It hurt like hell. Honest to goodness he loathed the fact every time he shifted it hurt. Now it was getting better, but only by so much. The more he did it, the more comfortable it got, it got easier. Sliding in his back door, his tail almost getting suck, the Maned Wolf then shook itself as the real dog of the house looked its way lazily. Baring his own fangs, the dog stood up and approached the lanky-legged animal, before the animal suddenly stood up on its back legs, and the fur vanished to reveal skin, and the 6'4" male stumbled slightly, grabbing his clothes as he did so and grinning innocently towards his German Shepherd named Levi. "I've told you multiple times, Levi." he spoke, running a hand through his hair as he then grabbed his shoes and slid them on, the dog blankly looked at the guy, tongue lolling out lazily. Patting the dog on the head, the male then strode out of his house and to his car, heading into town. Might as well as spend the day in town - he had nothing else better to do with his day off. Getting out of the vintage car and locking it, eyes keenly looked over the scenery around him, taking it all in. His eyes, with a spell and a few potions, weren't purple anymore. Most of the time. They were instead a deep blue with some hazel mixed in there, obviously allowing him to blend in easier with the humans, since it wasn't like his height helped at all. Stuffing his hands into his pants, the warlock twitched slightly as a vision rolled through his mind. It was of him and some girl - he couldn't see her face of course - she was fighting him. Wonderful. She wasn't any slouch either.
Having been trained by his foster parents though due to his past, they found it useful for him to know how to wield different weapons and such. The young man then crossed the street, long legs carrying him over the street then. Keeping to himself, he then browsed through the random stores, keeping his mind off the visions that dared to claw at them. It was one of the "dormant" powers he'd discovered, slight visions of the future, precognition. Like they would help, the future was always changing. Nevertheless he knew if he wanted to get the lottery all he had to do was work at it. Frowning slightly, his eyes caught the movement of another supernatural, the movement was too eloquent, too fluid and then he realized it was a vampire, obviously one that was older. He could probably hold his own, but he'd much rather prefer not to worry about it. The hybrid shivered slightly before grunting when he bumped into someone, "Whoa, my bad." he spoke, flashing a quick grin as he continued. No way was he going to pick a fight with someone. Not right now. Not on this partially sunny, gorgeous day. It was time to just waste time. He just prayed someone came to help pass the time.

Jude could already tell today was going to be a good day. She had woken up this morning in one of her saner moods this morning, able to remember who she actually was and where she was. Now of course the reason she woke up wasn’t the best predicament. Her cat – who was a long haired fat cat – decided that it’d be fun to sit on her face and suffocate her. But even that couldn’t bring her down; nothing beat a sane day. Not when they were becoming scarcer and scarcer.
It was a perfect morning to go for a jog, Jude decided. She always had energy to burn, it seemed, even after she had only slept for a couple of hours after spending most of the previous day hunting. So she slipped into her exercise clothes, tucked a few weapons into hidden places, pulled her long hair back into a ponytail, and began stretching. No point in pulling a muscle or something. It certainly wouldn’t help during her hunting trips.
All stretched now, she started her run in the more deserted part of town, not really paying attention to where she was running. And since it was so quiet – Jude hated silence – she slipped her headphones in to try to block some of it. She wasn’t exactly paying attention to where she was going after that and had somehow found herself in the part of the city where there were more people. And while a normal person would’ve slowed down or turned around, Jude kept going. She didn’t really feel like turning around, though the least she could do was take her headphones out (which of course, she didn’t).
Though Jude didn’t think all of that mattered much; she hadn’t run into anyone yet. But it would seem as if Jude had thought that too soon, since just as she was priding herself for not bumping to anyone, she did just that. The girl had expected some rude comment about how she should watch her step, but instead had just given her a light remark and kept going. And maybe Jude would’ve let him just go on his way but she had caught the smile he had tacked on and Jude decided he was a person she’d like to get to know. Jude often decided she wanted to know people based on random little things like a smile or the way someone talked.
And because Jude wasn’t one to be shy or easily embarrassed, she turned around and ran back towards the guy, sprinting in front of him and then turning to jog backwards so she could talk to him at the same time. “Hi,” Jude said with a charming smile on her face. She didn’t typically try to be “charming”, it was just a trait that came naturally. And while most girls probably wouldn’t have wanted to talk to a handsome guy (because this stranger certainly was adorable enough to stop anyone’s heart), Jude didn’t even think about it.
She certainly was an odd girl, that Jude. Full of contradictions. Like the fact that she had weapons on her but wasn’t actually concentrating on her surroundings like most other hunters would. Or the fact that she had just said she wasn’t really worried about what she might look like, but now she was worrying about how he might perceive her. Maybe he’d think she was a complete nut job (wouldn’t be that far off base) and be entirely creeped out by her randomly talking to him. “I’m Jude,” the girl introduced herself, hoping it’d make this a little less weird. Except for the fact that she tried to shake his hand while running and she wasn’t all that coordinated. So instead of actually shaking his hand, Jude started to trip. Lovely.

The surroundings were quite something. Here with all these oblivious humans was quite - amusing in a sense. He wasn't horribly worried about the whole thing, as he looked like any other human unless of course he decided to show his true colors. Which he never would, as both of his sides would struggle, and hell who knew, he might even be able to cast spells as a Maned Wolf - he just hadn't tried it yet. That could be something easy to do and pass the time. Keeping that thought in mind, the hybrid then lifted his gaze calmly, mentally tracking some people he saw, mainly just because he was curious to learn about the people who inhabited this area. Mainly the humans. Jealousy streaked through him. Why couldn't he have a normal life? Realizing just how fast he had been walking, his longer legs striding easily over the cement and such, the young man slowed his pace, not wanting to stick out anymore than he probably already was. Wrinkling his nose slightly with a pained expression, his first reaction was to get out his phone and call the lady he'd been working with at the adoption agency. Why? He was getting her to try and track down his biological parents, they were out there somewhere and he wanted to know where they were. Blue-hazel eyes darkened slightly as his hand was stuffed into his pocket, finding his phone immediately. Should he just leave her a voice mail and see how the search was going? It couldn't be that hard, it had to have been documented, though he did know his father was a shifter and his mother a witch, hence his hybrid blood with his younger brother's. Scowling at this thought, he was jealous of his little brother, but by no means did he so much as hate him.
Hell he didn't even know him. Pausing passing by one of the windows to a shop, the male peered inside and realized it was a book store. He drew back. Ugh - those books. They love-hate relationship with them was going to prove to be quite annoying sometimes, especially since his dyslexia got worse half the time. Though the more he read the better it got, unfortunately he hardly found time to read. Dammit. Muttering something, he flinched when nearby trash suddenly caught on fire, startling everyone - including him, causing him to be innocent of course - as well with them. Stepping away, he shook his head and pressed on, ignoring the girl he'd previously bumped into. God he wished there was something to do today. Maybe head back to his place and work on the cars some more. Yes, that sounded good. Then he could call Wendy, yeah, that was her name, about his parents tomorrow. God he hoped she found them. Or at least his brother, that would be nice to be able to see someone at least from his immediate, biological family since he hadn't seen them in pretty much twenty years.
Suddenly, his thoughts and musings were interrupted when someone came around him, and the shifter was painfully aware as his wolf senses were always on alert it seemed, especially since he'd just shifted not too long ago. Hesitating, he realized it had been that girl he'd just bumped into a few moments ago, jogging...backwards. Interesting enough. One hand swaying as he walked, the other in his pocket, the male paused when she greeted him. Girls - they were so confusing. Was she saying hi because she just wanted to say hi? Or was she peeved he'd bumped into her earlier? Or was she wanting to strike up a conversation? Personally he hoped it was the latter and not the prior and about to get pissed at him. That was the last thing he wanted in public. Then, a name. Jude. Interesting name, definitely one he wouldn't forget. Grinning weakly, almost shyly, he nodded, clearing his throat, "Drew...well, Andrew." he responded, might as well as give her his name, it wasn't like there would be tons of other Andrews in the world, though he wasn't sure on how many called themselves or were called Drew. Nevertheless, Jude was a cool name - he did like it.
Slowing his pace slightly, not wanting Jude with her hair bouncing due to her jogging to trip, Drew then tensed when the girl suddenly started to trip. Well damn - it wasn't like he was going to let it. Throwing out both his hands, the male then managed to "catch" Jude for a brief second without his hands, mainly just with a quick spell that vanished a second later when his hands managed to catch her, one of his knees on the ground, supporting him as he caught her from about a foot from the ground, causing a few people around them to look at the two in surprise. Pausing, Drew smiled sheepishly, and hesitated, then got up, helping Jude up, "Are you okay?" he asked, acting as if he'd only had gotten pretty good reflexes. "Maybe you should just...walk next to me so you don't need to worry about tripping." he suggested, preferring not to have to throw out another spell again to keep her from hitting her head on the pavement. She was cute though, he'd give her that, which was why he was careful with what he said. Last thing he wanted to do was say something that she could take the wrong way. Pausing, he gestured to her ear phones, "What are you listening to?"

She kept thinking only the best thing could happen when it looked like only the worst could. He looked caught off guard and many people who were caught off guard weren’t the happiest. They were snippy, because they didn’t like to be surprised. And Jude really should’ve known better. You didn’t just walk up – or run, as it was in this case – up to people and try to start a conversation they clearly weren’t ready for. She’d say you’d have to be insane to do that but considering that she basically was, that line seemed a little overkill.
Regardless, she should’ve been expecting the initial silence; the situation in itself was a weird one. But with Jude added, well, she took quite a bit of getting used to and even then, people still weren’t sure what to expect. A moment of doubt flashed through Jude as she had one of her rare moments of remorse for putting the guy into this. He looked plain old awkward. Jude was rarely one to regret things – mostly because of her short attention span and inability to remember small details like that, not because she was heartless – and she was surprised that she actually was right now. She must’ve really messed up.
But the moment of hesitation was quickly stomped like the slug that Jude typically viewed negative thoughts to be like when the stranger told her his name. It was a start, right? Either he was more okay with everything than he appeared or he had been shocked into saying something. She would put her money on the second one, because what exactly did you do when you met people like her? That was the age old question. “Hello, Drew well Andrew,” Jude greeted with a teasing smile on her face. Oh, she was still perfectly sane at this moment and understood that the kid’s name was Andrew and he had the nickname Drew. But sometimes she just liked to tease and now would be one of those moments. She may or may not have the maturity of a three year old.
Or at least, had been until the moment when Jude tripped and her face became a mask of surprise. She should really watch where she was going and you think she would since she was a hunter. She should be aware of all of her surroundings. And yet, Jude could be the biggest klutz. Especially when she was distracted by things. Jude certainly wasn’t one who could multitask. As in, at all. She couldn’t try to focus on multiple things at once because she barely had the attention span to focus on one thing.
Luckily, Drew had been there to catch her. Jude wasn’t one who typically wanted help, not because she was one of those super feminist women who believed they could do everything themselves, but mostly because she never actually realized she needed help. Surely Drew had just saved her from hitting her head on the concrete. But she had to admit, right before he actually caught her, there was a moment where she felt as if she was almost suspended in the air. It was probably just some of her crazy kicking it because a nice morning without it was too much to ask for. If Jude were smart, she’d politely excuse herself from the conversation she had just tried to start, just in case she started to get bad. But because Jude wasn’t smart and was typically more on the stubborn side, she stayed put and told herself she wasn’t going to let control slip today. Mind over matter and all that jazz.
Jude smiled back at Drew, unable to help herself after seeing Drew’s own smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks.” Technically she was fine, in the physical sense. Mentally, maybe not, but she didn’t need to involve Drew in all of that nonsense. Jude chose to ignore the fact that she felt as if she had originally been caught by an invisible force and decided instead that nothing had happened. Drew had caught her right away and all that mattered was that she hadn’t actually gotten hurt.
“I’ll definitely just walk next to you instead,” Jude agreed, preferring to not make herself look like an idiot again. She did that enough and didn’t really need help from her own klutziness. “I don’t really have the coordination to run backwards.” Though it was slightly funny – to Jude at least – that she couldn’t walk like a normal human being, yet when she hunted, she moved with the grace of a dancer. Only showed more of her split personality.
The brunette was slightly confused when Drew asked what she was listening to. In all honesty, Jude had completely forgotten she had her ear buds in. No good at multitasking, remember? She had stopped concentrating on the music and was instead focused completely on not trying to kill herself and the conversation she was having. The brief moment of confusion showed on her face and could’ve been the first indication that something wasn’t quite right with the girl if you knew what you were looking for. But because Jude was in one of her better mindsets, she quickly recovered and pulled her iPod out. “Looks like I was listening to Jimmy Eat World,” she commented, and then glanced back up at Drew.
Maybe she was trying to cover her hesitation or maybe she was trying to make this conversation last longer. Jude really had no clue. “So where had you been heading to before all of this?” The question itself might’ve been a little weird – and slightly stalkerish – but Jude wasn’t sure what else to say.

Resisting the urge to do something idiotic - which would most likely end up with him doing something stupid or saying something that could be misconstrued, he opted to remain - quieter. That would probably be the best, especially considering since this girl had stunned him into a mild silence. Not that he was going to make anything awkward, but that he just preferred on not saying anything horrible. Sealing his mouth shut, tempted to possibly just dismiss himself politely, he figured eh - why not? Besides she was ahem - cute enough, she had those eyes that made him think that if he were to do anything, she certainly wouldn't hesitate to make sure if he did anything wrong, that he got reprimanded for it. Hearing her speak, the hybrid grinned shyly, "Sure, let's go with that." He chuckled lightly, almost nervously at her teasing. Though his mind was beginning to coil around this conversation, he was vividly aware of...something. It was like when someone bothered you and you can't place your finger on why exactly, that was the way it was right now. He couldn't figure out what was going on with Jude, but he certainly got the feeling that there was something more to her. Not to be a cliché with that since he didn't know her, but in the sense that there was something...supernatural about her. Not in the sense like he was, but in the sense that she definitely had, so to speak, tricks up her sleeves. Keenly watching this brunette, Drew straightened his frame upon realizing he had been slouching slightly as if to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb. Relaxing and ignoring it, he then tuned his ears to the conversation at hand.
Glad that Jude hadn't smacked her head on the concrete, he would prefer to stay out of a hospital if he could avoid it. They weren't his favorite places to be, especially since the last time he'd been to one, the booster shot they had given him, stung like someone had broken his arm because the nurse hadn't given it correctly. Ugh. Shaking that memory away, he smiled innocently at her thanks, "Don't worry about it, I've already let someone smack their head once today." he sighed, realizing that and shook his head at himself, "Sorry." he mentally smacked himself, and reassured himself just to shut up and respond only what was necessary. At least - thank god - there was nothing for him to read. Good Lord that would suck, especially like signs, those were the worse. It only got really bad if he panicked though. Pausing slightly, he glanced towards her, her hair swaying back and forth with her movements, a thankful sigh escaping his chest when she decided to walk next to him, therefore facing where they were going. Listening to her light words, he noticed he didn't really mind listening to her speak. That was - different. But nonetheless he didn't mind it. The hybrid grinned lightly and nodded, "Wonderful, I do appreciate it, since I'm not sure how other people's reflexes are in this town if you should try and run backwards with them." he flashed a sheepish grin. Course his were faster due to the shifter blood, but the magic hadn't hurt either. Thank god she didn't seem to notice it, or she had and she was ignoring it. Nevertheless he would go with it. Why ruin something that seemed okay?
Keeping himself from stuffing his hands into his pockets, like for comfort, he ran a hand through his hair, knowing he should probably get it cut - eventually. Arching an eyebrow when she mentioned the band, Drew grinned, "Oh yeah, with Jim Adkins?" he grinned shyly, "My...sister knows one of Jim's friends." Drew hesitated slightly, debating on whether or not to call one of his foster siblings a sibling, but she had been a decent enough friend when he had been in the house, so he figured why not. Drew then flexed his fingers slightly, feeling his powers twitch eagerly, as if wanting to show off. The easiest way to do what was with a magic trick. Those always got people enticed to watch and pay more too. Especially to be a volunteer for some reason. Drew knew he certainly wouldn't be one, but hey - to each his own. "Umm...nowhere." he answered lightly, "Mostly just looking for something to do, waste time." he grinned innocently, "You know, what people can sometimes do on their days off." unless he went to work on his cars. Hesitating, Drew inquired, "What about you? Just running for the fun of it or training for something?"

Drew was – to put it simply – cute. It wasn’t really an adjective Jude used to describe people very often, but it certainly fit on this case. Because Jude really couldn’t think of another way to describe him. No. Wrong. There were a billion different adjectives that were coming to mind right now – ahem…sexy, gorgeous – but she didn’t think they were entirely appropriate to use for someone she had literally just met. Using adjectives like that made it sound like Jude wanted to jump his bones, which she had learned was entirely an appropriate sentiment to have after knowing someone for only five seconds. Cute was safe and entirely true, so why not use it? Though she was sure many guys wouldn’t be too fond of the idea of being “cute”.
She desperately wanted to make a good impression on him, though the reason behind the sentiment would forever remain a mystery to the girl. It wasn’t unusual for her to feel or want something without ever realizing why. Jude was sure it was somewhere there in her conscience but digging for the reason wouldn’t really help at all. Sometimes she wished she could just be a normal girl without all these issues that she had that stupid vampire to thank for. If she wanted to get all philosophical about it, she guessed she could say that it was good being different and all that jazz. No one liked six billion perfect copies. And generally, it didn’t bother Jude all that much. Except for times like these, when she knew she’d somehow make a fool of herself and give a bad impression.
Jude found herself giggling – yes, giggling, which was a rare occurrence for her – at Drew. She was wrong about him being cute; he was downright adorable. His smile, his laugh, the slight embarrassment he seemed to have no matter what he said. Jude loved it all. The giggle certainly wasn’t made to make fun of Drew though, and Jude hoped he realized that and didn’t think she was just a rude, nasty person. She was laughing because he was adorable and that in turn was making her unexplainably happy. The girl was such a mess.
“Then I’ll walk like this specifically for you.” Jude poked Drew’s arm while saying “you”, only falling back into more of her three year old personality. Maybe it was a sentence that would’ve sounded sarcastic coming from someone else, but it was as far from the truth as possible with Jude. She just liked to tease – which was exactly what it had been. The girl really needed to know when to draw the line and call it quits, or at least figure out when such a tone was appropriate or inappropriate. Since neither seemed near in her future, Jude figured the people around her would just have to get used to it or get out of her life. But that certainly wasn’t the attitude to have when trying to make friends.
In an attempt to make up for it, Jude probably over compensated with her next statement. “Oh, really? That’s so cool!” She was excited to learn that – she really was. But her voice sounded almost too excited, too strained. It sounded false to her own ears when it was really meant to be genuine. Jude winced slightly and bit her lip, gaze traveling to her feet for a moment or two. Should she backtrack and apologize? No –continuing was the safest bet. Besides, Jude wasn’t one to really regret anything. While her actions were causing moments of discomfort for her, she forgot in a moment or two that they had.
The girl smiled in Drew’s direction, her eyes lighting up as she did so. “Looks like you found someone to waste time with,” Jude commented, motioning to herself and practically inviting herself along for the rest of Drew’s day. Socially appropriate? Hardly. Did she notice or even care? Not one single bit.
Jude stayed silent for a moment or two when Drew asked why she was running, trying to figure out the reason she was. Her brow furrowed a bit as her mind started to cloud and the sentence came out as more of a question than statement. “I guess you could say I’m training for something,” she finally said, realizing that she was running to stay in shape. It wasn’t training in the traditional sense of building up endurance to run a marathon or something. She was training so she could stay alive when she met a supernatural in a fight that she couldn’t quickly overpower. If she were slow and out of shape, she stood no chance.

Jude, in his mind was not only interesting and keeping his attention, but she was also quite....or at least a thought he got was that she could be quite eccentric if she wanted or needed to be. Yes, that definitely seemed to suit her. Get involved with everything, but yet still have respect. He liked that. Plus not to mention - though he wouldn't admit it - she was downright adorable. Or beautiful, he'd call her pretty to her face, since that didn't seem as "strong" as beautiful or adorable did. All three of those he figured too that girls probably wouldn't mind being called. Well - as far as he knew, and he was moderately decent when it came to girls, he was no awkwardness, but he certainly just didn't want to sit idly by and let someone he thought was pretty go by. Jude for example, had been perfect, she approached him. Which was better, as he tended to just....stray a lot when it came to girls once in awhile, usually finding an excuse to dismiss himself and not talk to one. For some reason though, as Drew thought about it, he knew he would have found a reason to talk to Jude if she hadn't spoken to him first. Well, plus if he ever saw her for more than just a bump which was what had happened. Kudos to her for coming up to him. Another thing he liked, when a girl would take control for herself once in awhile, instead of just lying idly by, he liked it when they would take care of what had to be if they couldn't get help. Granted Drew would be more than happy 98% of the time to help anyone, anywhere, anytime, but the other 2% were the ones, men included, who just took advantage of the kindness of others. Jude didn't seem to do that, which - he respected deeply for. His own internal musings and thoughts were placed on hold the moment Jude started giggling. Wait, had he done something stupid or funny? Quickly running through the last few moments, the only thing he could come up with was that possibly him apologizing? Probably. Giving an uneasy, yet fun grin in response to her giggling, Drew found that he wouldn't have been able to resist smiling.
Her laugh had been cute. It was..contagious needless to say. Upon hearing her speak, and then poke his arm, suddenly making the spot where she had poked his arm burn slightly, Drew nodded solemnly, grinning boyishly. "Wonderful, I feel special." he chuckled lightly, running one hand through his hair, "Course if you do begin to walk any differently, I'm going to have to put you right back here." he grinned into the playful threat. He continued walking, though slowed his pace so that Jude could easily keep up, but the girl didn't seem to have too much of a problem keeping up. Refreshing, though he understood. Being taller most of his life lead to him learning how to work with the people who happened to be shorter. Tilting his head slightly, Drew then looked to Jude quietly. Most of the time he wasn't one to push on through an entire conversation with someone, mainly because he found humans boring, and right now though, he could tell Jude was human, but there seemed to be something else, something else that told him to keep an eye on her. It didn't feel sinister just that he should get to know this girl more, what made Jude, Jude. Grinning at her response, Drew nodded, "Yeah...'cept for when your sister blares his music at four in the morning when your seventeen after getting home from his concert." he shook his head slightly, "I crashed, somehow she managed to stay up." he grinned at the memory. Course that was before he became a college student and graduated, therefore he was prone to all-nighters for finals and such.
"Do you go to college around here or something?" he asked, wondering if he may have even been with her in college, certainly not the same class, but college nonetheless. The college here was just like any other private college, good if you got in, a little pricey, but that was the private one, and then a public, community one nearby too. Therefore offering the best of both worlds in his opinion. Eying the brunette as she seemed to catch the tone he had slightly missed, but managed to catch, Drew grinned, "Don't worry, Jude..I get it." he reassured her lightly. Course after a few moments, like a roller coaster, Jude was bouncy and commenting, inviting herself along for the day. Wonderful, he thought, a broad grin melting along his features. He wouldn't mind that at all, being able to talk with Jude for most of the day. Drew nodded "Excellent, I hope I don't bore you." he shrugged lightly, giving her a gentle look, also meaning he pretty much meant it. The only thing really exciting in his life was that he could not only harness magic, but could shift into a Maned Wolf as well. Yeah, like he was going to tell Jude that right now. Please. Looking to Jude curiously, Drew spoke, "So then Jude, how long have you been here?" There, simple get-to-know you questions. Besides though, he certainly wasn't afraid to get to know her. "I was about to stop by this...place to drop something off, then would you want to grab something to eat or drink afterwards?" he inquired, gesturing towards a nearby café, "They have some awesome sandwiches, and other food. I'll buy too."

At least he hadn’t seemed too off put by Jude’s seemingly random giggle. Many would’ve already had quite the impression of her, and it certainly wouldn’t be a good one. Not Drew though. Or at least if he did, then he was very polite for hiding it and quite the good actor as well. His smile certainly seemed genuine. If Drew was hoping to somehow get out of this situation, Jude thought he’d appear all around more strained instead of the rather relaxed position he was in now. Jude hoped she was right. She wasn’t the best at reading people, but hopefully her limited skills were working to full potential right now.
Jude beamed at Drew, unable to keep a smile off her face. This kid was putting her in a fabulous mood and she barely even realized it. All she knew was that he was someone Jude wouldn’t mind seeing again. “Good. You should.” Jude felt like linking her arm with Drew’s and skipping down the street. That was absurd, she knew, but it happened when Jude was overly happy. Had she been with someone she hadn’t just met or was a slight bit further from lucidity, she sure as hell would have. Looked like Drew would get off easy this time.
Though that didn’t mean she’d quit teasing. Anyone who knew her knew that Jude was just like that. And someone feeding that reaction didn’t really help. “Is that a threat?” Jude asked, a sparkle in her eye. “Because you’re big, but I could take you.” Jude went into a mock boxing stance – fists raised, weight on the balls of her feet, the whole nine yards. She even lightly jabbed Drew a couple of times before laughing and allowing her arms fall back to her sides.
Truth was, Jude knew she could take him. She had brought down werewolves bigger than Drew, vampires twice as strong, demons with two times the drive. And sometimes, Jude just wanted to shout the world that she knew she could do that. Especially when people saw her and just assumed she was some delicate little girl or laughed at the suggestion that she wasn’t. Honestly, Jude wouldn’t be surprised if Drew had the same impression, because almost everyone did. With her being almost a foot shorter than Drew, it didn’t really help her cause. But admitting you were a hunter wasn’t exactly the greatest idea if you wanted to make friends. People tended to think you were crazy once you started mentioning the existence of other species. So instead – even though it would bother her – Jude would just let any assumptions he made slide.
Because right now, Jude didn’t really care. As long as they got along, who cared? And the better, Jude decided, because she was realizing that this period of lucidity was lasting longer than most. Typically, if she woke up in a good mood like she had, an hour or two later, she could feel her sanity slowly being eaten away before she became a mess and that just wasn’t happening today. Maybe it was just a special day but Jude didn’t typically believe in coincidences. She linked her arm with Drew’s, deciding that if he asked, she’d tell him it was because there were so many people and she didn’t want to get lost. But in reality, it was because Drew felt solid. Like an anchor. She had only ever felt like that with her best friend, Cas. And even then, this was different.
“Your sister sounds like my kind of girl,” Jude commented, tipping her head up so she could glance at Drew, a smile on her face. She did think that she’d get along with Jude’s sister though, just from that small description. Jude loved music and loud noises; combining them made both even better. She’d be the one to have wild dancing accompanying it. Though that brought up the question: “Are you a fun killer, Drew?” Said in a teasing tone, there was still a slight bit of seriousness behind it. Because if he actually was, then there was no way he’d be able to stand Jude when she was in one of her less than perfect states.
Her mind already traveling down that path, she had been slightly caught off guard by the sudden switch of conversation topics. “College?” she asked, like she didn’t know the meaning of the word. But then she got her mind back on track and the sudden remembrance of what college was was obvious in Jude’s eyes, but if you didn’t know she had a habit of forgetting things then you might not be able to catch it. “Oh…no. I’m just…here.” Jude shrugged. She had never stepped foot inside a college.
Of course her mind didn’t stay dwelling on that once Drew started talking more. He seemed okay with her tagging along the rest of the day, which was good because Jude probably would’ve either way. Her brown eyes glanced up again when Drew said he hoped he wouldn’t bore her, complete serious in them when she countered by saying, “I highly doubt that’s possible.” If anything, by boring, Drew meant normal. And that was a good thing, in her opinion. Because if you weren’t normal, then you were like her and that wasn’t always the greatest thing.
For example, she had very little memory. Couldn’t keep track of anything. So when Drew asked how long Jude had been here, she really had no clue. Days had blended together, time passed at random intervals. At times – when her memory was at its worst – Jude could swear things only happened a day or two before when it had really happened years before. So she stopped trying to keep track of how long she had spent in places because some days it felt like years when other times it felt like a week. “A couple of months,” Jude lied, figuring that an estimate was better than saying “I don’t know.” People didn’t like answers like that – it made them suspicious.
Luckily, Drew distracted her by asking her to lunch. “Really? That’s too sweet of you!” Jude agreed, almost bouncing up and down from the excitement of the suggestion. Though she wasn’t all that comfortable letting him pay for it, but she couldn’t real object seeing as how she didn’t have any money on her. “I’m paying next time,” the girl informed Drew, implying that there would be a next time. “Running shorts don’t exactly have a place for wallets, or I wouldn’t let you pay for me.” Nothing wrong with being honest, right?
