It was a rare occurrence in Decklyn's life, especially of late it seemed. Between taking extra shifts at the hospital due to them being short-staffed on paramedics right at the moment and continuing to keep the men who had killed his parents happy even while he looked for a way to take them down it left little free time. Today, however, he had no plans to do anything but enjoying some well needed R&R. Until the phone had rung at seven in the morning, waking him up with a grumble as he reached for it blindly on his night stand. "...ello..." He muttered into the mouth piece, voice still rough and slightly fuzzy with sleep. "Dec! Dec it's Grace! I'm so sorry to wake you up so early on your day off but Jacob's babysitter just called to say she was sick and couldn't watch him today which normally isn't a problem I'd just take him with me to the bakery but I have a meeting with the bank today about getting another loan out to get some more equipment..." Her slightly frantic rambling trailed off and Decklyn, still half comprehending it all still finished the rest of it with a soft chuckle. "When do you need me to come pick him up?"
His words brought a relieved whoosh of air from his sister. "Oh Decklyn you have no idea how much I appreciate it this! I owe you one for this! Can you be here by 8?" Glancing at the clock, he returned lightly, "Eight yep, I'll be there," Seeing as she didn't live all that far from him he'd have time to get a shower still at least. "Thank you so much, Decklyn! You're a lifesaver!" Smiling at her unintended pun, he ran a hand through his hair after they hung up, falling back against the pillow for a few more moments. Maybe next time... It didn't take him long to wake up thanks to the numerous times he'd been woken up in the middle of the night with an emergency call to go to. You couldn't afford to be bleary minded for long when people's lives were at stake. Shuffling into the bathroom adjoining his bedroom he started the shower and soon enough the warm water had him fully awake. Drying off quickly, he returned to his bedroom and got dressed quickly, not really even minding anymore that he wasn't still asleep in bed.
His three year old nephew, Jacob, was one of the bright spots in his life. Spending time with him was something Decklyn absolutely loved doing and didn't get to do half as much as he wished he could. So despite the early wake up, the call from his sister had actually been more than welcome. Ready to go, he got into his car and made the short drive to Grace's apartment. It actually sat right above the bakery she owned which made things much easier for her when it came to running the place. Pulling into the parking spot beside her vehicle he got out and headed towards the back door of the place, letting himself in with the key she'd given him for emergencies. Once he was at her actual apartment door he knocked his knuckles against it a couple of times and heard her footsteps hurrying across the floor before it was opened up a moment later. "Look who's here, Jacob!" Grace called out with a smile as she let her brother into her home. The small little thudding of feet sounded then as the little boy in question came tearing into the living room. "UNCLE DECKLYN!" He shrieked excitedly, though it sounded more like 'Unca Decwyn' and seconds later he was practically launching himself into the man's arms.
"Whoa what's your mom been feeding you? Straight up sugar?" Decklyn joked with a laugh, easily catching the blonde haired little boy and hoisting him up in his arms. "So you up to hanging out with your uncle today, buddy?" He questioned his nephew who answered with an excited nod and happy little grin. "Thank you again so much, Dec. I just really appreciate this and I'm sorry to ruin your day off," An apologetic look was on his sister's face as she spoke but he shook his head. "Getting to spend time with my favorite nephew is definitely not ruining my day in the least, sis," A smile pulled at his lips as he pretended to bite Jacob's fingers that were currently reaching over to poke at his nose. "So what do you want to go do, kiddo?" He asked Jacob with raised eyebrows and was rewarded with a quick answer of "Play on the playground!" Knowing exactly what playground he was referring to since they went there every time Jacob was with him, Decklyn grinned. "The playground it is then," Wriggling out of Decklyn's arms long enough to put on his shoes and a light jacket, the two of them were soon heading out the door. "We'll be back in time for supper," He told his sister with a wink. Switching out the booster seat from Grace's car into the backseat of his, Decklyn got the little boy strapped in quickly enough and it wasn't long before they were pulling into the parking lot of the park in front of the playground.
Getting Jacob out of the car, he was being pulled towards the swings immediately. "Push me push me!" Lifting him onto one of them, Decklyn did as he was told and soon happy giggles were coming from the little boy. Man, to be a kid again. When all it took was a simple swing set to make you happy. That would be the life.

I am in desperate need of someone to interact with more like Katirena is, but still. Mind if I join you and Decklyn? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The morning was a bright one. Katirena could already tell, as she stretched in her bed. She yawned a few times, cracked her neck and spine in places most would cringe, and shook her head. She rubbed her eyes, rolled her neck once more, and glanced around the bedroom to her flat. Light was just peeking through the stained, tattered blinds, illuminating her sleeping arrangements. The flat Katirena lived in, in general, wasn't the nicest set up in the world, but it was a lot better than other places she could be living. Her rent was a reasonable amount each month, just enough for her to cover it with the little odd jobs she does her and there. The walls in each room were an off white color, with scares and battle stories one could only wonder about. The living room held a single couch that doubled as a pull out mattress and the kitchen was small enough to accommodate one tenant quite nicely. The flat had a very homey feel, bot too big but not too small. Today is going to be a long one, she thought, stepping out of bed, her oversized t-shirt and boxers ruffling into place as she walked to the bathroom. Kat turned the shower on, turning the knob to hot, and waited for the water temperature to change to something she was comfortable with. As she waited, she arranged her towel so that it would be ready to be used as soon as she was done. Lazily, and sluggishly, she undressed and stepped into the gushing water, flinching slightly at the heat of the water, but slowly her body adjusted to the temperature, goose-bumps rising on her skin as she shivered trying to wake herself up beneath the coursing water. Going through the usual motions, Kat shampooed her hair first, conditioned it, and then washed her face and the rest of her body, finally rinsing out the conditioner. She stepped outside the shower, dried herself off, and proceeded to walk back to her bedroom, naked. Don't ask why Katirena does what she does; just know that she does it. She gains some sort of, inner confidence and beauty, out of it, and considering the fact that changing into a giant, hairy beast isn't beautiful, Kat must find other ways to compensate. Walking around her flat in the nude is one of them. Kat, dug through her duffle bag full of clothes, fund the essentials( sports bra and underwear), threw them on, and found her favorite pair of capri leggings and old high school t-shirt. All the these, the usual running gear of choice. As she walked past the bathroom again, she stood in the doorway while putting her hair into a ponytail. When she was satisfied, she closed both her bedroom and bathroom door, walking towards the kitchen. On the counter her favorite, thin, grey jacket lay just before she scooped it up along with her ipod and headphones. Katirena glanced around the under furnished living room, as if checking to make sure things were in place, and left her flat, locking the door and triple checking...twice. Kat’s usual run consisted of a slow, paced jog for 5 miles, then shifted into a faster passed run for about another 5 miles, and usually ended with a sprint of 2 miles, totaling a morning run of 12 miles. Depending on her mood, Kat would rather run 14-16 miles just to blow off the pent up energy she begins to feel towards the end of the month…you know with the full moon and all. Today she would run through the upper state’s bustling cities and alley ways, places Katirena enjoys passing while she runs. Seeing all the humans going on with their day to day lives gave her something to think about, to ponder over. At the peak of her run, she would find herself passing the meadows of manuka, a serene place that cleared her mind of any stressful thoughts or irritations. On her route back home, Kat would jog past wailman’s park, a place she hasn’t spent much time in since being in the newest place to add to her list of travels. And so her run begins, once she is done cataloging all the land markers and places she plans on passing this fine morning. As she ran, Katirenas playlist consisted of a range of genre’s and artists. First, Drake played for a few songs, making Kat feel a sense of belonging since he was a pretty new artist. Kings of Leon, The Fray and Imagine Dragons switched back and forth, all the bands lyrics some of Kat’s favorites. Moving along down the list, Framing Hanley, A Day to Remember, and Flyleaf brought an overwhelming feeling of understanding that she always felt when bands with such, “Hey, I understand exactly what you’re going through,” lyrics usually played. Yuna, Ed Sheeran, and M83 decided to join the party, giving Kat a beat, or rhythm, to run to, helping clear her mind even further. As her array of music played, every once in a while Katirena would sin out loud, no matter where she was on her jog, or who was around her. One thing that never crossed her mind twice was what people thought of her; their opinions were irrelevant. Lost in thought, Kat didn’t realized she’d already passed manuka’s park and was now just coming over a hill and into park . “When all we wanted was love….all we got was cut and burned…” As she sang aloud once more to her favorite band of the moment, Flyleaf, Kat saw a man and his boy on the swing sets. Now, her run was just a light jog, and she had just enough time to watch the two humans interact with one another, and a small twang hit her square in the stomach “Ahh!" she jerked, coming to an abrupt stop, and bending over while clenching her side. She cursed under her breath, and grumbled something about cramps. Though she said it was cramps, Katirena knew it most likely wasn’t. Since she’d been bitten about three years ago, whenever Kat see’s parts of her old life being played out through present humans, her body negatively reacted. It was more like her mind did, telling her that human isn’t a life she can have anymore, but either way it still stings. Not being able to take something back that was stolen from you so abruptly, so young, it hurts even three years later. Looking around, Katirena didn’t see a bench near enough to sit down on, so she simply crouched over, and waited for the pain to ease away.

Granted sleeping in a bit longer would have been fabulous but when it came to his sister sleep was much less important than helping her out. Besides, how could you say no to spending time with this kid? A smile pulled on his lips as she watched the three year old happily swinging away, giggling at every push that sent him a little higher. There was no question in Decklyn's mind that he wanted kids someday. Three, four or more he really didn't have any set number. It was definitely something he hoped was in his future though. He was good with kids too, or at least he'd been told that numerous times by both his sister as well as patients and co-workers. It had come to the point that if there was any sort of screaming or crying child on any of the calls they were on, patient or not, his partner just automatically let him handle them. Ninety nine percent of the time he was able to calm them down or at the very least quiet them a bit so they could be taken care of easier.
Right now kids were more of a distant dream it seemed than anything, especially seeing as the last steady relationship he'd been in had been back in high school. Anything since then just hadn't really ever worked out, mostly his fault he figured. Between working constantly and living something of a double life what with the hit man situation he had been forced back into a year ago it didn't leave much time for romance. And honestly he didn't really mind it too much either. There were worse things than being single after all. He did have to admit though that the more he got to know Emeri Donahue the less content he was with it. For now though he was ok playing daddy for the day to Jacob and enjoying some one on one time with the little guy.
He did feel bad that this sort of thing was more of a rarity than normal occurance though. Yeah he saw his sister and nephew on a regular basis but actually getting to spend a decent amount of time at once with either of them didn't happen often. Which bothered Decklyn seeing as Jacob really didn't have any other steady male figure in his life. Grace had never told him who the father was and he hadn't tried to get her to tell him either. She'd made it clear he wouldn't be in the picture though and he got he impression that was for the best. It ticked him off a bit that the guy could simply just let his son grow up without a father but all things considered that also might have been for the best if he wasn't going to be a good influence. He was more than happy to fill the role as best he could anyway and that was all he could do really.
Earning a new round of giggles with one last big push of the swing, Decklyn grabbed a hold of one side of the chains holding it and slowed it to a stop as Jacob decided he was done with that particular activity. Jumping off in the clumsy way only a three year old could he headed for a small little climbing area and Decklyn followed slowly with a smile at the boy's antics. It happened to be closer to the jogging path that looped around beside the playground and his attention was caught suddenly at a pained sort of cry from behind him. A young woman in running clothes had stopped on the path, half bent over and obviously not feeling so hot. Giving a quick glance to make sure Jacob was safely playing nearby, he crossed the ten feet or so over to her, asking with calm concern, "You alright?" She didn't appear to be in any immediate danger but there were plenty of times when things looked minor on th surface but were anything but.

"So cry if you need to, but I can't stay to
watch you. That's the wrong thing to do."Kat was kind of startled at first, unsure what was really happening to her, so when she felt a presence next to her, she looked up and gave a weak smile. ”Oh, yeah I’m fine. I think it’s just a cramp.” she said through clenched teeth and a fake smile. God damn, she thought to herself, wincing again in pain. At first Kat hadn’t realized who had spoken to her, but when her eyes focused and she was able to calculate his face, she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. Whether it was visible or not, her cheeks were burning beneath her skin. Or her cheeks were flushed because the man before her had a devilishly charming face, either way it wouldn’t be hard to see her colored cheeks. Katirena was never one to become flustered or flushed, so this all in itself wasn’t something she was use to, but to add on to it, the man who was asking about her wellbeing, was the man she’d been gawking at just minutes before. In short, this was the man Kat had watched with his boy, the man she’d been envying over for a few short moments. Since Kat was turned, she’s never quite been the same. Her human life was like a distant memory and when pieces of it popped up randomly in her daily life, she kind of had a mental break down. Since she didn’t accept being a werewolf, Kat tried all she could to reject it, and apparently and adverse side effect was the occasional body pains and aches, triggered by the life she wished she could have back. In this case, seeing the little boy, laughing, playing, and just enjoying life, it brought back the age old memory of when she was pregnant. Yes getting knocked up at eighteen isn’t the best she’s done, but Kat honestly loved the kid, and he loved her too…up until the night she was turned, and she lost the baby. Her body had terminated the pregnancy as a response to the werewolf DNA coursing through her veins and mutating her genetic make-up. I mean, if Kat wanted she could have kids now, but there are certain risk that come along with it. Anyways, moving on from the tragic story Katirena has kept to herself for years, the little boy made her wonder about the life she could have had. The son, the child, she could have had. Ironically, the man beside Kat resembled her ex in a very unsettling way. He had the same blond hair, and light blue eyes, the same tall build, and the same gentle disposition. Within the few moments Katirena had looked at him, Kat got a feeling for what kind of person he was. Judging by the way he had interacted with the boy, he was either a father or an uncle, with a gentle heart…a kind heart. And the fact that he came up to a complete stranger, concerned with her irrelevant pain, also backed up her theory. When she looked into his eyes, she got the feeling he was genuinely wondering if she was alright, and this raised some suspicions. Naturally, Kat always had her doubts about people, kind hearted or not. She immediately wondered if he had some kind of hidden meaning behind approaching her, and she stared at him, curiously. What was his game plan? How could someone be so friendly to a stranger? Why did he care? All of these thoughts flashed through Kat’s mind in seconds, as did the memories of her lost son, and while these thoughts coursed through her brain, Kat tried to figure this man out. Redirecting her thoughts on to the present, in a small whimper of pain, she tried to stand up right and reassure her new companion that she was really “fine.” No luck, her body refused. “Ugghh, god damn.” she said under her breath, clutching her right side. Without thinking, or knowing what she was doing, Kat instinctively threw her arm out to grab something for support, and it just so happens that Decklyn(not that she knows his name yet x3) was standing close enough for her to grasp his forearm. Normally, these flash backs would subside in a few seconds, but this one was being stubborn and sticking around much longer than it should have. "Cause you'll say you love me, and I'll end
up lying and say I love you too."TAG: DECKLYN WORDS: 724 CLOTHES: here MUSIC: Though we needed some nice background music xD NOTES: NO WORRIES! Hhaha it's not a big deal c: Btw way she has appendicitis, xD just a little stomach inflammation, something I'm sure Decklyn knows how to treat

Yes he didn't have to put on the uniform or get into the ambulance at any point in time but the paramedic part of him was always turned on and ready to go. He just had the knack of looking out for people. Always had and likely always would which made him pretty much perfect for his chosen profession. Not that his dad had agreed with that assessment but that was another set of issues completely. No matter what any one said though Decklyn loved what he did and couldn't imagine his life doing anything different. It was almost like getting to play a superhero every day of your life. Swooping in and saving lives. Most of the time at least. There were always those cases where there was simply nothing you could do no matter how fast you got there or how hard you worked on someone. He hated those days more than anything. He'd learned quickly though that you couldn't dwell on them, not unless you wanted to burn out in two or three years.
Instead he chose to focus on remembering the ones that had been saved, the happy endings. Those were what made it worth getting out of bed in the morning. And though he hadn't got out of bed with that thought this particular day if there was something he could do to help this young woman with whatever seemed to be bothering her then he'd do it. His presence seemed to startle her at first and she looked up at him quickly before replying with a forced smile that she was fine it was just a cramp. Likely enough if she hadn't stretched enough before hand or was dehydrated a little. She would have been relieved to know that the red coloring in her cheeks he paid little attention to, mostly because that wasn't uncommon for someone running.
Despite her reassurance she was fine and it was nothing serious Decklyn's gut was telling him not to leave just yet. She was doing her best to hide it but he was very familiar with what someone looked like when they were in a lot of pain and she was showing all the signs. Didn't meant it wasn't still just a muscle cramp but those didn't normally last all that long or you could get them to work themselves out in a moment or too. Giving a quick glance over his shoulder towards the playground a few yards away to check on Jacob who was still happily playing, he looked back at the girl, still not convinced she was as good as she said she was and unlike some people wasn't ok with just leaving until he knew for sure. She was giving him a keen look behind the pain and he briefly wondered if he was making her nervous. He supposed it might be weird to some people for a complete stranger to come over and ask if they were ok. Decklyn preferred to think that there were some genuinely good people still out there though, paramedic or not, who would simply do the same without any sort of alterior motives.
At that point she tried to stand up but stopped short with a small sound of pain and Decklyn automatically reached out to grasp the elbow of the arm she was holding onto him with for support. Noticing how she was clutching her side he gave her another more concerned look. "Look, I don't want to try and tell you what to do here but I'm a paramedic and whatever is going on here seems to be a bit more than a muscle cramp," His voice was still calm like before, light almost, as it usually was when he was talking to someone he was helping. Being super serious and stoic only made people more nervous in his opinion and that was never a good thing in any situation. Glancing to the right he turned his gaze back to her a second later, "You think if I help you out you can make it over to that bench?" If she couldn't he wasn't against simply getting her off of the jogging path to sit in the grass either. The bench would simply attract less attention which he guessed she would prefer.
