let our silence brave tonight don't we all learn right from wrong
Lenore's brow furrowed when Devin mentioned that he wouldn't be able to take the memento with him when he moved on. She did know that, and she did expect him maybe burn it or give it back to her when he was done, or even leave it at wherever he was staying. But the last thing that she expected was for him to not have a permanent home at all. She had thought that Devin would have set up some place for himself, ghost or no ghost, because everyone had a home most of the time. Whether or not it be a cardboard box, it was still a home. For the ghost however, it really seemed that he had nowhere to go at all. She knew that he wasn't lying, the tone of his voice said it all, and he had no reason to lie to her. It strengthened her determination to help him and make him move on once and for all, since the boy pretty much had nothing left. Yet, Lenore knew that she would offer her home to him without hesitation if he wanted to stay. It wasn't to care for him or anything, and she doubted that he would be using any toilets anytime soon, but she wanted to give Devin a place to call home again. If he wanted to that is.
"You don't find out what's keeping you rooted to the earth overnight, Devin." laughed the redhead. "It's all trial and error." She didn't need to mention that ghosts could spend up to centuries trying to figure out what they needed to do to move on, until they eventually gave up and requested the assistance of a hunter to salt and burn their bones. Lenore hoped that Devin wouldn't end up as a wandering ghost forever. If the need came down to that, she would find his bones and salt and burn them herself.
She offered him a small smile when he thanked her, having saw no need to hide whatsoever truth for him. He deserved to know the alternatives after all, rather than prolong whatsoever suffering he would face if he couldn't find the main thing that was keeping him here. She hoped that this dealing with Toby dude would clear things up once and for all, and while Devin would move on to wherever he did move on to, she would be able to go home with a sense of peace and accomplishment. It would be quite the thing to write, she noted, how she helped a ghost move on, particularly one as nice as Devin. She turned red when he corrected her about ghosts flying, and cleared her throat. The blush was enough to rival her red hair. "Oh shut up and fly." she replied playfully, making a shooing gesture to him when he finished explaining. "I'll see you in a bit."
When the door opened, Lenore was met with the grumpy gaze of the housekeeper, a look that she knew far too well, The woman reminded her of her math teacher in school, constantly cranky and grumpy. She wondered how she was about to proceed, and how Devin was faring with Toby upstairs. "Mrrrrp, hi," she said, trailing off and stalling, wondering what else she would be able to say. "I'm looking for Toby...is he home?" The question had barely left her mouth when she heard a scream from the house, and the sounds of a door slamming. The next thing she knew, she was being pushed aside by a terrified, half-dressed, half-naked girl, who ran down the street and disappeared and sight. Exchanging startled looks with the housekeeper, the two of them ran into the house and up the stairs, heading for Toby's room.
The sight that met her was bizarre. The room was in a huge mess, and there was a boy slumped against the bed, which Lenore presumed to be Toby. The sheets were wet underneath him, implying that he had no doubt wet himself. "The fuck, Devin." she muttered, unable to help but feel impressed. Toby looked as though he was about to shit his pants. Had Devin already gone yet? She left the room and went out of the house, looking for him, wondering if he had moved on after making Toby repent. He sure as hell had managed to from the looks of it. She looked a while for a bit longer before she spotted him sitting behind an oak tree. Jogging over, she plonked herself down next to him and looked at him concernedly. If he had been solid, she would have a placed a hand on his shoulder, in a comforting gesture.
"You alright?" Lenore asked softly. "Great job up there, you totally freaked him out."

fire away, fire away.
Devin nibbled on his full lower lip uncertainly, brows creased at her words because he knew that she was right. He didn't know what was keeping him tied to the earth, and he was aware that this might will probably not happen over night, but that made his chest ache because he was alone. No, he didn't have a place to stay as a ghost, but he also hadn't really belonged anywhere when he was alive too, and that is something he didn't really liked to think about. "I know ... But that doesn't stop me from hoping, hm?" He smiled at her, soft and pleasant if a little sad because he knew that this wouldn't be it, but at least he'd get some revenge in scaring Toby. Devin was not a killer, he didn't want the guy dead, he just wanted him to feel sorry what he did, some kind of remorse would be good enough for Devin even if it wasn't what was keeping him tied down.
He chuckled a little when he made her blush, kind of feeling bad for correcting her, but really that wasn't important right now. When he was told to fly, he just shook his head and realised, that for knowing Lenore for a mere couple of hours he really liked her. He wondered if they could ever had been friends at all when he had been alive. He doubted it. He would never have had the courage to speak to her, and Devin himself just wasn't the kind of guy that people came to speak to. The only person had been Tilly, and that ended in a humiliating disaster that played a major part in his sinking depression. He shuddered to think of it, putting down a note in his mind to maybe visit her too. He wouldn't scare her, just ask her why. Why did she find the need to humiliate and degrade him so much. Devin was aware that Lenore knew a lot about his death and all, but his inner musings she'd never know about. He didn't need her to feel sorry for him, or have pity.
The whole thing with Toby, it left him feeling much more empty than when he had started. Yes, he was angry, but what did it accomplish? Nothing much, just maybe he would be too afraid to bully other kids now that he knew Devin's ghost was after his ass. But for the ghost it didn't feel like what he did was worth anything. That clearly wasn't what he needed to do, and his young form was feeling weaker, and he knew he'd need to rest soon, especially after the commotion he had just put up. He supposed he had felt some kind of satisfaction when he noticed that Toby had, indeed, wet his pants from sheer fear of Devin, but did turning the tables make Devin any better than him? That was one of the main concerns for the boy, that by doing this he was no better than Toby had been and it made him feel sick. As he sat behind the oak tree, he didn't care who saw his flickering form, he'd blame it on the sun and their eyes failing.
The next moment he was a little startled to feel Lenore sit beside him, and he turned his head to face her, having thought that she would have left already. But she was here, and that was probably the kindest gesture anyone had given him. "I wouldn't call it a great job." He eyes a dull green as he met hers, if he could have cried he would have, but now he just felt terrible sorrow. "I was just thinking ... well ... was that the right thing to do?" He murmured, and looked down to the ground, letting out a soft sigh of a breath that he didn't need but it was more of a habit thing. "Like ... I had the upper hand. He was scared of me and I can't help but feel like that doesn't make me any better than him." He told Lenore honestly, since that would not have been something he would have said out loud when he was alive, but now he had absolutely nothing to lose. "Thank you for helping me. I don't want to ... bother you any more." He bit his lip and didn't meet her eyes, knowing that she had done what she promised him she'd do so now she didn't have a reason to stick around. Devin didn't know why, but the though actually hurt.

let our silence brave tonight don't we all learn right from wrong
It was a shame. They came all this way, from him scaring her non-existent balls off to scaring Toby's real ones, and it had not worked. Lenore would have known if it had, because she would not be talking to Devin right now under this tree, but rather, saying their goodbyes. Ghosts had a brief window of time in which they could remain in this world when they had accomplished whatsoever thing that they were meant to do that was keeping them here before they moved on to the afterlife, where a better life was waiting for them. Seeing the sorrow and pain in Devin's eyes had made Lenore determined to see him off, and she had blatantly hoped that after he was done with Toby, he would be able to leave. The kid had been scared out of his pants, and in time, maybe, just maybe, he would fully repent from all the pain he had caused. But the problem right now was Devin, who was still here. If Toby had not been the source of him still being rooted here, then what was? Mystery after mystery.
When she looked at him, he seemed more troubled than ever. To Lenore, he had done splendidly. The kid had definitely got what he deserved, for it had been his turn to be terrorized. If she had been in his shoes, she would have been satisfied, but all it had done was to make Devin feel worse. She sighed, running a hand through her red locks. The deed was done though, nothing was able to change that now. The mystery was still on. Perhaps they could target his other bullies left, though Toby had been the head honcho. Maybe they could go after this Tilly girl next, since she was in Devin's past and all. Tilly didn't exactly have a clean record with him as well.
"It's a great job nonetheless," Lenore grunted, shrugging. "You don't scare shrimps like that every day, especially if they deserve it." She looked at the ghost next to her when he continued, and shrugged again. "Nothing is either right or wrong, you made your decision, you did it, and that's that." It had been a good scare though, and although she hadn't been there to witness it, the mess in the room and the sight of Toby having wet himself said it all. Oh and not to mention the screaming. She was impressed, but she wasn't going to tell Devin that. He looked as though he had enough on his plate already for the time being. "Think of it this way, you just showed him how you felt in being bullied and terrorized." she said honestly. "It doesn't make you better than anyone, you were just giving him a taste of what you had. Don't beat yourself up too much about it."
The redhead then let out a loud squawk and spluttered at his next words. "What! No!" Her brown eyes glared at him, and if he had been solid, she would have shook him, "Listen up. You were not bothering me. I volunteered for this, and you will move on if its the last thing I do. I've come too far to start chickening out, so you're gonna be stuck with me breathing down your neck whether you like it or not until you get outta here. Capiche?" Shooting him an obstinate look, the human rose to her feet, brushing off grass from herself. "It's getting late," Lenore commented as though she hadn't just scolded him, looking into the evening sky. How quickly time had flown. "You're coming back with me, whether you like it or not." She grinned at him. "What do you think of chicken for dinner?"

fire away, fire away.
Funnily enough, Lenore's words were making Devin feel a little bit better. The reassurance that he was just doing what was right for him. Devin nodded at her words, stretching his flickering legs in front of him as he leaned back against the tree, though he couldn't actually lean against it. He looked in front of him for a few long moments and then he turned to look at Lenore, thinking that maybe, maybe if he hadn't died and they had met they might have been friends. Maybe she would have been the one person who could have made him feel like he wasn't so alone, like she was doing now. A small smile flickered across his lips and he took in a long, unnecessary breath. "You're right. Of course you are. I'm sorry ... I just think in a very irrational way sometimes." He apologised, thinking that it was funny that his mind and thoughts were the same, personality and all, even when he was dead. He wasn't real, not really. He was just floating, he was the air particles, nothing solid. He could disappear at any moment, and he hoped that that would happen sooner rather than later.
Devin was actually startled at the ferocity of her protest at him bothering her, and he could tell that it was genuine. That confused him because this was now what he was used to. People were mean, and if they weren't they were mean later. Tilly was the perfect example of this, but Lenore ... she seemed different and that confused Devin a lot. He laughed a little at her words, so blunt, right to the point. Many people were afraid to speak like that, hell, Devin himself didn't say things right out but that seemed to be a very Lenore thing. "Technically, I wouldn't feel any breathing." He joked a little, because of his ghost form he didn't even feel the wind in his hair most of the time. When solid, he could feel things, like grass and objects and stuff, but things such as wind and breath, he really couldn't feel it at all. "Well, thank you. Really, Lenore." He spoke, his words filled with meaning, and he hoped that she could see that this did mean a lot to him.
"You know ... in the process of me discovering what I need to do .. if you wanna do something or whatever, anything I can do for you with my ghostly powers and stuff, let me know, alright?" He might as well use his abilities to help this girl here if she needed it, because he knew he wouldn't really use them to their full capability. Of course, he wouldn't hurt people for her or whatever, but whatever she asked he would be willing to do it because she had just been so amazing to him. Devin stood with her as she stood, and for a moment he watched the light of the setting sun flicker across her face with a small smile on his own. It was a pleasant sight, he realised he liked it. Shaking his head he was a little taken aback at her proposal. He bit his lips, involuntarily casting his eyes to the floor because he wasn't used to being accepted, and he felt like it with her. "Um, I haven't eaten human food since I died." He laughs softly, thinking how ridiculous this conversation must sound to anyone listening in. "I haven't really eaten anything as a ghost." He muses a little and then turns in the direction from which they came. "I'll walk you home ... but I'm only a new ghost ... I won't be solid for much longer ..." He looks at her as he says this, and he knows for a fact that he will be back the moment he's conscious again. "I'll come back after some ... however ghosts rest I suppose. It's usually just oblivion to me." He starts walking, making himself as solid as he can so he wouldn't look weird walking next to a human.
