I’d never settle down, I’d just be wandering around, if I ever left this town. if I wasn’t by your side, I’d never be satisfied. nothin’ would feel just right, ‘cause I’m not easy to understand, but you know me like the back of your hand, you’re my girl and I’m your man, and we’re makin’ plans --------------- !
Kale knew exactly what feeling vulnerable was like. A lot of his life was spent being vulnerable and victimized, but he had gained courage and strength a long time ago. Kale looked up to his sister when he was younger, still sometimes did, and admired how strong-willed she was. Even though it was sometimes an incredibly annoying trait to have when dealing with her himself, he knew that it came in handy more often than not. Kentley was so strong and she didn’t even know it and he liked that about her. he had become more like her and quit letting people poke fun at him a long time ago and for that he was grateful to her. Without her there, he would probably still be that chubby kid that always got the butt end of the stick. He might not have worked as hard or as long as he did to get where he was now. Hell, he wouldn’t even be in Manuka if it weren’t for Kentley. While he did miss his home, he had made Manuka a new home. They had been here for a pretty good amount of time and right now he couldn’t see himself leaving. Atlanta was nothing compared to Manuka in opportunities. Kale would have never had the chance to work with some of today’s top models and it made him proud and glad that they were here. He remembered the days not so long ago when he yearned to go back to Georgia and to be with all of his old buddies. He thought that he had probably outgrown most of them by now, though he would still have a good time with them all. He wondered how they were all doing now or if they even missed him. Kale sometimes wondered if they ever thought about him. The days were few and far spread apart when he looked back on his life some three years ago to before he was exposed to the supernatural world.
He was still mostly ignorant to the whole supernatural thing and wanted to keep it that way. Kale didn’t want to be one of those people that were in the line of fire—literally speaking or otherwise. He liked to keep a low profile and he wanted to maintain his easygoing lifestyle, not worry about whether or not someone was coming to kill him. Supernaturals scared the living shit out of him. If he had known Kimmi was a werewolf he wouldn’t be here right now. His fear was irrational, but the only kinds of supernaturals he had seen other than Kent were all evil. He wasn’t aware of the good and true. When he thought of supernaturals now all he could think about was them coming after him or his family and then he felt shivery and chills spread across his skin. Kale definitely didn’t like to think about that world. It was not his world.
Kale blinked and smiled at Kimmi next to him. When she yawned, he looked back to the window. “Okay,” he said with a small smile. She was cute when she was sleepy and didn’t have all of those defensive walls up. Kimmi probably didn’t notice how much she had let down, but Kale could see it. He could see that she was trying to be there for him. It was nice having her around right now comforting him in his odd time of need. He liked to think that she was doing it because she actually cared about him. If she didn’t then he would have been fooled by the way things had turned out tonight. Kale hadn’t punched someone as hard has he had tonight in a really long time. If that hadn’t caught her attention, he didn’t know what would. But it had. And she was here with him, thank the holy and gracious Lord. Without Kimmi tonight, he probably would have gone back home and finished off what he had started with Lucas, maybe not truly hurting the kid, but doing enough damage to make him never cross the line again.
Kale’s grin widened into a large smile and he pulled up his knee onto the bed so he could face Kimmi. This place was big enough for four or five dogs, let alone one. He could imagine her having a really large dog that would protect her and whoever else stayed here, and another, smaller dog that could sleep with her at night and keep her company so she wasn’t so lonely. “I think you’d be a good dog-owner,” he said. “You’d probly take it everywhere with you and dress it up like all those rich people do in them magazines.” Kale shook his head and laughed. He could see her carrying around a little purse with a puppy inside of it. It was the most adorable site he could ever imagine. But Kale didn’t much care for small dogs. He’d need a medium- to large-sized dog to suffice his needs. He had been planning on getting one from the pound once he was out of the house, which wouldn’t be too long now hopefully. Kale wanted to be out of his house and in an apartment within the next few months. He felt like it was finally time to grow up and now that he had a biweekly paying job at the gym and was saving up money, he would hopefully have a nice apartment then. If he could find a roommate, he’d probably get out even sooner, but he didn’t even know where to look for one. Kale wasn’t too worried about that right now though.
The only thing on his mind other than dogs was Kimmi.

YOU DON'T WANT ME LIKE I WANT YOU you don't need me like i need you The werewolf didn’t even think of the favor she had done for Kale right then. She didn’t know the significance of calming him down before he acted upon his anger. While her times of anger had been increasing since she changed into a werewolf, she really didn’t have a lot of angry moments. People thought when she was being bitchy she was angry or mad about something, but not really. It was hard to tell the difference, but usually when she was in your face, she was livid. Kimberly didn’t reach that stage very often. She did reach that stage with Talia. She really hated that bitch. Kimmi could even say just how much. She was everything that she could have possibly hated in another person. It was why she tried to avoid her as much as possible. There was no reason to fight with her besides the fact they never got along, but still. Talia someday was just going to do something so over the top that Kimberly was going to lose it like she had in the after part of the winter ball. Left her scratched up for a while, but Kimmi hadn’t been able to even calm down about the matter.
Sometimes she wished that the lore about werewolves being nicer would be the true ones. She hadn’t thought much of those kinds of stories when she was human, but now she realized how nice that would have been. Like the ones who had control when they changed and such. All of them made some sort of reference toward the full moon, but even further, she wished it wouldn’t be involved with those in real life. The full moon used to be something beautiful that she got to look at outside of her window. Just stare at it and smile. Now she did nothing but dread it, and she was never going to be able to see one again. Not unless she changed, and when that happened, she didn’t have any memory. The most she had ever gotten had been nightmares. All the other times, someone had to actually tell her what was going on if there was anyone left. There had been a couple of people to tell her something had happened, but those moments were rare. Besides, she’d rather have someone not tell her than someone be there and witness the horror that was Kimberly Wilson during that time. When was that date even coming up? She would have to make sure she was far away from everyone when that did happen. It was in the middle of the night, so not a light of the moon in the sky. Though it was dark, she preferred it that way.
If only she knew how she looked at that moment. If you asked Kimmi, she would have mentioned that the worse times she could have looked was this late or in the morning. That’s usually why she appreciated if her, uh, visitors left before she woke up. With the type of guys she went after, they usually were. When they didn’t, she always tried to hide and keep still until they indeed could move around and get up to leave. Sometimes they had the nerve to try to wake her up to tell them they were leaving. Kimberly always snapped. She really hadn’t cared just as long as they were eventually gone. Which was why the turn of events were so interesting to her. The guy in front of her she really didn’t want to leave. He drove her crazy, but she wanted him around. She just felt better with him around. Previously she hadn’t really had a particular emotion except for being bored and lonely, but now she was sitting with him, she felt content. Softer. More like a person than a Barbie doll. Even farther, she felt like she could breathe easier. Talk easier. Everything seemed easier. Even if it wasn’t.
Kimberly giggled at what he described her doing. Yes, that was exactly what she would do. She hated to be the every other person who thought dogs dressing up in clothes was adorable, but she really thought it was. Just their faces all excited while wearing a hat. She would spoil that thing rotten to the core. The dog wouldn’t know anything besides pampering, honestly. ”Oh probably. I’d probably have to get another one.” It could be larger and they could be best of friends! She didn’t tell him this small plan she had in her mind. As much as she was letting up, there was still a few things in her head she wouldn’t even mention to her parents. Kale didn’t need to hear everything in her head, she supposed. If he did, he was sure that he would get tired of it. Most people would. It was why she hushed up. Most of her job was kind of just keeping quiet and shutting up so that the person was able to finish the photos properly. That was one of the reasons she liked having Kale as a photographer. He had to be one of the most pleasant.
She laid down, feeling like her body was no longer allowing her to stay sitting up, still looking at Kale, curving her body so that she was able to fit. Peering, she reached a hand up and touched Kale’s arm. A simple gesture, but it was more to examine his muscles. He really did work hard for these things. She had heard from some of her ‘friends’ how much work it took to keep that sort of thing up, and Kale was built than most models she knew. ”Do you know when you’re shooting one of mine again?” She asked absentmindedly, not really aware that she was speaking until she let out a breath of air afterwards. The girl really was having a hard time paying attention. Her blinks were becoming a little longer, but she did keep opening them up. Time with Kale was precious. She didn’t want to waste it. He sometimes wondered what it was like to grow up in the North. Most of the people he met here had never heard someone of his age call them ma’am or sir and occasionally it freaked them out like he was trying to make them feel old or something. It was common for people to misunderstand him because he was doing it out of both habit and respect. His superiors were usually older than him, though he did on occasion call a little youngster ma’am or sir because they were cute. Even the little kids found it odd, but Kale couldn’t help it. He got popped in the mouth (not very hard) as a kid when he was disrespectful or didn’t use his manners, so he quickly learned to be polite. But here in Manuka he never heard people say that. They hardly ever held doors open for others and guys never opened the door for people. And when Kale did it he was lucky to get a thank you out of them. It was odd to him how different people could be when they all knew what manners were. People in the South just used them. It was one of the many things he liked about being down there than up here. The only good things up here were the opportunities he had come by and the people he had met. And while they didn’t always know what he said or couldn’t understand him, they were nice enough people—the ones he hung around at least. And he had learned a lot since being here, most of it good.
Kimmi was one of those girls who was a straight up firecracker. In fact, thinking about it now, he’d say the song that best represented her was Firecracker by Josh Turner. He liked that she was strong and didn’t let people walk all over her. Kale sometimes did that, but it had never bothered him. He just didn’t mind it when people told him what to do or gave him orders. His dad had encouraged him to go into the military when he was younger, but Kale never saw the military as something he would want to do. His passion was photography, not serving the country. And even though he knew defending your country was a noble and admirable thing to do, and he would do it well, he never felt that that was his calling in life. He wasn’t sure that it was photography alone and he was looking to expand his skills, but for now that was what he was doing and he loved it.
Talking to her seemed easier now somehow. He thought that she had somehow opened up to her in even the smallest of ways, but he’d take it. He liked that she wasn’t putting on the tough girl act. She looked too tired to fake being a big badass and it made Kale grin. “You can never have just one dog. They’re pack animals ya know?” he turned around and saw her lay on the bed. He looked down at her as her eyes started staying closed for longer periods of time before she forced them open again. He kept quiet as she reached out and touched his arm. He resisted the urge to flex his muscles like he usually would have if it were any other girl. Kale wondered what she was thinking.
She finally spoke and he shrugged slightly. “I dunno. I hadn’t got a call since our last shoot.” Kale thought that he might receive a call from someone asking if he’d want to do another shoot for a different ad. But the only shoot he had done since the one with Kimmi was with Talia a couple of days ago. He had asked his sister if she would model for him but she was camera shy most of the time unless she was with friends. So that was a bust. The only other model in town he knew was Kimmi, but he hadn’t thought to ask her since she always seemed busy anyways. But he wouldn’t get another chance, so he figured he’d just ask now. “We could do another shoot soon though if you want?” Kale smiled and looked down at her. He found himself having the urge to sleep, too. Since she was already half asleep and he couldn’t remember where she said her spare room was, he scooted onto the bed and lay down next to her, facing her, and propped his head up with his hand. Kale tucked a piece of lose hair behind her ear and smiled. “Just as long as it’s just you and me,” he added. He wouldn’t be able to stand shooting with her if there was going to be another douchebag on the set like last time. Kale wouldn’t mind if her asshole manager wasn’t there either, but that’d be up to her. He just hoped that he’d one day be able to shoot with her without a hundred people around so it was more personal to him.

YOU DON'T WANT ME LIKE I WANT YOU you don't need me like i need you Whenever she talked about dogs with other people, it always seemed in the end to make her very self-aware of herself. She had those habits. She might as well been a shapeshifter dog on drugs or something. Everything else about her was the same as if she were a very bad tempered animal running around. There were a few things she had expected that she didn’t get. Like Kimberly had no increasing crave in meat. Some of her senses weren’t the same. It hadn’t been a particular large increase but there were some smells that she recognized more than others. If Kimberly had been nice enough, she would have gone out to find someone who had been a werewolf their whole life. However, it seemed that not very many people wanted to talk to her. Which was fine. Everything she said and snapped was by design. Except maybe what she was doing with Kale, but she didn’t even know what she was doing. Or planning. The pair couldn’t get as far as she might dream. Messing up his life wasn’t on her to-do list.
Pack animals seemed more accurate if Kimberly liked the majority of people. Or if people had liked her, but she supposed that her happiest of moments were ones with someone near her. Some of her worse were also with people around her, so that didn’t really fit the pattern either. She always thought about this. Always something at the back of her mind that she had to be aware of. Some of the hardest times was when she was hooking up. Holding back to make sure she didn’t break the human in half was a very important feature. For a werewolf, she was sure she was rather weak, but for the average human, she wondered if she was even stronger than Kale. Out of practice, she had gotten good at that, but sometimes it was harder than not. Even as she was talking as something as innocent as this, she couldn’t help but also remember her original idea for not getting a dog- no bad messes in the morning. ”And they’ll need the company.” She also away at work a lot. Not lately, it seemed, after her last photoshoot she got into so much trouble, but she also knew there was a good chance of more coming her way.
His words actually worried her a little bit. Oh, she didn’t mess up any reputation he had with the company or program or contract he was with, did it? He had taken brilliant shots. Ones that were covered in magazines and the top of stores everywhere. Of course, not very many people noticed how great of a shot that was. Even before this, Kimberly hadn’t really looked much of it except how she looked, but this had been a little different. He certainly made a lasting impression on her. Kimmi thought about that, and then referred to what she asked him now. If he was going to do another one with her. Oh, it would be so much different (especially if he made such a wonderful exit as he had done last time) but on that point, it was pretty dangerous. All of this was dangerous. It was so out of Kimberly’s regular routine that she was constantly checking to see what could have happened to her and if she was going to be able to handle it properly. The thought was no she probably wouldn’t be able to. Yet, she wasn’t over there making any changes, now was she? She was just encouraging it.
”Odd… I mean, you got good reviews last time.” At least from her boss’ perspective. Her boss had been pretty picky and not sure how he felt about the entire way, but in the end, he admitted the good work. At the time, Kimberly had been so confused and annoyed, she hadn’t said anything about it, but looking back she probably should have said something positive. The thought of another shoot with him made her smile and excited though her excitement was dimmed slightly from her sleepiness. She promised she was going to be less bitchy. The last time, he had said everything perfect and she didn’t know how to respond. Now at least she would have been expecting it. The next words made her catch her breath. Just the two of them? Kimberly would try and fight hard for that, but the problem was she really hadn’t had very much say in what she did. Only what she couldn’t do. For example, she couldn’t do any completely nude without any coverings (though honestly with her last photoshoots that one was probably silly at this point). What she could do was anything not specified. It was kind of open, and it would be a battle, but a battle worth it.
Now looking back, she also saw the slightly embarrassing shoots he took of her with that one guy coming around. How frustrated and how much she wanted to tease at that point. How easy that had actually been to do with him taking the picture. ”I… I can certainly try for that. We could easily do one without it being so professional.” Which is something Kimberly probably never did. After being a model her whole life, as far as she was concerned, she should be paid for every picture taken of her. Whether the pay was in fame or in cash, she would take it. It never occurred to her to do regular photos. She had a couple with Kinsley and with family, but not too very often. The camera often gave her almost an un-knowing of what to do with it. Yet, the casual part it could put them in might be better off. This was Kale after all.

There was something about dog that he loved more than cats. It was probably the fact that they were so much friendlier than cats and that they liked to play instead of just sit around licking themselves. Kale needed an active dog if he was to ever get one because he would need a buddy to go on runs with or a pet that would actually play fetch. His friend had a dog once that would run after the ball but never bring it back to them so they’d have like 10 balls out there at all times and most of the time he didn’t do anything but run after the ball and then lay down. Kale wanted a dog that would run after it and bring it back excitedly and want to do it fifty more times. He was actually thinking of getting one when he had the money saved up. He had always thought getting dogs from the shelter was better than getting a dog that was three times the price just because if was a purebred or a mix of two breeds, which was really just a mutt in his eyes. Kale just wanted a mutt that would love him as much as he’d love it.
Kale would bet that Kimmi would love having a dog or two to have around in this giant house. It seemed so big for just one person and he couldn’t imagine it being so empty all the time. He wondered how often she had people over or if she usually stayed with her mom or something. He couldn’t imagine having a place like this with no one to share it with. Though there was the idea that she liked all this open space and liked having an empty house. But by the way she talked about her mom’s house he doubted that was true. But it wasn’t his place to ask. He figured he’d pried into her life enough for one night anyway. She hadn’t opened up to him this much before and he didn’t want to go too far and make her close up again. So he kept it to himself.
Kale shrugged when she wondered about why he wasn’t getting any calls for more shoots. He suppsed it would be a while anyways so he wasn’t getting beat up about it just yet. If it lasted a few more weeks then he would, but for now he was okay about it. Though it did make him alittle nervous that it wasn’t going to happen again. But if she agreed to do another shoot with him, he’d get another opportunity to shoot with her, which would be good for his portfolio. She hoped she’d say yes because that’d be not onlly good for him but it’d also give him more time to spend with her, just the two of them.
She seemed to be getting very sleepy and he found his own eyes sratrin to get heavier. But he didn’t want to fall asleep just yet. He wanted more time to talk to her. He opened his eyes wider and blinked a few times trying to waken them up a little more when he replied. “We should do it soon then. Whever yer free.” His words were slower than they usually were, signalling that he was almost asleep even though he was doing his best to stay awake. The next thing he knew he was in a dreamland.
When he woke up his arm was around Kimmi’s shoulders, his hand resting on her hand and his other arm rested on his chest. He looked down at Kimmi who was sleeping still and didn’t move for fear of waking her up. The sun was up and a few birds chirpped outside her balcony. Kale closed his eyes and stayed still, just enjoying the fact that this was even happening. He figured that when she woke up she’d jolt away and it’d immediately be over, but Kale was quite contet with the situation as it was. He smiled a little to himself before slightly tightening his grip around her, bringing her even closer to him. He felt his heart beat quicken and butterflies in his stomach.

YOU DON'T WANT ME LIKE I WANT YOU you don't need me like i need you It was strange to think that large supernatural families stayed in places like this. Wait- no, maybe that wasn’t too strange. There had to be about ten of them in a place like this, so it would probably be a little different. There would be a reason to have that many amount of rooms. That big of a pool outside. That large of a place to park. She was sure that if she really wanted to fill this place up, she would. Have a massive party for all the other models and celebrities she knew (some of the models moving onto acting, something she tried and failed at). Hell, she could even open the front gate and just stand there for fifteen minutes and the paparazzi would come swooping in. None of it ever made sense to her. Why were so many other people interested in her life and life style? All she would do is judge her from the opposite side of the page. What really didn’t make sense was how intense the paparazzi did things. The first to get it out was the first to win the race.
What time was it again? Wasn’t the sun coming up soon? Those were the types of thoughts running through her head when she was beginning to become sleepy. Part of her really didn’t want to drift off into this slumber sleep thing. She was going to wake up and he was going to be in the other room. As much as she wanted to stay up with Kale, she wasn’t sure that her eyes were able to stay open that much longer. She wasn’t sure how much longer he was able to stay up either. This had been a long night for both of them. Although he seemed to have more control over his temper and such, he was still radiating heat like he was the sun. That was one of the little things that Kimberly really did like about Kale. Physically at least. How could this man in front of her be so damn perfect? The way he smiled, was unbelievably kind to everyone around him, and had the looks that would kill if he wanted to. HE would be able to manipulate the world, but he didn’t, because it wasn’t in his interests. How could he stay that humble? She wanted to know his secret. What was he thinking?
Another reason she seemed to really like him- even as friends- was he seemed to… almost respect her. She may not call it that since there was really no such thing as respecting someone like her. But more so than everyone else. Treating her like she wasn’t an object and angry when others would treat her as such. Like with Tyler. She didn’t have a clue in the world what he managed to see in her that made him think that way, but whatever it was, she was grateful. She didn’t think that he would stick around very much longer if he didn’t. He managed to break her wall. It came tumbling down the night of the ball- when she was dazzling in her pretty dress, all dolled up. Now she was rather ordinary without all of the added on quality to her face. He still seemed to stick around and not care. Of course he did. He mentioned they should do the photo shoot again and she grinned. Official or not, she really did want this again. ”I promise I’ll be much nicer.” She promised. That was not a phrase she could say very often. She hardly ever promised to be a nicer person.
She didn’t remember anything else. Kimmi wasn’t even sure when she actually drifted off to sleep. It wasn’t long after she said that comment, she was sure. When she first woke up, she always realized her surroundings before she opened her eyes. She was surprised to find herself wrapped around someone. Not all of her one nighters meant they would cuddle and such. That seemed too intimidate for the pair of them the majority of the time. So this confused her. Not to say it never happened, but she didn’t even remember brining home anyone the previous night. Oh- wait, there was Tyler. Tyler wasn’t a cuddler. He was a roll so far he landed on the floor while she had the bed to herself. Not to mention he was gone before she usually woke up. Feeling the heat under her fingertips, however, she realized where she was and whom she was with. Her head on his shoulder, one hand with his and the other on his chest. She kept her eyes closed for a minute. She had to be imagining things. Nope. After opening, she saw him lying next to her. At first, she debated on whether to speak or not, but saw he was moving a little bit. ”Kale?” She mused with a very sleepy tone.

Being next to her like this, with her without her guard up, was something new to him. he enjoyed it though because he felt as if he was actually getting to know her for who she really was. He rather liked the way she was right now, sweet like cherry pie and completely adorable without makeup covering her gorgeous freckles. Even though he knew Kimmi didn’t like her freckles, which was weird to think about because he adored them so much, he knew that she would probably eventually get used to them. Maybe if he told her how pretty she was without makeup she’d eventually believe him. But he knew it’d take a lot of persuading to get her to trust him on it. She’d been thinking now for so long that her freckles were odd that it was almost set in stone in her mind. But he had a stubborn mind and he’d get through to her somehow.
A smiled spread across his lips when she told him she’d be much nicer to him now. He had wanted that since the first day he met her and now that it got it he felt like he was on cloud nine. He looked down at her from where he sat with his grin wide and his eyes bright. “Alright, good.” He bit the inside of his cheek and tried to hide his smile a little though it didn’t work too well.
The two of them were asleep after a while and when Kale woke up with her in his arms he felt his heart leap just about out of his chest. He didn’t know what to do, so he pretended to sleep. Then Kimmi stirred awake and he stayed as still as possible, though not still enough because she said his name. He opened his eyes slightly and looked down at her trying not to let her see that he was stupid with happiness. “Mhmmm,” he replied finally, keeping the joy from his tone. He was sure she was just wondering if he was awake, so he didn’t ask what it was she wanted. He moved the hand that wasn’t with hers to Kimmi’s back and brought her closer to him. She fit like a perfect puzzle piece into him.
“Want some breakfast?” he asked softly. She agreed to have some food and he reluctantly got out of the bed rubbing his head to smooth down his hair. It only made it worse though he didn’t notice. The two went downstairs and Kimmi showed him where everything was. He insisted on her not doing a thing. Making breakfast was one of his favorite things to do. He had a whole routine of it though he usually only made it for one. He got out toast, eggs, cheese, bacon, and some cinnamon for French toast, eggs with cheese on them, and a side of bacon. They sat together talking about random things until finally breakfast was over. They cleaned the kitchen together (she insisted even though he’d do it on his own with no complaints) and then Kale realized he had to go to work later. He was sad that he had to leave her. “See ya ‘round, 'darlin',” he said and kissed her on the cheek when he left, lingering there for an extra couple of seconds.
