He'd tried multiple times before to die, nothing had worked. Alcohol poisoning, stabbing, drowning, nothing did. If he inhaled water, he just coughed it back up, and that wasn't an experience he preferred to repeat, felt like he was suffocating, but wouldn't die, just got to suffer till his lungs were clear. Thoughts drifted back to that before he rapidly smothered them, not wanting to go there at this moment in time. The only thing on his mind then was Ellie, and just her. What she was thinking - wasn't all that hard to find. At least he didn't think so. Well, then again he could read her mind. Tilting his head ever so slightly, as if wanting to get a better angle to see Ellie from, Christian whispered softly, "Nothing hurts me Ellie...especially a bottle."
he smiled weakly, uneasily, wanting to reassure her. He would be perfectly fine physically, though mentally and emotionally could be a bit different. Mentally, he liked to think he was pretty sane, he'd seen Silence of the Lambs and Halloween and all those movies, and Batman and such, he liked to think he was pretty normal, since he didn't go around dressed as a guy in a bat suit and be a vigilante. Plus it just wasn't his style, not after 2,000 years on this bloody earth. One that people claimed they were all destroying with coal and such. Good, then he would perish. But if he did, then others would too - innocents would. Like Ellie. A flare of protectiveness floated over him and settled down in his system. He'd confirmed it then, he would make sure Ellie was safe and sound and that no harm ever came to her again as much as he could help it - without practically following her to class and sitting next to her. That would be excessive, extremely excessive in his books. He then heard her thoughts, being immortal, one thing people craved for these days. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be. If you were caught, there would be tests, you'd be a lab rat till the facility was finished, or you somehow died. That he wouldn't let happen, therefore, a move and a name change was all it took once in awhile. Shifting softly, he spoke softly, hardly realizing he'd answered one of her thoughts, "I'd like to go ahead and say that I think we're both just perfectly sane, just in an insane world." After he answered, she suddenly spoke, jabbing at him. Again. A dark look painted itself over his features for a split second as he quickly wiped it off the moment he realized it was settling down over him. The Immortal heard her comment and digested it. The reason why it probably stung more - was because it was true. He understood, it wasn't like they had known each other for five years. It was five days, and back before they hadn't even exchanged names. Nevertheless, he was persistent, and he liked it when he managed to get things to go his way, or at least to enjoy himself while he didn't get to have things go his way. Like right now. Ellie was stubborn, like him - which he didn't mind, it kept him on his toes, and actually made him work for things now. Hesitating, he then answered, "Then how about this, how about you and me go for lunch? Not dinner...just lunch." Dark eyes landed on her silently, purely curious to see what she'd say. He had a feeling she'd say no, and he felt a sliver of hope go through his body, probably showing up on his features for a moment before he feigned being nonchalant. Without his help, she got up and spoke, thanking him once more, he dismissed it, "Never mind that, it's okay." Personally - he had enjoyed kicking someone's butt. Christian hadn't done that in awhile. Actually, yeah, in some years. Thank goodness he remembered everything. Thank you memory, he thought smugly to himself, then Ellie brushed past him, announcing she could handle it from here. Grinning deviously, and innocently at the same time, something he'd worked on, Christian spoke, "Good, but either way you're stuck with me till another two streets if you're going straight still, since my place is this way." he gave her an innocent look. It was a slight lie, but it was true too, he did live on that street, just pretty far down when he turned off this one onto his own street. Eying her quietly, he then spoke, holding out his hands, as if opening the path for Ellie to walk, "I'll walk twenty paces behind if you'd like...besides, I don't think I fully trust you being able to walk all the way, you...you seemed shaky back there, Ellie." Yeah, he probably liked how her name rolled off his tongue a little too much. He didn't care. It was a nice name. Remaining silent, he let her decide, figuring the worse, but he didn't mind, as long as he got to keep an eye on her for a few at least, make sure her legs were steady enough to get her home. The young woman had always been pretty talented at reading people’s feelings. She liked to think that it was because she herself was too much of an open book; it was only fair that she should be able to do the same towards others. That was not the case however. Ellie was simply over observant, paying attention to every small detail that others wouldn’t even being to notice. Every so often, Christian got this look in his eyes, like he was no longer focusing on the present, his attention on whatever he was thinking. That happened after Ellie pulled her hand away from him and she could only begin to guess at what was going on in his mind. Curiosity would be the death of her someday, despite the fact that she wasn’t a cat. Just as she was wondering if she should try to get Christian’s attention, he snapped back to reality. Ellie took in his feeble smile and interpreted it as him being unsure about that statement. While nothing could physically injure him, it didn’t mean that nothing could harm him.
Forgetting that she was mad at him and that she felt slightly betrayed, Ellie leaned forward and hugged Christian. It was a quick hug, so quick that it might not even be correct to consider it as one. He smelled really good, and was as equally as nice to hug. She decided that she could add that to her list of facts about Christian. As she pulled back, Ellie smiled a small smile at him. If he were truly immortal, Ellie couldn’t even begin to comprehend how much pain he must’ve felt as people he knew or possibly even loved grew old and died while he remained unchanged. But then the feeling of compassion was pushed to the back of her mind when Christian repeated something similar to what she had been thinking. Either it was an uncanny coincidence, or Christian could actually read her mind. Unfortunately, Ellie didn’t believe in the existence of both so it was a lesser of two evil things. A happenstance would make more sense and was more likely to exist. Christian didn’t seem to do the logical thing though. If he was Immortal, who was to say that he didn’t have some other super power? Ellie could be reading into the entire thing way too much. Her thoughts and feelings weren’t that hard to guess and Christian might’ve picked up on that. Now wasn’t really the time to worry about it, seeing as how there were other pressing matters at hand. She’d shove this little tidbit into the back of her mind, promising that she’d bring up the subject again had she had the chance to.
What right did he have to ask her to lunch? Did he want to be rejected? It certainly seemed like that. Maybe he was just pulling her strings, getting a kick out of putting her in an uncomfortable situation. Because while Ellie might seem mean and rude, she was rarely intentionally. It was kind of like a fight or flight response for her, a defensive movement and not an active attack. A question like that placed in the context it was was an example of a provocation. Ellie opened her mouth to say no and to tell him to stop being a jerk. Then she caught the hopeful look before it hid behind a blank wall and it froze the words in Ellie’s throat. Christian wasn’t intentionally being an annoyance, which made it that much harder. Besides, the more Ellie thought about it, the more she realized that she really wouldn’t mind seeing him again, if only to get another chance to figure him out and to ask him her questions. What could one lunch date do anyway? “Fine. Lunch and lunch only. When and where?” Ellie asked, staring at Christian in hopes of seeing him caught off guard. If he was as good at hiding his emotions as he seemed, it was a lost cause, but she couldn’t stop herself from looking anyways.
Now Christian was going to babysit her for at least part of her walk home? He really knew how to make Ellie experience forty different moods in a short amount of time. She was already slightly regretting agreeing to lunch, but she wouldn’t take that back. “I guess nothing I can say will make you think differently, will it?” The answer would be no and Ellie briefly considered walking home a different way, just so Christian wouldn’t have the excuse of his house being that way as well. The only problem was that Ellie would have to go way out of her way to make it inconvenient for him and in all honesty, she just wanted to be home safe.
“If you’re going to insist on following me, at least walk up here so I don’t feel like I’m being stalked.” Ellie paused in her walking for a few moments, giving Christian the chance to catch up. She wouldn’t admit it, but it felt nice being able to have someone to walk home with – if only part of the way. Much safer too.

It was only for a brief moment, but that's all it took for Christian to realize how - weird and different his emotions seemed to spike when their hug happened. Even if it was only a moment, Christian was fully hooked. Fluid movement allowed him to briefly hug her back in mild surprise when she'd hugged him, but it was soon over just as quickly as it had started. The Immortal remained silent, watching Ellie's reaction quietly, seeing her eyes seem to sudden shift, change and lighten up. Then, she formed words - just not in a way he had imagined she would. Elli had accepted his offer. She'd accepted to go to lunch with him. Though she emphasized lunch only, he still felt an emotion of excitement and also relief flow through him. He regained his composure, not wanting to appear as excited as he really was. Christian grinned lightly, "Riveting..."
he paused, "You pick when, and as for where, well...it's across from here, along the river here." he smiled sheepishly, "The River Garden, heard of it?" It was a nice restaurant, but casual, one thing he loved about it, one could go in there in jeans and a t-shirt, or a pair of slacks if they wanted. Eying her curiously, he was interesting to hear what she had to say. Straightening his frame, he was about to go check on the men, though as he glanced towards the trio of them, still unconscious, he was tempted to get some paper and a pen and leave a note for the person to describe them to call the cops and get them off the streets. They were most likely wanted for something. Shooting a glare their way, he then fully turned back to Ellie, listening to her inquire about him saying no anyway. A coy grin fell along his lips before he could stop it and the male responded, stuffing both his hands into his pockets keenly, "Yeah, you're right." He flashed a playful grin at her, as he paused when the girl started to walk away, his eyes falling on the guys again. The smell of alcohol was evident, so he wasn't too concerned with them remembering his face. Especially him being able to get hit by bullets and survive as easily as he had. Or if they did remember some of it, they'd probably figure it was the booze. Swiftly turning from them, he then realized she was a decent distance, and she had paused, turning to face him and shoot a remark his way. Feeling like a child who had been invited to go to the fair with his parents, Christian eyed her, acting like a cat, they never came when they were called, only when they felt like it. Course when Ellie called, Christian had a feeling he'd eagerly come to her even if it was zero degrees out and all he was wearing was a towel. Taking partially eager and large strides, Christian fell to her side, speaking, a teasing tone in his voice, "So I've been upgraded from being a stalker?" Allowing a light smile across his features, the Immortal scanned the surrounding buildings, as some vendors were closing up for the night, his eyes lingered on one for a moment, their aura troubled him, and his eyes had lingered on Ellie longer than Christian appreciated it. He stopped in mid-step, placing his hand on Ellie's back, between her shoulder blades, signaling her to keep moving as Christian shot the man a death glare, before wiping it off his features, a nonchalant look falling along his features as he walked patiently with Ellie, the hand on the opposite side of her placing itself in his pocket, while the other one just dangled, swinging slightly as most people's hands did, unless they were holding onto something. "Thank you for letting me walk you home, Ellie." he mused quietly after a few moments, making sure he wouldn't cut her off or anything. He remained silent, letting her respond if she wanted, and he then spoke, "Is there a time limit on lunch tomorrow?" a devious look fell in his features, though he'd never give it away, as it faded and settled in his dark eyes, which locked onto Ellie. They were nearing his street supposedly, though he really had no intention of turning away yet, not until he knew Ellie would be safe. Making this evident, Christian remained by her side eagerly, though didn't alter his course of movement at all, besides staying right by her, leaving it open for her to speak if she pleased. Despite the fact that Ellie had initiated the hug, she was surprised when Christian hugged her back. He really didn’t seem like the touchy-feely type at all. She was happy that he had though, happier than she rightfully should be. It should’ve lasted longer too, though that was of Ellie’s own doing. Besides, then things would’ve just gotten weird, or at least she thought they would’ve. Had she been hoping for any display of emotion from him, Ellie was sorely disappointed. She hated how people could be so composed, like they had to put up some sort of front to impress other people. There was little emotion on Christian’s face now, leaving her guessing about the hug. It was the same with the whole lunch date as well; he was calm about it, only offering a small smile, like it hadn’t mattered if Ellie had said yes or no but he was happy that she had.
“Yeah, I’ve heard of it. Nice choice.” Truthfully, Ellie had never been in The River Garden, but she had heard the name and had talked to other people who had been there. Good food, laid back atmosphere; it was the perfect place for a casual lunch date. Had it been anything fancy, Ellie would’ve rejected it on the spot. While she liked to pretend that she was elegant, she wasn’t, and she would’ve most likely felt extremely uncomfortable. And irritable because of it. That didn’t make for a good situation. Besides, Ellie didn’t do the fancy restaurant scene if she could help it. In fact, she rarely went out to eat. Today at the diner had been a rare occurrence, mostly because she needed to be out of the house and had run out of places to go. Ellie just didn’t have the money for it. And there was no way she was going to let Christian pay for her meal at lunch. “Is one o’clock ok? We could meet there.”
She couldn’t help but smile when Christian caught up to her, matching her pace almost exactly. Ellie would be lying if she said Christian didn’t put her in a good mood, and quickly at that. While Ellie wasn’t one to hold grudges, she also wasn’t quick to forgive and forget. It was a different story with Christian apparently, she hadn’t been mad at him for more than five minutes. Ellie laughed at his comment, a full and rich laugh. “Don’t get too excited there, bub. Think of the promotion as more of a trial run.” That was how Ellie was seeing things right now; she needed to get to know Christian better and form an educated opinion on him instead of jumping to conclusions. But if he turned out to be someone different than Ellie had thought, someone for the worse, then she wouldn’t hesitate to drop him.
Yet, the more time the young brunette spent around him, the more it seemed to be impossible to form a negative opinion about him. He was protective, a quality that Ellie was finding that she enjoyed. She had never really had that before, her family not being the typical, happy, and functional one. Now, Ellie had learned to take care of herself. For example, she felt the eyes of the vendor on her, something that wasn’t uncommon – though don’t take that as a vain comment. Ellie knew that, while she didn’t think she was all that attractive, she somehow captured the attention of those she’d prefer not to. If she had been alone, Ellie would’ve either ignored the creepy vendor or would’ve made some sardonic comment to show that she wasn’t bothered by it. Still, it was nice to know that there was a person around who cared enough to do that for her.
Ellie found herself smiling again, even laughing a tiny bit. “I didn’t have a choice.” The annoyance that would usually follow a statement like that was absent. She was glad that he had walked home with her, even though his street was coming up soon. Ellie reached out and lightly laced her fingertips with Christian’s. It wasn’t that much of a hand hold, something Christian could easily disengage himself from had he felt the need to. It was a silent form of a thank you, something meant to enhance the gratitude in her next statement. They were nearing his street, but it was obvious that Christian had no plans to turn down it yet. While she felt bad about making him go out of his way, Ellie appreciated it too. “I should be thanking you. I don’t think anyone has ever cared whether or not I’ve gotten home safe.” The somber tone that Ellie had used previously was gone in an instant when Christian asked about a time limit. “I think there has to be, or it wouldn’t be lunch anymore. You don’t really want to spend all that much time with me anyways.” She believed that she was a hard person to spend a lot of time around, thought that she got boring after a while or annoying. Ellie would be surprised if he didn’t get that feeling before the end of lunch.
They were beginning to near the part of town that started to get bad. Ellie’s oh so lovely house was a little deeper in that section. The house itself wasn’t horrible, just small and located in a less than ideal location. It was about the only thing that she and her mother could afford, and the closest to the college, though it was still a pretty good hike. Ellie liked to walk to it though in an attempt to save gas money for other things. Ellie stopped at the edge of her street, turning to look at Christian. “I know my way home from here. You don’t really want to go back there.” Ellie wasn’t as worried about the house itself – though it wasn’t something she tended to show off – but her mother’s reaction. She’d go ballistic, calling Ellie a slut for bringing some guy home and yelling at Christian about corrupting her daughter. And by her daughter, she meant built in slave. It had happened once before, when Ellie had made the mistake of bringing her boyfriend home. He broke up with her soon after the incident. Mrs. Alston didn’t really care about her daughter’s well-being; the man could be a perfectly good guy or a complete crack head, and they’d get the same treatment. What her mother was really afraid of was losing Ellie to someone else, which would essentially leave her all alone. Ellie wasn’t going to put Christian through that, not if she could help it.
Note: Aw, yes they are! They're too adorable for their own good.

karma police, arrest this manHE TALKS IN MATHS.HE BUZZES LIKE A FRIDGE.HE'S LIKE A DE-TUNED RADIO.• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Falling silent when Ellie opened her mouth, he remained quiet while she spoke what she wanted to. She had complimented the River Garden. He couldn't help but smile somewhat, mainly wanting to answer silently, since sometimes, like now, he didn't feel like speaking. Tuning in and slightly hearing her thoughts, he caught it about the River Garden, how if he had picked a fancier place, she would have said no. A small smile fell onto his lips at that idea. He wouldn't have anyway, he knew she most likely wasn't those types of girls who loved getting dressed up - or so she appeared to be. But after so many centuries on this earth, it wasn't smart to judge a book by its cover. Sighing softly, he perked when she mentioned one o'clock tomorrow, the Immortal smiled, "Sounds just fine to me, I presume I'll meet you there?"
He threw an innocent grin her way, as if to let her know he was partially serious and partially kidding. Either way he wouldn't mind picking her up, it wasn't like she was terribly out of his way, but with the River Garden being right on the river, and gas prices, it was just a polite offer. He eyed her curiously, before shifting his gaze to where he was walking, not wanting to run into a light pole or anything. That would not be fun, and plus he had heard some people screaming at a game above them a few apartments back. People didn't like it when their team was tied in the 4th quarter of a game and someone took out their electricity. He'd done that by accident once when he'd been a handy-man for multiple people, and boom, he took out their power, only to restore it about five minutes later, which was five minutes too many for them. Then he had "accidentally" slashed their tires when he left after the person "fired" him from working there again and barred him from seeing their daughter, whom Christian had been seeing for 5 months prior. Anger sparked for a moment, before his dark-hazel eyes landed on Ellie silently, always making sure to keep an ear tuned to her, making sure whenever she spoke he was always listening. Upon her calling him bub, Christian couldn't help but laugh, who was it that had said that? Oh right, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, grinning, he spoke, "Wonderful, how long is the trial run, Logan?" He teased, hoping she got the reference, if not - eh, he'd just explain it and feel like a bit of a nerd. Nonetheless, he had been around when the comic books came out, and people freaked, it was like the stupid cabbage patch kids. His forehead wrinkled at the pandemonium things like that caused, and then he linked it to how Ellie made him feel, like she was too good for him, but deep down, he knew he really did appreciate her for everything that she was. He gave her a coy grin at her comment about not having a choice, and winked coyly, "Yeah...you're pretty much right." Christian's attention wavered between her and their surroundings, making sure to keep an eye on her and things that could cause her harm. It was curious, how easy it seemed to be with her, and how time seemed to slip by, like when he worked on a car, time slipped by faster, and with Ellie, it certainly did. But he was with an actual person instead of an inanimate object. A nice change, but inanimate objects lasted a lot more than humans did. At this thought a depressed look fell on his features, just before he felt her fingers curl with his. It wasn't a hand-hold, it was more of a thank you, and he certainly didn't mind. Keeping his fingers there, he silently let her see he didn't mind, and particularly enjoyed it. He liked to try and limit his human contact, since humans were so fragile, even though he didn't really have super strength or anything, it still felt like even if he looked at them wrong, they would break in two. He felt like when he looked at Ellie, she could easily withstand that, like she could withstand a hurricane, give it a sharp look and walk away. Smiling silently at this thought, he heard her mention the time limit, he swiftly answered, "Don't you worry about thanking me, Ellie. I'll take you getting home safe and sound as one." then the time limit, and gave her a light look, "Oh really? Then, if you feel positive enough, care to place a wager?" a grin spread across his lips, "How about this, if I ask you for a second date, after going through the whole lunch with you, you accept. If I don't make it through lunch, then you won't hear from me again." his eyes locked onto hers, "Or change the wager, but I'm that positive, Ellie, that I will enjoy our lunch tomorrow." The duo kept walking. They walked till they reached a part of town Christian recognized immediately. A part of town he often walked through and sometimes helped out around in the kitchens here and what-not, seeing what he could do to help out once in awhile. Then there were the houses, ones which he liked seeing the older houses, knowing just how many years he had over them most of the time. Ellie's aura changed the moment they got deeper into it, and the nearer Christian had gotten to her the deeper they moved into the area. He was moderately close to her now, a puppy not wanting its owner to depart. Ellie had to go though, and she probably - hopefully - had a good reason as to why she didn't want him to keep going with her. Placing his hand in his pocket, the hand opposite of Ellie, Christian responded, catching something from her head about her mother going ballistic, "Are you sure? I will resort to stalking you a bit from here at least, keep my conscience clear." he gave a weak smile, thinking, hoping it wasn't written too clearly on his face, I'd never forgive myself if something happened to you. He lingered for a moment, watching her quietly, letting her go ahead as she pleased, but he'd still make sure she got home, since he understood her reason, whatever it was, it was hers and hers alone, and he'd respect that. God. His smile was adorable. Absolutely so, and Ellie decided she wouldn’t mind seeing it more. Though there was the small thought in the back of her mind, how many other girls had been swept up in that smile. And how many of those girls fell head over heels for Christian and which ones he had felt the same about. Or, truthfully, the one he still felt that way about. Ellie didn’t know whether or not Christian was even single. Though, even as she thought it, Ellie wasn’t jealous. It actually didn’t bother her in the slightest. The only reason Ellie had even thought about it to begin with was simply because she was an inquisitive girl. She observed a fact and interpreted it, which always got her thinking. She just couldn’t help it. Ellie wasn’t sure that she’d even be able to turn that part off her mind off if she wanted to. She grinned at Christian’s innocent smile. Every time he sent one like that her way, she felt as though it was anything but innocent, like there was always something behind it. “Yeah, we’ll meet there. ” She had no intentions of letting Christian pick her up. She didn’t really want to drive over either and would most likely walk. The college girl would walk anywhere her feet could take her.
Then Christian was silent. Silent for the multiple time in that day. Ellie wanted to know where his mind was. Where it kept going and what was so interesting. It was like little things reminded him of something else completely and he mentally drifted away while he was still physically with her. She saw a quick flash of emotion in his eyes – thought it was much too quick for her to pinpoint what it was – and then he was back to the present. One of these days, she’d ask him exactly what he thought about when he went away on his mental journeys. And then, just as quickly as Christian had drifted away, he was back. It was obvious that he had been listening, seeing as how, was he not only able to respond to what she had said, but picked up on every word of it. “X-Men? Didn’t take you as a nerd,” Ellie said in a voice that matched Christian’s playful tone. And she hadn’t. He seemed much too dignified, too mature to even look at a comic book. Ellie had, by accident one day. It was one of those times where she was just trying to read everything she could get her hands on. She had gone to a used book store where she could get a good number of books for the money she might’ve spent on one. An X-Men comic book had been shoved inside one of the books and Ellie believed it was fate. From then on, she made a habit of reading all the comics she could. Just added to her whole dorky image. “As far the trial run? Until you prove yourself.” She wanted to leave her answer vague, keep Christian on his toes and all that jazz. Basically, she just wanted to be a pain, something she did well.
“Do you really have to be so stubborn? You could just accept the ‘thank you’ and be done with it.” Like most things, Ellie said the first part in an enquiring tone. Of course there was most likely no reason for Christian to be stubborn; that was just a part of his personality. Though he still could just accept the thank you, but Ellie wasn’t annoyed that he didn’t. She was actually slightly flattered by the fact that he had taken responsibility over her safety unasked, even though she didn’t need it.
Ellie was a competitive girl, though it was a fact that she wouldn’t admit. Not because she did not like the attribute, but because she was in denial over it. The brunette didn’t think she was competitive; she just liked to be right. “That’s a steep bargain there. Are you sure you’re up to it?” Ellie stared back at Christian, unflinching. She was never one who backed down from challenges, especially when stakes got high. “It’s a deal.” Ellie smiled up at Christian, sure that she was going to win. Though she wasn’t sure she was okay with the terms. It’d all depend on how well lunch went tomorrow. And even though the young woman was confident that she’d win, she hoped that Christian would. It might’ve been the first bet that she had ever wanted to lose.
The further into Ellie’s neighborhood they ventured, the more anxious Ellie got. She really didn’t want Christian be anywhere close to her mother’s line of sight. It was cute though, how much the space had diminished between the two the further they got into the neighborhood. But Ellie really didn’t need the protection that Christian seemed insistent on giving to her. She had spent every single year of her twenty years of life living in this house and had taken care of herself for most of them. While this wasn’t the best area of town, Ellie had walked through it alone more times than she could count. Hell, she had walked all over this city by herself. Today had been a freak accident due to the fact that she had ignored her common sense. Ellie should’ve left the diner before dark and on any other day, she would’ve. So, while Christian’s concern was appreciated, it was unnecessary. Ellie turned around so she was walking backwards and facing Christian’s, still keeping her hand in light contact with his. “Do you want to be demoted back to stalker?” She teased, smiling but still slightly serious. “I promise I can make it home by myself. It’s not that far, just a block or two more. I'm a big girl.” It was really in Christian’s best interest to not meet Mama Alston tonight. Or ever for that matter, if Ellie could help it. “You’ve already gone out of your way.”

They helped him a lot, and especially to remember vague stuff too, stuff he didn't think about till he cracked open a journal and browsed through it. For some reason though, as he locked his eyes onto Ellie, he didn't get that feeling, which was refreshing and curious at the same time. He really wanted to hear what she had to say, what was on her mind - if he didn't hear it. Maybe it might be a little too soon to mention he could read her mind, or maybe it would be better to mention it at lunch tomorrow. His mind began to work on the options, until Ellie opened her mouth, and he intently listened to her words. "Fine with me."
an understanding smile flashed her way, silently telling her he really didn't mind. Just an offer. He repeated that in his head, as he remained near Ellie, though not too close, but close enough where he thought was all right, plus the fact that he didn't want to be too far from her, for multiple reasons. "Just because I know who Logan is..." he chuckled lightly, eagerly keeping his fingers with hers, in their half-hand-hold or what-ever it was, nonetheless, he didn't mind, and particularly - enjoyed it. "There's a lot you don't know about me." he added, looking in front of them, away from her for a moment, then back to Ellie, "As I'm sure there's a lot I know know about you either." It was true. They rarely knew each other, but at least they were working on getting to know each other. For example, she was in college still, which placed her age anywhere from nineteen to twenty-three or twenty-four. He didn't place her a day over twenty-two though. Just fine nonetheless, he was posing as a twenty-three to twenty-four-year-old. Realizing what he was doing, he stamped the age numbers out of his head, just so that he could respond to Ellie's comment, "Aww, okay then." he put into a mock-pout, before after he said that he flashed a short grin, "All I ask is that I'm given plenty of opportunities to prove myself." he chuckled softly. It would be nice, but then again, one thing he was already really liking about Ellie, was her - willpower. Yes, a good word to describe it. Most girls now a days enjoyed relaxing and not handling a friendship (except with other girls) and even a relationship (which he wasn't placing this as, just a friendship), letting the guy do all the stuff, and plus, they'd much rather someone else stand up for them - not Ellie - well - most of the time they did. He figured Ellie most likely didn't, then that just made him curious about her past. What made her become as she was today? "Yeah, I do." Christian flashed a devious grin her way, "C'mon, it wouldn't be as fun if I just did, besides, I'm still not." he spoke, putting it bluntly at the end, making sure she still knew he wasn't. Christian eyed her when she mentioned the bargain, and he nodded solemnly. It was a deal. Excellent. His mind began to work quickly, placing in variables and such, then he mentally reminded himself that he could easily win this, after all - he was beginning to really enjoy his time with her, right now even. Course, by the look of her aura changing and her worried thoughts, they were getting close to her house. That meant he'd have to turn back, and end this. At least for tonight though, tomorrow began a whole other chance to get to know Ellie, and for her to get to know him. Suddenly, her words at him being demoted, he put on a "don't-you-threaten-me-with-that" look, before shrugging, "Depends if I'll need to be or not." Christian paused slightly, hearing her words, taking them in carefully, and he nodded, as they slowed to a stop, eyes landing on Ellie's silently, "Just fine with me then, Ellie." he liked her name, how it seemed to roll off his tongue. He raised his hand opposite of her when she spoke, "Don't you mention it, walking is something I've done for awhile." he smiled gently, then spoke, "I'll see you tomorrow then, at one at the River Garden." Christian beamed at this thought, not bothering to hide the excitement that he got to see her again. “You better not be late,” Ellie warned, a slight smile on her face. She hated when people were late and did everything in her power to not be one of those. Sure, there were some circumstances where it was absolutely impossible to be on time and Ellie understood that. And then there were those people who chose to be late, or waited to actually get ready and go much longer than they really had time for. “I swear I’ll leave if you’re a half hour late. No questions asked.” And while all of this was said in a teasing manner, Ellie absolutely meant it. She wouldn’t even wait for Christian, not if he was wasting her time. The only way she’d forgive him is if he actually had a legitimate excuse.
Ellie couldn’t help but laugh at the half-denial that Christian was a nerd. “Don’t get all defensive over it; only makes you look more guilty,” Ellie joked, lightly bumping Christian’s arm with her own. She secretly hoped that he was slightly darkish. Made him seem more real to her. Not that he wasn’t, because Christian was very obviously an actual human being. But as she had thought before, he seemed so poised and proper and mature. And then he was sweet and seemingly protective, handsome to boot. For some girls, this was their dream guy all wrapped into one convenient package. The whole Mr. Right bit was what gave him a somewhat mystically quality, Ellie supposed. If he had a fault – though Ellie wouldn’t consider it as that – then he seemed much more tangible and accessible. Ellie agreed with his statement that she didn’t know him, nor did he her. That was the point of lunch though, wasn’t it?
That pout, which many tried but few could pull off successfully without making themselves look like bratty three year olds, worked for Christian. And, as Ellie was beginning to realize, what didn’t? She typically didn’t get along with people who were too beautiful for their own good, finding them vain and very into themselves before thinking about other people. She didn’t want to associate with people who had no depth to them. Made for a very uninteresting time. Had things not gone the way they had tonight, Ellie would’ve wrote him off after the library or even possibly the diner, assuming he fell into that category. But Christian had proved her wrong, being much more than a shallow man and it was one of the few times that Ellie actually enjoyed being right. “I am giving you chance. I accepted to go to lunch, didn’t I?” And as long as lunch went well – though to be more precise, as long as Christian won their little wager – he’d get more opportunities than he could even count.
“Has anyone ever told you that you are a brat?” Ellie asked, wondering if anyone had ever called him such. It just typically wasn’t something most people did. Some girls might’ve found his stubbornness endearing and completely ignored the fact that he was secretly a brat. Because Ellie was seriously starting to believe that he was one, deep down. She gave an innocent shrug when he gave her the look. “It was an honest question. I’m not saying you will be demoted, just that don’t expect to not be if you start to exhibit old qualities.” Even if he were to follow her home – so help him God that he didn’t – Ellie wouldn’t even think of dropping him down a level. She didn’t think he’d follow her though, not after she had been so insistent that he didn’t. Unless Christian was one of those people who ignored the wishes of others to make himself feel better. That, Ellie could not stand.
She gave Christian’s hand a slight squeeze. “Until tomorrow then,” the brunette said before letting go of his fingers completely. Ellie stayed standing in front of Christian for a moment or two, before smiling and turning around to walk home. She didn’t glance over her shoulder, hoping Christian would get the hint that she wasn’t waiting for him to silently follow behind until she got to her house. After a few minutes of walking down dark streets, Ellie made it to her house. The bright blue door was the only thing that looked new on the house and that was because a month or two ago, Ellie had decided to paint it in order to spruce the house up a bit. She was tired of it looking so depressing.
The young woman couldn’t keep the smile off of her face as she entered her house. Luckily, it seemed as if her mom was asleep or high in some other room. Otherwise, she would’ve been barraged by a million questions about where she had been and why she was so late. Ellie didn’t receive that line of questioning out of care, but because when she wasn’t at home, it took away from the time she could be playing babysitter to her mother. She walked back to her room without bothering to turn lights on in the house, hoping to keep her arrival from her mother in case she did wake up. Only once Ellie was in her room did she feel safe to put her purse down and take off her shoes, laying her bed to think about what had happened this evening.

he grinned sheepishly, before nodding, "I understand, Ellie. I shall not be late tomorrow." He remained silent, listening to both her and their surroundings, mostly curious to make sure everything was all right. As Ellie mentioned of having accepted his offer to lunch, the male looked her way and arched an eyebrow calmly, as if she really wanted him to answer that question. Well, she had, so he figured he shouldn't probably push his luck anymore. After all, he had a feeling the saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." applied quite easily with Ellie. She'd only do as much as she wanted, then she'd stop all together. "Well, not to my face." he admitted after a brief chuckle at her calling him a down-right brat. No, but he'd been called spoiled and cynical before, but he knew he was probably a few of those sometimes. And most of the time, they worked and got things to go how he wanted them to. Christian smiled softly when she gave his hand a squeeze and spoke, he then added, hovering there for a brief moment, "'Night, Ellie. See you tomorrow." - - - - - - - - - - "Thunder, you mule!" The Immortal snapped, as he latched on the Andalusian's bridle, before checking the saddle and then hopping onto the horse's back. Patting his nape, he sighed and urged him along into a gentle trot along the land, checking his watch smoothly. It was only 10 in the morning, and he was already up, and in a pair of jeans and a shirt, ready for the day. At least till 1 o'clock. At that thought a smile appeared on his features, though it faltered slightly, wondering if Ellie would stand him up or not. She seemed somewhat like the type, but she also seemed like the type to never go back on her word. Nevertheless, Christian then promised himself he'd work on ignoring her thoughts, and perhaps just focusing on someone else's. At Thunder Jumper's ears twitched, his pace picked up, and he realized the horse wanted to run. Placing his feet neatly in the stirrups, he clicked his tongue, "Fine, but the others will be jealous." Thunder, obviously ignored this as when Christian jerked the reins slightly, the beast took off, powerful legs carrying himself and his rider along the neatly trimmed grass. It was such a feeling he adored, just being able to ride a horse forever, he remembered breaking through forests with his horse in the Roman times, fighting against enemies, protecting his horse any way he can. After all, they were quite loyal animals if trained properly and not abused. After a good run, he brushed down the massive horse and untacked him, before setting him back in the pasture with the others, patting his rump as the horse took off. Christian's eyes checked his watch, as he headed inside and grabbed a swift shower and such, before eying the clothes he had picked out for today. It wasn't dressy, but it wasn't just a t-shirt and jeans either. One thing he really wasn't going for. Nonetheless, he changed after getting out of the shower, pacing himself. Maybe show up early. he thought to himself, and chuckled. Would Ellie? Grinning at this thought, he grabbed his wallet and cell phone, then headed downstairs as Sedona appeared through the doggy door he had installed for her, with the special collar on her neck that only let her in through the door. Patting the animal, he mused, "I'll be back later, Sedona." Eyes lifted as he then headed out to his car, knowing he really couldn't walk there - safely at least - plus he would need to do errands later - if Ellie wouldn't want to spend more time after lunch. After all, he planned on getting through lunch quite easily, and getting another date time with her. It wasn't a date. It was just lunch for goodness sake he told himself, as he parked his car a block away. It was nice out, why not? Placing both hands in the pockets of his pants, Christian headed towards the River Garden, getting there at 12:40, and he planned on taking his time to get there about 10 minutes early. Browsing some windows of a store, he tilted his head slightly, noticing an oddly-colored aura in there, before realizing it was a supernatural, based on the thoughts. Arching an eyebrow, he gave the male a look who had been eyeballing some jewels, a witch nonetheless. They always had a thing for gems and such, mostly for their potions. Smiling softly to himself, he stepped foot into the River Garden at 12:51, and he checked in with the hostess, more or less, he placed the River Garden as like an Applebee's, but there was a bigger outside section for days like this - but warmer. Scowling at the sky, he requested to stay inside, which they eagerly agreed, then asked if he and the other wanted to sit at the bar. He paused, how old was Ellie anyway? Shrugging it off, Christian spoke, "Out of the bar, please." He'd never been one for drinking all that much anyway, not after 1308 or so. Drumming calmly on the counter, he sat down in the waiting area, after having scanned for Ellie, before they called his name, and he told them if a brunette with curly hair walked in and asked for him, to tell her where he was. A coy smile appeared on his lips, as he sat down near a window, letting the sun bathe him and the table in the light, even though it was lit in here as well, the natural light fell good. Sighing softly, he shrugged off his jacket before looking up, as he spotted a brunette enter the restaurant, and he hardly realized it, but a smile appeared on his lips. The moment Ellie approached, Christian jumped up, and spoke, "Hello, Ellie." he grinned lightly, tempted to go for her seat, but then he remembered it wasn't the 80s again, and most of the time women now a days preferred just to sit down. Damn, why didn't he just ask for a booth? That way he wouldn't had to have worried about pulling out the chair for her. Pausing, he hovered awkwardly for a moment, fighting with himself, before swiftly sitting down, eying Ellie lightly, "How are you doing so far today?" he smiled lightly, as a waitress came over and lowered the shades slightly so that the sun wasn't blinding them, thank goodness. Easily able to see Ellie better than just her aura and thoughts, Christian remained silent, letting Ellie speak and ask first if she wanted to. [/sup][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Today was turning out to be an absolute mess. It seemed as though Ellie’s mother had noticed that she had been missing for the most of the afternoon, but she had waited until 2 am that morning to make the fact known. Which was a lovely way to be woken up, in case anyone was wondering; having a 57 year old woman turn on the lights and come screaming and spitting into your room. Ellie had been having a pleasant dream, though she couldn’t remember what it was about. All she knew was that her mother had shattered a wonderful mood. The brunette really should’ve expected it. Her mother might not have realized how long she was gone for, but would’ve known that it had been too long. While her mother wasn’t the best person, she was bright. Too bright for her own good. You would’ve thought the pot and other drugs would’ve killed a good number of those brain cells, but not for Mary Alston. Speaking of drugs, Mary had taken something before entering Ellie’s room at such a rude hour. It was odd to think of a 57 year old woman taking drugs when she should’ve been baking chocolate chip cookies for her grandkids or something. Once a drug addict, always a drug addict, Ellie assumed. The only thing that was surprising was that the woman was still alive.
Regardless, Ellie had gotten yelled at for not being home, along with being accused of having a sexual relationship with a man. Though that had not happened, Mrs. Alston had somehow gotten it in her mind that Ellie ran around having sex with any member of the male gender. Maybe it was because her elder daughter had been like that. She went on screaming that Ellie better not get pregnant or she’d disown her daughter and kick her out of the house (none of which would actually happen because, one, Ellie wasn’t pregnant and two, if her mom kicked her out of the house, there’d be no one left to take care of the druggie). Ellie had screamed back at her and the two could really fight like cats and dogs when they went at it. About a half hour later or so, they were done yelling and forty five minutes after that, Mary had already forgotten that they had fought at all. It seemed as those drugs had killed a good amount of brain cells. She asked her daughter to make eggs for her, which Ellie found herself doing at four in the morning. Unable to go back to sleep after such an adrenaline rush, Ellie decided to go for a run.
The brunette wasn’t an avid runner, only actually going running when she felt like it. It was healthy, none the less, and she didn’t mind. Ellie changed into appropriate clothes and shoes and grabbed her dog, Duke, who wasn’t very happy at being woken up so early. Duke was a large German Sheppard, one that had previously been a stray but Ellie had taken in. She really didn’t have the money to care for a dog, especially one that ate as much as Duke did, but Ellie couldn’t let him just stay on the streets. Besides, once they got going, Duke loved running. And while Ellie had brought him along because he enjoyed such an activity, she mostly brought him for protection. While she wouldn’t let Christian see how much the whole almost mugging situation had shaken her up last night, she couldn’t get it out her mind. And seeing as how he wouldn’t swoop in and save her again if Ellie were to run into something like that again this morning, hopefully Duke would provide a deterrent.
It was still much too early for Ellie to even being thinking about getting ready. In all honesty, Ellie should really be in bed. She got showered though and grabbed some breakfast, with the plan of working on some homework or possibly reading for a few moments. At 6:45, she got a call from work saying that they had a situation and wondered if Ellie could come in and cover until 12:30. Whoever was supposed to come in had had a family emergency and wouldn’t be able to get there until 12:30 and for some reason, things were busy today. Ellie guessed a bowling alley could get busy in the morning, but was it so busy that whoever was there couldn’t handle it? They’d pay her double though if she could do it and even though the bowling alley was in the opposite direction from the River Garden, Ellie took it. She couldn’t turn up the money right now.
Slipping into her uniform and shoving clothes that she could change into later into a bag, Ellie got into her crappy car and drove to the bowling alley. It was absolutely horrible there. Some mother had decided to through a last minutes birthday party and there were children running and screaming all over the place. At least it had made time go by quickly. Ellie checked out and broke multiple traffic laws in an attempt to make it to the River Garden on time. She was honestly surprised that her car had made it through such an abusive trip. Ellie pulled up to the restaurant at 12:59 exactly, only to realize that any available parking was at least a block away. Absolutely lovely.
Ellie walked into the restaurant seven minutes later, hating the fact that she was late after telling Christian not to be. There was slight hope that maybe he too would be late and wouldn’t know that Ellie had been. That small bubble had been popped the second her eyes laid on the young man sitting a table. Ellie patted her hair once, trying to get the curls to lay a little flatter than they had been. They had decided to be unruly today, of course. She couldn’t help but smile when he jumped up and just stood there for a few moments awkwardly before sitting back down. It was cute. Then Ellie noticed his clothes, which made her jeans and sweater seem shabby in comparison. She had wanted to dress a little more nicely but hadn’t had the time to really pick clothes before leaving for work. Nor had she had time to really put on any make up, other than a quick swipe of lip gloss before getting out of her car.
The college student wasn’t really sure why she was worrying so much about her appearance right now. It was something that rarely crossed her mind. Yet standing here, in her sweater and jeans, unmade face, and wild curls, she couldn’t help but feel a little bit stupid. Not letting on to that fact, Ellie took a seat across from Christian. “Hey,” she said in a returned greeting. “Sorry about being late. It’s been crazy today. So much better now, though.” That was true; Ellie had been looking forward to lunch, believing that it was the only thing that had gotten her through snotty nosed children who needed to try over forty pairs of shoes before finding something they liked. She was so happy about lunch, in fact, that she couldn’t stop herself from giving Christian a bright grin. “How about yours?”

Smiling - and personally feeling like a bit of an idiot, the male reseated himself smoothly, as he then opened his mouth to speak, before stopping himself, hearing herself worry over something. Oh, her appearance. Adorable. Christian allowed a reassuring smile to fall along his lips, as if he wanted to tell her she looked just fine for a college student, though no words were expressed. He was planning on telling her what else he could do - but he was probably going to end up putting it off until she asked about it or discovered it herself. Hearing her first comment, the Immortal nodded and mused, "Glad to hear it's better at least."
he grinned, and added, as a waitress approached, "You look nice, Ellie." he mused, giving her a look as if telling her not to argue with him. The waitress, oddly named Sheri, and spelled only a way Christian imagined the 20th century parents would have it spelled smiled, a row of perfect pearly whites appeared, and he had been tempted to act blinded by them, they seemed almost fake, but he didn't. Christian settled for keeping his gaze on Ellie till the last possible moment when Sheri spoke, "I'm Sheri, I'm your waitress today, can I get you two anything to drink?" Christian looked to Ellie, shifting the conversation to her, "Ellie?" Plus - he liked how her name rolled off his tongue. After Ellie ordered, Christian asked for a Coke. Hell, why not? He'd fallen in love with it when it came out, back in the mid-1940s, give or take. If his memory didn't fail him. Tilting his head slightly, he offered a half-attempted smile at Sheri, before quickly refocusing his gaze on Ellie when she inquired about his day. His lips twitched, and he spoke, his voice sounding almost hesitant, "Slept in after grading some papers...and..." he straightened himself in the chair slightly, "Took a ride around on Thunder...one of my horses." Christian glanced away from Ellie for a moment, then back to her, curious to hear what she'd have to say to that. Most people were amazed, for some unknown reason, that he of all people would have horses - and work on cars. But hey, they helped pass the time, plus it kept his hands busy and him out of this brewing war. Thinking of that, his hands clenched slightly underneath the table, thankful Ellie couldn't see his panic and his worry turn into anger. He didn't want Ellie to know about it, nor did he want her to be completely oblivious about it either. Well - at least she knew what he was, but he was only one of multiple supernatural species that lived here alone, even in this very restaurant. Shifting slightly, Christian's gaze landed on a couple walking in, and something - perhaps curiosity flashed in his eyes, the older couple, probably in their early-thirties, and forever placed in their early-thirties, were vampires. Their auras were tainted due to the human blood they ate, sometimes mixing the humans' last emotions in with the vampire's aura, which they usually had a small one of, due to them being "undead" in a sense. Keeping his focus on Ellie, Christian waved a hand slightly as he noticed Sheri getting their drinks, he inquired, "Do you go to school around here?" There, start simple. "How about this, feel free to ask me anything you like, but I will tell you this, I get to ask you what you ask me." he grinned deviously, unable to help it, before the look faded and he appeared "calm" when Sheri reappeared. In reality, he was a little ticked, but once they got their food she'd calm down, besides she was about to get off in half an hour, so she was winding down. Thank goodness, he sighed softly to himself, before eying Ellie, then to Sheri as she said she'd give them a few minutes. Offering Ellie a menu, since he accidentally had both of them, he mused, "Mind if I asked what made your morning rough?" He was genuinely curious. Not one of those guys who just asked to make themselves look better. No, Christian did like to hear other people's stories, it was always fun, and he was sure Ellie's would hold much more of his interest than any others in a long time. You look nice. That was one of the biggest lies that Ellie had heard in her life. Her hair suggested that she had just stepped out of a wind tunnel, her sweater was wrinkled from being folded instead of hung up and there was a hole in the knee of her jeans and the bottom of them were fraying. What she was wearing, she would’ve worn anywhere, to class or just hanging out. It wasn’t anything nice. Now, Christian, on the other hand, looked good. Amazing, actually, if she wanted to be using the correct adjective. There should really be a law about good-looking people. They shouldn’t be allowed to make themselves look better when they were already born with genes that did the work for them. Ellie considered returning the compliment, though Christian probably didn’t need anything that might inflate his ego. “No, I don’t,” Ellie argued, ignoring social etiquette that said you were supposed to thank someone when they gave you a compliment and ignoring the look that Christian gave her saying that she should just accept it. If he didn’t accept gratitude, then she didn’t have to accept compliments that weren’t true.
Ellie glanced up at the waitress, recognizing her from school. Sheri was one of the few people that she’d not want to meet outside of school. The two had never gotten along, ever since Ellie had corrected her in one of the basic education classes that all freshmen had to take. And as far as the brunette was concerned, she didn’t really want to be friends with the girl anyway. Sheri was one of those blond, gorgeous girls who had daddy wrapped around her little finger and a small posse like any queen bitch in a movie or TV show set in high school. No doubt Sheri would get some sort of gossip going and Ellie would hear all about it on Monday. Despite that, Ellie smiled a polite smile and ordered a Dr. Pepper and a glass of water. She always did that, ordered a soda and a glass of water. Ellie hated how drinks always came out first and she’d but done with it by the time her food came, so she typically got a water to sip on until the meals were brought to the table. Besides, it’d give Sheri one more thing to try to carry over here.
But even seeing someone like Sheri couldn’t put a damper on Ellie’s mood. After ordering her drink, she turned back to Christian and completely forgot that the other girl was even there. His morning sounded like an easy one, and the brunette was slightly envious. One fact stuck out in her mind though, and that was the idea that Christian had horses. And by the sound of it, multiple horses. “That’s amazing that you have horses,” Ellie commented, the wonder able to be heard in her voice, “I’ve always wanted to learn how to ride, but I never got the chance to.” All through elementary school, Ellie had been obsessed with horses. She supposed most girls were, at one point in their life. She had dreamed about owning one someday, about living on a farm in the middle of nowhere with just her horse. Ellie had never thought for once that it would happen, but that still didn’t mean that she didn’t want it to. She was never even able to get lessons, on account of the cost. “I’ll I’ve got is my stupid dog.” Even though the words sounded harsh, Ellie said them with a loving smile. Duke really wasn’t the brightest crayon in the pack, but he was sweet, loving a loyal, more than she could even hope for.
She watched as Christian’s gaze shifted to something over her shoulder and then back at her, asking a question about school. “Yeah, unfortunately. Stuck in community college.” It wasn’t something Ellie was happy about. She had the grades to go anywhere she had wanted. Anywhere in the world. The only problem was that she didn’t have the money to do that. Even with scholarships, Ellie didn’t have enough money to go to the colleges she had her heart set on and she wanted as few loans as possible. She’d much rather go to a lower ranked college and save any extra money to travel to Italy than spend all of her money and then some and a prestigious college, only to have to work to pay off her loans and missing out on a chance to go to Italy. “Fair enough,” Ellie agreed to Christian’s terms, feeling as though there was nothing she’d avoid telling Christian.
The young woman was perplexed as to why Christian would want to know about her morning. Most people never cared to find out things like that, preferring to talk about themselves than hear someone else whine. “My mom woke me up at an ungodly hour this morning to yell at me about being out too long and then I got called into work because whoever was supposed to work had a family emergency. It was just hectic.” Ellie only gave a brief overview, leaving out details in order to not bore Christian, though it’d make her side of their bargain much easier. “That was two questions though. My turn.” She went silent after that, trying to think of what question to ask Christian. It wasn’t that she didn’t have one for him; she had too many. Mind as well start from the simplest. “What’s your last name? It seems as if we’ve skipped over that tiny detail.” And it bothered her, not knowing his full name.

Christian gave Ellie a poisonous look at her response, and then he spoke, "Fine, but I'm not taking it back."
Giving the human a devious grin, he fell silent, allowing for Ellie to talk as she pleased. Either way, Christian had a feeling it would be pretty interesting to hear what she had to say. Seeing Ellie's reaction against the waitress, he tuned in silently to her thoughts, curious as to what was going through her mind when she looked at her in that sense. Ah, they knew each other. Sheri didn't seem to act as if she knew Ellie, but Christian had seen that all before. Girls liked to have a bit of a two-faced action going on, the one where they were nasty and wanted their way - usually around other girls, and then the sweet, innocent one where they pulled it on teachers and student teachers like himself, and then their parents to still get what-ever they wanted. If only they'd grown up when he did, they'd be plenty grateful to even have a job and be able to pay for stuff like they did, without needing to just rely on a man all the time. Perhaps that was a deep reason why some people who studied ancient history felt such a strong urge to defend it. It seemed wrong in some eyes, but it was just how things were. Take it from him. Christian eyed Ellie intently, silently asking her to tell him what was up without him having to mention it and get a weird look in response, oh yeah, I can read your mind, and I know pretty much all your dark secrets. It's called being what I am. Yeah - that wasn't going to happen. At least not at once. He perked when she mentioned his horses. Oh, his animals. They had been a favorite of his for centuries, ever since he first learned to ride one when he was about 8 or 9 years old, back in B.C. for goodness sake. Christian smiled fondly, he adored the horses, especially when they actually listened to him when he asked them what to do, instead of just hanging out in one spot, which they would do - usually before they started listening to him, because they just enjoyed toying with him. Then, about her dog. He chuckled softly, and mused, "But I'm sure that he loves you anyway." he flashed a light grin, "I have four horses, and one on the way...what's your dog's name?" he inquired, curious about that. Sedona was technically his dog - in a sense, he fed her a lot, so he supposed she could be, plus she hung out in his place a lot too, liked to make herself at home, much like a cat would. Perhaps she was half-cat, who knew in this world with all these supernatural beings going around. Wrinkling his nose slightly at this thought, he re-focused his attention on the conversation at hand - or his full attention, he should say. Stuck in community college? Christian repeated to himself in his head. There wasn't much wrong with that, was there? Unless there happened to be some type of taboo or something attending them - he obviously missed it. Putting a bit of confusion on his face, Christian then stated, softly, "I don't see much wrong with community college...what's wrong with it? Last I heard, it's pretty much the same as a normal university, just a different name, and it saves you so much more money." he shrugged and commented, "It can come down to your priorities too. Like you may go to Harvard, but you probably wouldn't be able to go anywhere, do anything..." his voice faded, thoughts drifting slightly, though not all that much. He refused to go too far into the past, especially not with Ellie around. Christian wanted to get to know her as best as he could throughout lunch. Listening to her describe her morning - if only vaguely, he smiled weakly and questioned, "What time? Three or so?" Christian could only imagine what look Ellie must have given her mother for waking her up. He knew he wouldn't be the best person to hang out with after someone rudely waking him up at that time in the morning. He couldn't help it. All the questions boiling in his mind. It seemed as if he were 14 again, and demanding answers from his father about what they were and such, since he started to notice swords and such didn't cut him as deep as they should. Course his mother always fleed to his father when he came around, demanding to know. Asking. Pushing. He surely hoped Ellie didn't feel like he was pushing her to do anything, just that he was really curious about her, wanting to get to know her. She had plagued his mind most of the night and this morning too. Shaking that thought away, he heard her mention him having two questions, and he grinned sheepishly, "Okay, okay...I'll ease back a bit." a soft laugh rippled from his chest, then he hesitated when she asked for his last name. It wouldn't hurt, would it? If she did look him up, it would just say he was born in the States (which was a lie), and that he had a Facebook. That was pretty much it. And the Facebook, rarely used. He can't even remember why he'd done it in the first place. Nevertheless, he spoke, tilting his head ever so slightly, "Christian Nikolai Elias." Might as well as give her his full name, curious to see her reaction, he then mused quietly, his voice softer, so only she would be able to hear, even though there were only a few people around them, who were a decent distance away, "It's Roman." he shrugged, "Either way, what's your other question? That was only one, but I think you have a few more to ask now after me attacking you with mine, which I apologize....mostly...for doing." Christian threw an innocent look in for an added touch, plus that he couldn't resist it. Around Ellie, it felt like Christmas morning - no matter how cliché that may sound, but he felt as if nothing else mattered but her. Ellie took Christian’s venomous look with a slight shrug. She didn’t really see what was wrong with correcting him, especially when he was so far off the mark. Besides, lies only falsely bolstered egos. “My comment about you being a brat? That still stands,” Ellie teased with a smile. She sat silently for a few moments, before she realized how closely Christian was staring at her. Typically, Ellie wasn’t one who was uncomfortable when people where looking at her. She had never had a fear of public speaking nor of being the center of attention. It didn’t mean that she liked it though. And for some reason, it was different when Christian was the one staring. The look in his eyes made Ellie think as though he was studying her, trying to figure something out. “What?” She asked, wiping a hand at her cheek, in case there was something on her face.
She smiled at Christian’s comment about how her dog still loved her. Ellie knew Duke did. Duke was house simply because he loved company, laid at your feet if you weren’t moving, and was genuinely happy to see you, especially if you were paying attention to him. Plus, Duke was a protective dog, easily defending those he loved without much of a question. “His name is Duke. And yeah, he does love me, just as much as I love him.” Ellie would have no idea what she’d do if something happened to her big puppy. And she had come by him by accident, too. Duke had originally been a stray, left out on the road as a puppy because some family had gotten him and then couldn’t care for him. A friend of Ellie’s had taken him in, but wasn’t able to keep Duke either. Ellie had been over visiting said friend and instantly fell in love with Duke the second his big brown puppy eyes looked at her. When she found out that Duke had nowhere else to go, she hadn’t hesitated to take him home with her. It had caused all sorts of arguments with her mother, but she eventually back down and Ellie was able to keep Duke. Ellie sometimes wondered if that was why Duke was so protective of her, because she had been the one who kept him off the streets. That was neither here nor there, and all that mattered was that they loved each other.
The confusion on Christian’s face was adorable, much like any other emotion he decided to show. She wasn’t entirely sure what he was confused about, until he asked about community college. It really wasn’t all that bad; Ellie liked the small and beautiful campus, the friends she had made there, and the professors that she had. There were just a few things that bothered her about actually attending there. One, Ellie knew she could do so much better, as far as school rankings went. Two, there weren’t as many class options or as many opportunities to do study aboard things. And three, Ellie was stuck at home with her mother. That was probably the biggest reason. If Ellie could just live on campus, then things might not have been so bad. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t the money for that, meaning Ellie had to stay in the house. “You want the real reason? I’m stuck with my horrid mother until I graduate.” She hoped Christian didn’t question about her mother, or try to talk her out of the opinion she held about the woman. More people than Ellie could count had tried that, and her only argument was that they hadn’t had to live for twenty years with the woman. They might understand if they took a step into her shoes. Besides, she didn’t want to talk about her mother right now, not when she was with Christian and was trying to find out more about him. She wouldn’t let her mother take that away from her. “And it was more like two this morning. She has no sense of politeness, manners, or time.” Horrible woman.
The brunette really didn’t mind all of Christian’s questions; he was just trying to figure her out. Ellie appreciated that sort of mind set, seeing as how that was how she normally was. In fact, she would be asking him a million questions if he weren’t already doing so. It was a little hard for two people to do that at the same time, because they’d either not hear each other’s questions or wouldn’t have time to answer them. Christian’s laugh was nice too, something that Ellie wouldn’t mind if he kept doing throughout their lunch here. She got a little worried though, when he hesitated after she asked him his middle name. It was an easy enough question, and who didn’t know first and last names these days? It was odd not to, actually. So what was wrong with wanting to know his full name? Ellie thought he might try to avoid the question until he actually answered it. “That’s a nice name. I’m slightly jealous, actually. Is your family from Italy?” That was technically a second question, but Ellie was going to pretend like it didn’t count. And if Christian called her out on it, then she’d admit defeat.
“It’s fine. Honestly.” Ellie sat back in her chair, trying to figure out what she wane to ask him. There was one question in her head that kept burning there, but she was trying to avoid. Purely because she wasn’t sure she really wanted to know the answer. Ellie had been trying to ignore the fact that Christian had told her that he was immortal, trying to just think of him as a normal human being. Of course that was just going to be short lived, a temporary fix if you will, but that didn’t mean Ellie wanted to pull that band aide off now. Mind as well though. She leaned forward, getting closer to Christian than just two casually dining friends would; the girl didn’t want anyone else to overhear. “So you’re immortal, right? I still find it hard to believe, but I haven’t been able to come up with any other explanation for last night. So in light of that knowledge, when were you actually born?”

he added the teasing tone in to make sure that she knew he didn't care. She could call him a brat, it was better than some other things he'd been called over the years. Some things he never wanted to think about again, but had - unfortunately and most likely had written them down. Thinking of this gave him a slightly uncomfortable feeling, but he then smushed it the moment he realized it was putting a damper mood on his emotions when he was with Ellie. This was the type of time when he wanted to be with the person completely, and be able to get to know them. Pausing slightly, Christian then figured something out, hearing all her burning questions, maybe she could ask him everything about him this date, then the next one...he grinned coyly. Plus that would give him another reason to see her again rather soon. Tucking this idea away for a later time, he then heard Ellie mention her dog once more. Duke his name is. A good name, a strong one, he wondered what kind of dog he was. He figured either something small like a Pomeranian or something ridiculous like that, or a massive dog, such as a Saint Bernard or one of those ridiculous Irish Wolfhounds that weighed up to something like 150 pounds. Amazing. Christian didn't see the reason in wanting a dog that big, but he could see some of one with the Vikings and such - nasty people - who needed and wanted big dogs for hunting and what-ever else. Her reasons. Ellie's reasons he listened to - which he knew he shouldn't do - but he really wanted to anyway. There were three of them, due to because she knew she could, that she had limitations here, and the biggest she said in her head, was because she was stuck here with her mother. So this woman really had an impact on her. Christian could only imagine why, he wanted so badly to know, but the other half of him told him to knock it off and say nothing. It wouldn't be good to dive into that topic, not with how Ellie's thoughts raced around that subject, and that how she seemed reluctant to go there at all if she could avoid it. Keeping this in mind, Christian mentioned, "You could just go abroad-move onto campus, if you could." Dammit! He'd pretty much mentioned what had been on her mind! Damn. Mentally swearing in French, he then played it off, acting as if he hadn't said that, not wanting to ruin the conversation, or what-ever it was, firing questions at the other one, "I would tell you I'm sorry for you having to live with her, which I am, but I guess you've heard it before?" he shrugged softly, "Sometimes though, things happen for a reason..." his voice faded softly as his eyes lifted from the table to meet Ellie's silently. Especially after she mentioned the time, Christian cringed slightly. Yes, two in the morning and he wouldn't be a very good person either. He'd most likely attempt murder. No, maybe not that far, just a few good shots and jabs at the person's ego before he would find a way to get some good sleep in. Christian tilted his head ever so slightly to the right. Wait, Ellie was jealous of his name? He didn't mind Christian, but Nikolai? It had been popular over 2,000 years ago, he was about to voice, but for some reason something told him not to exclaim that. At least not yet. Biting his tongue - though not literally - the Immortal answered to her inquiry about Italy, "Would you believe me if I said no?" he teased, "It was the center of the Roman Empire...so yeah...right on the northern side of Rome, actually." Christian's voice dropped when he mentioned the Roman Empire, though worst case with that, he could just claim that they were both huge history buffs. Which was true - at least for him, and he knew for Ellie as well, due to which books she had been looking at the other day for her paper. Plus her major she'd mentioned as well, and Italy, how she had expressed Italy a few times. Then, his mind registered Ellie had moved closer, leaning in slightly, and he shortly followed her example, though not too much, not wanting anyone to get anything going on in their heads, especially something that could disrupt his focus on Ellie's next string of words. A light laugh escaped his lips, and he shook his head slightly, eyes watching hers curiously, as he then picked up his drink and took a sip, pausing, before setting it down, and answering, lacing his fingers together on the table in front of him, "Do you promise to at least hear me out when I say it? And please, no old people jokes. At least not now." he grinned shyly, before leaning back in once more, just to make sure no one around them was listening, or at least could hear them. Last thing he wanted was for someone to call the cops, and him either get locked up in a mental asylum or get turned in to the government and become a lab rat. He shivered ever so slightly at that thought. No way, no thanks. Christian wasn't super-strong, he just lived forever, and saw a lot, and knew stuff. That was pretty much it. "I was born in 490 B.C." There. He said it. Straightening himself slightly, he remained locked on Ellie's reaction, curious to her response, "At the height of the Roman Empire." [/sup][/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •for a minute there i lost myselfTHIS IS WHAT YOU GET.THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU MESS WITH US.50+ - kel! <3 - karma police, radiohead - these two = epicness - gaspard is the sex // christian + ellie = epicness

Christian was surely theatrical. It must’ve been something he had picked up over the years. “Don’t be a baby,” Ellie scolded and had she been in a position to do so, she would’ve slugged Christian on the arm. Not hard of course, just enough to further prove her point. That would be slightly awkward for her do try now, seeing as how she’d have to lean over the table and wouldn’t have a very good angle. She would add ‘grow up’, but if he had really been on this earth of a long time, that would’ve happened by now or there was no chance of it. Men were always like that though; gigantic kids who never fully matured, no matter how long they lived. At least, that was the impression Ellie had gotten from the opposite gender. Her father had run off like a teenage boy to get married to some woman. And every guy that Ellie had ever dated was intent on their own pleasure and having a good time. This lunch date might’ve been the first date that Ellie had gone on for a while where the guy hadn’t tried to take her to a bar, despite the fact she wasn’t old enough to drink yet. That personality had been Ellie’s previous boyfriend written all over it. He had decided that it’d be nice to take her to a bar on their first date so he could watch the game with a rowdy group of his friends. It really should’ve been an indicator that that wasn’t the type of person she wanted to spend time with, yet Ellie had thought she was in love and tried to forgive and forget the experience. Only after he had broken up with her did Ellie realize that she was stupid.
Bad memories of ex-boyfriends weren’t something Ellie wanted to focus on, for fear of associating those recollections with Christian. He was turning out to be more of a gentleman than any one of those guys could have been. Christian was thoughtful, considerate, and seemed to actually care when she told him about things. Like about the college thing. While it was creepy that he had said something along the lines of what Ellie was thinking, almost as if he were inside her head, she couldn’t get over the fact that he was at least trying to offer suggestions to help solve her problems. What kind of person would care enough about that – not just say, ‘hey man, that sucks’ and be done with it – for a person who they barely knew. “I had thought about that,” Ellie answered frankly. “But I don’t have the money for it. And I wouldn’t have a place for Duke.” She had brought the conversation back to her dog, though not on purpose. There really would be nowhere she could keep Duke if she were to go live on campus in some random country and Ellie refused to leave her big puppy behind. And while community college wasn’t ideal, she’d finish with it so she could move onto better things with Duke in tow.
She half snorted at Christian’s comment that she must’ve received sympathy from people because she was stuck with her mom. That was an understatement. Every person who had ever met the woman wondered how Ellie hadn’t killed her yet. Or more politely, how she had put up with her for so long and on her own. The whole, things happened for a reason bit was ridiculous. Ellie didn’t believe in things like that. Things happened because other things had set them in motion. A domino chain of events, if you will. Much like Christian and Ellie meeting. The only reason they were here right now was because Christian had made a point to mention something that could help her on a research paper that’s due date was fast approaching because of said grumpy woman. There wasn’t some mythical, magical being that forced the two to meet. “There is no reason for me living with her, unless you count the fact that its testing my sanity.” Maybe that was it; if Ellie could deal with this, she could deal with anything.
She was startled when Christian leaned in close as well, never having actually been so close to someone she wasn’t dating. Unlike most girls, Ellie’s hormones didn’t go on a frenzied rage around her body. It would be a lie to say that she hadn’t felt her heart stutter for a beat or two, though. Still, that hadn’t distracted her from hearing Christian’s words. She smiled at his request for her to not make fun of his age. The young woman nodded in agreement, knowing already that it’d be hard. Then he said that he had been born during the Roman Empire. That was her favorite period in Italy history – all history, really – and here she was talking to someone who had lived through it. To Ellie, this was like meeting her favorite superstar or her idol. Not only had he lived during the Roman Empire, but at the height of its full glory. Which meant he had been around for the fall of it too, had experienced the craziness in between those two time periods. Another pile of questions added themselves to the already growing one in her mind. Those would wait until Ellie got a better sense of who Christian was. More of secondary questions, really. It was kind of daunting too, sitting across from someone who had seen so much, who had experience it. It made herself feel so, insignificant. On the bright side, she’d have a primary source if ever needed. Ellie was becoming more and more jealous of Christian by the second.
And then a thought crossed Ellie’s mind. In order to live that long, he had to have met people who were no longer around. “Do you ever get lonely?” Ellie asked without thinking, regretting it the instant she realized that those words were now out in the open and not safely tucked away in her brain. That wasn’t something Ellie wanted to get Christian’s mind focused on. They were supposed to be happy today. Now that the words were in the air now, Ellie couldn’t reach them out and snatch them back.
