bit of experience.” Reminy took a bite of her food, moaning softly because it really was delicious, and she enjoyed the finer things in life. She was unabashed, because surprisingly enough – even to her – she was rather comfortable in Lillith's company. She noticed the way the older woman handled her wine glass, and slipped in a more blatant compliment. ”It was a curiosity partially because I couldn't help but notice how lovely your hands are – they look like they could be rather capable of many things. Great and terrifying feats, both.” As they finished their meal, Reminy took the last compliment about her newest endeavor in stride, smiling and thanking her quietly. Conversation was slower then, until they both finished, had more wine, and Reminy brought up another charged question that could house whatever meaning Lillith wanted.
”Were you in the mood for dessert?”

Reminy seemed to be quick with the feedback. Quick on her toes. It was a skill that Lillith appreciated in the people she bothered to speak to. Why shouldn’t she bother with this one? The little brunette was proving to be good company, intelligent and sophisticated. She even bothered, in her small way, to attempt arguing with Lillith. Not usually a wise decision, but the show of spirit intrigued her, if nothing else. It was different than what she was used to. But in the same breath that Reminy was rebellious, she was also submissive. An interesting balance. She knew what buttons to avoid pushing, and how to be appealing without being disrespectful. Occasionally, there was a fine line. Should the little vampire go too far, well, Lillith would have no issue with educating the young woman about just how the pecking order worked in the vampiric kingdom. Food chain, and all of that. Lillith smiled internally at the realization that Reminy was likely a good businesswoman, at least in part, because she could tactfully deliver disagreement with compliments. Much like she was trying to do now. And while the compliment didn’t go unnoticed, the hybrid merely nodded her head with a small smile. ’With age, comes experience. When you have lived as long as I have, I’m certain you will be up to the same standards. As to proving such a thing… just how would you suggest I do that?’ The lawyer was genuinely curious to see what her companion would come up with, in terms of response. How could she possibly hope to prove that she was just as picky- if not more so- about her company, than Reminy herself was? An interesting thought, certainly. But perhaps not as interesting in Reminy’s professed appreciation for the things that were forbidden.
Lillith shook her head with a slight chuckle. ’And just whom, darling, has forbade you anything?’ Perhaps somebody had tried, once or twice in her lifetime. But Lillith would place a rather hefty bet on the fact that very little had been denied this semi-pampered princess. At least since she had become a vampire. With power, came certain luxuries. Especially since she had been turned by Noelle, who wanted nothing more than to spoil her progeny. Lillith had never made another. Perhaps that was selfish of her, but she had never felt the need to keep one of her multiple lovers forever, and had never felt the desire to be responsible for the creation of another being. It was a similar reasoning to why she had no love for children. She lacked the desire to have that kind of tie to another person. One that they didn’t choose to give her. Whereas when she took a lover, that was something more closely related to a business arrangement… While that made it sound less than romantic, such was untrue. She did genuinely adore and appreciate those that gave themselves to her, and they, in turn, did the same. But to find one was a little more difficult than one might think, given her preferences and particularities. Which the young vampire seemed interested in, on something more than a polite level. ’Desire. I’m motivated by my own enjoyment and desire. Things that I want. Rebellion for rebellion’s sake? Pointless.’ And oh, the slight reaction Reminy had at Lillith’s use of one little flammable word… A precious thing. One that inspired more flirting between the two of them. More flirting that went into talk of Reminy’s business. Which Lillith could take a genuine interest in, given her profession, and the fact that she was occasionally a courteous person to those she deemed worthy.
’Individuality. A need to stand out, through the ages. Not uncommon, but at least you do it in a way that is useful and appealing, rather than outlandish and ridiculous. Most would just resort to being obnoxious to get attention to prove their uniqueness. At least you are more subtle.’ She smiled softly, a gentle tease in the words. Subtle. Well, perhaps she was not actually so subtle in reality, but Lillith wondered at how she would interpret the sentiment behind them. It was almost a compliment. She was praising the young vampire for being classy, in a roundabout way. Perhaps Reminy would see that, perhaps not. But the business-minded young woman kept her attention focused, and asked LIllith about her own business, in a manner of speaking. ’I have quite a bit of experience repairing things. That all depends, however, on whether or not I deem them worthy of repair. Some things, based on some careful clues, can be easily discarded and filed under the heading, ‘beyond saving.’’ She took a sip of her wine, punctuating the semi-callous statement. Some had trouble letting go of things, whether for one attachment or another, but Lillith was not that way. Had never been that way. One had to learn to adapt and evolve if one was to survive in a world that was constantly changing and developing. Apparently, the movement of her hands was enough to garner more of Reminy’s attention, and a compliment that was more obviously a compliment, rather than a veiled one. Lillith glanced at her own hands, the subject of the compliment, tilting her head softly as though she didn’t know what they looked like. ’Thank you. The scariest things can often come in the more appealing packages. Like venus fly traps, birds of prey, big cats… all beautiful, all deadly. But the hands are capable of a great many things, not just limited to powerful displays. Occasionally, they can be rather softly talented.’ She grinned, a tiny display that let her companion know the words had a double meaning to them as well, not so greatly disguised as they had been previously. They were getting closer and closer to outright and blatant flirtation, rather than the veiled and hidden variety. Time was equaling comfort. And daring… Reminy even had the courage- though it may not have seemed like a particularly brave question- to ask Lillith if she wanted dessert.
’I am, actually. The chefs here are quite talented, and I’m not in any rush to end our impromptu evening together.’ A brief nod to the waiter, and they were graced with dessert menus, and their dinner plates were swept away in short order.
