Her days on campus were treasures. She genuinely loved her job and her students. Even the cantankerous assholes genuinely had some redeemable qualities after she got through with them. And a little more mathematical knowledge, for the trouble. Eryn had an advantage over most professors though, what with her nose for trouble, and that ability to read peoples’ auras. There had been, in her long history, a few rare cases where she couldn’t find that little nugget of potential, but they had been more lost than she had the ability to fix. She was the bomb at mazes now, but even she couldn’t solve some puzzles, or riddle out some riddles. Didn’t stop her from coming to work every day to continue her attempts. Especially since she’d recently received tenure from the university that was long overdue. But they realized her value, and gave her what she deserved. So there she sat in the campus common area, blazer resting on the arm of the chair, with her briefcase on the floor, and the soft and happy voices of the students soothing her while she wrote out her lesson plans for next week, as she already had this week’s completed.
Eryn was prompt, by nature. She’d rather be fifteen minutes early than even two minutes late. It was just a thing, for her. Usually, by the end of semester’s, her kids had an appreciation for schedules too. She just… she had a way of making kids get it. Not something most people in the school could say, not even the counselors. Speaking of, she’d recently been approached by an amateur counselor to join the ranks. The professor had to think about it, honestly. It wasn’t really something she did, not officially, anyways. And she had no training of that kind whatsoever. Still, the little woman was convinced she’d be good at it, claiming that a natural aptitude and empathy served some people much better than all the schooling in the world. Her pen cap made its way between her teeth in a lightly contemplative gesture as her brain rolled over things that had nothing to do with her lessons. She decided to roll with it, letting her thoughts meander where they would, until they hit that recent thing with Jayne, where she firmly put on the brakes. Nope. No. Professor Swiftpaw was not going to go there. Especially not now. Her brow had furrowed and the pen cap was being mushed into submission when she heard a soft throat-clearing, pulling her from the depths of her head to look up into a pair of pretty violet eyes. That looked a touch confused.
’Hi? What’s up?’ Her smile was warm and friendly, hoping to inspire the young woman into words.
