The days came and gone, and it had been about four days since they arrived. Christian called it paradise, and he loved being able to see Antonia once more. The Immortal looked over to Ellie, whom he noticed was probably tired, her aura never lied. They had had a long day exploring, shopping and paying a visit to Rome for most of it. Now, it was time for them, and especially her, to sleep. Grinning, his arm coiled around Ellie outside, the duo enjoying the nighttime air, Christian mused, "I'm more than happy to carry you to bed, Ellie."
he grinned, throwing in a teasing grin. He rarely slept, or when he did sleep every night, it was only for a few hours. Probably a side thing of being Immortal. Shaking his head slightly, he then ran a hand through his hair, and looked to the beautiful woman beside him and his lips molded against hers for a few moments, lingering there before then, Ellie was in bed. Saying goodnight verbally and with a gentle kiss, as always, Christian then paused when he noticed Antonia at the bottom of the stairs, looking up at him, her thoughts echoing in his head, a hand on her hip. It was time to talk. Nodding slightly, Christian looked to Ellie, "I'll see you in the morning." he smiled weakly, before allowing Ellie to go to sleep and bed, then he silently went downstairs and met up with Antonia. "My office?" Christian nodded solemnly, eyes warily peering over the artifacts in Antonia's room, before he noticed a picture of him, and a young Antonia. His stomach dropped, the witch eyed him keenly, "C'mon, I keep all the photos in my home office, only I ever see them." she reassured the Immortal as they sat down in the office, adorned with random potions, books and everything else, though it was neat, uncluttered. Antonia sat down by Christian, purple eyes locking onto his, "Have you even told her about anything?" Shaking his head, he groaned, "I'm a coward, Antonia. I only will if she asks me." Antonia gave him a look, "You wanted to speak to me about that potion, no?" Christian nodded, watching her with peaked interest when Antonia got up and headed over to a case, which then, as she waved her hand over a drawer, it unlocked itself, and she showed him a locked box inside, "This is where I keep all the immortality, mortality, love potions, things like that. The most potent. These others are the generic, luck ones, you know, ones humans like the most." she winked, before seriousness swallowed her actions and the witch then set it on the desk, Christian peering at the one which was labeled in Italian, Guardiano, which basically meant, guardian. Reason why? He had no idea, as she plucked it up, Antonia sat down, eying him intently, "This is what I've been...perfecting over the years, Chris." she held it up to her face, peering at the contents, "It's....it's what you and my grandmother were attempting to figure out...mortality." Christian swallowed, his attention all on the witch in front of him, his blood relative, "Propinote," he started, "What's the price?" Antonia paused, "Did you just call me that?" Christian gave her a look. It was true. It was the other part Christian was hesitant to tell Ellie, just because...of how she might take it. Antonia was his grand-daughter, her grandmother, the woman in the photo, the woman who wrote the book, he and she had been lovers for some time, and then Antonia's mother kept in touch with Christian, soon only having just one child, Antonia. The bloodline, his bloodline was contained, and he planned on keeping an eye on the Twins and Maria, just to be sure. "It's...dangerous, Christian. This can turn you mortal. Didn't you wish to speak to Ellie about it?" Antonia inquired, hair falling past her shoulders as she did so, "The reason why I fear for you, is that you will only lose your immortality, it won't work with your aura-readings and telepathy, do you understand?" Christian nodded silently, "I do...but..." His mind traveled to Ellie. He had to tell her. Tell her what he was planning on. What he was wanting to do for them, what he'd been wanting to do since he met her. Forfeit it, give the artifacts to his children - if he had any with Ellie, or pass them down to the Twins and Maria, his great-grandchildren. Swallowing, Christian opened his mouth and spoke, "I...I will take it...but I wish to tell Ellie...do you believe she'll try and talk me out of it?" Worry painted his features and Antonia shrugged, tucking the potion away, "I do not know. I believe she would, because she cares so much about you, but you care so much about her. I believe...I know one of you will need to do something, if you desire to stay together." Antonia patted Christian's shoulder gently, before it dropped, and horror washed over the two of them the moment the door slammed open. Christian's heart thudded painfully in his chest, he loved her so much, he never wanted to lose her. Looking at her now, he knew he never did, or if he did, he didn't want to see the world without her in it, "Ellie...." [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •for a minute there i lost myselfTHIS IS WHAT YOU GET.THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU MESS WITH US.heh, yeah. ^^ christian does love her though. <333 enjoy. - kel! <3 - karma police, radiohead - coming soon, next post <3

A whirlwind. It was the only way Ellie could think to describe her trip so far. Time flew by, but it was absolutely amazing. She never thought she’d see half as much as she had in the past four days and every minute Ellie was here, she was falling more and more in love with the country. But even that couldn’t compare to having Christian next to her for uninterrupted amounts of time. Or at least, mostly uninterrupted. But stupid things like her having to sleep (like at this very moment) kept her from spending every waking moment with the young man.
“I have two perfectly capable legs,” Ellie said with a smile that matched Christian’s. The gesture was sweet – as always – but Ellie didn’t need him to do that for her. So she instead wrapped her warms around Christian’s neck and kissed him back. Moments like these, Ellie wished that they could last forever. It was complete perfection and Ellie would give anything to keep it from ending, but ended it did considering both of them had to breathe. Besides, Ellie was just delaying the obvious; she had to sleep. The girl was practically dead on her feet from all that had gone on the past couple of days and her body needed to shut off for a few hours.
She knew she had to, but she didn’t want to sleep yet. Ellie didn’t want to lie down and close her eyes because she knew it meant that Christian would leave. There was always a moment every night when it came to this time when Ellie wanted to ask Christian to stay until she fell asleep. And every single time, Ellie never asked. She didn’t want to sound needy or whiney. And in an effort to do that, Ellie tried to ignore the thought, knowing that Christian would be able to hear her desire if she dwelled on it too long.
Ellie smiled at Christian one last time. “Good night,” she said softly, slipping under the covers and turning out all the lights once Christian had walked out of the room. But she couldn’t stop herself from tossing and turning – despite how tired she was. She was regretting not asking Christian to stay with her. So much so that she knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep until she did so.
Mind made up, Ellie eagerly turned on her light again, flipped the covers back, and began tiptoeing across her borrowed room. She opened her door just as silently and carefully made her way across the hallway to Christian’s room. There was no point in waking up half the household for something as stupid as she was doing, after all.
But when Ellie made it to the door and knocked on it, there was no answer. She gave it a few seconds before knocking again and then just opening the door and walking right into the room. Only, Christian wasn’t there like she had expected. Curious, Ellie was now on a mission; figure out where Christian was. It would be difficult, considering the fact that everyone was asleep and she didn’t want to wake anyone up over such a silly thing.
Cautiously, Ellie made her way down the steps, not wanting to hit a creaky spot. It took her ten times longer to descend the flight of steps, but it was worth it if it meant everyone stayed asleep. At the bottom, she was slightly disoriented. It wouldn’t be bad if Ellie actually understood the layout of Antonia’s house, but considering they had only been here a couple of days and Ellie had never tried to walk around by herself when it was dark, she was at a total loss. Besides, she was convinced that Antonia must’ve used magic to change the house every now and then because there were certain elements that Ellie could’ve sworn weren’t there when she and Christian and first arrived.
Luckily, light was peeking out from a door that was very slightly ajar, beckoning to Ellie like a lighthouse might to a ship. She didn’t know what room it was, but hoped Christian would be in it. Upon tiptoeing to the door, Ellie peaked into the crack only to see Antonia and Christian talking. The girl let out a sigh, bummed by the fact that Christian wasn’t alone and therefore actually having an important moment with someone. She was about to turn away, being someone who wasn’t really one to eavesdrop, until she caught a word in Italian. Pronipote.
It didn’t take long for Ellie to run through her limited knowledge of Italian and translated it to English. Granddaughter? Why was Christian calling Antonia his granddaughter? And then it hit her. That woman in the picture, the one that had written all about the supernatural species, had been one of Christian’s many girlfriends. That was what was most familiar about Christian in the photograph – the loving look in his eyes. Ellie was so stupid. She had idiotically believed that if she ignored the fact that Christian had had many lovers over the years, then they didn’t matter. She could pretend that it was just the two of them with not baggage.
A fool. That was what Ellie was. A complete and utter fool. Not only had Christian loved other women, but he had had children with them. He had to of had, or he wouldn’t have grandchildren. How many other descendants did Christian have running around? It was too much. Ellie felt like her heart was breaking. She knew that she was just one girl in Christian’s line of many, but knowing that and having actual proof of it were two very different things. She couldn’t pretend that what they had was special when he’d probably felt it with other girls.
Instead of doing anything, Ellie was just going to head back upstairs. She couldn’t deal with this right now, not when she was overly tired and overly emotional. She’d say stupid things, things she’d regret later. But as she was turning away, she caught the two talking about Christian’s mortality, or the lack thereof. What the hell? What were they planning? Screw being overly emotional at the moment; Ellie was losing her ability to logically think things through.
The brunette pushed the door open with force, no longer caring if it woke anyone up. Anger practically rolled off her in waves as she silently fumed in the doorway for a second or two. Christian looked completely caught off guard by her sudden entrance and a slight bit guilty. A small part of Ellie was secretly delighted to put him in such a state, but she didn’t think about it that much. “Anything else you plan on not telling me?” Ellie practically shot at Christian, ignoring that she was probably overreacting.

Horror was all that could be seen on his features. Ellie was here, and based on her expression, and her violently changing aura, she'd seen a lot more than Christian would have begged she never heard. Eyes glanced swiftly towards Antonia, who had fallen silent as well, before the Immortal then heard her demand. Keep anything else from her? It may be twisted, but Christian wasn't necessarily keeping it from her, he just didn't tell her till she asked. He was being a coward, he'd admit it, but the fear of losing her was now more painful than he could ever imagine. That was the pain alone too. God forbid if it did happen, Christian would beg Antonia to find a way to turn him mortal, so he could die knowing that Ellie could be happier. Fear remained off his features, though he knew his eyes were most likely betraying that. Hesitating, his silver tongue turned to lead, Christian spoke, remaining seated for the moment, and sighed, running a hand through his hair, "Ellie...I only have...Antonia and her children. There's no one else." he spoke, addressing more of her panicked thoughts he'd caught onto, before he then straightened himself, as the witch hid the potions with a casual hand, "There is nothing I want to keep from you, Ellie. All you ever must do, is just ask." he spoke calmly, then after a few moments, stood up and took a few tentative steps towards the woman he couldn't imagine life without. Pain flickered across his features before he hid it and Christian added, "I wanted to speak to you about this...decision that I made." He turned back to Antonia, and nodded, who then sighed and handed Christian the small bottle that held the potion. Christian held it carefully, "I wanted to speak with you, about...me becoming mortal, to live a life with you like...two humans." Antonia chimed in as she sat down at her desk, Marco, the little monkey from before appearing from beside it, "There is....the fact he will retain his aura vision as well as his ability to hear others' thoughts, but he will age and die with you, Ellie." Antonia spoke calmly, as if trying to influence Ellie, using a slight bit of magic to calm the young woman down. Christian tucked the potion away, his eyes wandering over Ellie's features calmly. He hadn't wanted it to be like this. Not with Ellie in this state of anger, could she think rationally? Of course she could. Ellie was the most logical woman he'd ever met, a trait he not only admired, but rather enjoyed and liked about her. He was just curious to know if her stressed anger could trigger something else, and not enable her to think logically. Nevertheless, Christian looked to Antonia and inquired, "Could we have a few minutes?" Antonia nodded, standing up with the monkey on her shoulder, "Of course." her purple eyes landed on Ellie for a moment, as if begging the younger woman to consider this all carefully. She knew though, it could easily break their hearts. Christian was tempted to reach for her, though he decided not to, just...afraid of sending her away. "Please...Ellie...I never lie to you, I never will. I...I was going to tell you tomorrow, along about...this potion." The Immortal didn't even want to think about losing Ellie, his sweet, beautiful Ellie. She was perfect right down to the curled hair on her head. Light eyes narrowed slightly, before he then took a few steps closer, closing the space quite a bit, not wanting to be too far from her, not in a time like this. Keeping the potion safe in his hand, just in case she tried to knock it out or something, Christian spoke, admitting, "Antonia's got this potion, Ellie. I want to take it...for us. I will be able to die, it will strip me of my immortality, and..." he paused, frowning slightly, then adding, "We could live just like...normal humans. Or mostly." he mused, considering he'd still keep the immortal powers. What concerned him, was that Antonia had never gone this way before, giving someone mortality. It's always been immortality. She had warned him before they got here, she wasn't sure how it would work, but that it should, and Christian was willing to try it. He was willing to do absolutely anything for Ellie, but not if it meant he'd lose her. Remaining silent, it was up to the young woman now, to decide. He prayed though, that she wouldn't leave, just to hear this out, he stepped aside, gesturing for her to sit if she so pleased. It hadn't gone how he planned it, it was happening, and now he couldn't do much to stop it. Christian looked to the woman in front of him, knowing this was what he wanted to do, more than anything. She instantly regretted the manner in which she had made her presence known. It was stupid and overemotional and just not Ellie. Not to mention the look of absolute horror in Christian’s eyes because he had been found out and received a less than ideal reaction. That look killed a part of her; she never wanted to be responsible for a look like that. It meant that she was causing Christian some sort of pain and that was the last thing that Ellie wanted. But she couldn’t back down now, despite it. She had quite the fiery temper when it was woken and it seemed as if Christian had caused it to rear its ugly head.
Though there was a brief sigh of relief when Christian mentioned that Antonia and her children were the only living decedents of Christian’s bloodline. She wasn’t sure what she would’ve done if she had found out Christian had decedents all over the Earth. It was an odd concept, to say the least, thinking that your boyfriend had kids and grandkids either your age or older. Plus, it would mean that either Christian “fell in love” a lot or just slept around. Neither was all that great of a personality trait to have.
The fact that Christian only had Antonia’s family also spoke volumes to the girl. It meant that Christian had loved only one woman enough to have kids with her. He wasn’t some man whore who jumped from one relation to another without any of them meaning anything, but he actually cared about the individual. But it also proved Ellie’s point; she wasn’t the special case that she liked to believe she was. Christian had loved other women – which was perfectly understandable considering how long he had lived – and she was only the current one.
Ellie let out a slight sigh and refused to look in Christian’s direction, knowing she might lose her nerve if she looked into his eyes again. “I shouldn’t have to ask, Christian. This is the kind of thing you should trust me enough to discuss. ” She had never thought about asking Christian if he had family since he had never really brought it up. Ellie had just assumed it was a touchy subject and that she should avoid it at all costs. This was partially her fault too, she supposed, because she could’ve asked Christian. But she also wished he could’ve just brought it up, since it was such an important part of who he was.
She made the mistake of looking at Christian then and caught the look of pain that flashed across his face before he quickly got rid of it. Ellie really didn’t want to do this to him, but it was like she couldn’t stop. This only made her angry at herself and that anger cycled back to the hurt she was already feeling to make a dangerous combination. “It sounds like you’ve already come to a decision,” Ellie said in a semi-catty way after Christian partially explained what he and Antonia had been talking about. And in a sense, he had. Christian was stubborn and if his mind was made up, then it was made up.
The girl ignored the witch, an action she’d surely regret later. Ellie hated to be unnecessarily mean, but right now her attention was fully focused on Christian. She couldn’t concentrate on anything else when her entire world – which she was now realizing practically revolved around Christian – was in complete and utter chaos. Ellie was even partially glad when Christian asked Antonia to give them a few minutes, simply because she didn’t want to continue to be rude by completely ignoring the older woman’s presence.
“Christian, please stop.” She didn’t want him to continue to try to defend himself in the manner that he was. Ellie could completely see where Christian was coming from and his logic behind the whole ordeal, making her realize that she had overreacted. Her calling him a liar was completely uncalled for. What really hurt was thinking that Christian didn’t trust her enough to tell her what was all going on. Ellie would’ve sworn that he held a higher opinion of her but he clearly didn’t.
Still, Ellie couldn’t completely let go of all her anger. She wanted to, but found that she couldn’t. Part of it was that Ellie was confused – a rare thing. When Christian took a few steps towards her, Ellie held her ground, moving neither towards him nor away from him. Her only response at first to Christian’s whole explanation was, “No.” Feeling as if he deserved more than that, Ellie came further into the office and headed for the chair Christian had offered without sitting down. Instead she gripped the back of it like she might need support and let her eyes wander around the office, landing on everything but Christian.
Deciding she had her thoughts together, Ellie turned to look at Christian. She felt like she was ready to cry, but pushed that deep down inside her so she could coherently get through the rest of their conversation. “Did you actually think this through? How many times has Antonia used a potion like this and how many times has it been successful?” Asking questions was something Ellie was good at and she hoped that thinking about these things would help sway Christian away from the choice Ellie knew he had already made.
“Besides, you can’t completely change yourself because of me.” That was her biggest argument. And the hardest part to get through. “I’m just one human girl and you’re a centuries old Immortal. Think about it, Christian. You’re making a pretty drastic decision.” Ellie paused, taking a deep breath before she continued. “Let’s think about this. I’m just like any other person you’ve dated. Nothing special. And some day down the road, you’ll regret this decision because you’ll realize that. There’s somebody out there that you don’t have to change for and you’ll just have to be patient until you find that person.” This was a conversation that Ellie never wanted to have but was inevitable to happen. She just couldn’t believe that it had to be this soon.

If there was one person that could make Christian feel like the king of the world then the world's biggest ass at the same time, or within a few moments - it was Ellie. He could see the thoughts running through her mind and he didn't need to be able to read her mind to see it. His bloodline. She thought he had slept around? Hardly. Call him old-fashioned - ha - but he certainly didn't sleep around, Antonia's mother had been...a powerful witch, and he thought he had truly loved the woman, Ellie had certainly turned that idea upside down. Antonia's mother was a wonderful woman, and Christian knew the love he had with her had been real, but it was nothing compared to the passion and love he felt with Ellie - no offense her either one of them. He felt his chest tighten when the curly-haired goddess refused to look at him and the Immortal remained standing awkwardly. Like he cared. He'd do anything to make sure he didn't cause Ellie any pain, suffering or stress - which he was failing at now. The Immortal then heard her speak, making him feel like the biggest ass in the world - again. Hesitating, he then spoke, calmly, slowly - picking out his words carefully, "I trust you with everything Ellie...I just...was a coward about what you'd think." he shrugged weakly, admitting one of the main reasons. The other had been because Antonia thought it would change how Ellie viewed her, not as a mother figure, or a good friend, but just the daughter of Ellie's boyfriend. Well, grand-daughter nevertheless. Christian would admit it was selfish, a selfish and idiotic move on his part, but if Ellie hadn't heard it, would she have even questioned it? Most likely to an extent with that picture Antonia had most likely accidentally left up in Ellie's room of Christian and Antonia's mom's mom, Antonia's great grandmother who wrote the book and discovered what Christian was without him opening his mouth. Her words stung. A lot. He almost - almost cringed at her words, though he did manage to restrain himself. Christian didn't want to let Ellie show how much her words had hurt - but for some reason, they had. "I have...but I believe it's only fifty percent. The other is your thoughts." he mused solemnly. The second she said "please stop" his mouth obediently sealed itself shut. He was wanting to know what was going through her head, her aura was swirling, and her personally tried not to think about it too much, though the moment she then said no, and seemed to think it through, he allowed her, having noted her not move towards him or away from him. It was better than moving away he figured. Standing where he was as her hands gripped the back of the chair, the Immortal tilted his head slightly, confusion etching itself into his features. Straightening his frame, Christian sighed heavily, before he then listened to Ellie's thoughts. He got it. Really - he understood where she was coming from. What she was thinking made sense, Antonia hadn't used it before - he certainly wouldn't admit that - but the witch was willing to bet her life on the fact that it would work though thinking of it now, Christian hadn't asked her if the effects would be permanent. Therefore he just assumed so. Then, the part of the argument he honestly had been hoping Ellie would do what she had done, use her biggest weapon first. Her being one of the multiple girls. The Immortal gave her a light look, though an affectionate one was melted in there with it, so it basically turned into a loving look towards the end. Pride swelled his chest slightly at Ellie, she had always been sharp, a reason Christian loved being with her. She could pick a conversation apart and therefore most of the time win the bloody thing. He sighed softly, closing his light-blue-green eyes and mused, opening them, "Antonia has never been more sure that it will work." he stated calmly, not wanting to worry Ellie anymore than he already was. Already he felt like the world's biggest ass to her. He didn't deserve Ellie. What she deserved was a normal life, a life with someone she could grow old with, grow matching pairs of gray hairs on their heads, while he remained this way, and would soon appear to be her son even when Ellie got older. If he didn't take this potion. "I didn't tell you, Ellie....because I was being selfish." he spoke, mentioning about Antonia, confessing it felt like, "It was selfish....and I'm sorry." he spoke, sincerity laced through his words. Running a hand anxiously through his hair, the Immortal spoke, "Ellie," he started, "I've never felt like this with anyone before. God rest their souls, I did love Antonia's mother, very much. But...." he paused, his voice lowered significantly, "I...I did love her it's just....with you, it's so much more different. I can't see the world without you in it anymore, and I certainly don't want to ever imagine I would need to." he spoke, shifting his gaze anxiously from her to around the room. "The biggest regret I would make Ellie, would be to lose you because of something I did or didn't do." he spoke, upon hearing Antonia entertain herself, thankfully not hearing any parts of their now private conversation. Christian shifted, wanting to be close to Ellie, just to forget this whole thing, though he could feel his Immortal side creeping up, the side that hardly held emotions anymore. It was the side he was worried about winning one day, though Ellie always kept it at bay. He felt so human around her to begin with. "I'm envious, Ellie. I want to be able to actually live, to think that any moment could be my last." he paused, realizing how wrong that could sound, and he quickly continued, fixing it, "What I want to say is that, I want to do this for you...Ellie. I don't want to have to think about losing you in a century, I...I want you to be happy. I just...never want to lose you." he spoke. Pausing, Christian looked down, his head sagging, "You're the most special person to me, Ellie."

Ellie found herself wrapping her arms around her middle and glancing at everything else in the room except her boyfriend. On any other day, she would’ve been completely fascinated by everything in this room. She would’ve been jumping from item to item, examining everything and asking a billion questions about each thing because she was always curious about everything. Right now though, she was looking without really seeing. All she wanted was a distraction. Because when things got tough like they were now, she went to Christian. And with him being the cause of the distress, Ellie was completely lost. Part of her still wanted to go to him for comfort still. But Ellie was a big girl and had been able to deal with things on her own before. She could do it again.
“But, Christian, if you really trusted me, it wouldn’t have matter. You know I would’ve thought things through.” Well, she wasn’t doing that so well right now. But Ellie thought it was because too much had been sprung on her when she least expected it. Had circumstances been better, her reaction would’ve been also. Now though, she felt as if everything had been kept a secret from her. And the fact that Christian thought she’d think poorly of him if he told her everything hurt. Didn’t he know her better than that? Didn’t he have more confidence in her? Even now, with everything, Ellie still didn’t have a negative view towards the guy. She wasn’t sure if it was possible.
She couldn’t help but smile – despite the situation – at Christian’s response to Ellie’s comment about how he had most likely already come to a decision. It wasn’t the big, usual grin she got when she was around the Immortal, but it was still a smile no matter how small. Christian definitely had his mind made up. Ellie wasn’t saying that her opinion didn’t matter to him, but it wouldn’t really have that much of an affect if it was something opposite of what he wanted. Stupid, stubborn Immortal. “We both know that your mind is already made up and it doesn’t really matter what I think.” There might have even been a slight laugh in her tone. The slight humor disappeared as quick as it appeared and Ellie was back to being serious in a matter of seconds. If one hadn’t been paying attention, they would’ve missed the whole moment. It was that fast. The girl was starting to feel restless and instead of pacing the room like a caged animal, she walked over to the shelves around the room and examined things further. Or at least she was pretending to look at things as she picked them up and set them down back in their place. But she wasn’t really processing anything. She was just trying to find something to do. Though Ellie was careful to not walk too close to Christian on her little tour of the room. She wasn’t entirely avoiding him; she was just afraid that if she got too close to where he was standing, she’d run to him and wrap her arms around him with very little thought. But that wouldn’t really help the situation. They had to figure out how to fix things first. And even though the girl might appear distracted, Ellie was hanging on every word Christian said, analyzing everything. “So she hasn’t tried the potion yet,” Ellie concluded as she picked up a picture, getting an answer even though Christian was trying to avoid giving her one. Otherwise, he would’ve said that it did work or that Antonia had indeed tried it already. She put the frame back down and turned so she was actually facing Christian, leaning against Antonia’s desk so she’d feel anchored somewhere. “If something went wrong…if that potion didn’t work the way it was supposed to…and knowing that it was my fault.” Ellie stopped and closed her eyes, the very idea of something happening to Christian causing her pain. And it’d be entirely her fault, seeing as how Christian never would do such a thing if she wasn’t in his life. She sighed, calming and composing herself, before opening her brown eyes again. “I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.” The sentence was resolute and final, leaving no doubt that she’d do something if Christian were to be harmed in anyway because of the stupid potion. Christian talked about not wanting to imagine a world without her in it, but couldn’t he see that she felt the same way? If something were to happen to Christian because of the potion or because of the vulnerability he’d have as a human, Ellie wouldn’t be able to forgive herself. She couldn’t imagine a world without Christian in it. And by that, she meant ever. He wasn’t meant to live and die like a normal human being or he would’ve been born one. The world would certainly be a dismal place without him wandering around in it and she wouldn’t be the cause of that. The next words out Christian’s mouth were some of the greatest she had ever heard, causing her heart to soar, but at the same time the most horrific. She’d never had someone who cared about her in the fashion that Christian did or as much as he (thought) he cared about her. As sweet as it was, you didn’t live for thousands of years to just fall in love with some dopey human girl. She was entirely convinced. Regardless, Ellie found herself quickly rushing to Christian, avoiding him be damned. She placed a finger under his chin and tipped the Immortal’s head so he was looking back up at her. “Christian. Baby, please. Realize that I’m just a phase and this decision is being made rashly.” Her tone was pleading, begging Christian to try to realize just how clouded his judgment was. This was a conversation that Ellie had thought they would have, but not in this way. Ever since Ellie realized that she liked Christian, she was waiting for the day he’d tell her that it was time to move on. And as much as it would hurt, Ellie wouldn’t do anything to stop him because what was the point? Things had been good, but if it was time for Christian to continue going on his way, it meant that there really never had been anything all that monumental there and there’d be no reason for her to chase after him. It was a little different now than Ellie had thought it’d be. For one, she was the one pushing Christian to realize things, but she was only trying to stop him from making a giant mistake. He’d come to the conclusion that she was trying to make, but it’d be too late if they stayed on the path they were going down. [/blockquote] TAG christian/izzy love! The Immortal felt a pang travel down his spine as Ellie's arms coiled around herself, as if to keep herself from falling apart. He wanted to be the one there for her, even if that might be his ego talking, Christian knew he never wanted to leave Ellie's side - ever. Just watching her, in distress caused him to get stressed - especially knowing he was the cause of this. Stupid, stupid, he cursed himself. He knew he should have gone to her, gone to Ellie the moment Antonia told him that she had created this potion, and that Christian would be the first immortal to try it. Because let's face it - not too many people wanted to give up their immortality, he certainly did. He had seen enough, wars, bloodshed, death, pandemics, fights, love, children, parties, everything. It was unnatural for a being to live as long as he has, and yet here he was, still alive and looking just the same way he had thousands of years ago. Here was Ellie, as bright and as bold as life itself. She certainly would change over the years, and Christian wanted to be able to compete with her for the gray hair, the crow's feet that came from laughing. Despite it sounding odd, he wanted to be able to think that any day with her was special - not that he didn't think it now - he still couldn't believe he still had Ellie in his life. Every moment he was with her, just knowing she was in his life was complete and utter bliss - certainly something he wanted to cling to for as long as possible. Then she spoke, and it felt like she had managed to get to his hammering heart and poke it, causing an electric shot to recoil through the Immortal. He did trust her, but that had been cracked slightly by that. Because of his cowardliness, his selfishness. Idiot, he cursed himself. Knowing Ellie, the only one who could read him like a book sometimes, would probably be able to see him scolding himself. He was, he had been an idiot to not tell Ellie this right away, but it had been out of his own stupidity, thinking she would leave, or just get completely flustered with his idea.
"I...know." he spoke, his voice soft, though collected despite the situation at hand, despite the fact he felt like he was falling apart inside. Glancing to see a small smile on her face, it took a lot of his self-control to grasp onto that small and attempt to make her completely smile. Have Ellie laugh, that adorable laugh, that light giggle she did and that embarrassed look she got every time he may kiss her and someone happened to be nearby, like one of the Twins from earlier that week. Christian hesitated slightly, and spoke quietly, as if picking his words carefully, "It...is, Ellie, beau, but I do not wish to cause you this distress...I'm so sorry." he confessed, sincerity painting his voice. "It's just...I don't want to lose you, as selfish as that seems, but I don't, I don't even to even imagine the thought of continuing on just...going by, without you, not after having had you in my life." Hey, he'd admit it was selfish, and it was, he was man enough - sometimes - to do that. The Immortal patiently followed Ellie as she traveled around Antonia's little home office, poking through some of the artifacts and objects that were on some of the shelves. At her comment, he grimaced slightly, and shook his head, loving she was quick, one of the hundreds, thousands of things he loved about Ellie, "No...she hasn't." For some reason, Ellie made him feel like he was a child again all of a sudden, about to get scolded by his mother for doing something. Even if that had been more than a millienium ago, Ellie was the only one that made Christian feel like an arrogant ass and a king all within the same moment. He frowned though, picking up her words. How would it be Ellie's fault? Ah, she would probably find some way to blame herself for his decision. They both tended to have a habit of doing that for each other. Taking a slight step towards the brunette, Christian spoke, "It wouldn't be your fault, Ellie. It would be completely on me, if anything were to happen." He reassured her, and he certainly wouldn't let her live her life thinking she was the cause of something if he got hurt. No way, most likely it would be his own stupid move or something - as if it hadn't been noted before, he could act quite irrationally when it came to Ellie and her well-being. But that would be before this, before he didn't need to worry about bullets, as he knew that this potion could possibly enable him to get sick, actually get a cold or the flu, or get hit by a bullet, feeling the sting of a sword like he had centuries ago on his cheek. It was a price though, to be human Christian was eager to pay, eager to be able to live a normal life with Ellie, she wouldn't need to forfeit anything, they would still be able to be together, though maybe...maybe it would be better...his thoughts paused. Should he let her? They said that if it is meant to be, it would come back. But his worry and panic clouded that, he couldn't do that, he couldn't let her go, could he? He would of course, he could tell her it would be better for her to find someone who was human. Who would be able to grow old with her without this. But Christian wanted this, he wanted to be with Ellie, he wanted to be human, and to worry about the silly things humans got to worry about. They seemed so simple, so...lovely when compared to forging documents every decade. Suddenly, his internal panic swerved and slammed into his logic and a bit of his ego when Ellie suddenly came to him, and his face was lifted to meet hers. Good Lord, if only she knew what she did to him every time that they touched. Every time he got even a glance from the beautiful brunette. It was stunning, amazing, the pleasant shivers down his spine caused by the stunning brunette. He loved everything about her, to her curly hair, to her stubbornness and her little ways of picking apart things and being able to analyze them in every aspect of life. Her ability to be able to overcome obstacles, her selflessness for those she cared about, the passion she had towards life itself, her little playful attitude, and their little stubborn fights they had. Christian heard her words, as one arm coiled around Ellie lightly, holding her there, not wanting to be too far from her like that, to know that he could lose her at any moment freaked him out, but he knew, if she did want to live a normal life without him in it - then he would let her, he wouldn't hold her back from something she wanted. "You're anything but a phase." he spoke quietly, so only Ellie could hear, though he knew for a fact Antonia had purposefully left so she was out of earshot, giving the two of them their private time together. One hand reached up and brushed back some of her curls carefully, as if she were extremely fragile, which Christian knew she could hold her own when it came to anything, but he would be there for her, to protect her, through thick and thin they said. The Immortal drew Ellie close, and nuzzled his face into her shoulder and neck, just - holding her, hugging her. It wasn't anything like getting married - this was permanent, and he was a decent believer in marriage, Christian knew someone could always back out of that. This one though, was forever. He was giving up his unlimited time on this earth so that when Ellie died, or he died first, neither of them would need to live without the other one. Sure, call it irrational, but Christian knew that what he had with Ellie was something he never felt before - that he could easily say from experience. He had thought forever ago he loved Camila, turns out he did love her, but Ellie was just...everything. After a few moments, Christian raised his head, having just...thought about it. He spoke, "It doesn't need to happen tonight, Ellie." he commented, though that also meant he would still be doing it, "I know it may be rash to some, but...I know that I don't want to think about the idea of not having you in this world after being in it...with...me." he wouldn't dare voice his thought on letting her go live her own normal life, as he figured she would have thought of that by now. "First though...beautiful Ellie," he wanted this out of the way first, "Will you ever forgive me for not coming to you earlier than now? I was an idiot, I wasn't thinking clearly."

Ellie sighed and closed her eyes for a moment or two, running her hands through her curly hair and taking in Christian’s words. She couldn’t be all that to him. It made absolutely no sense to her. What Christian was saying…well that was only said in sappy romantic novels and movies. She would completely deny that such feelings could exist, except she felt the same for Christian. It was highly illogical to be so connected to a person, yet here was proof in front of her that it did happen. She hated when the impossible proved true; it made her doubt the logic she relied heavily on.
And logic was what Ellie was going to fall back on now. Maybe she could convince Christian that way, because it was clear he wasn’t listening to anything else she said. “Have you thought about what this potion could do? At all?” Ellie didn’t have a clue how the potion would work – which drove her insane – and it was hard to argue what effects could be, but she figured she’d just go down her list of paranoid and hypothetical situations with hopes that something would get through to him. “What if your body gives out because it’s been around for over 2,000 years? Or it tries to catch up on aging? Or what if you completely change? Or…or…I don’t know. Turn into a zombie or something and try to eat people’s brains?” The last suggestion was farfetched and Ellie was just throwing it in to prove how worried this whole thing was making her.
She shook her head vehemently when Christian said that she wouldn’t be at fault if something were to happen to him, her curls following in a moment of wild movement. “It’d entirely be my fault.” She’d take a 100% of the blame if anything did happen to Christian. “Without me, you’d never take the potion.” It was only because of Ellie that he was considering taking the potion. If it weren’t for her, he would go on living a perfectly happy Immortal life, unaffected by all the dangers in the world. But he wanted to change because of her and it made her responsible. “I’m causing you to give up everything, Christian. I think I get the blame.”
Ellie had been right though; walking too close to Christian had been a bad idea. She squeaked as Christian’s arm went around her waist. She should’ve been expecting it, she supposed, but it still came as a surprise. And the moment the Immortal’s arm was on her, her mind went fuzzy and her thoughts off track. Everything was over flooded with Christian. Her thoughts, her senses. Everything. She felt tension leave her body that she hadn’t even realized was there as she completely relaxed. Things could’ve been perfect.
Until Christian went and reminded Ellie exactly what they had been talking about. She almost sighed at the fact that Christian wasn’t going to try to take the potion tonight. It didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to take it – because Christian didn’t give up that easy – but it meant that Ellie would have more time to try to convince him otherwise. Because she wasn’t going to give up either. Despite that, she felt her heart soften at Christian’s inquiry of whether or not she could forgive him. There was nothing to forgive, in Ellie’s opinion. As angry as she was, there were so many other factors that had led them to this situation and it wasn’t Christian. To give him a piece of mind though, she said “Of course I forgive you!” And then wrapped her arms around Christian’s neck and pressed her lips to his.
-------
Ellie wished she wasn’t always right. Well, maybe she wasn’t always right, but it seemed true when all of the bad things she had thought would happen actually did.
Christian had ended up taking that stupid potion. At first, Ellie had thought that maybe she had been completely overreacting over the whole deal. Did she like the fact that Christian had done what he did? Not at all. But he didn’t seem any different, didn’t look any different. So Ellie had started to relax. She still felt horribly guilty that he had given up his immortality and the fact that a small portion of her selfishly was over joyed at the thought of growing old with him didn’t help matters.
So, feeling over confident, she had suggested that they go out and look at more of Italy. Ellie should’ve let him rest, she was telling herself now. There was no reason to run out and do something right after. And of course Christian had gone along with the whole thing without regards to his health because she wanted to go.
The part of town they had gone certainly wasn’t the nicest. It was still interesting though, and they had spent most of the day without incident. That was, until it started to get dark and they decided to walk back to the car to head home. Some man had blocked them in an alley when they had almost reached the car, shouting in Italian and gesturing wildly to Ellie’s purse and the knife he was holding. As per usual, Christian had stepped in front of Ellie. But he no longer had the protection that he had as an Immortal and the man ended up stabbing Christian a few times.
Which had been what led them to the hospital they were in now. Ellie had been able to flag down another couple who luckily spoke some English and was able to help get her and Christian to the hospital. Once there, Christian had gone directly back for care, leaving Ellie to pace the hallways. She had called Antonia, who came over at once. They sat and worried in the hallway until Christian was finally stable enough to move to a room and then sat and worried in there.
Ellie had lost count of how long they had been at the hospital, but it was long enough for Antonia to insist on Ellie going to get rest. The girl had refused, of course, and after a battle of stubbornness, Antonia finally wandered down to the cafeteria to at least get something for them to eat. Ellie was left sitting in a hard, plastic chair next to Christian’s bed, her hands lightly holding one of his and listened to his light, rhythmic breathing.

The Immortal watched Ellie carefully as she seemed to be ready to try every possible angle. He expected nothing less of her, of course. Ellie wasn't the type to only try and think about one thing from one viewpoint, she tired every little part, every direction that she could. Christian had always admired that about her, as people now-a-days tended to think with just their own little one-way street. "I have." he answered softly, then a small grin cracked across his strained features upon her inquiring if he became a zombie. "That's exactly what would happen, beau." he then quickly reassured her, "The only thing that will change is that I will age normally, I'll still hear thoughts, and see what you're feeling." As he let her speak, one hand in his pocket on his pants, the Immortal jumped at the chance of being able to touch Ellie, being able to be near her as he wrapped his arm around her waist. It sent electric chills down his spine as it never seemed to fail to do. It was like every time they touched or even looked at each other made his blood boil with passion, the love he felt for Ellie was unlike anything he'd ever felt before. Now he could understand what Shakespeare had been writing about, all those poets, it made sense. They had found their soul-mate somehow, and put it down on paper. Made sense either way. Excitement poured over him as she said she'd forgive him, and their lips molded to each other's. It was perfection, bliss. He loved it every time they got to kiss. Every little touch was wonderful. Christian happily returned the kiss, never wanting to be without Ellie, or too far from her. - - - - - - - - - - It boiled. Not just figuratively, but literally. He had felt it coil around in his stomach like parasites, before spreading through his body. Antonia had warned him it would feel strange for awhile, but he wasn't sure her definition and his were very close. Ellie though, his focus was on her. He'd ended up taking it, and though it couldn't be helped, Christian could see the slight disdain behind her eyes, even if she wouldn't admit it. Their auras had dulled, which would only be temporary while his body adjusted to it, though his telepathy was definitely up to par. Course having been relaxing by Ellie's side most of the day, his stomach churning slightly, Christian couldn't say no to her when she asked about going out. Why not? He wanted to show her every part of this beautiful country, and possibly even the other countries around it. Perhaps they could visit France and Spain here before their trip ended - that certainly seemed like a good idea. Grinning boyishly, Christian turned to Ellie slightly as they were talking and walking through town all day, still feeling the slight uncomfortable twisting in his stomach and his heart - which felt strange, but nonetheless he was going to live through this, he knew he would. When they had grabbed something to eat, he had wanted to test it out by poking himself with a fork, but Ellie being there, obviously didn't trust to leave him to his own devices when she wasn't looking. If you asked him what he could remember from the....incident, he knew the man had been wanting Ellie's stuff, her purse in general. Would he let that get by? Hell no, but what he hadn't been expecting was the potion to work quite as soon. The searing pain was something he hadn't experienced before, never something like this. The pain he had felt when he got his scar on his cheek was a 0 on a scale of 100 compared to this 101. They said getting stabbed, shot hurt like hell. He understood. Guilt washed over the Immortal-turned-mortal, as he inhaled slowly, feeling one of his lungs most likely begin to collapse, due to having been clipped by the knife. Shit. Stopping his breathing, Christian did fade in and out while they were getting to the hospital, but one thing kept running through his mind. Ellie. Ellie. What she okay? She hadn't been hurt he knew, the knife had been dropped the moment blood stained the street. His blood. He hadn't seen it before, it was such...a weird concept. The pain was nothing he had ever felt before, it was...thrilling if he didn't have the darkness clawing at his vision. Upon arrival, Italian flying around him a hundred miles a second, he did what they asked, follow the little light and all that. Fortunately they said he would most likely make it to Ellie in broken English, before Antonia arrived, and Christian was carted off into a room to be finished. All these tools. This hospital. It was weird to see it from this side. He'd been a doctor before, he knew things. Though what he was allergic to? Well - he certainly hoped nothing, as he hadn't ever had an allergic reaction, but they would see soon enough wouldn't they? Medicines? No, they didn't work on him - until now. Groaning in pain, Christian felt though, an IV poke his skin, which...felt odd. Course he knew morphine was now probably making its way into his system, he then felt a mask over his face and the doctor tell him, "This will make it easier on you. Deep breaths." Didn't have to tell him twice. He wanted to know Ellie was okay. Self-loathing told him, jabbed him with a pointy finger to ask the nurse if she was all right, if she was in another room in the hospital too. "No, la tua ragazza é qui." Reassured, though still panicked, he managed to choke out clarification, and upon hearing she was waiting, Christian let the gas and the IV knock him out. To say it felt like being hit by a truck was an understatement. How long had he been out? Upon opening his eyes to stare at a ceiling, he frowned slightly, as he began to allow his body to reboot. Twitching his feet and fingers slightly, he felt one odd trinket on his finger, then something poking his nostrils. Frowning, Christian reached up and toyed with the oxygen thing. What the hell? Yanking it off, he grunted when he realized they had secured it with a little piece of tape. Dammit, that hurt! Grunting, his eyes suddenly landed on Ellie in the chair in the room, and soon Antonia appeared, a look of relief on her face. "...Ellie..." Christian whispered, his throat suddenly feeling like someone had poured hot sauce down it. He wanted to be sure she was okay, physically and emotionally. He heard the machine next to him start to beep more, realizing it had to be his heart monitor. Interesting. Glancing to the IV in his hand, he wrinkled his nose. So many...machines. He...it felt odd to him, like a dream. Was he still knocked out? Inhaling slowly, he winced and looked down to the god-awful hospital gown, as Antonia set down some food for him and Ellie, giving Ellie a sharp look once more to eat or rest as Christian was awake. Pulling up the pillows, he then grabbed the nearby cup of water Antonia offered him, wincing as he felt something stretch. Stitches? Pausing, he looked to Ellie, knowing he probably looked comparable to a ghost. "I'm...so sorry...Ellie." The odd thing was, had he been close to death? He certainly hoped not, he hadn't seen the white light or anything fun, so did that mean he wouldn't go to heaven? Or just not his time. Pushing that thought aside, he was relieved mostly upon seeing Ellie unharmed, just looking exhausted. "You're lucky you didn't have an allergic reaction to anything." Antonia commented, staying by Ellie and giving the girl's shoulder a gentle squeeze, Christian glanced around the room, before back to them, "How long...have we been here?" Antonia paused, giving Ellie a half-hug and mused, "It's about 7 in the morning now. You just got out of....the OR around 4 this morning." Scowling, Christian lifted up his gown slightly, and dropped it. There were bandages. It couldn't be him. It just..didn't feel right. It felt...unnatural, like it was all a dream. He hoped not, well - he didn't care as long as when he woke up Ellie was there. Lifting his hand with the IV in it, he clasped Ellie's hand gently, "Are you okay?....Have you slept at all?" He'd probably get a retort, but her health was also his concern, before his own even. Antonia gave him a look before she spoke, "I'll leave you two for a few, I'll be right outside in the hall." patting Ellie's shoulder gently, the witch left, and Christian looked to Ellie quietly, almost...ashamed. "I'm...sorry Ellie." he apologized again, shifting slightly and feeling bandages and stitches as he did so. What was it, like four or three of them? Three it felt like, then another for what he assumed was the OR's doing. Looking to the beautiful brunette beside him, Christian felt....dirty. Horrible. If he hadn't taken the damned potion, this wouldn't have happened, he wouldn't need to be putting Ellie through this.

This was absolute hell. Ellie couldn’t take the waiting and worrying, which was all she had been doing since that awful, evil man had stabbed Christian. It had been the worst before Antonia got here, when everyone spoke in only Italian and Ellie couldn’t understand a word of it. Sure, she knew some Italian, but the panic that was bouncing all around her mind pushed any hopes of translation away. And with Antonia there, not only did Ellie have someone to translate for her, but also someone to worry with. Sure, the nurses and doctors could sympathize with her, but they had other patients to look after. Antonia could be there for the support she needed.
Though now, she wasn’t sure what was worse – the worrying while Christian had been back in surgery, or the worry now, with him in front of her. Because in some ways, it was more awful to have him lying in front of her where he didn’t seem like Christian at all. He just seemed so…lifeless. It was a way that Ellie never thought she’d describe the Immortal but there it was. He just always up to something. Always moving or doing one thing or another. Christian seemed to have this passion for life, despite the fact that he had already lived for so many years. Ellie loved that about him. And now he looked half dead.
It was all her fault too. Every little bit of it. Christian might try to say otherwise, but Ellie knew it was. He had protected her from the would be mugger and had been vulnerable because of that stupid potion. The potion that he decided to take because of her. Because Ellie had to be human and Christian was unlucky enough to fall in love with her. Otherwise, Christian would’ve just been typical, invincible Christian. The knife would’ve broke the second in came in contact with his skin and they would’ve made it back to Antonia’s safely. They would’ve sat out by Antonia’s pool at watched as the sun set and the stars claimed the sky. Christian wouldn’t be lying in the hospital bed, hooked up to all the different machines with stitches in his side and skin as pale as it was now.
She felt like she was going to cry – something the brunette rarely did. But everything was so overwhelming and she felt horribly guilty over the whole situation. So Ellie propped her elbows on her knees and then pressed her closed eyes into the heels of her hands in order to stop the tears. God. All of this. It was entirely her fault. Ellie was a danger to Christian, the last thing she wanted to be but somehow continuously seemed to be so. She should’ve realized it before, but it didn’t seem quite as bad when Christian couldn’t really be hurt.
Ellie would give anything to switch places with Christian right now. It wasn’t fair for him to be in the hospital like this. She would’ve done anything to prevent this from happening. The girl almost had, but had stopped herself at the last moment. Which made her feel even guilter.
See, she had been prepared to tell Christian she didn’t love him anymore. It was a complete and total lie. Christian would’ve been able to tell that it was a lie just by looking at her aura and thoughts, though should’ve known that it wasn’t possible to stop loving him. Still, she had hoped (as mean as it sounded) that he’d be too stressed by the simple statement to think logically and check all of that. Ellie hated herself for considering hurting him in that manner and that was the reason she had decided to not lie. Who was she to do that to him? If he really wanted to take the potion, then there really wasn’t much she could do about it.
If given the chance to go back to just before Christian took the potion, Ellie would’ve done that in a heartbeat. Christian’s feelings being hurt was nothing compared to him physically being put in danger like he was. He would’ve gotten over her. But what if the stupid would be mugger had aimed the knife better and stabbed Christian in the heart instead of the side? Ellie would never forgive herself for putting Christian in as much danger as she already had.
She wasn’t sure how long she had sat like that, with her face buried in her hands. And then Christian grunted. Ellie was half afraid to look up. She was afraid of getting hopeful that he was waking up and then realizing that it wasn’t true. So she didn’t, until she heard her name. It might’ve been kind of raspy, as if the voice saying it hadn’t spoken for a very long time, but the very sound was music to her ears. It meant Christian was awake. Her head shot up, her brown eyes full of tears for a completely different reason now. Ellie was silent for a few moments, unable to make a sound. Her heart had jumped into her throat the moment her eyes landed on the now conscious Christian.
“Christian!” Ellie finally exclaimed once she was able to speak, though it came out more as a whisper than a loud shout. She couldn’t move other than to speak and practically sat frozen in her seat. She wanted to hug Christian tightly and not let him go, though she knew it’d hurt his wound. Ellie didn’t trust herself to do anything else though, which was why she wasn’t going to move. It’d be better to keep a little bit of distance than to accidently hurt him.
Luckily, Antonia came in and distracted Ellie before she did something she regretted. Ellie leaned back into the half hug Antonia gave her. It felt good just to know that someone else was there with her, going through the same worry that she was and being able to understand what she was feeling. Otherwise, Ellie wasn’t quite sure what she’d do.
Though she practically jumped forward when Christian took her hand. He kept a light grip on it, but Ellie clasped his one hand with both of hers and squeezed. Not hard enough to hurt him, but enough to show just how relieved she was that he was okay. “I’m fine,” Ellie said in a quite tone, still feeling as if something was stopping her from completely talking. But the tone she used was clear; her own health didn’t matter right now and Christian shouldn’t worry about it. He was more important right now. And for that reason, she didn’t answer his second question because it’d only cause him stress. Of course she hadn’t slept – she had been too worried over Christian to actually be able to calm herself enough to rest. Besides, she didn’t want to.
“But you need to stop apologizing.” Ellie said it gently, though it was clear she wasn’t going to argue that fact. He wasn’t at fault and that was that. It was all her fault. Hers and that mugger’s. She should’ve done everything in her power to stop him. “And you need to stop moving so much. You’re going to hurt something more.” Good old Ellie. Back to her bossy ways. But it stemmed from caring.
The brunette let go of Christian’s hand with one of hers and lightly pushed Christian’s hair away from his forehead. A light smile was on her face and her eyes were overfilled with relief at finally seeing Christian awake. “I was so afraid I was going to lose you,” Ellie admitted, her voice cracking slightly.

Some would say it could have been stupidity that turned Christian to have him protect Ellie from anything, even a shark attack if he could help it. No, Christian didn't believe he was stupid, he reacted based on his principle, protect Ellie no matter what. He'd much prefer for it to be him in this hospital bed rather than her. With the wound on his side, he wasn't entirely sure how long that could take to heal, as the one on his face when he'd been a child had well, only taken a few days with a medicine from his mother. And that had been centuries ago, now there was much more technology. He rubbed his head slightly where the tape had been securing what he figured to be oxygen attached to him - for whatever reason. Taking it off from around his neck, he noticed a nurse looking in concerned upon seeing him do that. The Immortal shook his head. He wasn't going to look that horrible, as he could only imagine he probably didn't look the best. His worried eyes fell on Ellie the moment she moved, lifting up her head and their eyes met. He knew he would never build a tolerance to the beautiful brunette. Her expressive, passionate eyes, the little way her features contorted slightly every time she attempted sometimes to give a good retort, but most of the time she did a pretty good job of it. It was just everything about Ellie that Christian adored, from the way her eyes could betray her thoughts without him having to hear them, to the way just even a glance from her made him feel. Like a demi-god if he were to dare to go that far. No, more like a King, and she was his Queen. His telepathy began to reboot in a sense, and he was painfully slammed with tons of thoughts, instantly recognizing Antonia's and Ellie's, Antonia's a mixture of Italian and English, with Ellie's in pure English in a sea of Italian and a few other languages.
Eyes locked onto hers quietly. He loved looking to her eyes, they were always so gorgeous, so beautiful. Christian grinned lightly towards her, unable to help it. Besides, she made him feel so...normal, alive couldn't be the right word as he always felt so alive around her, but normal was definitely a good word he wanted to use. Good Lord, when she yelped, well - whispered his name, it sent chills down his spine. Not because of the softer volume, but because of what it did to him every time she said his name, whether a whisper or even in a scolding tone, it brought him the same emotions since day one. Watching her eagerly as she approached him and her hand took his hand that was clear of things besides the little device on his index finger, probably one to help keep an eye on his blood pressure or something. Either way, Christian wouldn't worry about it. Ellie was safe and alive, and happy - he hoped. That's all that mattered. Relief flooded his system and he flinched slightly, feeling the pain killers kick in. Lovely. Those would be interesting to deal with later. He hated pills, but he was sure Antonia and/or Ellie would find a way to make him take them eventually. Giving the brunette a silent look upon realizing she hadn't answered him on whether or not she slept, he wouldn't push. He felt self-loathing rush through him like the medicine. He hated himself for putting Ellie through this, for allowing himself to get hurt. Well - he would always make sure it would be him over her, but he absolutely hated seeing her this stressed, this panicked and without rest. Stroking her hands gently with his thumb, Christian mused, "Are you hungry?" Sure, he was probably attempting, to keep her attention off him, as he was much more concerned about her, and he would keep pushing till he was sure she was all right. Feeling his stitches shift, Christian wanted out. He didn't like it here. He didn't like feeling this...weak. This vulnerable in front of Ellie. Looking away for a moment he inquired, "Did they say when we can leave?" He didn't care. He wanted to get back to Antonia's, get back to his time with Ellie without the hospital in the picture. He paused when she told him to stop apologizing. Frowning slightly, he mused, "I'm pulling my brat card....I will till you accept it." The Immortal grinned weakly, no, he couldn't call himself an Immortal anymore. He was just...a human with the ability to see auras and hear thoughts. Like a psychic, like Antonia in a sense. He chuckled upon her telling him to stop moving, shifting around. Christian glanced down to where he knew the bandage and the stitches were from not only the knife, but probably the surgery as well and he mused, "Fine...I'll be good." Relaxing his head against the pillow, Christian sighed heavily, testing the bandages, and nodded in approval before looking to Ellie when she then admitted having been afraid, brushing hair off his forehead, about losing him. Drawing her close, Christian placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, his body regaining control as he fully came out of the stupor, "I won't leave you. Especially not like this." he promised, before looking up as a doctor entered, and he inquired, "Do you prefer English?" Christian glanced to Ellie and nodded as Antonia entered, brushing some of Ellie's curls behind her shoulders. The doctor gave him some ways to keep an eye on his stitches and to come back in two weeks if they were still here, and that he'd let the doctor in Manuka know to remove them if they returned. Thankful, Christian nodded and soon managed to talk Antonia at least into letting him change out of the gown, and got into a pair of pants. The male eyed his shirt warily, then looked to his side and gave Ellie an innocent grin, as Antonia had gone to get her car to drive it around to get the two. With a bag for the pain killers and some of the wound care, Christian was thankful they had deemed him healed enough to go home, but to return if anything was out of the ordinary. He knew Ellie would make sure he would - most likely till he fought her for it. Looking to his wrist where the band was, Christian drew Ellie close, his shirt in his head, and he mused, her at his good side, "I'm sorry I made you worry...if you could...possibly help me?" Upon getting his sorry butt clothed, Christian headed out of the hospital with Ellie, getting discharged quite easily. Turning to Ellie, Christian grinned as Antonia mused, "You two get in back." She ordered lightly, taking Christian's prescription, as the male looked around keenly, his attention on Ellie as they returned to Antonia's place. He loved it here, he loved Ellie so much. It was heaven, and he wouldn't let this dampen it at all. - - - - - - - - - - It had only been three days since they returned from the hospital, and Christian had fallen asleep with Ellie in her bed. They had been talking a lot of the night, enjoying the view from her room and they just drifted off. It felt odd, having to actually sleep and feel...super energized. Christian had woken up before her, and kissed her forehead gently, before heading to his room to change clothes and going to the kitchen to change his bandages. Stretching slightly, he grunted as he felt his skin tug slightly. Frowning, the male then pulled off his shirt as Antonia entered, "Why are you stripping in my-?" her voice stopped when Christian lifted his bandage he'd changed yesterday and their jaws dropped. He looked to the stitches and swiftly began to have Antonia completely cut them out. Christian scowled, "I've been around humans long enough to know something like that doesn't heal that fast." he poked his side, feeling his muscles twitch slightly, poking the faded scar, like he had had it for decades. Antonia scowled, before looking as Ellie then entered. Pausing, Christian turned silently towards the most wonderful woman in the world. Still wide-eyed, the male looked between her and his wound, before speaking, "It's gone...." Did that mean the potion had...worn off? Scowling, Christian - ignoring Ellie's and Antonia's comments, took a knife and dragged it over a small part of his skin. Nothing. No blood just..the knife and his skin. Horrified, Christian threw the knife away, placing both his hands on the counter, "It was temporary..." Would that mean he would still be immortal? Of course, the potion had only lasted about 4-5 days, and the stabbing probably didn't help. Christian turned to Ellie, his beautiful Ellie quietly, before dumping the stitches away, and looked to his scar, before sliding on his shirt, but leaving it un-buttoned. Antonia muttered a few things in Italian and dismissed herself to wake up Franco and Leonardo. Christian approached Ellie quietly, "Did you sleep all right?" He was healed, and the worry was obviously evident on his face, as his palms cupped Ellie's face for a moment, before they dropped, "I...I don't think..." he sighed, "Looks like...mortality was only temporary...unless I take it more." he paused, though fell silent, "Can I ask we..." he had been under house-arrest by Gabriel while Antonia had taken Ellie out all day yesterday to occupy the girl, before Christian then inquired, "Just...spend our day together?" He wanted more than anything just to do whatever Ellie wanted, to be right by her side. Christian was the best thing that had ever happened to her. That was it. Pure and simple. Someone she didn’t deserve, true, but something she had got all the same. Someone she was thankful for every single day. Which was exactly why this whole thing had torn Ellie up so much. She loved him more than anything in the whole entire world. Hell, she loved him more than she had ever thought possible. And to know that she was responsible for all of this was absolutely horrible. What kind of person was so irresponsible to do that? Ellie was, apparently.
That smile. God. It made Ellie feel all the more guilty for everything that had happened. Guaranteed Christian was going through the same feeling, thinking all of this had been his fault. That wasn’t fair. None of it was and he shouldn’t have to think about that when the most important thing was that he was focusing on recovering. But of course Christian was too stubborn and wouldn’t believe that this was her fault and Ellie wasn't about to get into that argument with him. Not now. It could wait until Christian was healed enough.
In order for that to happen though, Christian had to stop worrying about her. Her health didn’t matter right now because by most standards, she was perfectly okay. Ellie closed her eyes, momentarily focusing on the distracting motion of Christian’s thumb rubbing her hand. “It doesn’t matter,” Ellie said, opening her eyes to meet Christian’s. “And the doctors didn’t give us a time frame.” Though Ellie secretly wished it’d be a long time. Not because she liked seeing Christian stuck here – it was absolutely awful, for the record – but because she knew he’d have to behave if he were here. With a handful of doctors and nurses looking over him, Christian wouldn’t be able to get himself into too much trouble. Whereas, if he came back to Antonia’s, he would be more apt to ignore the rules.
She had to smile at Christian’s mention of the brat card though. Really, he was too adorable for his own good. “Somehow, it doesn’t seem right calling you a brat when you’re in a hospital bed like this.” The statement itself was true, but Ellie had said it in an attempt to ignore the fact that Christian had just said that he wasn’t going to stop apologizing. If they continued down that road, then it’d only be stubborn head butting. Though she was glad that he decided to actually rest instead of moving around.
And of course Ellie squeaked a little when Christian suddenly seemed to regain some strength and pulled her closer to him so he could kiss her on the forehead. She sighed in contentment, finally recognizing that everything was going to be okay. It only took that single kiss to make everything feel like it’d return to normal. Things would work out, Ellie realized. “You better not,” the brunette said, though it didn’t sound as threatening as it should. She was too happy to make it sound like that.
She had been a bit dismayed when the doctor said Christian could go, though she did like the idea of getting him out of the hospital. He’d just have to behave once they got back to Antonia’s. “You don’t like being in the hospital gown? I thought it was quite becoming,” Ellie teased, taking Christian’s shirt from his hands and carefully helping him to slip it on, keeping her eyes adverted from the bandages covering the stitches. She wasn’t typically the squeamish sort, but that just looked completely unnatural on Christian. He should never need something like that. “Come on. Let’s get you out to the car,” Ellie instructed lightly, her hand intertwining with Christian’s.
-------
Ellie couldn’t remember ever sleeping as well as she had last night. She and Christian had fallen asleep talking and Ellie wasn’t sure she had ever felt so content. It had been absolute perfection for her, falling asleep with her head resting on his chest and knowing that he’d be there with her all night. She would say he’d be there when she woke up, but Christian tended to be an early riser and she didn’t really think he’d still be there.
Her hypothesis proved right when she felt Christian stir and get up, kissing the top of her head before walking out of the room. Ellie couldn’t stop the slight smile that spread across her lips as she curled up on the bed, enjoying the feeling and not really ready to let go of it. But eventually she had to get up –which she did so with a sigh and a stretch – and started to make her way down stairs. She didn’t bother changing out of her pajamas, knowing she’d want to take a shower before they did anything today. Though she probably should’ve brushed her curls though, in an attempt to not look like a crazy lady.
But the thought was forgotten the moment Ellie walked into the kitchen and her jaw almost dropped (not because of Christian being shirtless, though that certainly did have an effect and had something else not shocked her more, Ellie would’ve been completely distracted by it). Instead, she stopped short just before entering the kitchen, eyes wide and hand over her mouth as if to stifle a gasp. His wound was already healed? That was impossible. Not if he was human. People just didn’t heal that fast. Unless the potion hadn’t been permanent like they had thought.
Though Ellie wasn’t quite ready for Christian to experiment with that yet. “Christian!” Ellie said, no longer frozen where she stood. She started moving towards him, but was much too slow. He had already dragged the knife along his arm by the time she had gotten close enough to even do anything. Ellie half expected ruby red blood to well along the knife’s path and was surprised when it didn’t. “Don’t do that,” Ellie scolded lightly, running her fingers along the spot where the knife had been, still not quite believing her eyes. It seemed impossible for that to not have hurt him when only a few days ago he had been in the hospital.
Then Christian’s back was to her, something she hadn’t quite been expecting but could completely understand. He was as freaked by this whole thing as she was. It was too much change going on in a short period of time and too much to wrap your mind around. Ellie put her hand on Christian’s shoulder, silently lending support. The brunette wouldn’t tell him, but she was partially relieved that the potion wasn’t permanent and had worn off. She wasn’t sure she could go through the stress she just had again. Christian being hurt in the manner he had been was something that Ellie was never going to let happen again. That would certainly be easier if he were practically invincible again.
When Christian turned around, Ellie’s eyes immediately traveled to where Christian had been stabbed. She knew it had healed but she still wasn’t quite expecting the spot to look like a scar that Christian had had forever. Ellie lightly ran her fingers over the spot, hating that that spot was because of her. She slightly covered it with her hand – pretending that if she couldn’t see it, then it wasn’t real – and then glanced up to meet Christian’s eyes. “I slept perfectly. Better than I ever have.” A small smile grew on the girl’s face as she momentarily forgot about Christian’s whole mortality stint and focused completely on the night before. She wouldn’t mind falling asleep like that for the rest of her life.
But the smile suddenly dropped off her face when Christian mentioned taking the potion again. He might not have been suggesting that he’d do it, but the very thought that this could happen again caused Ellie to panic. “Christian, ” Ellie said, slightly pleading. “We’re not trying that again. I don’t think I could deal with another hospital visit.” Ellie wrapped her arms around Christian’s middle and rested her head against his chest, her brown eyes closing. She liked listening to his heartbeat, comforted by the rhythmic thump. It meant that Christian was still alive and kicking and he’d stay that way if Ellie had anything to say about it.
She did pull back when Christian started to speak, wanting to look him in the eye instead of staying buried in his chest. “How could I say no to that face? Of course we can do something today.” Ellie asked, reaching up and pushing some of Christian’s hair out of his eyes. Ellie had missed him. Maybe it was a little ridiculous to miss him, considering they had practically been together this whole entire time, but she still did all the same.

A shocked look ran over the male's face when he suddenly heard his name as he had dragged the knife along his skin. Looking up he realized it was Ellie, and she scolded him lightly as she approached him, checking over the site where he had just dragged the knife along. Smiling softly, he mused, "I'm sorry mon amour." he whispered in Italian, eyes darkening as it settled onto him. The potion was temporary, so it was true. It was harder to take away immortality than to give it. Shaking his head slightly, annoyed not only with himself, but the whole thing, he twitched, mostly just in surprise when Ellie's hand touched his shoulder, offering him support. Upon turning to her, he felt her hand touch his skin, and his eyes followed her hand silently. It felt so...natural to be close to Ellie, to hold her, to be able to tell her anything and everything he wanted to. It was relieving as well for him. The immortal sighed softly, and noticed her cover the scar slightly, his own hand on that side lifted and placed it on top of her own, just wanting to be as close to her as possible. He sighed softly upon hearing her say pretty much no, saying no more hospitals either. A small smile curled along his lips as she spoke, and he mused, lifting his other hand and running it gently along her cheek, her jawline and brushed a bit of her hair out of her face, "What if I promised we could run if something like that would happen again?" course she knew him too well, the chance of him running was the chance of him never being able to hear people's thoughts. Most likely just wouldn't happen. Ellie would know that, she knew so much it was astonishing. She was quite bright, and always made it a point to showcase it, not obnoxiously, but she certainly used it to make sure she got her point across. Did he love her? What wasn't there to love? He'd answer. Christian adored Ellie with every fiber of his being - if that were possible. But he did. He couldn't and wouldn't imagine life without her after having it in his for upcoming a year in awhile. Only through Christmas and it would be a year. Sure didn't feel like it. So if she slept that good, Christian mused internally, he'd sleep with her again - not like that, you know what he's talking about. Just fall asleep with each other's arms around the other one, sometimes guessing and questioning who was actually holding who sometimes. Tilting his head gently, not that Christian wouldn't, no but it was the fact that he always left things like that to them, he was perfectly fine with anything and everything, as long as he got to be able to hold Ellie when-ever he felt like it. Within reason of course - sometimes. Suddenly her arms coiled around him and her head rested on his chest. Resting his cheek on the top of her head, his own arms mimicking what hers did and coiling around her, relishing the moment - more than he most likely should. Suddenly as she moved, Christian looked to her, the familiar chill that could be compared to no others flew down his spine every time they touched, even when she looked at him. Wonderful, he honestly couldn't wait to get back out to Italy. Beaming like a an idiot school boy who had just been told his school yard crush like him back, Christian mused, lazily toying with one of her curls, "Aw, I'm thrilled to hear that. Perhaps, a three-day trip?" he inquired, grinning sheepishly. She probably had thought he meant today only and come back here tonight, but Christian had been ahem - looking into boats to rent to take them across the Sea and to Spain for a few days. He'd done the math, worked everything out, and it would just be up to Ellie if she desired to go. He was perfectly content either was, as long as she was with him. Eagerly pressing his lips to hers, as if he hadn't been able to kiss her in months, though it had only been a few hours, Christian mused, after pulling back after a few moments, "Would you like to see La Via Appia?" he purred, allowing the Italian to slide along his tongue, also proud, feeling it always surge through his system when Ellie spoke the beautiful language. She had picked it up easily, not that he was surprised too much, as she was sharp. Quite sharp and he knew she could do whatever she wanted if she put her mind to it. "There are some wonderful things to see along there, as I'm sure you're aware of." He smiled lightly, eager to show Ellie his hometown - even if it was centuries old, "If so, go ahead and get ready, I can make us some breakfast real quick."
