overall, kendra is basically a sweetheart. she loves humans and supernaturals alike and wishes that everyone can just get along. however, she knows that this can't be the case for many, many years, so she decided to align her with the light side in order to protect clueless humans from the wrath of the dark siders. she tries to be realistic about everything even though she knows that some of her ideas will never work out. kendra makes friends easily due to her easy-going nature, so she tends to befriend anyone she meets despite their species since she tends to keep her status as a shapeshifter a secret from those who either don't know about supernaturals or wish to kill them. the girl can become very protective of her friends and her sister for that matter. one of her life goals is to locate her sister again somehow, because she misses her more than anything.

because of her history with her human family, she believes all humans to be the same way -- kind, gentle and caring about supernaturals. if something happened to her to prove this theory of hers wrong, then a change of sides might be in order...

kendra grew up with a rather happy childhood alongside her older sister of two years, chloe, as the child of annette and jared brooks. the two sisters were very close considering they were only two years apart, and would often enjoy most of their time together when they were kids. kendra did not know anything about the supernatural world until chloe had her first transformation once she hit puberty. mesmerized by the fact that her sister was able to turn into a jaguar, kendra couldn't wait until she got to the same age.

which she did, obviously, two years later, when she transformed for the first time into a caracal. like her sister before her, kendra was told to hide her shapeshifting abilities. neither of the siblings were pleased with this even though they listened to their mother anyway. however, some time later, their father ended up snapping for a reason kendra never understood, and ended up killing their mother.

kendra was devastated at this, but was soon surprised to find out that their father had done something terrible -- the bastard had sold her and chloe to random people as pets. still mentally broken and confused, kendra was shipped off to a family that lived in western pennsylvania. frightened for what was going to happen with her life, she was easily surprised when she found out that the family she was given to was filled with kind people.

kendra assumed her caracal form for the next two and a half years. the family she lived with never suspected that she was an actual person, so she figured they thought that they had just paid for a really intelligent cat. the three children who were around the ages of ten, nine, and seven were all pleased with kendra and played with her every day.

the family was particularly well-off as far as money went, and as a result, they had a family maid. but when the maid was the only one who suspected that kendra was not actually just a cat, she panicked and spread the word that the family was housing a supernatural. it didn't take long for a hunter to learn the news and quickly planned to raid the family's house. the husband and wife learned of this and decided to release kendra "into the wild" for her own good. believing the maid to be crazy and thinking that the hunter was just a guy coming to kill their technically "feral" cat, the family thought it best to let kendra go so she wouldn't be attacked or taken into some shelter somewhere to be put down.

and so kendra fled the state and assumed her human form again, traveling as north as possible until she stumbled upon manuka, maine. she quickly found a job there at the cookie jar. even though the family she belonged to set her free, kendra believes that they let her go because "humans are nice people." she assumes from this basis that all humans are the same way, and that if the family she lived with knew that she was a supernatural, they would have still treated her the same way. with this misconception, she lives trying to get everyone to live peacefully despite knowing that that dream won't be coming true any time soon.
