They felt like they had lasted for forever, but in the greatest way possible. Jude felt like she had known Chandler for her entire life and it was hard to remember what her life had been like before he was in it. All Jude knew was that it had improved since she met Chandler. She didn’t have nightmares for the most part, especially when she spent the night with him. Sure, there’d be a couple here and there but nothing like the night after night that she had experienced before. And she was doing a lot better with her memory. It was far from perfect, but Jude found herself remembering little things she used to forget from time to time, like her address or where she put her key.
She could only hope she had such a positive impact on Chandler’s life as well. There were moments when Jude thought she was probably a lot more trouble than she was worth sometimes. She hated thinking that because she knew Chandler was too nice to tell her that she was. The hybrid was too much of a sweetheart to tell her that. So Jude tried to keep that thought out of her mind for the most part and tried to stay positive. If she were as much of a bother as she thought she was, they’d break up. Right? Why would Chandler want to stay in a bad relationship?
The hunter didn’t think they’d be adopting a dog if it were a bad relationship though. And by “they”, Jude meant Chandler was. She didn’t quite believe she was responsible enough to take care of another living being that was completely reliant on her. Besides, she didn’t really have her own place. She lived with her friend Annette in Annette’s apartment. Since Annette had a baby on the way, Jude highly doubted she’d be too happy if Jude brought a dog home. It’d be too much craziness at once. And it wasn’t like there was much of a place for the dog to run or get out its energy in the apartment. But that definitely didn’t mean that Jude couldn’t help Chandler find a dog. He had asked her to help him and Jude had no problem agreeing.
She had been ridiculously excited for days, waiting for this moment. Ever since Chandler had asked her, Jude had practically been jumping off the walls. There were times she actually forgot why she was so excited just because she was so ecstatic about it. And finally, the day was here. She looked like a little kid getting ready for their first day of school while she got dressed to leave this morning. You would’ve thought she was preparing to go do something exhilarating like a spontaneous trip to Europe. That was the thing though; it didn’t take much to make Jude happy. She guessed that could be either a good thing or a bad thing.
It didn’t really matter right now, though. Jude had set off earlier that day, heading straight to the pound. It hadn’t even occurred to her that she probably should’ve gone to Chandler’s first to make sure he was ready to go. It would’ve been more logical to meet there and then head here. And who knew with Chandler? He could still be sleeping. Sometimes he did that. But Jude really wasn’t worried at all. Honestly, at this point, she was too hyped up to even care about possibly having to wait a little while for him.
Jude decided to take a seat on a bench that was across from the pound, her feet bouncing off the sidewalk in an excited movement. She sent a quick text to Chandler to let her know she was actually there and then started to stare at the pound, wondering what kind of dogs they’d find there. Jude really had no clue. She had always wanted to come help out here, but she knew the moment she walked in, she’d want to adopt all the dogs. The hunter wasn’t too good at telling herself no. But she was going to hope she could exhibit a little bit of self-control today. Chandler couldn’t support a hundred dogs.

[style=width:350px; height:120; overflow:auto; padding: 5px; text-align:justify; font-family: tahoma; font-size:10px; line-height: 97%; text-transform: lowercase; border-right: 1px dotted #dded82; overflow:auto; color: #000;]All that time of not being treated very well seemed to be repaying all at the end. Chandler finally understood that mentality though. In fact, he found himself in such a good position that he didn’t think he deserved to be this lucky. Jude was perfect. Every little bit about her. Even the parts that involved Chandler trying to calm her down or having to remind him his name. His name wasn’t important in the grand scheme of things. He understood. She couldn’t help it. Although he hadn’t had to do that in a long time. Times of her throwing around in her sleep was starting to decrease. Even if some nights he woke up spread across the bed and her on the floor rolled in a giant cocoon with all the covers. Every moment just made him a whole different person. Chandler felt needed and wanted. He was sure that Jude would be able to do whatever she wanted without him, but he was so glad he was a part of this. He knew he had just about every guy’s envy. Didn’t bother him a bit.
Honestly, Chandler had been looking to get a dog for quite some time. Wandering around his place by himself even for as small as it was felt lonely. Obviously he was pretty good on having friends over and such, but he knew he was ready for a pet. Pets were like kids for people who didn’t have kids. Chandler didn’t really understand that phrase until he found himself preparing for all the equipment he needed. Leashes, dog bowls, food. Toys. He was planning on getting one. He’d probably adopt the whole damn store if he went in by himself, but at that moment, his mind was focused on a single pup. Preferably something big, as he wasn’t sure if he would be able to deal with having a small dog. Chandler was already huge. The last thing he needed was to pick his dog up by one hand and make him look even larger. Plus, there was something about a giant dog greeting you when you got home.
Who better to ask to come with him than Jude? Not only to make sure that he didn’t adopt everything he saw, but also to spend time with her. Chandler was a social butterfly and like most social animals, required someone to talk to all the time. He had a feeling that if the only person he had to talk to was the person showing him around, the buying the entire store chance was going to become worse. She pointed out to him that she probably didn’t have that much self-control either. He hoped for his sake she would try though. Plus, hopefully the pair was going to spend lots of time together. If all of this went well. In fact, all of this was going so well that it worried Chandler a little bit. For years, he had been the observer of bad relationships whether it be with Trent or just in general. He had never dated, yet it didn’t take that to know relationships were down right confusing. Cheating, cheater, clingy, never being there, giving all, not giving enough, fighting all the time, lovey dovey all the time, no spark left, changed feelings, someone else involved, parents don’t’ approve. The list could just travel forever. Jude and Chandler didn’t have that. His first relationship. It made him slightly worried.
He never talked about these insecurities to Jude though. Oh no. In fact, the thought really never crossed his mind until she left. When she was there, his mind was always preoccupied with the beautiful woman in front of him. It was after when he lay there thinking, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Chandler was pretty laid back, but this got his head into a tangled mess sometimes. It was as if he were waiting for something bad to happen. It was just going to spill down this rapid hill, and Chandler wasn’t going to be able to stop it properly. If there was going to be anything wrong, he knew it was going to have everything to do with his family. The Way family wasn’t so happy and keen on Chandler dating a human. No one thought it would last, so no one really spoke to him about it, but he knew his family well enough to know what was going on. His own mother was human. That made their family go down a line. Cain Way instead of Jared Way. He wasn’t sure if they would tolerate another. Especially since they weren’t quite aware he was a hybrid.
All of that talk and thought was going to have to wait. He had a date. Chandler looked at himself in the mirror. The whole ‘after you date long enough you stop caring what you look like’ haven’t phased him yet. His hair was getting really long. Chandler just didn’t find it in himself to cut it. He kind of liked it. It seemed to fit him somehow. Probably not something that most people would agree on. Shaking his furry hair a final time, he grabbed the keys to the Impala, and went to the human society place in Manuka. He wasn’t really the person to buy it from the pet store. The pound seemed more like the type of dog he’ll find. Pulling up, he already saw that Jude was on a bench, waiting for him. With a small smile, he killed the engine. She had to recognize the sound of the car. Wasn’t as if it was quiet. ”What did I tell you about being so early to places?” He said with a light tease in his voice, taking long strides to reach her faster.

She was getting anxious, not because she was afraid of Chandler not showing but because she really wanted to go play with puppies and waiting was killing her. In her mind, she had to say hi to all the dogs there at least once or she’d go crazy. Jude really was a gigantic five year old when it came right down to it. She had the patience of one, at least. And it had been forever since Jude had been around dogs (not including the ones she ran into and the park and things, of course) and she couldn’t wait to help Chandler pick a dog to take home.
She heard the Impala’s engine long before she saw it and the instant the sound hit her ears, Jude felt her heartbeat pick up and a smile spread across her face. The louder the engine got, the bigger the smile grew and Jude had to tell herself to stay seated until she saw him. Otherwise, she’d probably run up to his car as soon as she saw it. Once Chandler parked the Impala though, Jude shot up on her feet and told herself to not jump up and down. “Couldn’t help myself!” Jude yelled back, telling herself if she stayed put he’d be there soon enough. But Chandler was taking too long for Jude’s liking and her impatience kicked in. Once Chandler was within a few more steps of her, she closed the gap between them.
The moment the hunter was close enough, she wrapped her arms around Chandler’s neck and stood on her tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the lips. There were a lot of people who hated to see couples’ PDA, but Jude couldn’t control herself around Chandler. It was why she tried her best to keep it as toned down as possible, even if it was a struggle. The second Jude pulled away from the kiss, the smile returned and she found her fingers lightly playing with his hair. “I’m loving your hair this length,” she said, clearly distracted from their current goal. But it wasn’t often that a girl could be jealous over the fact that her boyfriend’s hair was so much softer and silkier than hers.
Jude would’ve been almost happy staying just like this but there was something itching at the back of her brain. They had a goal. A reason to be here and it didn’t include clinging to Chandler while standing on a sidewalk, even if Jude thought that was a pretty good option. Then it dawned on Jude, after she thought about it for a little while. “Are you ready to become a proud pet owner?” the hunter asked, knowing that she thought Chandler was more than ready. She honestly couldn’t think of a better potential dog owner. The dog that Chandler picked would be the luckiest dog on the planet.
Of course Chandler was the sweetest person Jude knew, too, so his home would be the perfect environment. He’d probably be a big pushover with the dog and it’d be really entertaining to watch the dog puppy eye it’s way out of trouble since Chandler had the biggest puppy dog eyes ever. But on top of that, he was more than prepared. Jude knew Chandler had already done a ton to get ready for the dog and she could only imagine it’d be the most spoiled dog ever once Chandler got it home. She could almost see him running out and getting more things after the dog got home because he still wouldn’t feel like he was ready for the dog.
Now that Jude remembered they were actually here for Chandler to adopt a dog, she couldn’t wait to go in. But she also didn’t want to go bounding into the pound until Chandler was ready. Getting a dog was a big commitment and Jude knew if it was the other way around, she’d be really excited about adopting a dog, but she’d also be nervous about not being a good dog owner. Of course in her case, that was highly likely since Jude wasn’t the most reliable girl. But Chandler could do this. Jude had complete faith in him. That knowledge was starting to make her just a tad bit rambunctious. “You ready to go find your doggy match?”

[style=width:350px; height:120; overflow:auto; padding: 5px; text-align:justify; font-family: tahoma; font-size:10px; line-height: 97%; text-transform: lowercase; border-right: 1px dotted #dded82; overflow:auto; color: #000;]When Chandler met Jude, he was actually completely shocked the girl wasn’t taken already. So she had a few bumps when it came to her mental state. It wasn’t as if she this crazy killer running around. Well, the whole hunter thing might have put a perspective on it, but Chandler knew she hunted against those who were bad. Not against those that didn’t deserve it. It worried him about his own family a little bit (since some of them weren’t exactly saints) but this thought didn’t come to him often. Jude was ever so adorable. The new light to his day. He considered himself highly lucky to have such a wonderful person in his life. So important to his life. It made him happier. Just knowing he had someone there. He was important in someone’s life. The hybrid would never be able to explain to her what that meant to him. Chandler felt that sometimes it was his entire life goal. Be important to someone else as much as they were to his. Chandler was a goal setter, and he went after it even if sometimes the motivation wasn’t there.
Okay, the goal for the day was not to buy the entire place. Chandler might be able to squeeze some money from the famous Way fund and succeed in it, but that wasn’t the smartest move. His family wasn’t his biggest fan anyway. It would be very hard to convince them to lend him the money for it. Those were the thoughts he had to repeat over and over in his head as he was going to be walking through all the cages of all the sad eyes. It wasn’t just dogs there. Other little ones were peeking and hoping for a good enough home. He couldn’t think about the life they might have had previously. That would make things worse. Jude hopefully would keep him distracted enough. There was no reason to run a zoo at his small place. Even if it was pretty decent sized, he was sure it could be crowded very quickly. Just imagine what would happen if he ever hosted a party. The thought of it made him laugh. Chandler’s version of a party would be pretty damn lame.
He could tell that she was waiting to spring at him. It was like a small pup that was told to stay. Her bright smile was only matched with his as she collided with him. Chandler wrapped both arms around her waist and leaned down so she would be able to reach. The height difference between the two was incredible, but it wasn’t anything to really complain about. If anything, it was Chandler that had to lose a couple of inches to his height. This was also exactly why he didn’t want to put his hair in the ‘up’ style. He’d just be this tree walking around. More so than he already was. He was aware that his new nickname was ‘mooseboy’. Accurate, he guessed, if he were any animal. ”I’m going to have to start getting here super early then. Or tell you a later time.” He teased, taking the small moment to look at her. Her big dark eyes gazing up at him and her hair falling out of her face. Chandler was so afraid of losing her. This was too good to be true.
Chandler always kept these thoughts to himself. Not wanting her to think it was absurd. It probably was, but he couldn’t help it. Just as she couldn’t help arriving an hour early to everything. At her comment on his hair, he shook his head much like a dog would, feeling the ends of his hair smack his face. It was rather fluffy. Chandler didn’t have a clue how he got his hair to do that, but he supposed it came naturally. He wasn’t going to be able to grow it out much longer. This was getting ridiculous. ”Really? It’s getting pretty long… it tickles my ears.” He put a hand through his hair, noting the curls at the end of it. Once he realized how he sounded, he placed his hand down and looked forward. See, Chandler, this is why your family questioned you. You just fluffed out your hair and talking about the technicalities of it. Time to move on.
Chandler took a deep breath. He did not have a reason in the world to say why he was somehow nervous by this. He was going to be responsible for someone else. While most of the time, he was responsible, he also knew how lazy he could be. Going through school for mechanics was going to absolutely kill him if he wasn’t careful. All he remembered of his past education was crawling his way through it- only doing the work necessary to gain the proper grades, and nothing ever extra. It was probably going to be the same thing. Hopefully it would be more field work, but procrastination was a whole different term for Chandler. Him not procrastinating would probably be finishing it the day before instead of the day it was due. He wasn’t looking forward to having that again.
She caught him out of his gaze again when she asked. Taking her hand, he started walking across to the welcoming entrance. ”I’m nervous Jude. I have to find the right one. One that will like me.” He was sure his soft squishy heart would like any of them, but he had to make sure he found a dog that wasn’t afraid of him and his size. Yet, he probably couldn’t get a giant dog either. A Great Dane would be a friendly dog, but dear god, the maintenance on that type. Chandler knew- he did his little bit of research. Most dogs here were mutts anyway. Probably the better plan. When he walked in with Jude, the woman in front smiled and took him to the back, expecting his visit. There was rows and rows of animals. Chandler didn’t even know where to start. He tugged on Jude’s hand toward the medium sized, larger dogs in cages. Some were so beat up. Some looked like they were in good condition. Some were actual pups, which he was avoiding. Chandler thought they were cute, but pups were probably going to be adopted over the older dog. ”Uh oh. I’m uh… wanting all of them already.” He whispered almost in a panic. How was he possibly supposed to pick? He knew it was going to be hard but never really actually knew how hard it was. Until now.

Chandler was the closest embodiment to perfect that had ever existed. Yeah, he had his flaws – everyone did – but his positive qualities far outnumbered them, by quantity and strength. Honestly, she didn’t think it was even possible to hate the guy, not if you had a heart at least. Hating him was like hating everything good in this world, like sunshine and puppies and laughter. Long story short, it was impossible to hate any of that. Anyone who said they didn’t like the hybrid (and Jude highly doubted many people ever said that) clearly didn’t know him at all or they wouldn’t feel that way.
While it was all fine and well for Jude to think this of Chandler and she wouldn’t hesitate to tell himself any of it, if she knew he thought the same of her, she’d be entirely embarrassed. In fact, she’d probably tell him he was entirely wrong. He wasn’t the lucky one, she most definitely was. Chandler had to deal with the defective model, not the one that ran smoothly. Still though, it was sweet that he thought that and if anything, it only proved Jude’s point more. There wasn’t a single bad bone in Chandler’s body. You couldn’t hate him, no matter how hard you tried. Of course, she could be biased considering she was in his arms right now, but she hardly doubted that was the case.
The hunter found herself laughing at Chandler’s comment and shaking her head in disagreement. “Wouldn’t work,” she informed him with a teasing smile on her face. “I’d figure out your plan eventually and still show up too early. I can’t help myself. I just always get really excited when I know I get to see you.” It was entirely true. When Jude had plans to meet up with Chandler, all she could think about until that point was actually getting to go see him. You’d honestly think the girl went weeks without seeing him when it was usually only a couple of days tops.
Continuing the good mood, Jude again started laughing when Chandler shook his hair, mimicking a dog. He really was too adorable for words, even though Jude didn’t know too many guys who liked being called adorable. “Of course I like it,” Jude reassured Chandler, playing with the ends of his hair for just a little longer. “But you can’t have it tickling your ears too much,” she added with a bright smile. It was his hair after all. The hybrid could do whatever he wanted to it. Honestly, Jude didn’t care what length his hair was. He was perfect no matter what, even if he decided to completely shave it off. Though Jude would have to say that that would be a huge waste of gorgeous hair.
Despite the lightness and joking tone of their conversation up until this point, Jude knew it was time to get serious when Chandler took her hand and admitted that he actually was nervous about adopting a dog. It made her sad to think that he was worried over the dogs not liking him. Chandler was the biggest sweetheart the hunter knew, and she knew a lot of people who could fall into the sweetheart category. But Chandler always seemed to have a problem seeing that for himself, despite how many times Jude might’ve told him. He had no need to be worried, but Jude could still see why he would be. “You’ll do great,” Jude assured him, squeezing his hand. “Your doggy soulmate is in there waiting for you to adopt him.” She really did believe that too. She knew Chandler’s perfect dog was in there.
She followed Chandler towards the larger dogs, already figuring he’d skip over the tinier dogs. Jude had kind of guessed that Chandler would be nervous having something so small. They’d basically be in two different atmospheres. But Jude had to admit, it’d look pretty funny seeing Chandler walking a Chihuahua down the street because of the size difference. The dog would literally be the size of his foot. Now wasn’t the time to tell Chandler about that mental image though. He already seemed so stressed about finding the right dog that she didn’t think he’d really find any humor in it right now. She’d have to remember to tell him later.
Besides, she had more pressing matters to deal with, like the fact that Chandler was really worrying about wanting to take all the dogs home. To be honest, Jude felt the same way. She didn’t like seeing all of them so cramped in their cages. She wanted to take them all home and made sure they got fed decent meals and take them all on walks and basically give them the perfect dog life, but that was impossible. For one, she shared an apartment with Annette and it hardly had the room for all these dogs. And it wasn’t like Jude had the money to actually care for all of them. But the girl had promised she’d be strong for Chandler and help him in adopting only one dog. “It’s okay. Let’s take it one dog at a time,” Jude whispered back, squeezing Chandler’s hand again and leaning her head against his arm. “I’m sure we could always ask about you getting to spend time with any dog you wanted.” Jude knew most pounds had a little side room where you could get a chance to interact with any dog of your choosing to see if you meshed. “We’re in no hurry, so take your time, baby.” Jude meant it, too. She’d sit here all day with Chandler and then some if that meant he would find his dog.

[style=width:350px; height:120; overflow:auto; padding: 5px; text-align:justify; font-family: tahoma; font-size:10px; line-height: 97%; text-transform: lowercase; border-right: 1px dotted #dded82; overflow:auto; color: #000;]Chandler had always been curious how Jude had been before… everything happened. He couldn’t picture her with any other personality. Sticking another personality into that face wouldn’t work. It would be as if Chandler suddenly had no soul or something. That wouldn’t be a Chandler. No. Just as someone else wouldn’t have been the proper Jude. He was sure that she had an entire life ahead of her. Different in the way she might have thought and certainly naïve to what was out there in the world. Chandler still sometimes thought that she was pretty naïve to the horrors of the world, but she was a hunter, so clearly she knew as much as he did. Still, she was willing to be happy and nice to everyone. Chandler wasn’t all too different, he supposed, but he kept himself well guarded against those he was a little unsure about. Perhaps still be as polite as possible. Still move on. Chandler wasn’t sure if he would ever have the chance to become violent. He was sure the werewolf side of him was in there, but it being brought up was something he wanted to avoid.
If anyone was going to figure out that plan, it would have been Jude. The girl was quick and smart if sometimes forgetting where she was. ”I could… you know, try really hard and give up when I see you beat me to it.” Making it sound like he was giving up already. Chandler wouldn’t actually try it of course. Not only because her showing up early was honestly not the worse thing that could happen, but also because Jude was extremely stubborn. Once something was put into that woman’s mind, Chandler learned no matter what logic you could bring her, she’d turn it around. It was different. It hadn’t taken long for him to figure that out. Whenever she brought a point up, it was best not to argue with it. Like about him being the perfect man or whatnot. Chandler was flattered she thought that way about him- trust him, he was. It was just… it was a high standard. He never wanted to ruin that image for her, especially considering he was anywhere but perfect. Too much on his shoulders. Too many insecurities. Too many times he should have said something but didn’t. Stuff like that.
Chandler looked at the tips of his hair again. They were getting long enough to where he could actually see it, but that wasn’t a surprise. If he let if fall down in his face like he used to, it would be covering his face. He’d look like that one creature off of the Adam’s Family. No, lets not do that. It would be very hard for Jude to find him under there, he was sure. He smiled widely at her, ”I look funny with short hair though.” He told her. For a man who didn’t know what to do with himself, he was very particular about his hair. Something he tried not to bring up all the time. It was just yet another factor that made him stand out. Most others his size had it cropped short so that whatever sport he was playing was easier. Hair did make a difference- he remembered from P.E. Remember how much cooler he’d feel if his hair wasn’t sticking his forehead. Which was gross if he point out. He was sure everyone else found it too. Chandler spent so much looking back on bad experiences. It made him harder to believe that he was here enjoying himself. So much happier than he had been in years. Jude made him important and she made him happy.
Chandler held on tighter to Jude as if it was going to help him with his ‘finding the doggy soulmate’ as Jude put it. Man, she was adorable. He smiled down at her while he looked from spot to spot. There was so many. Chandler knew the building was large, but he hadn’t expected every place to be full. Every time he walked by another place, there was a dog barking at him. So many sad faces. He tried to take Jude’s advice. Take one dog at a time. All of them had some common attributes. Some cuter and perkier than others. He needed a nice middle. Chandler had thought a lot about this, as this was going to be sort of like his kid. That’s what pets were to people who didn’t have children. He was browsing for a child. Adopting someone and taking him or her home. He had thought about the fact he was picking with Jude, which made the moment even better, but he dare not bring it up. Chandler just wasn’t sure how soon was soon or how far was far.
He stopped at one place, leaning down to see the black lab circling around in the cage, but there was a small whimper that made him turn his head. Behind him, he saw two dogs in one large cage. Both of them looked almost exactly alike except one had a sweeter face than the other (though both had very sweet faces). The sweeter face was looking right at Chandler wagging her tail and whimpering. The other was on the floor, rattling the cage door with his paw and appearing to grab Jude’s attention. ”Jude, one of them wants your attention.” He grinned, turning his body around so he could look at them both. There was no way he could get one of these, obviously, but it was nice to look. He couldn’t separate them and he couldn’t have two running around in his place. There was no way.
