It was a beautiful sight really, the sun setting over the city of Manuka. Turned the sky all sorts of wonderful colors ranging from bright pink to dark purple, lighting up the little puff-like clouds scattered up there in the air. Normally Jesse would have wanted to be somewhere with his girlfriend, Leila, watching the free light show somewhere hidden away from the rest of the population. Tonight though he wanted to be anywhere but near her. A fact that had absolutely nothing to do with her personally and everything to do with the round sphere that would soon replace the burning orange one currently disappearing. It was full tonight you see and that meant he wasn't safe.
It had become sort of their routine in the past few months, he took off out of the city around sunset and ran as fast and far as he could with the hope that he would cause as little harm as possible on these nights. Then once he turned back to a human he would make his way back to their apartment and crawl into bed beside her where they would sleep cuddle next to each other late into the following morning. Obviously not a completely fool proof plan but it had seemed to be working so far and that was all that mattered. However, the last full moon had shown that not even his best attempts at getting away could keep something bad from happening.
He'd woken up in the middle of the woods as usual but unlike the other times he'd been covered in blood. It hadn't been his blood, not the majority of it at any rate seeing as he normally had a few cuts on his person and the only thing he could imagine was that he'd killed an innocent human. Granted there could have been other possibilities such as it was an animals or another supernatural creature or even a hunter but the fear that it had been some innocent human who had no clue such things existed or could even defend themselves was all he could thing about. Suffice it to say he'd returned home rather freaked out and basically in panic mode which Leila rather skillfully managed to calm after a short while.
Since then though he'd been dreading the next full moon and what it could possibly bring with it. Another scenario like last time? No, he couldn't risk that happening again. For three weeks he'd been trying to figure out just what he could do to make sure it didn't and was about ready to go crazy over it when he'd remembered a conversation he'd had with a buddy of his a couple months ago. Chandler Way, probably the nicest and down-to-earth person he had met so far in Manuka. And who also happened to be a werewolf. Accept, unlike every other wolf he was somehow able to remain completely coherent during the full moon. He'd mentioned it off-hand at one point and at the time Jesse hadn't given it much thought aside from being a bit envious which he'd jokingly mentioned then.
Now though it suddenly hit him how very important that trait could be in possibly helping him get through tonight. He'd called Chandler up earlier that week and after explaining what had happened the last full moon had asked if he wouldn't mind sort of going out with him this time and making sure he kept himself under control. Chandler had of course said he didn't mind at all and Jesse had given him the directions to the area of woods he normally fled to during these nights. It was easy enough to get to with gps and undoubtedly the other guy wouldn't even need it thanks to his enhanced sense of smell. Jesse was there plenty early so his scent would lead him right to the spot. He'd gone to a few different areas of this forest in the months prior and he'd picked this spot for the specific feature it boasted, that being a very large, old oak tree.
He wasn't just satisfied with having Chandler with him to watch his back. Not that he didn't trust the guy completely because he did but it wasn't fair to expect him to stop him from doing anything horrible. No, this time he was taking extra precautions and he'd need Chandler's help with it seeing it was put into place. Glancing at his phone he saw the other guy should arrive any minute, which was good because the light would fade fast once the sun was gone.
